The West-Ward Blogicles
Season 2, Entry #14 -- “Always Second Best.”

“So let me get this straight...”

Ty West, our hero and future Roulette champion, holds his phone up to be viewed. He is sweaty after just completing his morning Run.

Ty: “I say I need to prove myself. That I want there to be no doubt that I deserve another chance at the world title and you give me Joshua Aquin.”

He chuckles, obviously frustrated. I mean I would be frustrated too.

Ty: “This feels like an easy win. Why bother further humiliating this guy more? Is it because he made Christian mad? I really don't want to be a means to an end for some political horseshit. However, this leads up to another shot at the Roulette title. This I have mixed feelings for. I have continuously fell short of obtaining that brass ring for as long as I have been a member of the SCW roster. However, the difference now is that my potential opponent is not a whiny, inconsiderate brat nor is he trying to get the attention of someone out of his league. Ben Jordan seems to be looking for someone to take up the reigns.”

This Joshua guy is saying that he didn’t actually lose because he passed out. Which is fair, the same thing happened to Ty with Fenris if you remember... but... He couldn’t get past Ty in any other match they have been a part of. So I don’t think he should be so cocky.

Ty: “It would be easy to move to one side of the spectrum or the other.  I could easily say that I am ready, that I am going to run through Joshua and Ben and finally get the title that should have been mine months ago or I could wade down in the murky waters of shame and low self esteem over not having a very good track record for any title. One is very arrogant and the other is pathetic. Fortunately, I am neither. I was serious when I said I wanted to earn all the opportunities I get, because I’ll be damned if anyone is going to sit back and accuse me of kissing ass to get my shots.”

He seems to look away, as if thinking about how next words carefully.

Ty: “Everyone comes here with gold in their sights. Anyone that says differently is lying. Everything in life is about working toward a goal. And yes, my goal is to be a champion in SCW. If beating Joshua one more time is what the guys backstage think is worthy of another Roulette shot, then who am I to argue that? And once I get that, it's only a matter of time before I am worthy to go up against Fenris again and I guarantee that this time, a third time really will be a charm. At this point, what do I have to lose? Once you hit the bottom there is nowhere to go but up and I’m going to a way higher altitude then I was before.”

He really is so handsome when he has his confidence back. It was a really, really bad time these last few weeks. He was even seen getting Froyo in jogging pants... I mean... yuck. Even for Ty.

Ty: “Honestly, I don't have anything new to really say about Josh. Simply because he hasn't done anything noteworthy in the three weeks since I last faced him. Except maybe jump ship from Jessie to Amy. Not exactly admirable in my books. Don't let him fool you though Ames... I’m sure this guy has some ulterior motive here.”

He offers a shrug. I didn’t peg Ty as someone who actually cares about Amy Santino. I’m sorry. I just don’t have a lot of respect for someone like her.

“For everytime Josh has claimed to be better equipped to be a champion he hasn't been able to get me out of the way. Unless he's taken some super soldier serum or been bestowed the powers of a God, I don't see a different outcome this time. I’m already certain that what I have is better than what he offers in a ring. That's not arrogance when you have video evidence to back it up.”

Joshua Whateverhisface needs to step off my Ty with his stupid ‘I’m going to have it easy this time...’ this dude hasn’t really won a match in like... a long time... so he can go... suck an egg!  Oh my... I’m sorry... I don’t usually use bad language!

“So here's to Joshua, always second best.”

Law offices of Wellington and Powers
Los Angeles...[/i,]
Friday, August 31

Ty West is dressed in a suit that is perfectly taylored to his body. He's opted not to wear a tie though as he sits beside his best friend, Effie Bingham. She is equally well dressed and beside her is her lawyer, Manford Wellington. On the opposite side are Effie's two older brothers. The oldest, Trace, looks bored to be there as if he couldn't be bothered and the other one. Tobey, sighs heavily while looking at his watch.

Tobey: “Is this going to take long? Victoria and I have a meeting with the wedding planner.”

Effie chuckles.

Effie: “So Vicki finally gave you an ultimatum, eh?”

Tobey looks annoyed.

Trace clears his throat and the family lawyer, Jason Smith, folds his hands on the table.

Manford: “Well, we called you here to discuss the terms of your suit. From what I understand you claim that Effie should be only entitled to 1/3 of the inheritance?”

Jason: “Correct. As she had three children, my clients feel that they are both entitled to a portion of their mother's estate.”

Effie shakes her head.

Effie: “Unbelievable. Like you asshole’s don't already have everything.”

Ty puts a hand on top of Effie's to calm her. He knows though that a lot of her frustration is going to come out in her match on Sunday.

Manford: “My client is counter suing, naming both of you plus your father in the suit claiming mental abuse for years.”

He pushes the papers toward Trace as he says it and before Manford can finish his words, Trace is holding the document, counting as being served the papers. His lawyer sighs deeply at his client.

Manford: “She is willing to drop this suit and sign a document that she will never pursue damages in the future, should you let her have the entire estate. She does have a very strong case including witness testimony confirming that all three of you, essentially leased her out to business associates as a way to close deals.”

The look on Tobey’s face is enough to have Effie burst out laughing. Ty squeezes her hand and she shuts up. It's a good thing Ty is there or Effie would be in heaps of trouble.

Trace whispers to his lawyer and they effectively have a private conversation before Jason looks up and nods.

Manford: “Excellent. I’ll have the papers drawn up and couriered to you.”

He offers his hand as the trio of men stand. Jason is the only one to shake and they leave. Manford turns to Effie.

Manford: “You were lucky this time Miss Bingham. With how...”

He raises his eyebrows for emphasis.

Manford: “Liberal you are with your words, I have a sneaking suspicion that this will not be the first time my services will be needed...”

Ty smirks and shakes his head.

Ty: “Thank you Manford, as always you do an excellent job.”

The older man with a part down the middle of his dark, greying hair shakes Ty’s hand.

Manford: “Let Chester know that this makes us even. The next one isn’t going to be pro bono. You kids have a good weekend.”

Manford Wellington walks toward his office doors, leaving Ty and Effie alone in the waiting area of the law office. Ty sighs deeply and starts to walk toward the elevator.

Effie: “What? No brotherly speech... I’m disappointed pretty boy.”

They get on and Ty presses the button for the ground floor, he doesn’t say anything until the doors close.

Ty: “I know that this wasn’t something you should be the blame for but next time, it might be. You don’t think about what you say and it could get you in a lot of trouble. People are very sensitive these days.”

Effie nods in agreement.

Effie: “Oh I know... I mean look at whatsherface... she like went all psycho about what I said on twitter...”

Ty holds up his hand.

Ty: “I don’t want to talk about that. What’s more important is your focus. Amy pretty much thinks you’re a joke now because of that ridiculous promo you posted.”

Effie grins.

Effie: “Oh I know. That was the point. I want her to think she is going to have this easy. I want her to be underwhelmed so that when she gets in the ring with me I can revel in that shocked look on her face. She thinks I idolize her... it’s hilarious. It’s called rope a dope and I roped me a big one. But, I won’t tell her that.”

Ty: “And if you lose?”

Effie shrugs.

Effie: “Then she goes home feeling all big and proud of herself but come on, we both know that given her track record lately there is no way in hell she’s going to beat Evie...”

She pulls out a sucker from her pocket and rips off the paper. She sticks it in her mouth and Ty raises an eyebrow.

Effie: “Oral fixation. It helps okay. Not smoking really fucks me up.”

The doors don't open and Ty is the first to step off with Effie following close behind him.

Effie: “And what about you? You gotta fight that guy with the brain of a goldfish again. HOw many times you gotta pummel this dipshit before they recognize that you should just be facing Ben Jordan already.”

Ty stops outside the doors and Effie slowly catches up, standing beside him but not looking at him. Instead both of them watch the LA traffic in front of them for a few seconds.

Effie: “You try to look all brave and knightly but I know, deep down you are shitting your pants right now because if you falter for even a second that dipshit could pin you and then all hope of being taken seriously are fucking done.”

Ty doesn’t say anything and Effie pats his arm.

Effie: “It’s cool Pretty Boy. Everyone knows you got this.”

She punches him in the arm and then crosses the street. She gives him a wave before disappearing into the subway entrance. She was an enigma. She had literally millions of dollars in her bank but yet she was taking the subway.

He pulls out his phone and sees that he missed a call during the meeting. With a deep breath he calls back using video. Her face brings a smile to his face when she answers.

Courtney Pierce rolls her eyes.

Courtney: Are you coming back here today?

Ty: Yup. You know it. I can’t let your parents down afterall, I was invited for dinner to celebrate that you are whole once more.

Courtney sighs deeply.

Courtney: I will never know how in the living fuck you made my parents fall in love with you.

Ty shrugs, flashing her a smile.

Ty: “I”m still hoping it will work on you eventually.”

If they had been in person she would have kicked him. He had bruises to prove that it had been her goto response for anything that irritated her, which was almost everything he attempted to do or had done since she broke her hand.

Courtney: Keep dreaming. That is never going to happen.

Ty however, and this particular fan girl, don’t believe her for a second. We have a poll going about how long it’s going to take before this girl realizes how utterly handsome our Ty is. She’s lucky and should just let go of all her hostility already.

Ty: Oh I dream... I have a lot of mental images to use as inspiration.

He taps his head. He is purposely teasing her although he knows that it is going to have repercussions once he gets to her parents house.

Courtney: “So is Effie going to jail yet?”

She quickly changes the subject, which Ty had realized she did whenever a conversation got too personal or she couldn’t answer it without revealing some deep buried Courtney secret.

Ty: “No. She blackmailed them into dropping the suit. But I did tell her she’s gotta watch herself or next time she’s going to be in deep shit.”

Courtney shrugs.

Courtney: I really couldn’t care less to be honest, I was just wondering if we were all going to be spared her garbage for a bit. I guess not, damn.

Ty of course can see through everything although he doesn’t let on. He was going to let Courtney think she was winning this battle as long as he could because it kept her around and he wanted nothing more than for her to BE around.

Ty: Are you coming to the show?

She shrugs.

Courtney: “Maybe, I haven’t decided yet. Are you going to actually win this time? Not choke like every other time you get a roulette shot?”

It hit Ty hard but he knew that this was just how Courtney was. She wasn’t someone that romanticized anything in her life and he was growing to appreciate that.

Ty: “I’m planning on bringing Joshua down from his cloud. Because he’s in la la land if he thinks that he’s getting this away from me.”

She nods her head.

Courtney: “Drive safe, My parents will miss you if you die.”

With that, she hung up and Ty laughs to himself as he walks toward the little rented corvette parked on the street. The meter still has a half hour on it and he hopes that the next person to take the spot could use a bit of good luck today. Lord knows, he sure did.
