The mother of all non-holidays

The scene opens to show a circular wooden table, which is in the centre of the foreground of the shot. Positioned around the table are four matching chairs, just one of which is occupied, that being the chair that is to the left of the table, and sat in that chair is Simon Jones; Simon is wearing a pair of black jeans and a plain grey t-shirt.

Simon's gaze is concentrated on a laptop that is located in front of him, on the tabletop. A continuous noise is discernible, which appears to be chatter, but the noise is too subdued to be certain. Before long, a more audible sound - that of footsteps on stairs - can be heard, followed a few seconds later by the voice of Jacqueline Jones.

Jacqueline: 'Simon? Are you here?'

Simon calls out to his wife, in a louder than normal tone.

Simon: 'I'm in the kitchen.'

After another few seconds have passed, Jacqueline walks into view, from the right of the shot; Jacqueline is wearing a pair of pink checked trousers, and a navy blue t-shirt that has "SOON.." printed on it in white.

Jacqueline: 'There you are - I was expecting that you would be in the living room, playing that Beyond game again.'

Jacqueline pulls out the chair that is furthest away from the camera, to the right of Simon; she then sits down, and looks towards her husband.

Jacqueline: 'You've been playing that game so much that I was starting to think you had developed a crush on Ellen Page.'

Simon presses a button on the laptop, which causes the low noise to cease; he then turns his attention to Jacqueline, and smiles.

Simon: 'I'm not going to deny that I think she's pretty, but I'm what, eight years older than her? She's a bit too young for me.'

Simon leans towards Jacqueline, and reaches across with his left hand, which he places on her upper right arm.

Simon: 'Besides, I only have eyes for you, you know that.'

Jacqueline then leans towards Simon.

Jacqueline: 'I was only teasing.'

Simon's smile broadens.

Simon: 'I know, I know.'

The couple then share a kiss, after which Simon moves his left hand down, to hold Jacqueline's right hand.

Simon: 'How was your nap?'

Jacqueline: 'It was good, thanks.'

Jacqueline raises her left hand to her mouth, as she attempts to stifle a yawn.'

Jacqueline: 'And what have you been doing, while I've been sleeping?'

Simon leans back against his chair.

Simon: 'I've been watching some old episodes of Climax Control, from the archives.'

Jacqueline: 'You've been studying your three opponents then, in preparation for your match this weekend?'

Simon: 'Yes and no: I've been in the ring against each of Giani Di Luca and Nick Jones in the past - with varying degrees of success - so I already have some prior experience to draw on as far as those two are concerned; and although Kain and I have never been opponents previously, from what I've seen of him over the past five months or so, during my time in SCW, I've gotten a glimpse of the threat that he will pose on Sunday night. Still, it doesn't hurt to spend as much time as you can studying your opponents.'

Simon quickly glances towards the laptop, before looking back at Jacqueline.

Simon: 'But not only have I been watching old episodes of Climax Control to be better prepared for my opponents, amongst the episodes that I've taken a look at, I've paid particular attention to the two previous Halloween-themed episodes, so that I could try to get some sort of idea of what type of match I could possibly find myself being forced to compete in - and it's been a real eye opener.'

Jacqueline: 'Did any of the match types crop up more than once?'

Simon: 'I think I counted ten different match types in total, but there were a few recurring ones, such as the graveyard match, and the haunted house match.'

Jacqueline: 'Ooh, what do those two matches involve?'

Simon: 'As the name suggests, a graveyard match is contested in a cemetery; there is a certain number of open graves located throughout the cemetery, and if you are thrown into one of the open graves, then you are eliminated from the match. As for a haunted house match, again the name should provide you with an indication as to the setting of the match; hidden somewhere within the house is a briefcase, or a similar object - depending on what is at stake in the match - and whoever finds the object, and escapes the house first, is the winner.'

Simon leans towards Jacqueline again.

Simon: 'Also, there's been a match in each of the past two years that, whilst not having the same name both times, has involved switching off the lights and having the wrestlers compete in glow in the dark attire. And last year there were two matches that featured pumpkins in some form. So, I've gotten something to think about, in terms of what could lie in store for me on Sunday in Vegas, but it would still be difficult to accurately predict what type of match I'll have to participate in - it's definitely far from an exact science.'

Jacqueline: 'Of the matches that you witnessed, was there any type that would be to your liking?'

Simon: 'I suppose a trick or treat match wouldn't be so bad.'

Jacqueline opens her mouth, as though she is about to speak, but Simon stops her.

Simon: 'Before you ask, scattered around the outside of the ring are various boxes, inside of which are items - tricks or treats - that can be used as weapons; a match like that would be satisfactory - of what I saw, that was probably the nearest thing to resemble a normal match. Because ideally, that's what I'd want the match to be: a basic, normal match, in which I could set about the task of trying to become the number one contender for the heavyweight title, unencumbered by any zany stipulations.'

Jacqueline smiles.

Jacqueline: 'You really don't like Halloween, do you?'

Simon: 'You know me, Jacqui.'

With his left hand, Simon lifts Jacqueline's right hand to his mouth; he then kisses the back of her hand.

Simon: 'To quote from Scrubs, I wouldn't go as far as Doctor Cox and say "I hate Halloween," but I do agree with Doctor Kelso's assertion that Halloween is "the mother of all non-holidays."'

Jacqueline: 'Last year, didn't Jason delay your debut in ACW, so that you avoided participating in a Halloween-themed match?'

Simon nods his head.

Simon: 'That's right - when JJ Dixon approached Jason last October about having me join ACW, his plan was that I would debut in the Halloween battle royal. However, knowing how I feel not only about Halloween, but also about wearing fancy dress, Jason waited until after that match to inform me of the contact that he'd had with Dixon, and so I made my debut in ACW in November instead.'

Simon leans back slightly.

Simon: 'But this match on Sunday is different though - this match is about me working my way back towards the SCW Heavyweight Championship, a title that I am oh so keen to regain. So if I need to climb a spider's web to win the match, or do something else along those lines, then so be it - I'll see what kind of match is thrust upon me, grin and bear it, and then do whatever is necessary to overcome Giani Di Luca, Kain and Nick Jones, on my way to becoming the number one contender for the title.'

Simon lowers his head, looking away from Jacqueline, and towards the floor. A few seconds later, Simon looks back up at his wife, and smiles; Jacqueline frowns.

Jacqueline: 'What are you smiling about?'

Simon: 'Do you remember back in March - prior to my match that month in ACW against Magni - that I mentioned that Magni was not the first Estonian wrestler I'd encountered in my career? And that Magni was gutted to discover that he was not unique in being a wrestler from Estonia?'

Jacqueline has a nonplussed expression on her face.

Jacqueline: 'Vaguely.'

Simon: 'Well, if Magni had watched Climax Control at the end of October two years ago, he would have seen a fellow Estonian - a bloke by the name of Mad Man Madis - competing inside the six-sided ring of SCW; I just hope that, come Sunday, I'll be more successful in my match against Giani Di Luca, Kain and Nick Jones, than Madis was in his hangman's mask match against his opponent that night, D.J. "D-Block" Williams.'

Jacqueline smiles again.

Jacqueline: 'I'm sure that you'll be fine.'

Simon sighs.

Simon: 'I hope so, because I want to be the SCW Heavyweight Champion again - and if that's going to happen sooner rather than later, I simply have to win on Sunday night.'

Simon and Jacqueline lean towards one another again for another kiss; as the pair kiss, the scene fades to black.

The scene opens to show Simon Jones, staring at the camera, whilst stood in front of a stone wall. Simon is wearing a pair of black trainers, pale blue jeans, and a black coat that is unzipped to revealed a white t-shirt; printed on the t-shirt is an image of a skull that has a pair of scissors impaled through the cranium, with spots of red giving the appearance of blood dripping from the skull. In his left hand, Simon is holding a bottle of water.

Simon raises his right hand to cover his mouth as he coughs; he then puts his arm back down by his side, and begins to speak.

Simon: 'This coming Sunday, at the special Halloween-themed edition of Climax Control, I'll be competing against three other men - Giani Di Luca, Kain and Nick Jones - as I aim to become the number one contender to the title currently held by Drake Green: the SCW Heavyweight Championship. Now, this weekend's Climax Control will be staged at Blood Village - a haunted house in Las Vegas - and so, in keeping with that spirit, I've come to Citadel Hill here in Halifax, Nova Scotia, which is supposedly haunted by the spectres of Canadian, British and French soldiers, and their family members.'

Simon rubs the back of his right hand against his t-shirt.

Simon: 'And in a departure from the sports jerseys or generic t-shirts that I would usually be seen wearing, I've opted to wear the sole item of clothing I own that could be deemed to be suitable for Halloween. But enough about that, let's get down to business - let's discuss the three men that will be my opponents this weekend; I'll start with Giani Di Luca.'

Simon rubs his chin with his right hand.

Simon: 'This Saturday, the day before Climax Control, will mark five months since I made my debut in SCW. And, like the match that I will be participating in on Sunday, my debut match was also put together for the purpose of determining a new number one contender for the SCW Heavyweight Championship. On that night, I didn't clash with merely three opponents, there were ten other men vying with me to earn the right to challenge Jordan Williams for the title - one of those was Giani Di Luca.'

Simon then places his right hand on his hip.

Simon: 'For those that need reminding, that match back in May was a gauntlet battle royal. Of the eleven competitors in the match, I was the first to enter, whereas Di Luca was the penultimate man to enter the ring; he and I would go on to be the final two men remaining in the match, and following quite a tussle, I was the one that emerged victorious. Now, a few things have happened since then as far as the two of us are concerned, most notably Di Luca having a reign as one half of the tag team champions for several months, and me holding the top prize in SCW for a period of eight weeks, but come Sunday, when I'm stood in the ring with Giani Di Luca for a second time, I'm confident that I'll be able to get the better of him again, just like the first time that we were opponents.'

Simon takes his right hand away from his hip, to unscrew the cap on the bottle of water, from which he then takes a drink.

Simon: 'You see, five months ago, as the tenth man to enter the battle royal, Giani Di Luca had a substantial advantage over me - by the time he entered the match, I'd already been in the ring for eight minutes, and had battled eight other opponents; if he couldn't defeat me previously, when he had a substantial advantage over me, how is he going to be able to beat me on Sunday, when there'll be a level playing field? I could pose a similar question to Kain and Nick Jones, too: I've already shown that I'm capable of overcoming any obstacle that is thrown at me, to go on to become the number one contender for the SCW Heavyweight Championship, so what makes either of you two different? What makes you think that you can succeed where Di Luca and nine others failed, when I was at a disadvantage? This Sunday, I won't be at a disadvantage, and I plan on having the outcome of the match be the same as the outcome of that battle royal.'

Simon takes another drink of water; he then screws the cap back on the bottle back, and continues to talk.

Simon: 'Right, let's move on to Kain.'

Simon glances around at his surroundings, before looking back at the camera.

Simon: 'A week and a half ago, in what was one of the most prominently featured matches at High Stakes III, Kain defeated Goth, to seemingly be crowned the undisputed King Of Kings - at least, he is in the world that he and Goth inhabit. Here though, in the world that I live in, I couldn't care less about a fictitious title that Goth and Kain each tried to award to themselves; I've said it before, but it bears repeating: there's only one title that matters, and that's the SCW heavyweight title. Under a different set of circumstances - had Goth not lost to Kevin Carter two weeks prior to High Stakes - Kain may very well already be in possession of the heavyweight title. Instead though, if he wishes to become the Heavyweight Champion, Kain is going to have to overcome myself and our two opponents - but I don't intend to let that happen.'

Simon unscrews the cap on the bottle of water again, to take another drink.

Simon: 'Let me ask you something Kain: you being the "King Of Kings," do you think that makes you better than me? Do you think because you have a nickname and I don't, that you're better than me? What about Giani Di Luca, who has two nicknames - does that make him better than you? Jordan Williams refers to himself as "the God of Professional Wrestling," but did that do him any good when he fought me at Into The Void II? The answer is, of course, that no, it did not, as I walked away from that match as the new SCW Heavyweight Champion. And a god has to be greater than a king, surely, so if I can defeat the God of Professional Wrestling, then I must be capable of defeating the King Of Kings, right?'

Simon shrugs his shoulders.

Simon: 'I know this is all a bit silly really, attempting to apply logic to nicknames, but then, it is no sillier than some of the nicknames that people choose to give themselves; Kain, unlike you and Gian Di Luca, I don't have a nickname, but if you want to refer to me as anything, then how about this: future two-time SCW Heavyweight Champion - I think that has a good ring to it, and it'll sound even better once the "future" part of it becomes redundant. And staying on the subject of Into The Void II, something else has occurred to me about you Kain: in the build-up to that event, I remember hearing you say that, sooner or later, you would be challenging Jordan Williams for the SCW Heavyweight Championship - effectively dismissing me as a challenger for the title. Now, perhaps you simply underestimated me - something that Jordan Williams was probably also guilty of - and I doubt that you will be so stupid as to make the same mistake twice, but I give you this warning: if you do underestimate again, then it will be to your downfall - just as it was to the downfall of Jordan Williams, four months ago. But, regardless of how you approach myself and this match, I aim to add your name to the list of opponents that I have defeated in SCW - and I'll be doing everything I can to ensure that happens.'

Simon has a drink of water once more, before screwing the cap of the bottle back on.

Simon: 'So, that leaves me with one opponent left to talk about: my namesake, Nick Jones.'

Simon sits down on the ground, crossing his legs.

Simon: 'As well as having the same surname, Nick and I also have in common that we are both former SCW Heavyweight Champions - but that is where the similarities end. And I seem to have a higher opinion of him than he has of me - in the past, in reference to an incident that took place at the beginning of June, I have called Nick the uncrowned world heavyweight champion, a claim that I believe is justified. But as anyone who knows anything about Nick will be aware, he isn't so forthcoming when it comes to praising other people - whilst I've shown him the respect that I think he deserves, he prefers to call me a nobody.'

Simon places the bottle of water on the ground, to the side of him.

Simon: 'You know, it was not so long ago that I would've actually agreed with Nick on that statement - earlier this year, in April, I'm sure I even uttered the words, "I'm not a somebody, I'm a nobody," and, "I'm not a has-been, I'm a never-was." Since then though, I've not done too badly: I won the world cruiserweight title, before vacating it, and I then went on to an even greater accomplishment, when I won the SCW heavyweight title. So, my self-esteem is now somewhat higher than it was six or so months ago, but if Nick Jones want to think of me as still being a nobody, then fine, let him do so - I've already warned Kain about the perils of underestimating me. And while it would be nice to be liked by everyone, other people's opinions about me don't bother me that much - except for those of the people that I care about; I don't need to surround myself with a bunch of sycophants that tell me how wonderful I am - I just need the people close to me, who have been there throughout my wrestling career, and have helped me to achieve the success I've had.'

Simon looks down at the ground momentarily, before looking back to the camera, and continuing.

Simon: 'Nick, you might think that I was lucky merely to get a shot at the title, never mind what then happened when I took the title away from your friend, Jordan Williams, but on Sunday I'll show you, and anyone else who doubts what I'm capable of, that luck has had nothing to do with the success that I've had in SCW and elsewhere - everything that I've achieved in my career, I've earned. And Nick, you'll get to witness that at first hand, as the former world cruiserweight champion overcomes the uncrowned world heavyweight champion, to earn another shot at the SCW heavyweight title.'

Simon rises from the ground, standing up again.

Simon: 'Earlier this week, Drake Green tweeted that the belt he now holds "deserves a good challenger." Well, Drake was spot on -  and I have every intention of being that challenger. Although, for that to happen, I am admittedly going to have to improve upon my recent form, as it may surprise some people to learn that I haven't won a singles match in SCW since I defeated Jordan Williams back in June, when I became the Heavyweight Champion - and I haven't won a singles match anywhere since I beat Steve Ramone the following week, in ACW. Now, that doesn't quite tell the whole story, as most of the matches that I've been involved in since then have been tag team matches - and I was on the winning side in the majority of those matches - but it's still a statistic that might make some people think I shouldn't be in a match designed to determine the number one contender for the SCW Heavyweight Championship. But do you know what I think? I think it's time for me to put that statistic to bed - I think it's time for me to get back to winning ways in singles action, to remind everyone of why I have been the SCW Heavyweight Champion in the past, and to show that I can be the champion again. And come this Sunday, that is exactly what I plan to do; see you all at Blood Village.'

As Simon stares at the camera, the scene fades to black.
