Everyone wants to be a hero
« on: December 08, 2017, 07:25:43 AM »
You know that whole saying, you never forget where you are when something huge happens in life, something either historic, or generally something that changes the course of the world, or something that impacts your life right out of the blue. Will the older generation forget where they were when they heard that the Germans had waved the white flag and the British and their allies have won the war? Will they ever forget that voice on the radio or where they were standing when they said that our homes were now safe from bombs? When Kennedy got assassinated, people still remember the exact spot they was standing in when they heard of that tragic news. How about September eleventh? I remember where I was that day when I heard about that rag head bastards attack and I will never forget it. Even up to modern times, will you ever forget where you were when they announced Donald Trump was the American President? Will you ever forget your outrage? Probably not, but ya knew where ya feet was planted at the time.

Now there's just four events there that changed the way of the world, your world, the world that you were living in. The Germans showed they couldn't hack it and peace would soon follow, a country went in to  mourning, terrorists were more prominent and a country united in contempt for one man. History changed but you remember where your arse was sitting when it did.

On Monday, history was changed again on a much smaller scale. It wouldn't effect the whole world, but seriously mate, it would effect a lot of people. It was a murder to entertainment. Now I'm sitting here and you people are hearing my voice a few days later and it hasn't sunk in to me head yet, but I'm sure it will. I won't forget where I was when I heard that news, when I heard that SCW was closing. I don't think Os or the girls will either to be honest. We never saw it coming...

Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport - Yeah, what a place to find out news like this.

A mid Monday morning was a strange time at an airport, the tourists thinning out for more business related travel, this was the reason that Daniel J Morgan was sitting at a table in an airport bar, his hand wrapped around a cup of tea.

Just cause I'm English and heading to Vegas, you expected beer, right?

His eyes peered in to the cup as he picked it up, his lips softly meeting the cup as he sipping the warm liquid. His eyebrows lower as he put the cup back on the table.

"Bloody yanks couldn't make a decent cuppa if their lives depended on it." He mutters "What I wouldn't give for a cup of PG Tips right now."

Daniel slides the cup away from him, pushing it across the smooth table and looks at a newspaper on the table, lifting it up and looking at the headline. Disinterested, it was almost a relief to see the daunting figure of Osbourne walking towards him, with Charlotte Elliot and Mackenzie Page in the close vicinity, following the big man. Osbourne takes a seat to the right of Daniel, Charlotte to the left, Mackenzie opposite.

"So what's the plan for today, boss?" Mackenzie asks, her eyes looking deeply at Daniel.

"First off, I find a decent cuppa, cause this is rubbish." He complains as he pushes the cup further away "Then we fly back to Vegas and you can have the day off, do as you please."

San Jose, just ninety minutes away from Las Vegas, the short trip never did phase any of the group, it wasn't like they were stuck on a plane for hours all the way from Australia.

"Hey, can you turn that up?" A male voice can be heard saying, catching Daniel's attention.

"What the bloody hell?" Daniel says softly "Airport ain't noisy enough."

Daniel looks towards where the voice is coming from, before his eyes trace along the man's line of vision, slightly curious to what is going on, to see the man looking at one of the televisions situated in the bar.

"TMZ on TV?" Daniel says with a sigh "Absolute dog shit TV right there."

He turns his head away, but the female reporters words on the screen changes that quickly.

"We've just got some huge breaking news." The female reporter says.

"Who died now?" The sarcastic tone from Daniel's voice says.

Osbourne looks at the television though his sunglasses covered eyes and taps Daniel on the shoulder, pointing towards the screen.

"We've learned in the last few minutes that Las Vegas based wrestling company Sin City Wrestling is set to close down in the middle of January." The reporter informs the viewers.

Daniel looks towards Charlotte and Mackenzie, the three just sharing stares at each other, before turning their attention towards the television set that Osbourne is already looking at.

"The news comes as a huge shock to the wrestling community." The reporter continues "Considering SCW is thought to be on a secure financial standing, and has been a part of the Las Vegas scenery since October 2011, starting small before rapidly growing and expanding in to California, Arizona, as well as two yearly tours. SCW also broke a record for the most countries visited in for a wrestling federation in 2015, after taking the company on the road for a year long world tour."

"Is it April 1st?" Charlotte mutters under her breath.

"Already, messages of support has flown in for Sin City Wrestling." The report continues "Current and ex SCW stars have taken to social media, hoping that this is just a rumour, but our sources tell us this is not a rumour, and January 14th will signal the end of what would be two hundred shows, forty one supercards, spanning the whole world over. We're not sure what the reasons are behind this shocking news, we hear it may have been something that seemed to snowball dating back to earlier this year, but we will bring you more as we get it."

Another glance around the group of four, yet no words spoken.

"But if this is the end for Sin City Wrestling." The reporter continues "It's been one hell of a ride!"

You know I said earlier about never forgetting where you were when something changed the course of life as you know it? Well there's another saying out there to go in here - Silence speaks louder than words. It's true, when you just don't have those words to speak, it speaks volumes for you. This is where we are right now. It's shocking news, did any of us really expect it? Come on, we were all at work last night, we sat there, we did our jobs, we entertained, things chugged along as usual. I get it when businesses are failing, but was SCW failing? Not a chance. I've spent my life around businesses, alright, not all of them on the right side of the law, but I know when a business is bad, and this wasn't bad. Days later, the out pour from the Internet, current, former and people never to step in an SCW ring showing more respect that I might have ever seen before, makes me suspicious of what went on. Whoever's responsible for the start of this should be publicly flogged

The silence was almost deafening as the group looked around each other, Daniel clearly in thought.

"I've been sacked in worse ways I guess." Daniel says with a shrug.

"Probably not the best time to joke." Mackenzie says, an unusual tone of disappointment in her voice.

"She's probably right." Charlotte adds. "Where does this leave us in your master plan?"

A thoughtful look crosses Daniel's face as he looks down at his discarded tea cup, before looking up at the women.

"It changes nothing." Daniel says "We're being sponsored to be in the country by Gabriel, and Odette with words from Christian and Mark. Work permit will probably bugger up but only until we find another gig as entertainers. Nothing changes at all. We got the cash to not have to work while permanent residency bounces through."

"We gotta be entertainers to get work permits?" Mackenzie says with a smile. "Maybe Os can be a singer or something."

Osbourne stares at the smiling Mackenzie and doesn't say a word as he slightly turns his head towards Daniel.

"If you wanna break out a tune son, don't let me stop ya." Daniel says with a smile. "We got a little bit of time to figure this thing out, it ain't gonna change much. Look, I need to speak to Gabriel at some point anyway because I accepted that match with Acquin so I need to have a chat with the chief. Get a little advice on what seems like me first ever and only singles match I may have."

Daniel stands up and straightens his suit jacket.

"Come on." He tells the group. "We got a plane to catch."

The group join him on his feet before walking off towards a flight gate.

Full Circle... Looks like there was no false alarm, not a joke. It really is the end and the outpour from the wrestling community has been amazing, I mean it's Friday right now and retweet after retweet from the SCW main Twitter for days from people I've never heard of. Maybe they're trying to pick the bones or something but it's there, people have been saddened by this. I won't lie to any of you, I just started liking this wrestling shit, but ah well, let's go full pelt and have a full circle of my own

Just a few lights, light up the six sided ring in Gabriel's wrestling gym as Daniel J Morgan just strolls around the ring. In his mind, he keeps it ticking over thinking of how to do things slightly differently. This was a new prospect to him, his first ever one on one match against a seasoned vet like Joshua Acquin. Acquin has been around for a long time, one of the names synonymous would the Sin City Wrestling brand for years. Daniel loved a challenge but this one wasn't a normal one. He'd always had Osbourne on the outside to reach out to, this time, he was in there alone.

"It's not much different from a normal tag match you know." Gabriel's voice says, causing Daniel to turn his head towards Gabriel, and Despayre, Despayre with Angel and a bag of pretzels in his hand.

"Except when ya getting ya booty stomped in to the ground and you're not allowed to tag out." Despayre adds "Then it's real different. You hurt a lot more in the morning."

Daniel moves towards the ropes and looks down at Gabriel and Despayre.

"Sorry, thought I was in here on me own." Daniel tells him.

"You was." Despayre says with a smile. "Then you wasn't, cause we showed up because I thought I had potato chips, but it turned out they were pretzels."

Daniel points a thumb towards Despayre.

"Is he feeling alright?" Daniel asks. "Did he trip over and hit his head?"

"Not in the last ten minutes." Despayre responds with a cheery smile.

Daniel leans on the top rope, looking down at Gabriel and Despayre on the floor of the building and shrugs his shoulders.

"Any advice?" Daniel asks.

"Don't lose." Despayre fires back quickly.

"Brilliant." Daniel says rolling his eyes.

"It's really not that much different." Gabriel tells him. "It's all about pacing. First single match I had, I was blowing up like a balloon, but it's about pacing yourself through this one and not over thinking it. You have good stamina, probably better than I did in my first match. Times changed a lot and we do use better training methods these days. You've got nothing to worry about at all."

"Except like cutting your promo." Despayre adds. "Those things can be scary."

"Already got that in mind." Daniel adds quickly. "Check it out"

He clears his throat and steps in to the middle of the ring, the camera moving on to him while Despayre and Gabriel watch.

"The world loves a hero." Daniel starts with confidence. "Right now, modern times, you can't switch on the television without some kinda superhero on the screen, some kinda show where someone is saving the world, standing up for the little guy, fighting for what's right and for justice. See, the superhero though, he thinks that he is invincible, unstoppable, he's the hero, the hero doesn't die, the hero doesn't get shot down in a blaze of glory, he just gets the glory. That is what's in the mind of a hero. That was in your mind just a little bit Joshua when ya made a challenge towards us, wasn't it?"

Daniel taps the side of his head.

"That's what was running through ya head when you decided to open your gob and speak out against me." Daniel says firmly.

"Gob?" Despayre can be heard saying off camera.

"Mouth Despy." Gabriel's response off camera can be heard.

"Why didn't he just say that then?" Despayre can be heard asking.

Daniel rolls his eyes at the two outside of the ring.

"You didn't think of what comes along with things, did ya Joshua?" Daniel asks "All you thought of was the glory you'd get by defending her honour. Newsflash for ya mate, Amy Marshall hasn't had honour since she was about fourteen. You're defending a dead cause here, but I get it, you want to play the hero. Here's the thing, playing the hero, also means you run the risks of looking like a right lemon by the end of it and trust me when I say, that is exactly how you will end up looking. You might be sitting there thinking that I'm just a little ol' tag team wrestler, nothing more, nothing less and you should be able to get through me with ease."

Daniel calmly strolls towards the ropes.

"But sometimes Joshua, things don't go as planned." Daniel informs him. "Sometimes the hero makes a mistake, sometimes the hero does die and Joshua, as soon as you picked up your phone, made a little tweet or two, to defend a couple of people who proved were not very good, the writing is very much on the wall for you. Thing is, they're not very good, but one of them is a grand slam champion for some reason that the worlds best scientists can't seem to work out. How you doing on that front?"

Daniel just casually shrugs his shoulders, a smile on his face.

"You shouldn't be making challenges to people much better then you and it's pretty obvious that we are a class above you." Daniel tells him. "You couldn't beat Osbourne, you couldn't beat Mackenzie, you couldn't beat Charlotte, so you damn sure better get out of your mind that you're actually gonna beat me. You over shot thinking that you was gonna get that big match with us at Climax Control 200, you let those stars get in your eyes thinking about a big match on a big night, but the truth is, you won't be getting those dreams superhero. You won't be getting that spotlight, you won't be getting anywhere near that"

Daniel confidently smiles.

"What you will get is that disappointed feeling in the pit of your stomach knowing you tried to save the day, tried to look like a man of substance and just couldn't do it." Daniel says waving a finger. "What you'll get is what you deserve and you deserve a good smack in the chops for even stepping up to me."

"Punch to the face before you ask, Despy." Gabriel says off camera.

"I wasn't gonna ask." Despayre's voice is heard saying. "I knew what it mean, but Angel didn't."

Daniel fires a smile in the direction of the off camera Despayre, used to the young man's antics through out his training. He looks back out in to the imaginary crowd.

"I don't know where your future lies after SCW Joshua." Daniel says "I really don't, but after this match, I will be giving you something long and hard to think about. I will be making you wonder deep down, if you still has what it takes to compete at any level, because come Sunday, I'm gonna make you look bang average. I'm gonna make you look like the past it guy that you are."

He runs his hand over his chin.

"You're gonna wish that you never had your head up Amy Marshall's arse, cause it's got you in a whole world of trouble." He says firmly.

"Ewwww" Despayre can be heard saying off camera. "That's just nasty!"

"Facts are facts." Daniel says "And here's one for you Acquin. Come Sunday, my one and only solo wrestling match, the man who stands up for the down trodden, he don't win. The man who puts on the cape and masks to defend the innocent because of a few mean words, he don't win. Acquin, the fact is, you don't win. I can't make it clearer than that."

Daniel pauses and walks towards the ropes, leaning on the top rope towards Despayre and Gabriel outside of the ring.

"How's that?" He asks the two.

"Not bad at all." Gabriel responds. "Now I tell you what, you want practice in single stuff, Despayre here is signed for Climax Control 200, I reckon you two could get in there and get some practice."

"Alright" Despayre says, placing Angel on the ring apron and putting the bag of pretzels in front of him. "Defend these as if they're potato chips."

Despayre waves his finger at Angel before rolling in the ring and the scene fades to back.
