A Mercy Carol
« on: December 20, 2013, 11:09:45 PM »

Twas two nights before Climax Control, when all through her mind
There was one thing Mercedes kept forgetting, though it was a waste of her time.
So, our scene opens up at a local Ramada,
Just on the outskirts of Las Vegas, Nevada

As we find her at a breakfast table, trying to remember now and again
She's munching on Wheat Thins, while she does a crossword - in pen!
Though no one could fault her being so idle
In 48 hours, she would contend for the Bombshell Roulette Title.

With the opponents she would be facing, two newcomers and Joanne Canelli
She was prepared for them, sure. But would they be ready?

SCW was back in Vegas for the second week in a row
Only this time instead of the Boys & Girls Club, they would be at the Gold Coast Casino

People would probably lose their money while placing their bets,
Hoping for anything but a major upset
Ah, but Mercedes knew better, there would be no debate
That three names would be sharing a similar fate

This was supposed to be a match up, but it was far from that, hardly
Especially against one Jersey Devil Diva and the Buff Barbie
She's already bested JoJo, beat Traci twice, too
Oh well, it's not like they had anything better to do

They should get use to disappointment, they should know what that's like
So, she wasn't expecting much of a fight
Joanne wasn't a problem, even for all her tough talk
Did she think Mercy was afraid of her because Jersey has a Boardwalk?

But then, she's' seen her type before, the spoiled brat effect and such
When her Mother wanted to hire someone to take care of Joanne, the Mafia wanted too much!
If Little Miss Guido knew any better, she would do well to respect her wishes
Or else, she'll be the next one finding Nemo, when she swimming with the fishes!

It' very unlikely Mercedes was walking out with a loss, she shrugs her shoulders as she writes the answer to 3-across.
Traci Patterson is a sore loser. Then again, she hails from Dallas
They have a big ego about everything, and that place isn't Caesar's Palace

Last time she faced Traci, she proved that brains always beat brawn
And when they meet Sunday, she won't prove her wrong
Of course, there was also "The Prodigy", Lizzie Short was her name
Mercedes was just anxious to put this newcomer to shame!

If "The Lord" Matthew Kennedy was delivering a sermon this Sunday,
He might also want to offer a eulogy come what may
It wasn't enough that his prodigy was on her checklist
But after what Lizzie said about her, now she was asking for a death wish

If 24-hour wedding chapels are the norm in Sin City,
Does Lizzie meeting her maker count? And if so, can it be done quickly?
If Mercy had her way, the Brit wouldn't be a household word.
And the answer to 5-five down was a name of a bird.

She could hear the hype now, she could hear the idle chatter,
The Prodigy, Buff Barbie or the Jersey Devil Diva. Oh, what did it matter?
In this four corners contender's match, there's only one who'll face Amy Marshall
That would be the Argentine Assassin. Let it be known from every brothel!

It seems we reached the end of our little rhyme. Plus, I've stayed up way past my bedtime
Five days before Christmas, two days before Climax Control
Wait! We're heading to Vegas? OK, I'm sold!

Yes, this four corner's match appears to be in her favor...

Mercedes, annoyed, slams her hands on the table.

Mercedes: OK, that's enough out of you! Catcha later, Narrator.

Mercedes smiles at her handiwork. The Friday's New York Times crossword was filled in without a single stray ink mark. Many a brave sold has attempted this worthy endeavor; very few has succeeded. Frustrations mounted whenever a pen broke, stopped writing, or was borrowed from the occasional tourist and never returned. Filling out that final square was an accomplishment in and of itself on an otherwise dreary, cold, and snowy evening in Las Vegas. Having already done away with the Christmas shopping, her mind was now at ease. Her focus was now ahead to her next challenge.

Mercedes gets up from the table, airing out the crossword section before placing the New York Times under her arm. Today was hard, but the easy part came on Sunday. The only thing standing between failure and another match with Amy Marshall was herself. The only standing between failure and making history was reality.

With a spring in her step, the scene fades out as Mercedes leaves the area, shuts off the light, and walks off.
