{The scene opens with Roxi and Keira preparing to head out to find Amy Jo Smyth. Keira gets a puzzled look on her face and turns to Roxi.}
Keira – So… where are we going? How exactly do we find Amy Jo?
Roxi – Atlantic City.
Keira – Atlantic City? That place is a tourist destination. She’ll be among thousands of people.
Roxi – We can narrow down the search.
Keira – How?
Roxi – We’re going at night, and we hit the actual Boardwalk.
Keira – How does that narrow it down?
Roxi – If we wait long enough, she’ll be there.
Keira – That is a tremendous shot in the dark. You seriously can’t be banking on that.
{Roxi turns to Keira, shrugging.}
Roxi – Oh, I can just text her.
{Keira glares at Roxi, not liking the joke.}
Keira – Why would you do that to me? And how did you get her number anyway?
Roxi – I went to her party she had.
{Keira scoffs, seemingly insulted.}
Keira – And I wasn’t invited? Why not?
{Keira puts her hands on her hips, awaiting an explanation.}
Roxi – Because… Taryn was there.
{Keira frowns and shakes her head.}
Keira – Then it’s probably good I wasn’t there. I would have twisted her stupid head off like a bottle cap! And then poured booze down the neckhole. And then set her on fire!
{Roxi clutches Keira shoulder to stop her from continuing with her graphic description.}
Roxi – Relax. You’ll get your chance soon enough. But it was a party for her title victory, It was as rough as it sounded, and Taryn was acting really jealous of me and everybody there, I think she was drunk.
{Keira rolls her eyes in disgust.}
Keira – Big surprise there.
Roxi – Knock it off.
{Keira sticks out her tongue as Roxi pulls out her phone and texts Amy Jo.}
Roxi – Just waiting on the reply.
Keira – Well, I give it 20 seconds or 20 minutes.
Roxi – What do you mean?
Keira – There’s really no in between with people. They either reply super fast, or super slow.
{Roxi thinks about this for a moment.}
Roxi – Huh… you know that’s pretty true.
{Roxi’s phone dings the response of Amy Jo. She looks up at Keira after reading it and smiles.}
Roxi – She’s on her way.
Keira – Wow. Alright then. That was fast…
{Keira’s eyes narrow. She turns to Roxi with a suspicious look on her face.}
Keira – That was… too fast. What happened between you two?
Roxi – We made out. For like… 5 seconds.
Keira – That’s it?
Roxi – Yeah.
Keira – You swear?
Roxi – Yes!
Keira – Don’t lie.
Roxi – That’s all that happened. I swear. I asked for it. She did it, end of story. That’s all I wanted from her, and that’s all that happened.
{Keira stares at Roxi for a moment.}
Roxi – You don’t trust me? You know I love you. More than anything in the world.
{Keira finally drops her guard, relaxing her frame.}
Keira – I trust you.
Roxi – Alright, now… let’s go.
{Keira takes Roxi’s hand and the two transmit to Atlantic City in full costume. Arrving on a nearby roof, Roxi and Keira make their way into an alley, near the bar they called Amy Jo to.}
Keira – So… what do we do?
Roxi – We wait…
Keira – No, I meant… you know… we’re in costume…
Roxi – Oh… right… well… we have to trust Amy Jo.
{Keira shakes her head, no really agreeing with this.}
Keira – Are you sure that’s wise? She doesn’t really know us.
Roxi – It’s the only way. Either that, or we have a super hard time convincing her to help two wrestlers turned amateur police officer about a murder case we’ve collected evidence for.
{Keira sighs, nodding in agreement.}
Keira – Okay, we’ll do this your way.
Roxi – Thank you.
{Roxi and Keira wait for Amy Jo to show up, and sure enough, she appears, standing outside the bar as requested. She looks around curiously for Roxi and Keira, until she peers into the alley, finding the two superheroes waiting.}
Roxi – There she is.
{Amy Jo looks extremely confused at the two masked women in front of her. She shakes her head in utter dismay.}
Amy Jo – Um… I’m either too drunk, or not drunk enough. I am so confused right now.
Roxi – Amy Jo… It’s me.
Amy Jo – Me who?
{Roxi motions for Amy Jo to come closer, which she cautiously obliges. Roxi looks around, making sure the coast is clear before she pulls her mask up. Amy Jo looks a little shocked.}
Roxi – Yeah.
Amy Jo – Roxi? Taking the whole superhero thing quite literally aren’t you?
Roxi – You don’t know the half of it.
{Amy Jo looks over at Keira.}
Amy Jo – So… this must be Keira.
Roxi – Yes.
Amy Jo – So… what’s with the get ups? Not that I’m opposed to you in skin tight spandex.
{Amy Jo smirks while Roxi slides her mask back down.}
Roxi – We need your help.
{Amy Jo arches a brow.}
Amy Jo – Oh? Uh… I’m a little too old for dress up. And…. Also I’m married so this… probably isn’t a good time for a three-way.
Roxi – No, no… nothing like that.
Keira – Though we’ll keep that option in mind.
{Amy Jo folds her arms and shakes her head.}
Amy Jo – Seriously…What is this?
Roxi – We need you to help us, you’re a cop right?
Amy Jo – Retired… Why?
Roxi – We’ve got… a case we’re working on, and we need your expertise.
{Amy Jo looks confused, trying to put two and two together.}
Amy Jo – Wait, are you trying to tell me you really are superheroes? Is that… that was this is?
{Roxi stares at her, and then shrugs.}
Roxi – Yes?
Keira – It’s all true.
Amy Jo – Wait… seriously? I thought Bryan was the only one dumb enough to do that.
Roxi – Yeah, been meaning to talk to him about that. He needs to stop if he already hasn’t.
Amy Jo – That’s a bit… hypocritical, don’t you think?
Roxi – I’ve been doing this for a long time. I know the risks, so does Keira. Bryan may get himself hurt.
Amy Jo – You guys are taking this way too seriously.
Roxi – The point is, we need your help.
Amy Jo – Can’t the superheroes take care of things? Why would you need a mere mortal? I’m not sure how I would fare against some jacked up super mutant or something.
Roxi – It’s nothing like that. Neither Keira nor I would ask you to get involved in anything like that. If it was, we wouldn’t be here for your help.
{Amy Jo folds her arms, looking more intrigued than anything else.}
Amy Jo – So what’s the problem?
Roxi – We’ve got a serial killer on the loose in the city.
Amy Jo – And the Police?
Roxi – Working on it. As are we.
Amy Jo – I don’t see how I fit into this…
Keira – The police… are not exactly forthcoming with information. They don’t like us too much.
Amy Jo – Well, all things considered, I can see why.
Keira – They’re supposed to cooperate. But, no such luck.
Amy Jo – Can’t the police handle it? It’s not exactly a sea monster or supervillain you’re talking about
Roxi – It’s our job to protect people. The Police are overburdened as it is. We help get this case in order, and this guy behind bars, the better off we’ll all be.
Amy Jo – So… what is it you need me to do?
Roxi – You may know some people down there. Come with us, help us with any profiling that can be done. Maybe you can get access to things we can’t. Files, evidence…
Amy Jo – I don’t know what kind of cop you think I am, but it’s not like I can just barge in there and take over the case.
Roxi – Not asking you to do that, but, maybe come back to our apartment, we’ll show you what we have, and see if that helps?
{A questioning look crosses Amy Jo’s face as her arms remain folded. She looks around, not really sure what to make of this whole situation.}
Amy Jo – I can’t just… up and leave here right now. Got things to sort out. As I’m sure you know.
{Amy Jo gives Roxi a knowing look. Roxi nods in an understanding way.}
Roxi – I get that.
Keira – It’s not like you’d be gone long.
{Keira steps forward, in front of Roxi.}
Keira – We can take you to the apartment and back in no time flat.
Amy Jo – Excuse me?
Roxi – We… we can transmit. Anywhere we need to go in an instant.
{Amy Jo scoffs, really not believing this.}
Amy Jo – Okay… this is a joke, right? If this is a joke, it’s no longer funny. I mean, do you think I’m stupid? You have super powers?
Roxi – How do you think we got here?
Amy Jo – You were in AC, weren’t you?
Roxi – No. We were are our apartment in Tampa.
Amy Jo – Bullshit.
{Amy Jo can’t help but shake her head, the idea insane to her.}
Amy Jo – Okay, okay, joke’s over. Alright? Don’t insult my intelligence. This –
{Roxi cuts her off, floating a few feet into the air, off the ground, and pulling Amy Jo up with her. Amy Jo’s face is now bewilderment as Roxi gently sets them down.}
Amy Jo – Holy shit you can fly!
Roxi – Can you please… help us?
{Amy Jo has to sit down on a crate to figure everything out. She looks at Roxi, shaking her head.}
Amy Jo – I… I… You said We could be there instantly?
Keira – Yeap. In and out. We’ll put you right back here if you want.
Amy Jo – Okay… look, no offense, but… my head really isn’t in the right place right now. I… I’ll have to think about it. Because… a LOT of shit just changed.
Keira – It’s… it’s alright.
{Keira turns away, looking a little disappointed. Roxi bends down to face Amy Jo who is still trying to catch her breath so to speak.}
Roxi – We’re trusting you. We figured this was the best way to do it. Be honest with you. Keira thought you’d be able to help us. Just… call me, alright? Even if you don’t want to help.
Amy Jo – Yeah…. Yeah sure.
{Roxi pats Amy Jo on the shoulder, before she can Keira round the bend to a clear spot, before disappearing, and leaving Amy Jo alone with her thoughts.}
Out of the frying pan, and into the fire as they say.
I’ll be honest here, never expected to have to face the Fallen, and defend the tag titles so close to another title defense against The Angel Clan. Heck, if we had lost, we’d be sitting here with no match at all. But once again, Team hero proved to up to the task of beating the Fallen. We got the job done for the 3rd time in a row. We proved we were better than they were. Once wasn’t a fluke, the second time was proof, and the third time… it’s Validation. The Fallen can go back to the drawing board because we proved once and for all, we are the superior team.
But, of course, the match was not without its share of scares. I thought maybe that Keira and I got saved a little bit by the time limit expiring. And that’s on us. We should have been better than that. We both knew going in we could not give the Fallen chances like that. I mean, no sports team going into a game thinking, well… we’re probably going to make a few mistakes. Do something dumb and potentially cost ourselves. We didn’t think that going in. We knew the Fallen would be tough, like they always are. They don’t get easier to wrestle or defeat. Especially this last time. I mean, third time facing us for the tag titles. We had no doubts they would come in hungry… no pun intended there, and no doubt they would come in, ready to fight right to the end. And that’s exactly what they did. Did we get a little lucky? Yes. I in no way will sell the Fallen short on that. They took us to the limit, and gave us everything they had. But when the smoke cleared, Team Hero are still the reigning Bombshell’s tag team champions, and now at 111 days and counting.
Making history having these titles, it’s important. But, obviously not the most important. Keira and I want to cement our legacy as not only a good tag team, not only a great tag team, but the best. The best ever. That’s what we’re after. That means not only do we have to break the record for longest tag title reign, we have to beat everyone in our path. I’d say we’re off to a good start so far, but obviously, things are only going to get tougher, as we get closer to our goal. More eyes, more scrutiny. And that’s okay with us. Keira and I have never backed down from a challenge. And we won’t start now. We just came off beating perhaps what is the best tag team in SCW history, for the third time. And now, we move on to something different. This is our time to prove that it’s not just the Fallen we can beat when it matters, but any team, on any given day. This is another tough test in the Angel Clan.
And it’s another challenge Team Hero will rise to meet. No question about it.
We always have been able to rise to challenges. People didn’t give Keira a chance to do what she’s done, and she’s proved them all wrong. People thought Mikah was going to roll over me, and I beat her. Slowly, but surely, we’re going to do what people have been wanting us to do for a very long time. Change SCW for the better. Make the bombshell’s division better. This is the road we’re on, and we’re well on our way to doing just that. It makes me so proud that I get to do it, with my wife.
The road to being the best is a long journey. Keira and I are on that road, and it’s been harder each time we go out there. We face the best. We can beat the best. The Angel Clan has been eyeing this shot for a long time, and it’s no secret how talent they are. Both former singles champions, and Melanie took the Roulette title that Keira was so proud of away from her. Obviously that still stings with Keira. So this defense means a lot to her, and it of course, means a lot to me. She’s my wife after all, and I will stand by her side no matter what. And we’ll continue to be the best tag team in SCW, and accomplish our goals the same way we do everything.
Together.
{The next day, Roxi and Keira are at home, lounging around, when there is a knock at the door. Keira answers it, to find Roxi’s sister Nicole, and Keira’s sister Sencerity as well.}
Nicole – Hey Ke!
Sencerity – Ke!
{Keira hugs them both as Keira looks genuinely surprised to see them. They come in, and take a seat at the kitchen table.}
Keira – Uh… guys, what brings you guys around?
Nicole – Well, we were in the neighborhood, and thought we’d drop by.
Keira – Sen… everything going okay?
Sencerity – Yeap. Things at the training center are amazing as always. How are you guys?
Roxi – Oh, you know. The usual.
{Roxi joins in, hugging her sister and Sencerity before taking a seat at the table.}
Roxi – How’s mom?
Nicole – She’s a lot better. I think she’s completely sober now. Thanks to you bringing her back. Of course, living with me isn’t so bad I guess. She’s just cleaning up a lot. Really throws me off, you know?
Roxi – Yeah, she does that.
Sencerity – She is a mom. And… Nicole’s place could use it.
{Nicole pops Sen in the arm and scoffs, as they all share a laugh.}
Nicole – So… what are you guys up to?
Roxi – Nothing, why?
Nicole, you know what I think? I think we need a sister’s day!
{Sencerity’s eyes light up.}
Sencerity – Yeah, you and me Ke. We’ll go out shopping.
Keira – For Amiibos?
Sencerity – Uh… sure, among other things.
Keira – Great!
Sencerity – We’ll get maybe a manicure or something too!
{Keira smiles, and looks over at Roxi and Nicole}
Keira – What will you guys do?
Roxi – I… I don’t know, I’m sure we can find something.
Nicole – Oh yeah, we’ll hit the town just as hard!
Keira – Awesome. So… I guess… let me change?
Sencerity – Sure… take your time.
{Keira giggles as she enters the bedroom to the change.}
Roxi – Thanks for doing this Sen.
Sencerity – Yeah.. I’ll keep her away for a while.
Nicole – What’s the big idea anyway Rox?
Roxi – I’ll tell you after they’re gone.
{Keira returns a few minutes later, a nice oufit on as Sencerity stands up.}
Sencerity – Well, besties… me and my sis here… we’re gonna go tear it up!
{Keira is almost whisked out of the door by Sencerity, blowing a kiss to Roxi as she leaves.}
Keira – Love you!
{The door shuts. Roxi stands up and rubs her face. Nicole notices Roxi’s uneasiness.}
Nicole – You okay Rox? What’s the deal?
{Roxi sighs, turning to her sister.}
Roxi – I told Keira about our dad a while back.
Nicole – So?
Roxi – She went to see him in Shady Acres.
{Nicole gasps for a split second, and then regains her composure.}
Nicole – And… she saw him?
Roxi – Yeah.
Nicole – Shit… how’d she manage that?
Roxi – I don’t know.
Nicole – Is… is he okay?
Roxi – From what she said, yeah. He seems fine. But… as usual, he didn’t want to see us anymore.
Nicole – He’s been like that since he left. *sigh* I tried Rox. I sent him a Christmas card and everything. And –
Roxi – And it came back. He sends everything back. I used to write him every week. Nothing. He still blames us.
Nicole – But we didn’t do anything! He had the breakdown. He left US! He was living in that old house when I found him. He wasn’t a functioning adult. He was a broken man. I took him to where he could get help.
{Nicole throws her hands up in frustration.}
Roxi – I know. I know. Maybe… maybe he wanted to stay with us…
Nicole – And do what? Rox, that house was in disrepair. He smelled like he hadn’t showered in months. I wasn’t ready to take care of him. Jesus I could barely take care of myself back then. I was just breaking into wrestling. You weren’t around. What was I supposed to do? Or you?
{Roxi places her hands on Nicole’s shoulders to calm her down.}
Roxi – I know, Nicole. I wish I could have been around to at least try and help. But he rejected anything and everything I’ve tried.
{Nicole turns away, shrugging.}
Nicole – Same here. And now Ke’s kicking over a hornet’s nest. Why did she go in the first place?
Roxi – She was trying to help. Lately she’s been… feeling like a weak link I think. So many people like me, and the same just isn’t said for her. She feels like my sidekick, and not my partner. She was trying to do some good.
Nicole – She’s always been good to Sen and I. Why would she feel like that?
Roxi – Her past… It seems that no matter what she’s going to feel inferior. And it’s not true. Her heart was in the right place.
Nicole – It was. What do you think we should do?
Roxi – I’m not 100% sure right now. Keira… she… she may have got to him a little. Maybe made a bit of a connection. At least she thinks so.
Nicole – Do you?
Roxi – Keira has her ways of reaching people. I know she meant well. I’m just concerned that her efforts are going to be for nothing and she’ll end up sad again. I don’t want her to think she failed.
Nicole – Do… do you think we need to try too?
Roxi – I… I would like to but… you know, that could ruin all of Keira’s work. And the last thing I want is that.
Nicole – Yeah… but still… I mean, do you think it’s worth it?
Roxi – I’m not sure. Dad hasn’t been around us in a long time. Things have clearly changed. I mean… Mom’s back. I know what Keira is trying to do. I mean, us… Sen… Maria and Keri are the only family she has left.
{Nicole sits down, running her fingers through her hair and sighing}
Nicole – Well… let me know when you decide what you’re going to do. I want to at least be there to see him. He deserves that.
Roxi – I will. Thanks for getting Sen to help.
{Nicole smiles and waves Roxi off.}
Nicole – It wasn’t that hard. But… you know we still should have a sister day. You and me.
{Roxi smiles, shrugging and rubbing the back of her head.}
Roxi – Yeah. It would be nice.
Nicole – Lunch?
Roxi – Let’s do it.
{Nicole stands up as Roxi grabs the car keys for them to head out as the scene fades.}
It’s no secret that the Angel Clan and Team Hero are on good terms. Melanie and Lucy are our friends. They have been for some time. I remember when they came in not wanting to have to go against them right away because we were friends. It sucked to have to beat them at their very first SCW match, but at the same time, Keira and I were just establishing ourselves as credible tag contenders. And look at how things turned out for us.
That’s not to say the Angel Clan is slacking in any department. They both came in and won singles gold in short order here, and it wasn’t exactly slouches they beat to do it. Keira is no pushover, and Amy Marshall is a hall of famer. Both are tough to beat on any given night. So, the Angel Clan is just as good individually as they are as a team. Once again, we have our work cut out for us like never before. The Angel Clan has only gotten better since our first encounter, and they obviously are in a title drought, not having too many chances until Mel won that tournament, and… good on her for doing that. And although she came up short, it still was an amazing feat. Mel and Lucy are going to give us everything they have, I expect nothing less. And we need to be on our game. In top form in order to turn back a second set of challengers.
But I will always believe in Team Hero. I will always believe that we can beat any team put in front of us. The Angel Clan will no doubt be a fun and exciting match-up for Team Hero. We have fought each and every opponent as Team Hero with the same focus. To beat them, and to be the best. Regardless of who it is, and what their backgrounds are. Team Hero is capable of beating each and every team we step in the ring with. The Angel Clan have lined up, and Team Hero will be ready. We don’t have a choice. We will fight, and we will earn our legacy every step of the way. We will not back down, give up, or back off from any challenge put in front of us. We will be champions to the end. We will true, fighting champions. That’s what Team Hero has always strived to be, whether it be singles, or tag team competition. It’s why we have been so successful. And the main reason we will continue to be, after My Bloody Valentine II.
Mel, Lucy… I wish you both the best of luck. I know how hungry you guys are… but Team Hero… we play for keeps. I know you’ll bring it. You can expect it from us just the same.
See you soon.
