Not Playing Games

He almost breaks into another chuckle again, but brings his hand up to his mouth and covers it, getting it under control before it even makes it out of his mouth. He takes a breath, but does not manage to pull himself off of that point.

”I mean any intelligent person would just avoid these little promo things altogether. I definitely won’t be watching what either of these two guys say about me. It makes no sense. What is the drawback of skipping it? It’s not like I host some kind of show where I have to review it. It’s not like I get paid to waste my time listening to insults being thrown at me. The only thing I am doing by tuning is, is giving these two guys an opportunity to get under my skin. I am choosing to listen to someone tear me apart. All for what? So that I can be caught up on the newest sick burns? So that I can grow to be popular on Twitter like some others in this company? It all seems like a waste of time, doesn’t it? It’s not what we are here to do. I don’t know either of you. This is my first match outside of a gym, so I know that neither of you know me. What are we going to do? Attack each other’s social media feed? Is that the status quo? Forgive me for not taking part. I have a few better things to do with my time.”

He sits back in his chair a little, and lets the fans think over the way he looks at things. He does not leave them hanging for too long though, throwing out a little bait.

”That’s not to say that I don’t have anythiing that I want to say about the two of them...”

A wide smile cross his face, and he shifts to get more comfortable in his seat. He points his index finger towards the monitor, shaking it slightly.

”Like this Tommy Crimson guy. How many times are we going to see some tattooed menace show up and spout off about being a madman? How many times do we need to sit through the same shtick over and over again until someone stands up and asks where all the normal people are in this business? We already have a guy that runs his mouth constantly in order to manipulate people into falling where he wants them too. In case you haven’t heard of him, look him up, he’s the only impressive champion in the whole company right now. But you know what? Even he is giving up on the whole mean, abrasive asshole shtick. Why? Because it is beyond boring, overly played out, and lazy. Follow up your shit personality with the fact that you’re a glorified wrecking ball without any actual talent, and you can see why I might be less than impressed. Go ahead and try to fly around the ring until you get lucky and land on someone. I am going to have fun booting you out of the air every time that you try. I am coming out of the Jet City Sports Lab, the home of people that are pretty much exclusively high flyers. I have been trained by people like you, but more successful than you appear to be. More importantly, I’m just not going to play your game. Call it being smarter than the average rookie. Call it being lazy. I don’t really care, as I’m sure you couldn’t care less about my opinion either.”

He waves the thought away, and shifts gears.

”This Marcus Collins though, he might be alright. I mean looking over the little bit of information that Sin City had on him, he at least has potential. He seems like a nice enough guy, and appears like he has some technical prowess. The guy looks bigger and stronger than me, but it also means he is slower. He knows what he is doing at least, which looks like a step above our third wheel at least. However, he appears to suffer from the same core problem. The guy likes his words. He likes to come off sounding better than others. That sort of thing means something to him. Yet, inside the ring, he is quick to lose focus? The guy goes a little crazy? Is that it? Maybe I should take back what I said about potential….”

He sighs, but does not seem to be too down about it. With a shrug of his shoulders the smile comes back to his face.

”This is a first step for me. This is not just some new company, or fresh start. This is me saying that I am ready to come out of training and try to put together some of the skills that I have been honing. I have to say that I like my chances. Two people from Jet City have competed in this company. In the last year, they have been pinned a combined one time, and it was one pinning the other.”

He holds his arms out to his sides.

”I have the legacy of a whole school riding on my shoulders. That is a lot of pressure. It’s a good thing for them that pressure does not really bother me. I am used to it. I enjoy the fact that it keeps me focused, which may end up being a problem for these other two. Maybe that gives me an advantage that can counteract the lack of experience that I have. Maybe these two will underestimate me to the point where this will look like a walk in the park. I don’t know what is going to happen. That is the fun part about all of this.”

He leans up into the camera, and whispers his last line like it is a secret.

”If I had to guess though, the two of you are going to feel really dumb for having wasted so much time being clever when you could have actually been preparing for this fight.”
