Tryst Nightclub - Backstage
Las Vegas, Nevada
11:35 PM Local Time
“I don't know what went wrong. I can't figure this out. We had this match. WE HAD IT!”
Fade in on a frustrated Mercedes Vargas in the backstage area of Tryst Nightclub. Just thirty minutes ago, the third Climax Control of 2014 was in the books. Just thirty minutes ago the final bell sounded. Just thirty minutes ago she had just competed in her third main event match. And just thirty minute ago, the victors would not be the ones holding the titles.
Mercedes turns her back to the camera and leans her head against the wall. She turns around and leans against the wall now, facing the cameraman, who is somehow able to film despite this melodrama.
Cameraman: So, after what happened tonight, how do you feel right about now?
Mercedes: Right now? I don't know. I'm just a mix of emotions. Angry. Upset. Disappointed most definitely. What happened out there should not have happened. That was NOT the Gothika that I know. That was not the Gothika I teamed up with when we defeated Misty and Vixen. That was not the Gothika who just recently became the champion. I had to have been teaming with her stunt double or a clone. Maybe she has a twin sister for all we know. Maybe there was something in the air tonight or in the drinking water or maybe it was just the high altitude. I mean, that's a common problem in the southwest, isn't it? Shortness of breath and nosebleeds or whatever. Look, I can't make any excuses for her, although I kind of did, but there is NO EXCUSE why we lost tonight.
Mercedes takes a deep breath, the loss still deadpans her. Running a hand through her hair, she shakes her head incredulously.
Mercedes: No excuse. But tonight is tonight and My Bloody Valentine is in two weeks. This was just a hiccup, just a step back. Sure, Necra and Traci each has a little momentum ahead of the pay-per-view, a little, maybe even a slither, but the pressure is not on us, it's on them. If I or Gothika lose our titles, guess what? We get a rematch. Necra and Traci has only one shot at getting the Bombshell and Bombshell Roulette Championships, respectively. They fail Sunday in two weeks, they get sent to the back of the line. They start from the bottom of the ladder. But on the off chance that they pull off a divine miracle?
A smile appears.
Mercedes: Well, then they'll have to prove that their win wasn't a fluke. This is why being a number contender is not easy. And in two weeks, Necra and Traci will find out just what they've really earned: a challenge to face us, yes, but also the right to lose to us.
Mercedes turns and starts to walks off, but stops to get one last word in.
Mercedes: Not a bad night's work, wouldn't you say?
Fade.

Mercedes's Apartment
Queens, New York
As our scene opens, we see Mercedes pacing in her living room, her cellphone in hand. She stops to look back at her laptop and now stares back at us, leaning closer so that we see her through the webcam.
“Oh, hi and hello. I didn't see you there. I was waiting for any late breaking updates from Matthew Kennedy News on my iPhone here, but, unfortunately, there isn't an app for that. So, I have to ask, did Matthew Kennedy vouch for you to get this title shot, Jessie Salco? Yeah, because, I don't see how you've earned it. But then again, Amy Marshall never earned a title shot against me either, and she was two times lucky.”
Mercedes grins and pulls back a chair.
“First, you mentioned the many times I've gotten chances at the Bombshell Roulette Championship, which is true. I had four chances at it. I've got it right the fourth time. But let's go with this. Let's look at this a little further, shall we? The first time, I lost to Necra in a Paddle on a Poll match. Degrading, I know, especially when your opponent smashes said paddle across your head. The second time, a triple threat Ultimate X match. Nessa Wall retained her title. She was probably training extra hard that day. The third time, and you were also in this match, Jessie, the X Rules Party match at Summer Xtreme II. Now, I was eliminated early, but you were one of the final three in the match, though you too found yourself in the pool not before long. The fourth time, a triple threat five-count match. (gives a puzzled look) Not only did I win the match, but I also pinned the champion."
True story. It's right there in the archives. Look it up.
“Now, if you want to hold that against me, Salco, that's fine. Just as long as I get to mention that you were part of NXT, who pretty much coddled you since you joined their little group. Then you went on to mention that I continued to lose the Bombshell Roulette Championship. Hmm, that's funny. I only remember to having lost this title ONCE before I got it back recently. Thirdly, you talked about your title reign as one-half of the Bombshell Tag Team Champions. Was it memorable? (shrugs) I don't know. I'm not sure. But you did mention that you held on to your title for two weeks. My first reign with the Bombshell Roulette Championship lasted five weeks. You do know what this mean don't you?”
Come on, you can join in too. Nod your head yes, nod your head yes.
“It means, Jessie Salco, that I held my title three weeks longer than you did.”
Cue Nelso Muntz laugh.
“So, where do I begin? Where do I begin when it comes to you and Traci Patterson? Where do I begin with our match looming in eight days. I guess we can start from last week, yeah. So, let's say you're driving along the country road. Feel the wind in your hair and listening to the radio on a cool summer day. Everything is all right with the world, when suddenly...”
Mercedes acts as if she ran over something.
“You jolt out of your seat, wondering 'what was that?" That was a speed bump. That is exactly what happened on the Climax Control in the main event. That is exactly what happened in the main event last week. And somehow, someway, Traci, you won your first ever main event. Necra was able to pin Gothika and gain a little bit of momentum heading into the SCW Bombshell Title match. Though we know, and I just found this out a little awhile ago, it's a little crowded now that Roxi and Amy is also in the match. When it rains, it pours, right?
“One hiccup by the champion, and it's all over, right? The one time Necra gets lucky and pins the champion and ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh! The sky is falling, the sky is falling!”
Mercedes chuckles.
“Don't be too sure of yourselves. Gothika didn't win that title off of Roxi for nothing. She wasn't able to beat her twice for nothing. She proved why she is the most dangerous Bombshell in all of Sin City Wrestling. I suppose management was tired of seeing Gothika having her way in singles matches week after week, so in all their infinite wisdom, SCW management decided on the next best thing, tried and true logic. If you can't beat them, put them in a multi-person match. Problem solved. And I can see how Necra, the obvious favorite, or so she claims, is ever confident, considering that her reign as Bombshell Roulette Champion ended very much the same way at Summer XXXtreme II”
She pauses, brushing a few strands of hair from her face. Almost despite herself, Mercedes takes on a comical tone.
“So as I was preparing my promo for Traci Patterson, I got quite the surprise when I was on my computer. Turns out she's not the only person I have to worry about at the pay-per-view. So I'm thinking why am I facing two opponents? Let's look back, it was initially stated that Traci Patterson was the de facto number one contender, though I'm not even sure why she gets a shot in he first place, but whatever. I was supposed to face Traci Patterson, but instead I'm thrown a fastball and now have to defend my title against her AND Jessie Salco. Anyone else thinks this is weird? Anyone else confused as to why SCW management threw in a second opponent unannounced? I know I am. I bet Traci is, too, aren't you, sweetheart?”
Mercedes laces her fingers together, dropping them below her chin while adding a small chuckle.
“Why does SCW management want to stack the deck against me? Why, and I'm sure Traci is sitting on pins and needles for this one, am I not getting the one-on-one match that I deserve with the true number one contender for this, (she holds up the Bombshell Roulette Championship) my shiny title? What gives, SCW? I'll tell you why. I'll tell you why that is."
Mercedes holds up an index finger in a wait-a-minute gesture.
“Traci, I'm going to let you in on something. The reason why you're not getting that one-on-one match you so rightly deserve, and I'm going to try my best to break this gently, is because SCW management doesn't trust you. They think that because you're a rookie you're going to embarrass yourself and the company and they couldn't deal with having another shall we say “high stakes” incident on their hands.
“Okay, Okay. Look at it this way. Would you have liked to share the spotlight with someone else? Let's say, hypothetically, you were able to walk out of My Bloody Valentine with the title. What would have been the more satisfying outcome, pinning someone else or pinning the champion? Or the flip side, what if you wasn't pinned, but still walked out empty-handed? Do you blame the other person or do you blame yourself? You don't think Jessie Salco being thrown in this wasn't an accident? You don't think for one second that Jessie Salco doesn't see you as a legitimate threat? You don't think SCW wants you to fail again on pay-per-view?
“Traci, open your eyes. SCW doesn't think you're good enough, they don't think you've got it in you, they don't think you're up to my caliber. And hey, they're right. You're just a rookie. Sure, you've got the strength and the power, but that's it. I mean, who have you've beaten? Other than Vixen and Angela Fallon. I've beaten former Bombshell, Tag Team, and Roulette Champions. Faith, Laura Jackson, Misty and Vixen, Joanne Canelli, Nessa Wall, and that's only the SCW list. There's a lot more names where that came from, but they wouldn't matter here."
She pauses and takes a deep breath.
“SCW is worried that I'm going to make you look like a fool again. They're having second thoughts that even if I don't pin you, you're going to once again fail on the biggest stage and with the entire world watching. They're worried that this little foreigner (She goes theatrics) is going to embarrass you. But then again, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I'm reading a little too into this. Maybe SCW is looking out for your best interest and is simply giving you another shot at the Bombshell Roulette Championship as I was given so many times before. Black mark, maybe. But nobody thought I would win a SCW title let alone become a two-time champion either."
Mercedes brings the Bombshell Roulette Championship, holding it out to the camera as she talks.
"But Traci when you see me standing over you and Jessie victorious with my hand raised still the reigning and defending Sin City Wrestling Bombshell Roulette Champion...”
Mercedes leans forward just a bit in her chair.
"I'm not telling you what you already know.”
And with that, Mercedes offers a chuckle as our scene fades just as she reaches over to turn off the camera.
