In recent months, SCW fans, superstars and employees alike have all witnessed a different side of Bobbie Dahl. Well, sort of witnessed. While she has had matches here and there, her performance has been suffering for quite a while despite her constant reassurances that she would turn things around. She had started the beginning of 2024 as the Bombshell Roulette Champion, but after losing the title to the same woman she defeated to win it, her success in the ring quickly diminished. This, in part, was due to stressful situations within her family life.
Despite all of that, Bobbie had managed to win her Triple Crown Qualifier match for a shot at the Bombshell Roulette Championship at Inception VII. Ever since losing the Bombshell Roulette Championship, Bobbie was dreaming about eventually getting another shot…when the time was right. When she was one hundred percent focused and sure that she could handle the commitments that came with being a champion in SCW. And now that she had the opportunity coming up ahead of her, she had to make sure that her personal life didn’t stand in her way.
Against her better judgement, she was about to do something she had been mulling over following the disaster that was her family’s Thanksgiving dinner. Her mother in-law had once again found a way to ruin the evening, but more so what she had said about Bobbie had almost destroyed Bobbie herself. Artie had practically disowned his mother after that, but the whole situation still did not sit well with Bobbie. She just couldn’t understand where everything went wrong, and yet there was a small part of her that still had hope that things could be worked out.
Which is what she was about to attempt to do.
Artie is currently out of town for a couple of days, having flown to Illinois to help his father with something. Bobbie knew that she couldn’t do what she was about to do with Artie home, because he would have no doubt tried to stop her. She holds her phone in her hand and stares down at the screen. Her right leg bounces up and down from her building anxiety, and Loki is right beside her, rubbing his head against her left leg trying to calm her down. She looks down at him and shakes her head.
“Don’t judge me.” She says to him, and he just wags his tail in response. She takes in a deep breath, closes her eyes and decides to get it over with. When she opens her eyes again, she scrolls through her contacts before landing on ‘MAMA MILLER.’ Without further hesitation, she clicks the button to make the call, immediately putting it on speaker.
As much as she was ready to get this over with, another part of her hoped that her mother in law didn’t answer. As her right leg continues to bounce anxiously, Loki takes his paw and places it on her knee. After three rings, Artie’s mother answers. “Well hello Bobbie. Color me surprised to hear from you.”
Bobbie slightly cringes in response to hearing her mother in-law’s voice again. She pets Loki head as her leg finally stops bouncing uncontrollably. “Hello Amelia.” She responds short and quick, choosing her next words carefully. “I’m a bit surprised myself and I almost didn’t call, if I’m honest.”
Amelia can be heard letting out a quick laugh on the other end. “Then why did you, if I may ask? Artie made it pretty clear at Thanksgiving that I’m not to contact either of the two of you.”
Loki whines and lets out a slight growl upon hearing Amelia’s voice, and sensing how Bobbie was reacting to it herself. Bobbie lifted her index finger to her mouth and quietly shushed him and he just let out a huff, before laying his head down on Bobbie’s knee. “Artie doesn’t know I am calling you. And despite what Artie said, I couldn’t let things stay the way they are, at least not without having a talk with you first.”
“I think enough has been said, Bobbie.” Amelia replies, sounding as thought she is going to end the call before it has a chance to go on any longer.
“By you, maybe.” Bobbie shoots back, hoping that didn’t cause Amelia to hang up. “But there are some things I need to tell you, and I’m hoping you’ll understand the situation that Artie and I are in.”
A long silence falls between the two and Bobbie stares at her phone screen. She knows Amelia didn’t hang up, but the silence was almost deafening. “Well go on, then. I haven’t got all day.” Amelia finally says, breaking the silence.
“Sorry, I wasn’t sure if you were going to say something else before I say what I need to say.” Bobbie replies. She takes another deep breath and gathers her thoughts. “The last words you said to everyone at Thanksgiving were that I am the reason that Artie hasn’t given you a grandchild yet.”
Bobbie pauses. Saying the words brings up the emotions all over again. She holds back tears so it is easier for her to say what she needs to say. “Woman to woman, Amelia, I’m surprised that you could say something like that with so little understanding of just why Artie and I don’t have kids yet.”
Amelia can again be heard laughing. “Because you are too focused on your dwindling wrestling career.”
Bobbie sighs and shakes her head. “You couldn’t be farther from the truth, and the fact that you think I would be that selfish really hurts me.” Bobbie stands up from the sofa and starts slowly pacing back and forth in her living room as Loki keeps a close eye on her.
“Bobbie, if you don’t want children, you should just let Artie go. He deserves to be a father.”
Bobbie stops dead where she is standing and blinks several times. She scratches her head and thinks over her response for a few moments. “Where on earth did you get the idea that I don’t want kids?”
“You said it yourself!” Amelia raises her voice in frustration.
“Maybe when I was in my early twenties or something, but that was a loooong time ago.” Bobbie says with a laugh. “And if you heard me say it around Artie, I only said it because I didn’t want kids with anyone but Artie and we weren’t together at the time.” She sits back down on the sofa, feeling more hopeful than before that this situation could be worked out.
Amelia says silent for a few moments, now choosing her words carefully. “Then please enlighten me, Bobbie.”
“Amelia…” Bobbie pauses before she continues. How her mother in-law could be so blind to the real reason was beyond her, but she had to just come out and say it. “I have a condition that makes it difficult, if not impossible, to have kids. We want to have a baby, but it’s not without its challenges in trying to make it a reality.”
Amelia doesn’t say a word, and neither does Bobbie. They both are trying to think of what to say next, but Bobbie chooses to wait for Amelia’s response rather than add anything further. Maybe what she just told her will change Amelia’s attitude. At least…she was hoping it would. But she is about to get her answer.
“What exactly are the two of you doing to try and have a baby?” Amelia finally asks after what seems like an eternity. It wasn’t exactly the response Bobbie was hoping for. “The two of you aren’t getting any younger, you know.”
Bobbie narrows her eyes. “We are well aware of that. Nothing about this has been easy trying to figure out. IVF is really the best option I have–”
“And does the doctor think that will actually work? How severe is this condition, Bobbie? What does Artie want you to do?” Amelia starts shooting out questions quicker than Bobbie can even answer them. Not that she really wants to answer any of them at all, nor does she have to.
“Hold on now, Amelia.” Bobbie says, once again standing up. “That’s information I don’t really feel I need to share with you. I was just hoping that by telling you the truth, you’d be a little more compassionate. That you’d be the woman I looked up to growing up.”
Amelia laughs again. “Look, Bobbie.” She says, still sounding like the same cold-hearted woman she had been as of late. “I understand that this condition is hindering your ability to become pregnant, but how do you think this is affecting my son? He deserves to be a father.”
“Yes, I know he does. And I’m trying–”
“If you really love him as much as you say you do, you’d let him go, Bobbie.” Amelia’s words leave Bobbie stunned. She stands there, jaw dropped and speechless as the tears well in her eyes. “If you can’t give him what he needs or deserves, then what is the point? He should have stayed with that Ronnie woman.”
Bobbie glares and narrows her eyes again at the mention of Artie’s ex-girlfriend, Ronnie. “Excuse me?”
“You heard me.” Amelia snaps back. “He should have stayed with Ronnie. I’ve seen her a couple of times since they broke up. Sad to say she is married now, but she has a handsome little boy. A little boy that could have been my grandson.”
Bobbie feels like she is going to be sick. She was now regretting ever making this phone call as it had just now blown up in her face. “I was stupid to think that telling you anything could turn you back into the woman I thought you were. You’re nothing but a cold-hearted old hag, and let me tell you I am going to do whatever I need to do to give Artie a child. And you? You’ll have absolutely NO part of our child’s life.”
“That is what you think, dear.” Amelia says with a surety sound in her voice. “Artie may not want anything to do with me now, but IF the two of you have a child? He won’t keep me from my own grandchild.”
“He might not,” Bobbie starts and if Amelia were standing in front of her right now, she’d probably be taken down a few feet. “But I sure as hell will. I hope you enjoy the consequences of your actions, Amelia. Because you’ve cost yourself everything.”
Bobbie then quickly ends the call so as not to give Amelia the chance to say anything further. And before Amelia can call her back, Bobbie deletes and blocks her number from her phone, determined to keep all of her negativity out of her life. But the reality of what was just said and the fall out from it hits Bobbie like a shot to the gut and she drops down on the couch and starts to sob. Loki is once again by her side trying to comfort her, and Bobbie is only thankful that Artie was not here to see this.
Following her phone call with her mother in-law, Bobbie found herself questioning everything. Artie did deserve to be a father, but Bobbie couldn’t bear the thought of ‘letting him go’ like Amelia had suggested. But what if they tried everything and nothing worked? Could she really expect Artie to stay with her and live with not being a father? She had cried many tears over the last twenty-four hours, and after a vague tweet on Twixter, as Bobbie liked to call it, today she was being treated to a day of shopping with none other than Carter Kasey-McKinney.
Far be it from Bobbie to turn down a much needed session of retail therapy. And as Artie was returning home tonight, she had the time to kill anyway. Even though shopping involved walking around for an extended period of time, Bobbie thought that today would be one of those relaxing shopping trips. The kind where it was more window browsing than anything and they could just enjoy walking around and talking for hours on end. Bobbie quickly found out that a shopping trip with Carter was an adventure in itself and there was hardly anything relaxing about it.
It’s currently just after noon as Bobbie and Carter are walking around the mall. They had been there for about an hour, but by the looks of all the bags Bobbie was carrying, one would think they had been there for a lot longer.
“Carter, don’t you ever just want to do window shopping?” Bobbie says as she adjusts some of the bags she is carrying. Her arms were starting to feel like jello, and Carter just looks at her and laughs. He’s also carrying a few bags himself.
“Where is the fun in that?” He asks with a laugh. “You can’t consider it shopping if you’re just looking at stuff through windows.”
Bobbie laughs, but she needs to give her arms a break. She walks over to a bench and sits down, dropping all the bags at her feet and looking up at Carter. “How do you get away with walking through the door with a bunch of stuff you don’t need?! Artie is going to have to take some tips from Miles.”
“Speaking of Artie…” Carter says, stepping closer to Bobbie. “Where is that hubby of yours anyway?”
Bobbie stretches out her arms, trying to shake some feeling back into them. “Oh he’ll be home tonight. He flew out to Illinois for a few days to help his Dad move.”
Carter raises an eyebrow curiously. “He finally smarten up and leave that witch of a wife?”
Bobbie nods. “Surprisingly, yes. After the mess that was Thanksgiving, he realized that she isn’t the woman he thought she was. And she’s not the woman he married.” She shrugs, but her face shows the heartbreak she feels. “Luckily they don’t know what she said to me yesterday…”
“Yesterday?” Carter asks curiously. “You talked to her yesterday?!”
Bobbie closes her eyes, instantly regretting what she just said. “Uhh…yeah. Long story.”
Carter quickly takes a seat next to her and turns his body to give her his full attention. “Well I’ve got all day, so you better get to talking.”
Bobbie leans back on the bench, resting her back against the backrest. She lets out a sigh as she prepares to tell Carter all about her conversation with Amelia yesterday. “Well, I needed to try and fix this whole situation and get my family back to where it used to be. I thought that telling her why Artie and I don’t have kids right now she might actually show some compassion and empathy.”
“I take it she didn’t?” Carter asked quickly.
Bobbie shakes her head. “Nope. If anything, she showed more of her true colors than she did before. She actually said that not only does she think Artie would have been better off with that psycho chick Ronnie, but that if I loved Artie like I say I do, I’d actually let him go.”
Carter’s jaw drops and he lets out a slight gasp. But his shock soon turns to anger and he places a hand on Bobbie’s back. “You and Artie are better off forgetting about that woman and leaving her in the rearview mirror. I can’t see any way of her making amends after saying something like that.”
Bobbie lowers her head. She feels her eyes start to well up with tears, but she holds herself back in front of Carter. “I just made things worse, Carter. I was trying to clear my head of all the stress from this past year, because I’m letting it affect my performance in SCW, but I only made it worse. I have to face Bella on Sunday and then I’ll be going to Inception VII to fight for the Bombshell Roulette Championship, but I’m just going to fail again. Maybe I need to just focus on trying to have a baby instead of wrestling, because clearly I can’t have both.”
Bobbie takes in a few deep breaths, trying to calm herself before she started sobbing all over again right in the middle of the mall. “That’s nonsense, Bobbie and you know it. Do you know how many people have kids and still manage to have a wrestling career?”
Bobbie nods. “Of course I know that. But how many of them had to go through IVF in order to get pregnant? And not only that, but look how quickly most are able to bounce back and get back in the ring.” She shakes her head now and sighs. “I don’t have that kind of time. My body doesn’t have that kind of time.”
Carter lets out a sigh of his own. “Bobbie, you don’t have to put your body through all of that just to have a child. And if Artie is pressuring you to–”
Bobbie quickly shakes her head, shooting that thought down immediately. “No, of course not. Artie is not pressuring me to do anything. I just want to give him a biological child of his own. How can I expect to go through that whole process and try and get the Bombshell Roulette Championship back, let alone defend it week after week?”
“Look,” Carter begins, trying his best to be a reassuring friend to Bobbie. “The child doesn’t have to be yours biologically in order to be a parent, Bobbie. I understand wanting to pass on the family name and such, but there are so many other options than to put yourself through physical challenges to become a parent. What about adoption? So many kids need loving homes because their biological parents shouldn’t have had them in the first place.”
Bobbie grins as she looks at Carter. “You’re starting to sound like Fenris. Although less brash…”
Cartier’s jaw drops and he looks shocked. “I’m going to pretend you didn’t just say that.”
The two share a laugh before turning serious once again. “I know there are options, Carter. I just don’t know what is best for me and Artie. I wish things were much more clear.”
“Life isn’t that easy, Bobbie.” Carter replies, and he stands up, looking down at her. “Now, enough of the heavy. We still have a lot of stores to hit.”
“You’re kidding me, right?!” Bobbie says, looking at all the bags they have at their feet. “I’m gonna need to re-fuel in order to carry more bags. Time for lunch!”
Bobbie then stands up and Carter helps her with the various bags of their purchases. They head off towards the food court to grab a quick bite to eat before continuing their shopping adventure.
The camera opens up, focused directly on the face of Bobbie Dahl. What is usually a carefree, smiling expression is much more serious as she stares into the camera of her laptop, ready to address the SCW fans and her opponents for Inception VII. She leans back slightly after ensuring the camera is recording and then sits up straight.
“I’m finding myself in a bit of an unfamiliar situation right now, and I have to apologize before I get down to business and the task at hand. I know it’s no secret that I’ve been a bit…distant…as of late. If you want to call it distant. I haven’t been putting in the same effort as I used to, or that I should considering the numerous chances I have been given over the last several months, and for that I need to apologize. Not only to my last opponents, but to Mark Ward and Christian Underwood. I don’t want to be looked at as someone who is lazy and doesn’t care, because that is far from the truth. I’ve just been struggling.”
She pauses and thinks over everything in her mind right now. She folds her arms before continuing.
“But who doesn’t struggle, right? I’m not going to try and defend my lack of effort and less than stellar performance lately, because there really is no excuse, but I’m finding it hard to get out of this stressful place I have been in lately. I’m struggling to find that balance, but it’s not for a lack of trying because trust me when I say I’ve been trying so damn hard to get back to where I was. It just takes a certain amount of motivation.”
She pauses again, bringing her index finger up to her chin and letting herself fall into a deep thought.
“Motivation. The thing or things that drive us to be the very best we can be and to just do something with ourselves. When you find the negativity just piling up more and more, the motivation to do anything about it can just start to…dwindle. And why? Because you start to think, is it ever going to get better? Is it all worth it? Am I making sense?”
Bobbie shrugs and then leans forward, placing her elbows on the desk but keeping her eyes solely locked on the camera.
“I’m sure in some way I am, but I bet you’re wondering how this all pertains to me and my current situation. Well, you see it has everything to do with my current situation because I’ve been in such a downward spiral that I’m finding it hard to build that motivation to get back to where I was. Am I too far down the ladder to get back to my place in SCW where I was most successful? Or, better yet, climb higher and be better than I was before? Is it worth it to try?”
She closes her eyes and digs deep to find a positive answer. She keeps her eyes closed for a while and takes in a few deep breaths before finally opening her eyes.
“You bet your behind it’s worth it to try! This isn’t rock bottom for me. I haven’t tasted every bit of success I want to taste in SCW, and I don’t care what I have to do, I’m going to fight tooth and nail to be a successful and deserving champion. Now you all might not believe me right now, and that’s fine. But I’m going to work to built your trust and belief in me for as long as it takes. And it starts next week at Inception VII.”
Bobbie finally allows herself to smile, thinking of the challenge ahead of her.
“Now before I address our esteemed Bombshell Roulette Champion, I’m going to take a few moments to focus on the other woman looking to reclaim the status she once held in SCW, and someone I am very very familiar with. Alicia Lukas and I go way back, and our history isn’t exactly one that you would call a very good one. I’m sure Alicia will be looking to get me out of the picture pretty quick, and I don’t blame her.”
Bobbie shakes her head and leans back again, thinking back to her heated rivalry with Alicia Lukas.
“I was a very different person the last time Alicia and I faced off. I wasn’t the best version of myself, but I also was a decent version of myself. I was in a dark place and in all honesty, I tried to end Alicia’s career by targeting her shoulder. I’m not proud of it, and I’m glad that Alicia was able to come back from what I tried to do to her because of my jealousy. Yes, I said jealousy because back then, Alicia was one of the best in the business. I thought by taking her out, it would immediately propel me to being better than her, but I was wrong.”
She takes in another deep breath
“I don’t quite understand why Alicia is back, because she’s tasted all of the success she can in SCW. Multiple time World Bombshell Champion. Woman of the Year. Hall of Famer. She’s a bit…overqualified for this match, don’t you all think? Eh, I guess it doesn’t really matter because the point is that she is here and she’s fighting for the Bombshell Roulette Championship just like I am, and I’m going to do everything I can to stop her. Well…almost everything because I promise I won’t try and end her career again. I’ll do everything within the rules of whatever the Roulette wheel decides for us. I just hope she’s ready.”
Bobbie leans back and folds her arms again, smiling widely.
“And that leaves…Victoria Lyons. The champion herself. The Queen of the Lyons Den and the Lyons family, and if I’m honest? The woman I am more concerned about heading into this match than Alicia Lukas. Because Victoria has proven herself to be a hell of a Bombshell Roulette Champion over the last six months and I know I’ve got my work cut out for me if I want to be the one to end her reign. I let myself lose to her once before, and I’m not about to go down without a fight and let it happen again.”
Bobbie lets out a laugh and smiles, thinking about the Bombshell Roulette Champion.
“I’d ask if Victoria really deserves to be where she’s at, but that would be a silly question, because she’s proven she does. Regardless of how horribly she treats people, even her own family, she backs up every single word she says and she’s managed to keep a hold of that title since July. Pretty impressive, honestly. Something I was hoping to do myself, but was cut just a little short by Alexandra Calaway, but that’s not the point. The point is that Victoria has every reason to be confident going into this match, because she’s going up against someone who only recently returned to SCW and someone who has had more losses than wins recently. The odds are kind of in her favor.”
Bobbie laughs, trying not to allow herself to get into a Hunger Games joking situation. She behaves herself and gets back on topic.
“I need to win this match next week. But not only do I need to win it, I need to beat Victoria. I’ve already proven myself against Alicia Lukas. I’d talk about pinning one over the other, but we’ve all got the Roulette Wheel to think about so my desire to beat Victoria might even be pointless. I just hope the wheel gives me the opportunity to pin Victoria so I can have some bragging rights. Because knowing her? She’ll cry foul if she isn’t the one to lose the title herself. That’s the thing about Triple Threat matches, ya know? But that is exactly why I am determined to prove myself better than Victoria, because how else could I claim to deserve the title if I don’t beat the best?”
Bobbie shrugs innocently.
“No offense to Alicia Lukas, but she’s simply not the best anymore. Victoria is the champion, so Victoria is the one I’m really aiming to beat and then send her on her merry little way as I work to reclaim my status and be better than ever. I set a lot of goals for myself for this year and wouldn’t you know that one of the ones at the top of my list I get the chance to check off so early on in the year. I’m making the most of it, and I hope that Victoria and Alicia don’t count me out just yet. Because I’m going to prove them wrong and I’m going to go out there and show everyone that I’m not done yet. You haven’t seen the best of me yet!”
Bobbie leans in close to the camera, smiling as she prepares to end her message.
“Bobbie Dahl is making a comeback, and it all starts next week at Inception VII. See you soon, ladies!”
With one last smile from Bobbie and the click of a button, the camera cuts to black.
