Supercard Archives / Re: LAURA PHOENIX v HARPER MASON
« on: October 20, 2023, 04:12:01 PM »
This is going to be such a veteran thing to say; but back when I began my professional career, things were a whole lot different.

Let’s go back to 2005.

I was just around 23 years old, and my teacher and mentor Kurt Collins, also known as Kurt Kaoss had given me a phone call and asked if I could possibly do him a favor. At the time, I was strictly working the independents for the last few years and had awaited just a sniff of a chance. The top pro-levels at that time had next to nothing for women. It was practically unheard of at that time for women to face men in the ring, let alone even have their own division for some unknown reason at that point.

So when I was brought it, I became the first woman amongst a locker room full of dicks, both literally and figuratively, that until that point only had women there as eye candy.

I was quickly dismissed by the “good old boys” club and there was even one vet that went as far as to try and get me fired for just existing. But I kept pressing and pushing and eventually all the chirping stopped and the praise began.

Of course there will always be people out there that don’t like how you look, what you do or even how you do it, but you have to be stronger mentally than those naysayers. If you let the ones that try and push you out control your narrative, you are going to have that happen to matter what you do.

In the matter of one year, I had been the first woman to capture their X-Division Champion, MULTIPLE times, been in serious contention for the top title, attacked by my stablemates which included the very man that brought me in AND with that he almost killed me.

With that coming back, shoving the whole damn thing down their throats, becoming the World Champion and not once did I look back and say to myself “Maybe I went just a little too far”.

I went full throttle and it continued that way until my life took something amazingly special away from me.

Between all my accolades in PWSWF, PWSR and PWSi, the moment I lost my mother to cancer, nothing else mattered. Not anymore.

You see, my mom and I had quite the turbulent relationship in my late teens. But before that we were as close as we could get. She would push me to be my absolute best but when I became pregnant with Bella, my family, moreso my father did everything in his power to try and not only hide it but convince me to give her away. Mom was stuck in the middle, but she did try through the years to keep her and her kids together in some way.

Michael, my older brother, took off to Japan for a while.

My younger sister, Jennifer, took her place as dad’s princess, doing anything that dad asked to make sure she stayed the favorite and in turn she turned into a spoiled ass priss that lingers to this day. Even though she’s now a single mom of two beautiful girls.

And my youngest sister, Cameron kept her nose down, made it through school and when she was old enough, told dad to take his bullshit and shove it.

Mom was the one that brought the family back together again and when Bella was found (That’s a whole other story that I really chose not to rehash), she tied it all together and made sure it stayed that way.

When we lost her, the passion that she instilled in me when it came to anything that I ever did went away. I just focused on Bella and Nick. It still kills me to this day that she never got to meet Aaron but I see a lot of her in that little boy.

I lost my passion for a long time.

So when I agreed to come be a part of SCW’s Blast From the Past, to say I found my passion again was an understatement. I walked in with a whole lot of respect already given, nothing to prove and just there because I missed the ring. I missed competing like I did.

Yeah, since then to now, the game has changed. Women are far more prevalent and can carry main events.

I’m proud of every single one of them for taking the path that I helped paved.

All I can do now is hope that the legacy lives on.

I can’t say ‘Don’t let that spark die’ because it did for me. And I can feel it happening again.

So is this going to be my final bow?

The Masquerade is Getting Older

It was a somewhat wild day in the Madison household. Due to having to be out of town, Laura decided to make up a late birthday celebration for not only her baby sister Cameron’s 34th birthday, but for Zion, her 2 year old nephew and son to Cameron and Jesse Russow.

Every time the Madison’s and the Russow’s got together, it was never boring but after children being born it had teetered on the less wild and the more grown up fashion. Aaron and Zion had taken to the typical cousin playdate and had toys scattered all across the living room while their mothers looked on with pride.

“So when did Mike say he’d be here?” Cameron asked as she watched Aaron show Zion how to press down on a button that would make the toy they were sharing play some annoying high pitched tune.

Laura smirked, opening up her phone, “Quote unquote soon. We know how he can be but he swore he would be here.”

“Which means there’s a 50-50 chance! Too bad we can’t say the same about Jenn.” Cameron grumbled.

That just brought a wave of the hand by the eldest O’Neil daughter, “I have all but given up hope and besides you know how she is since her divorce. She barely takes care of those girls. Thank God for dad and his girlfriend.”

“HEY HEY!!” they heard a voice call out from entryway to the house, “Can a big brother get some help out here?!?”

Cameron and Laura looked around the corner to see their big brother Michael standing there with a bag of presents over his shoulder with one arm and a car seat with the other, holding his 9 month old son, Gabriel Aki. Behind him his wife, Akari with another present on one side and their 6 year old daughter, Emi Grace. She was born shortly after her grandmother had passed and had the honor of carrying on that legacy.

“It’s about time!!!” Cameron let out, hugging her brother while taking her nephew from him. “Well hello there Gabriel, you have gotten so big!”

“Aunt Cam! I got big too!!!!” Emi let out, holding her arms out wide, as Laura scooped her up.

“That you did, Emi!” Laura tickled her a bit, “Are you enjoying your new school?”

“Yeah, it’s a little weird but I already made a new friend.” Emi said giving her aunt a hug, “Where’s Aaron and Zion?”

“They are in the living room playing. Why don’t you go join them?” Cameron said, shuffling off with Gabriel and leaving the hostess to welcome the adults into the house.

“Come on in you two! Akari, it's great to see you again.”

“Thanks for the invitation. It’s been so long since we’ve all gotten together like this.” Akari said with a smile and hug for Laura, “Especially since we had to move back to the states.”

“Which, please tell me the rest of your guys stuff showed up.” Laura asked with curiosity.

Michael laughed as he dropped the bag by the entryway to the living room, making sure that his daughter made it in and immediately began playing with her cousins, “Yes, thank God. Dad was a huge help with that believe it or not, got the company on the phone one day and the next the truck was outside the house and unloading in record time. Can’t say that money and power can’t fix everything.”

“Most of the time. Everyone else is in the kitchen. Bella was just finishing feeding Máire, if you’d like to meet your new great-niece.” Laura said pointing in the general direction.

“Oh yes!” Akira said with a smile, “Pictures that we got sent seemingly don’t do it justice, I need to see those beautiful blue eyes.”

“Mike knows the way.”

Michael and Akira had been together for a number of years, from the time he first went to Japan to the time he went back for her. They got married quietly, started their family quietly but stayed close to Laura and Cameron. They returned to the states just this summer for Mike to finally take his place in their dad’s company just so the old man could finally retire for good. After losing his wife almost 7 years ago, he deserved it.

And they all had to grow up sometime.

Laura traveled the house and looked longingly at each moment.

When she started, she was practically on her own.

Her peace was made with her dad. Michael was home. Cameron was happy. Nick was by her side and all the kids. It was everything she had dreamed of.

Nick retired.

Cameron too.

Michael hadn’t even touched a ring in almost 10 years.

So why was she the last one?

Stepping out onto the deck, she found herself needing air.

“Babe?” she heard Nick call from the kitchen sliding door, “Everyone is here, maybe we should...get the..Laur?”

She was gripping the rail of the deck so hard her knuckles were turning white, she was having issues catching her breath. Basically in the midst of a full on panic attack. Nick immediately recognizes this and wraps his arms around her and pulls her as tight as he can against him.

“Shhh, hey...come back to me.” he said low, as to not attract any more attention, “Breathe, babe. Talk to me.”

“Can I really do this? Just walk away from the one thing that gave me this life, brought me to you?” Laura says, between breaths, “Can I just call it and never think about it again?”

“You don’t need to call it if you don’t want to.”

“But I do. I don’t mind being a mentor to everyone but it is obvious that I no longer belong in the ring like the rest.” Laura says pulling back and wiping her eyes, “Besides, it was agreed. Once Bella was ready....”

“But that doesn’t mean that you have to walk away if you don’t want to, Laur. At least all together, if you don’t want to.” Nick looks back at the house and notices Bella watching them with a smile, while feeding Máire for a moment before leaving them be, “I know you’re gonna wanna continue on in some form and I’m not about to tell you no. We’ve been together long enough to know better.”

Laura laughs and kisses her husband, all these years and they love each other just as much if not more than the day they both stubbornly realized it.

“Let me get through this match and then we’ll go from there.”

“Fair enough. Come on, let’s get some cake. Cake always makes you feel better.”

“That it does.”

Rookie mistakes are simple to point out but we all know Harper is not an idiot. Putting a feather in her cap for a veteran that holds multiple Hall of Fames, world titles and so on would be a spectacular moment for her.

But alas for her, I am not one to just accept that this is it and I should just go out with the passing of the torch to her.

I passed that torch a while ago on two separate occasions.

Bella and Kayla

I have absolutely zero interest in splitting it up like horcruxes so let’s move on, shall we?

As far as I am concerned, following High Stakes, that is it for me inside any ring. 4 sided to 6 sided and otherwise. I have given everything that I had and the last thing I got is my sanity and I will be absolutely damned if I give that away willingly. I almost lost it once a long time ago and I will never have that happen again.

So let’s go from there to this, Harper you are about to find yourself under the learning tree on the biggest show of the year with a woman that could easily write the book about overcoming impossible odds. Top rookie or not, your journey, Harper...it’s just beginning. There is nothing left for me to prove but to just go out and show you that you haven’t even begun to learn.

That’s my job and then I’ll bow out gracefully.

And this chapter is done.

But Harper, be ever so careful. For if you underestimate me, you are going to pay for it and kid...it’s nothing personal.

It’s just how I do business.

In the soft glow of the living room, Laura Phoenix sat on the couch, a gentle smile playing on her lips as she watched her granddaughter, Máire, sleep peacefully in her crib. The room was bathed in a warm, amber light, the flickering of a nearby candle casting a tranquil ambiance. Beside her, Nick, her husband, sat with an arm draped over her shoulders, his eyes reflecting the same contentment as hers.

Across the room, Aaron, their young son, was sprawled on the floor, his toys scattered around him. He was deeply engrossed in building a colorful tower with his building blocks, his small face scrunched up in concentration. The occasional laughter and excited chatter filled the room, creating a symphony of familial warmth.

It was a rare night. Bella and Mal, Máire's parents, had decided to take a well-deserved break, enjoying a night out together. The responsibility of watching over the little one had fallen to Laura and Nick, a task they embraced with open hearts.

As they sat together, a sense of serenity settled over the room, the knowledge that they were all connected by something deeper than blood—a bond of love and shared experiences. Laura's gaze shifted from Máire to Aaron, her heart swelling with pride. In these moments, surrounded by her family, she found a profound sense of fulfillment.

"You know," Nick said, his voice a soft murmur, "We're truly blessed, aren't we? Look at them, babe. Our children, our grandchild... all of them are happy and healthy."

Laura nodded, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. "We are, babe. Sometimes, it feels surreal, doesn't it? To think of the journey we've been on, the challenges we've faced together."

He squeezed her shoulder gently. "Life's been kind to us, but it's also been our shared strength that carried us through the storms."

At that moment, Aaron looked up, his eyes curious. "Mommy, Daddy, do you think I'll be as strong as you guys one day?"

Laura's heart melted at her son's innocence. She reached out, pulling him into a warm embrace. "Aaron, you're already strong. You have a heart of gold, and that's the strongest thing anyone can possess."

Nick ruffled Aaron's hair playfully. "And don't forget, you've got us by your side, supporting you every step of the way."

They settled back into their positions, the room filled with a comfortable silence, broken only by the soft sounds of Máire's peaceful slumber. In this moment, surrounded by love and the quiet assurance of family, Laura felt a profound sense of gratitude.

"Yes," she whispered, more to herself than anyone else, "We are blessed. And we'll keep being here for each other, no matter what life throws our way."

Hey, mommy?” Aaron asks, breaking Laura from her solace.

Wassup bud?

Are- Are you going to retire like daddy again? I know you’re not gone a lot but with Bella having Máire...” Aaron looked almost embarrassed to even ask.

Aw, sweetie, I know. Sometimes mommy gets these wild ideas and suddenly I get lost in it. I do miss spending a lot of time with you guys but at the end of the day, I just need to keep going until I can’t anymore.” she pulls her son up onto her lap, “But, I do know that day is gonna come soon and then before you know it, you’ll be begging for your mom to go back to work.

She tickles him a little bit to bring a laugh to her son’s face, “Maaaaaa, stop!

Nick laughs, “Not so loud, you two or you’ll wake up Máire.

I’m sorry, I just couldn’t resist,” she said, giving her son a kiss on the head, “But I promise you both, when it’s time I’ll make sure to let you both know. Okay?

A Legacy of Respect

In the quiet solitude of her home, Laura Phoenix sat surrounded by memorabilia from her storied wrestling career. The room was filled with framed photographs capturing moments frozen in time—victories, defeats, and the unbreakable spirit of a woman who had dedicated her life to the ring.

As she traced her fingers over a picture of herself and Alexandra Calaway, a soft smile played on her lips. "Ally," she murmured, the weight of the years they'd shared together evident in her voice. "What a journey it's been."

The respect between them was more than just professional courtesy; it was a deep understanding forged through countless battles. Laura's eyes sparkled with a mix of nostalgia and admiration as she remembered the first time they'd faced off, the electric energy in the air as their skills collided in a symphony of athleticism and strategy.

"Ally is more than another opponent; she's a kindred spirit," Laura said, her voice carrying the weight of decades of camaraderie. "In this business, where alliances can be fragile and rivalries bitter, Ally and I found something rare—a mutual respect that transcends the spotlight. We've seen each other at our best and our worst, and through it all, that respect has endured."

She picked up another photograph, this one capturing them both mid-match, sweat-slicked faces determined even in the heat of battle. "There's an unspoken bond between veterans," she continued, her tone reflective. "A shared history of triumphs and tribulations. When I step into the ring with Ally, I know I'm facing not just a competitor, but a woman who understands the sacrifices, the victories, and the sheer love for this sport."

Laura's gaze shifted to the window, where the last light of the evening cast a warm glow on the room. "Our legacy is not just in the championships we've won or the battles we've fought," she said, her voice steady with conviction. "It's in the respect we've shown each other, the way we've elevated women's wrestling together."

"We've both treaded the tumultuous waters of this industry for over two decades. Yet, the spotlight keeps painting you as the fresh face, the newcomer, while I'm hailed as the seasoned veteran. It's a narrative I want to rewrite, not just for me, but for you, Ally."

Laura stood, her eyes ablaze with determination. "You've earned every accolade, every cheer from the crowd, and every bit of respect that comes your way. But it irks me, Ally, because they don't see the battles you've fought, the nights you've spent honing your craft, and the countless sacrifices you've made."

With a resolute breath, Laura continued, her voice gaining strength. "So, when we step into that ring, it won't just be a clash of bodies and skills. It'll be a declaration—a testament to the fact that you, Ally, are not just a rising star. You are a radiant sun in your own right, shining brightly alongside me and every other veteran in this business."

"When we're in there, Ally, it won't be about proving ourselves. It'll be about cementing our rightful places, side by side, in the annals of wrestling history. The respect we share outside the ring will echo within it, drowning out any misconceptions about who we are and what we've achieved."

August 12th

It had been several hours since Bella’s water had broken. In fact, she had left Nick home with Aaron several hours before that after she got a call from her oldest.

Bella had only been a few days away from her actual due date, but if you ever talk to any woman who has ever given birth, those damn kids will show up when they want.

Bella’s water broke in the wee hours of the morning when instead of waking her or Mal from their sleep to get her a simple glass of water and in turn, turned the entire place into bedlam. There was no doubt before that Bella was indeed in labor when she had all kinds of issues even being comfortable but now, Mal was rushing around to grab shoes for them both while Bella partially freaked out about the mess that was now on the kitchen floor.

Thank the heavens that she was there, she assured them both that not only would she clean up the mess but take care of Luka and Salem and would meet them at the hospital as soon as she possibly could.

Thankfully by the early afternoon Malachi’s sister, Alanah had come to relieve her of animal duty and shooed her off to the hospital.

There, Laura had been waiting for this moment for what felt like an eternity. The floor was filled with the soft glow of lights that had made the entire floor welcoming and calming, and the air was filled with the scent of fresh flowers, a testament to the new life that had just entered the world. She stood outside the hospital room door, her heart fluttering with a mix of excitement and nervousness.

Bella had given birth to her beautiful baby girl, Máire, just a short while ago. Laura had given her daughter and son-in-law some space to bond with their newborn, but now, she couldn't wait any longer. She had to meet her granddaughter.

Taking a deep breath, she gently pushed open the door and stepped into the room. The sight that greeted her was nothing short of magical. Bella, looking tired but radiant, was cradling the tiny bundle in her arms. Máire, with her tiny fists and button nose, was a perfect blend of her parents.

Bella looked up and smiled as Laura entered, her eyes reflecting a deep sense of contentment. "Mom, come meet your granddaughter."

Laura's heart swelled with emotion as she walked closer to the bedside. She reached out, her hands trembling slightly, and Bella carefully placed Máire into her arms. The moment their eyes met was pure magic.

Máire's little blue eyes blinked open, and she gazed up at her grandmother with a sense of wonder that only infants possess. Laura's heart melted at the sight of this precious life that was now a part of their family.

Just then, the door opened once again, and Nick walked in, his face filled with a mixture of pride and joy. "I couldn't wait any longer," he said, his voice filled with love. "I had to see my granddaughter."

Laura looked up at Nick, her eyes shining with happiness. "Nick, meet Máire," she said, her voice filled with tenderness. "Our beautiful granddaughter."

Nick walked over and stood beside Laura, gazing down at Máire with awe. "She's perfect," he whispered.

Máire let out a soft, cooing sound in response, capturing her grandfather's heart in an instant. Laura gently rocked their granddaughter in her arms, and Nick reached out to touch her tiny fingers.

"Hey there, Máire," Laura whispered, her voice filled with tenderness. "You've already brought so much love into our lives. Your mom and dad are going to be amazing parents, and we're going to be the best grandparents you could ever ask for."

Bella watched her parents with a soft, knowing smile. She could see the love and wonder in their eyes, and it filled her with happiness to know that her daughter was already surrounded by so much love.

Laura continued to hold Máire, her gaze fixed on the tiny, perfect face in her arms. "You know, Máire, you've already brought so much light into our lives. Your mom and dad are going to be amazing parents, and your grandparents are going to spoil you rotten."

Bella chuckled, a hint of tears in her eyes. "I have no doubt about that. I can’t wait until you bring Aaron by for him to meet his new baby niece."

Oh you should have heard him earlier. I caught him practicing in a mirror, holding one of his stuffed bears like a baby and saying, ‘Meet my niece, Máire.’. If I had remembered my phone I would have got him on video.” Nick said as he placed a gentle kiss on his daughter’s head, “You feeling alright, kid?

Bella smiled as she looked over towards her mother, wondering if she would ever let her granddaughter go, “Exhausted but yeah.

Just then a knock came to the door and a nurse popped her head in, “Hey, sorry to disturb you all and I know you have all been waiting so long but visiting hours were over a while ago.”

Laura whimpered a bit, “But- We just-

Nick held up his hand and smiled gently at the nurse, “Thanks for letting us know, I’ll peel the little one out her grandmother’s arms and we’ll be out of here soon.

The nurse smiled knowingly as Nick carefully took Máire from Laura’s arms and placed a gentle peck on her head before gently placing her into Bella’s arms. Laura looked like she was about to burst into tears for a moment before she gave Bella a quick hug, “Don’t worry mom, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to hold her again tomorrow and the day after that and the day after that.

I know, just...” Laura swallowed something like a sob that almost escaped and looked at them both, “I’m proud of you and I love you.

I love you too. Both of you. I’ll see you tomorrow?

Absolutely.” Nick said as he wrapped his arm around Laura’s shoulders and began to usher them out of the room to leave Bella, Máire and Mal to themselves for the night. Laura knew that she was in great hands but her baby just had a baby of her own.

Once Nick got her into the elevator it was there that her tears finally fell and Nick hugged her tightly as they descended the floors.

In the back of her mind, Laura remembered how she used to dream that she would have had that kind of moment with her own mom when Bella was born. But she didn’t. She didn’t even have that when Aaron was born either because by then her own mother had lost her battle to cancer just 2 years prior.

The emotional wave had hit so suddenly that it wrecked her very being and Nick knew that.

I know, babe.” he simply said as his wife’s tears stained the shirt he wore as she held on to him for dear life, “I know.

Sept 6th, little over 3 weeks later.

As she approached the front door, she couldn't help but reflect on the whirlwind of emotions that had come with Máire's birth. The joy, the tears, the sleepless nights—all of it was part of the beautiful chaos of welcoming a new life into the world.

She rang the doorbell and waited, the flowers in her hand trembling ever so slightly. It wasn't long before the door opened, and Mal greeted her with a warm smile. "Hey, Laura, come on in."

Laura stepped inside, her heart swelling as she caught a glimpse of Máire in Mal's arms, nestled in a soft baby blanket. The sight of her tiny granddaughter filled her with a profound sense of love and happiness.

Mal led her into the living room, where Bella was sitting on the couch, her eyes heavy with exhaustion but a bright smile on her face. "Mom, you made it."

Laura moved closer, her eyes fixed on the precious bundle in Bella's arms. "Of course, I wouldn't miss this for the world." She leaned down and placed a gentle kiss on Bella's forehead before turning her attention to Máire and Mal. “Okay, daddy, I know that little girl has you wrapped around that tiny pinky finger, but you better pass her over to her grandma.

Mal just rolled his eyes as the baby stirred, her blue eyes blinking open as if sensing her grandmother's presence. Laura's heart skipped a beat as she carefully reached out and gently cradled Máire in her arms. The baby let out a soft, contented sigh, and Laura's heart melted.

"She's grown so much in just a few short weeks," Laura whispered, her voice filled with wonder as she gazed down at Máire's tiny face.

Bella nodded, her eyes filled with pride and affection. "Yeah, she's a little bundle of energy, that's for sure."

Mal joined them, his arm wrapping around Bella's shoulders as they watched Laura with their daughter. "We can't thank you enough for all your help, Laur. Having you here during these first weeks has been a lifesaver. Between you and my mum and Alanah, we’ve been able to keep things calm. Even with Luka and Salem being genuinely curious about her."

Laura smiled warmly, feeling a deep sense of happiness and fulfillment. "Hey, it’s what we grandmother’s do best. Besides, it's been my pleasure, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Máire is a blessing, and being a part of her life is a gift I treasure."

Laura marveled at how seamlessly Bella and Mal had embraced their roles as parents, their love for Máire shining through in every moment. Bella’s ability to be organized and Mal’s ability to make sure that just in case something was off, he would be there for what she would need.

You two have this down to a science, from the looks of it.” Laura said later in the evening, helping clean up from just a small dinner, “Makes me feel better getting back into things this weekend.

You both need to stop freaking out about this! Mal is having fits of his own,” Bella nodded over as he was carefully placing Máire down in the bassinet that they had out in the living room.

That caused Mal to stand up straight and glare in her general direction before walking over to them both, “Hey, I have every right to be cautious about leaving my girls behind.

And it’s not like Aunties Mattie and Alanah won’t be here.” Bella said, trying to keep her voice down, to not wake her daughter. She sighs as she sits back “I’m feeling great, in fact I’m even wearing my pre-pregnancy jeans again. I’d workout if I didn’t think you two wouldn’t have a complete meltdown. I had a baby, not major surgery and I’d thank ya both to remember that.

Laura sits forward and looks at Bella, “Hey, sorry kid. You can’t help but for us to worry about you just a bit. We don’t want you to rush it and end up having something bad happen. Enjoy this time and let us worry just a little bit. You just spent 40 weeks growing a whole human and bringing her into the world.

She is right, love.

I know! It’s like when I’m sick, though and you know how much fun I am when that happens.” Bella pouts, “But I do appreciate you both and everyone making sure we’re both ok.

Laura reaches out and takes her daughter’s hand, “You are welcome. I wish I had had this with my own mother, especially with you. Or any of this.

But you did with Aaron, mom. And I know all of this is dragging up all these horrible memories but at the end of it all, you and gram were able to heal and she did everything she could to make up for what happened. None of it was her fault or your fault and even though grandpa was guilty as absolute sin, we forgave him too.

Laura takes a big breath out that she didn’t even know she was holding and nods, “Yeah, we did. Still doesn’t mean I can’t be just a tad upset that I missed all this with you. If I get overbearing again, tell me?

Deal.

Antica-

The sun dipped below the Los Angeles skyline, casting long shadows across the bustling city. Laura Phoenix stood on the rooftop of her hotel, a cool breeze rustling her hair as she gazed out at the sprawling urban landscape. In just a few days, she would step into the SCW ring for a match that carried immense significance.

Below her, the city's lights began to twinkle, creating a tapestry of brilliance that seemed to stretch on forever. It was a stark contrast to the bright lights of the wrestling world, yet there was a connection between the two. Both were arenas where dreams were pursued, where legends were made, and where the human spirit persevered.

"On Sunday, I step into that ring not just as Laura Phoenix, the veteran wrestler, but as someone who's carried the weight of this industry on her shoulders for years. I've faced opponents of all sizes, strengths, and styles. I've bled, sweat, and shed tears in pursuit of this passion. And tonight, I face Aleesha Jones for the SCW Bombshell Internet Championship.

It's no secret that the Internet Championship represents a new era in wrestling. It's about connecting with the fans, about embracing change, and about evolving with the times. And here I am, after a month away from the ring, presented with an opportunity that could redefine my legacy. I gotta thank the ‘Queen’ herself, Zoey Lukas, for giving me this very interesting opportunity.

Aleesha, you're one of the brightest stars in this business. You've brought a level of athleticism and innovation that has pushed the boundaries of what's possible in that ring. But tonight, I'm not just facing you as an opponent; I'm facing you as a symbol of change, as a testament to the enduring spirit of this sport.

Winning the SCW Bombshell Internet Championship isn't just about adding another title to my collection. It's about proving that age, time away, and the doubters mean nothing when you have heart, experience, and an unbreakable connection with the fans. It's about telling every young wrestler out there that no dream is too big, no challenge is too daunting.

Tonight, I carry the hopes and dreams of all those who've supported me throughout my career. I carry the memory of every match, every sacrifice, and every moment that brought me to this point. And I carry the belief that tonight, I can make history.

Aleesha, you're a phenomenal champion, but know this: I'm not here to take your place. I'm here to share this spotlight with you, to elevate this championship, and to remind the world that in the world of professional wrestling, legends never truly retire. They evolve, they adapt, and they keep fighting.

So, let's make this match a classic, Aleesha. Let's give these fans a match they'll never forget, a match that will be talked about for years to come. And may the best woman win, but make no mistake, I'm here to win, to inspire, and to prove that the Bombshell Internet Champion is a symbol of excellence, resilience, and the undying spirit of professional wrestling. Let's do this."

The once bustling office of PWS:Apex was now eerily quiet as Laura Phoenix sat behind her desk, surrounded by boxes containing her personal belongings. The news of the promotion shutting down had hit her, just like everyone else, hard, leaving her with a mix of emotions. Uncertainty filled the air as she wondered what her next move should be.

Nick, who had been by her side throughout the majority of her wrestling career and her time as the general manager, stepped into the office, concern etched on his face. "How are you holding up, babe?"

Laura mustered a half-smile, trying to mask her disappointment. "I'll be alright, Nick. It's just... it's tough to see something you've put so much heart into come to an end."

He walked over to her and wrapped his arms around her, offering a comforting embrace. "You did a great job, Laura. Your dedication and hard work were evident in everything you did for PWS:Apex. But sometimes, change is an opportunity for something even greater."

She sighed, resting her head against his chest. "I know, but it's hard not to feel a sense of loss right now."

Nick gently lifted her chin, making her look into his eyes. "Remember, you're not defined by a single role or job. You're Laura “Phoenix” Madison, a strong and talented woman who has achieved so much in wrestling and beyond. This is just another chapter in your life, and you have the power to turn it into something amazing."

Laura nodded, feeling a glimmer of hope amidst the uncertainty. "I know, you're right. I can't let this setback hold me back. I've faced challenges in the ring, and I've always come out stronger. But...it just...I feel like I failed everyone here. You, Bella, the amount of talent that depended on me to keep this place alive. For the longest time, this was home for a lot of people that really felt like they didn’t belong or they weren’t sure where to really go. I prided myself on being a beacon  that I never had. And instead it just slipped through my hands and I couldn’t do anything about it."

“We all could have done something,” Nick said with a touch of sadness, “Sometimes though things just need to end.”

“Yeah, I guess. I gotta finish up. Bella and Mal are coming over to the house for dinner, and I’m debating between astronomical amounts of cheese or the colonel,” she said as she looked around the room.

“Knowing that girl, get both and we’ll buffet it.” Nick said with a smirk, “I’ll go grab you another box and we’ll get out of here.”

With a swift kiss he left her to continue packing the last of her belongings. As she did, she couldn't help but think about her passion for wrestling and her desire to make a positive impact on the industry, it was one of the reasons that she became a general manager after she had retired the first time.

She turned and saw a picture of her and Bella and Alanah, following the match that would give her daughter her very first singles title run with the United Title in PWS.

A few hours later...

“OH I remember this!” Bella said, pulling that very same picture out of the box that Laura brought home.

The aroma of a delicious meal filled the Madison household as Laura and Bella sat together at the dining table. Nick, ever the supportive husband, had taken a moment to pick up both the cheesy extravaganza of a good ole fashion New York style grease in a box pizza and a bucket of fried chicken, offering comfort in the form of indulgent food.

"I still can't believe it's all over," Bella said, a touch of sadness in her voice as she served herself some macaroni and cheese. "PWS:Apex was like a second home for so many of us."

Laura nodded, taking a bite of her fried chicken, her thoughts momentarily drifting back to her time as the general manager. "It was a place where dreams came true for many young talents, a platform to showcase their skills and chase their passion for wrestling."

Bella glanced at her mother, seeing the mixture of emotions on her face. "Mom, I hope you don't blame yourself for what happened. You were doing the best you could, juggling your responsibilities as a mother and a general manager."

Laura set down her fork, looking into Bella's eyes. "You know, sometimes I wonder if I made the right decision to focus on wrestling more. Maybe if I had put more effort into managing PWS:Apex, things would have turned out differently."

Bella reached out and held her mother's hand, offering a reassuring squeeze. "Mom, you can't blame yourself for everything. You were doing what you thought was best for you and your career. And let's not forget how much you've achieved in wrestling. You've inspired so many people, including me."

Laura's eyes glistened with tears, touched by her daughter's words. "Thank you, sweetie. Your support means everything to me. It's just hard not to feel like I let everyone down, especially those young talents who were counting on PWS:Apex to be their launching pad."

Bella smiled warmly, her love and understanding shining through. "You didn't let anyone down, Mom. Sometimes, things just don't work out the way we want them to. But that doesn't mean it's the end. You still have so much to offer in wrestling and beyond."

Laura took a deep breath, feeling a weight being lifted off her shoulders. "You're right. I shouldn't let this setback define me. I've faced challenges before, and I've always come out stronger. I need to take this as an opportunity to explore new paths and find new ways to make a positive impact."

Bella nodded, a sense of pride evident in her eyes. "That's the spirit, Mom! You've always been a fighter, and I know you'll overcome this too. PWS:Apex might be gone, but you still have so much to offer to the wrestling world."

Laura smiled gratefully at her daughter, feeling a renewed sense of purpose. "Thank you, Bella. Your belief in me means more than you know. And speaking of belief, you have your own match coming up, don't you?"

Bella's eyes lit up, the conversation shifting to her own wrestling career, which was put on hold for the obvious 37 weeks and counting that was soon to be Laura’s very first granddaughter, "Yes, I do! And I'm going to give it my all, just like you always have. You've been my inspiration since I was a little girl, and I want to make you proud."

"You've already made me incredibly proud, Bella," Laura said, her voice filled with love and admiration. "You're talented, passionate, and driven. I have no doubt you'll make your mark in the wrestling world, just like I know you'll be an amazing mother."

Bella blushed slightly while rubbing her still growing mid-section, feeling the love and support from her mother. "Thanks, Mom."

“Just do me a favor, and don’t pop when I’m on the other side of the world?”

“Hey, it's bad enough Mal is going to be gone a week before she’s due. Thankfully, it looks like I’m gonna be spending the weekend with Alanah so I’ll be in good hands.”

“Sure, you around your niece and nephews and Jack...that’s not gonna be stressful at all.” Laura laughed.

“Like being here, around my little brother and dad and Mal who are currently having another deep discussion about sports yet again??”

“HOW CAN YOU CALL IT FOOTBALL WHEN YOU BARELY EVER KICK THE BALL?!?”

Mother and daughter stare at each other.

“I’ll get the wine for ya.” Bella says pulling herself up and Laura just sighing.

“Maybe a trip to China is exactly what I need.”

Embers of Change - Embrace The Future

Laura Phoenix stood at the edge of the Great Wall of China, the vastness of the ancient structure mirroring the emotions swirling within her. This was no ordinary match; it was a moment of truth, a chance to prove herself once again. Julianna DiMaria, a rising star in SCW, had already shown her prowess in the ring, and Laura knew she couldn't underestimate her.

As the wind whispered through the historic stones, Laura took a deep breath, feeling the weight of the moment settling on her shoulders. She had faced countless opponents throughout her illustrious career, but there was something different about this encounter. It wasn't just about winning a match; it was about embracing change and embracing the future.

Julianna represented the next generation of talent, the future of wrestling. And as she looked at the Great Wall stretching into the distance, Laura realized that she, too, was a part of that future. Her journey in wrestling had been a rollercoaster of triumphs and setbacks, but she had always emerged stronger and more determined.

"I stand here, at the Great Wall of China, ready to face Julianna DiMaria, a force to be reckoned with in the wrestling world. And as I stand on this historic monument, I can't help but reflect on my own journey," Laura spoke, her voice strong and resolute.

"For all my accomplishments, there's one area where I've come up short recently—capturing singles gold. It's a goal that has eluded me, and it's a void I am eager to fill," she admitted, her eyes holding a touch of vulnerability.

"Throughout my career, I've encountered obstacles that seemed insurmountable, faced challenges that tested my limits. But every time, I rose above them. I embraced change, adapted, and became a better wrestler, a better person. And this weekend, I stand here, ready to face Julianna, not as an end but as a new beginning."

Laura's eyes gleamed with determination as she continued, "Julianna, you're talented, there's no denying that. But know this, I didn't come all the way to China just to be defeated. I came here to prove that the embers of change burn within me, that my passion for wrestling is as fierce as ever."

"The Great Wall stands tall, an enduring symbol of strength and resilience. And just like this ancient wonder, I will stand tall in that ring. I will show you, the fans, and the wrestling world that Laura Phoenix is not done yet. I have more to give, more to achieve, and more to inspire."

She closed her eyes for a moment, feeling the energy of the moment surrounding her. "So, Julianna, bring your best because I'm bringing mine. This isn't just a match; it's a clash of generations, a testament to the ever-changing landscape of wrestling. And when that bell rings, know that I will fight with all my heart and soul, leaving nothing behind."

Laura opened her eyes, her gaze unwavering. "I am ready for this challenge, ready to embrace change, and ready to create a legacy that will stand the test of time, just like the Great Wall. On Sunday, I step into the ring with you, Julianna, and together, we will create a moment that will be etched into the history of wrestling."

"China, it's an honor to stand here in the presence of such rich history and tradition," Laura spoke, her voice filled with appreciation for the moment. "The Great Wall is a testament to the strength and resilience of generations past, and it serves as an inspiration for what lies ahead."

She took a moment to collect her thoughts, the weight of her upcoming match with Julianna DiMaria evident in her gaze.

"In a few days, I'll be facing Julianna, a talented newcomer who's made a name for herself in SCW. I've watched her rise, and I have to give credit where it's due—she's proven herself to be a formidable competitor. But, in the ring, experience and passion can be the difference-makers."

Laura's eyes flickered with a glint of fire as she continued, "I won't deny that my recent journey has seen its challenges. I haven't captured singles gold, and that's something that has been gnawing at me. But you know what? It's also fueled a fire within me, a hunger to reclaim my spot at the top."

"This match isn't just about titles or rankings; it's about proving to myself that I still have what it takes to excel in this industry. I've faced setbacks before, and every time, I've come back stronger. This time will be no different."

She paused, looking out at the vastness of the Great Wall, drawing inspiration from the historical wonder.

"I stand here, ready to embrace the future, ready to take on the challenges that come my way. Julianna, I respect you, and I know you'll bring your best to the ring. But let me make one thing clear—I won't hold back, and I won't back down."

A determined smile tugged at the corner of her lips as she spoke, "This is my moment, and I intend to seize it. China, get ready for a match that will be a celebration of wrestling, a testament to the spirit of competition, and a showcase of the enduring legacy of the Phoenix."

Laura's eyes met the camera's lens with unwavering intensity, her message to the world crystal clear.

"To all the fans who have supported me throughout my career, I say this—I won't let you down. This match is for you, for everyone who believes in the power of change, in the strength of the human spirit."

With that, Laura Phoenix left the interview, her heart ablaze with determination and a newfound sense of purpose. As the sun dipped below the horizon, it marked the end of one chapter and the beginning of another—an epic clash awaited, and the world would bear witness to the phoenix's rise.

Globe Trotting Momma

Summer Xxxtreme had come and gone and despite the loss, Laura was in a pretty decent mood.

One of the benefits of being a vet is you understand that you cannot win them all and the style of match was legit a first for even her and her 20 year career. But the experience of the whole time on the Princess, she finally understood why Bella kept ranting and raving about the experience and her daughter’s subsequent remorse about not being able to attend this year.

Even her husband enjoyed the time they spent aboard the cruise ship, without their son who was spending some quality time with his grandfather while they were away. It was almost like a second honeymoon for them, which said a lot seeing as their 10th wedding anniversary was in just little over 2 months away. That and an early celebration of Laura’s 41st birthday, which as soon as Fenris got wind of that, he promised Bella that his mother would have one of the better celebrations that she would more than likely forget, but the video footage would live on forever.

They would get home, reunited with Aaron and a simple family celebration of her birthday quickly followed, which thankfully she didn’t have to plan at all. She didn’t have a plan at all but to just go back to work, hit the gym and be a mom for a whole week.

...and then an interesting chance popped up. One that she just could not resist.

And now she finds herself packing, and her husband is watching his wife with amusement.

“But we just got home!”

“I know we did, and we had a lot of fun on that ship,” Laura said as she stepped out of her side of their rather large walk-in closet, dropping a choice of clothing into one of the 2 large suitcases she was going to bring with her.

He just looked down with a sigh, “We were supposed to not keep doing the globe trotting thing. Remember? Retired?”

Laura could sense her husband’s ever growing frustration as she situated her bag off to the side, sitting gently on his lap and wrapping her arms around her husband’s neck, “But Nick, I couldn’t turn this opportunity down. For one, it’s Rome. And for two, it’s a true one on one shot at Jessie with hopefully no other outside influence and factors. It is the Roulette Title and we are at the mercy of that wheel that picks the stipulation but I have to try this again.”

Nick just shook his head, his wife’s fire for the ring was definitely reignited and there was going to be no deterring her from this path, “Ok, well do I need to also remind you that our daughter is little over 4 weeks away from giving birth to our first grandbaby?”

“I am well aware and I will do my damndest to make sure that we are there for it but she also made it known that she only wants Mal with her. I have to respect her wishes but I also told her that I would be there if something happened,” Laura said, pulling herself up to her feet and looking down at Nick with her hand on his grizzled face. He was still as handsome as the day they married, “I’m not about to abandon her but she understands what I need to do. Actually I was rather hoping that you and Aaron would like to join me on this tour a little bit. He’s been to England and Japan when he was just a baby but this could be it for me and having you both there...”

Suddenly there was a loud crash coming from down the hall that sent both Nick and Laura running from their room and into the upstairs office where Aaron had managed to climb up onto the desk and while standing at the corner he was spinning the globe that was pulled across the room. He had knocked over a lamp and a side table in the attempt that had sent books and papers flying and the area rug pulled up as well.

“Aaron Levi Madison!” Laura let out after seeing the mess but then she looked around and noticed his little suitcase they had bought him, sitting on the couch. Nick made his way over to the boy, laughing a bit but trying to keep a stern face while Laura walked over to the case, opening it and seeing everything he could possibly need for the trip and even some things he didn’t but it also included his favorite stuffed animal, “Bud? What the heck happened here?”

“I wanted to see where we’re going! I got all packed myself but I decided I needed to look at the ball and see where it was but...” he looked around, “I made a big mess. I’m sorry, mommy. I’m sorry, daddy.”

“Dude, you just scared the crap out of us. That’s all.” Nick said, giving his son a quick hug, “Gotta admire the tenacity though.”

Laura laughed as she set the side table up and walked over to them, “Gets that in spades from the both of us.”

Aaron reaches over and spins the globe fast a few times, “So show me! Where are we going?”

Laura gives Nick a look and he knows he has been completely outvoted in the plans. He just nods and she reaches up and stops it from spinning and turns it ever so slightly, pointing at there location now, “So this is where we are now. And-” with a slight right turn she stops and points at Italy, more specifically, Rome, “And this is where it all begins for us, bubba.”

Aaron’s little eyes squint, trying to read the words, “Ro- ...Ro-may?”

“Close. It’s the home of many a battle, some for game, some for freedom and some for their life.” Nick said.

And with a glint in her eye, Laura looked at the men in her life, “Some of the greatest battles happened right there. In the colosseum of Rome.”

A Heartfelt Conversation

Laura and Bella sat across from each other in a cozy corner of their favorite coffee shop. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air, creating a comforting atmosphere as they delved into their conversation.

Bella looked at her mother, concern etched on her face. "Mom, I've been thinking a lot about your decision to accept the open challenge. It's a risky move, and I worry about your well-being. You've already been through so much."

Laura reached out and took Bella's hand, offering her a reassuring smile. "I appreciate your concern, sweetie. I truly do. But sometimes, we have to take risks to achieve what we desire. This open challenge is an opportunity for me to prove myself, to show that I still have what it takes. It's not just about the championship; it's about reclaiming my own sense of strength and purpose."

Bella's worry lingered, her voice filled with maternal protectiveness. "I know you're strong, Mom, but we both know the wrestling world can be brutal. I don't want you to get hurt, especially with Máire on the way."

Laura's eyes softened with understanding, her love for her daughter shining through. "I understand your concern, Bella. But being a mother doesn't mean giving up on our dreams. It means finding a balance, pursuing our passions while still prioritizing our family. I want Máire to grow up knowing that she can chase her dreams fearlessly."

Bella's gaze shifted, her worry blending with understanding. "I suppose I just need to trust that you'll take care of yourself. I've seen your dedication and resilience throughout the years. I know you won't take unnecessary risks."

Laura squeezed Bella's hand gently, a gesture of gratitude for her understanding. "Thank you for having faith in me, Bella. I promise you, I'll take every precaution to stay safe. I have Nick watching out for me, and I've been training rigorously. This decision wasn't made lightly."

Bella's expression softened, a mix of concern and love. "I just want you to be okay, Mom. You've always been my role model, and I worry about you."

Laura smiled warmly, her voice filled with love. "I appreciate your concern, sweetheart. Your support means the world to me. I'll do everything in my power to come back to you safe and sound."

They sat in silence for a moment, the bond between them growing stronger. The hum of conversation and the comforting presence of the coffee shop enveloped them, reminding them of the love and connection they shared.

Bella finally broke the silence with a soft smile. "Well, Mom, if anyone can overcome the challenges and come out victorious, it's you. Just promise me that you'll be careful, okay?"

Laura nodded, her eyes shining with determination. "I promise, Bella. I'll give it my all, but I'll also prioritize my well-being. You and Máire are my world, and I'll always come back to you."

They shared a heartfelt moment, their love and support evident in their connection. With renewed determination and the unwavering support of her daughter, Laura prepared to face the challenges that awaited her. Together, they would navigate the intricacies of motherhood and the pursuit of their dreams, knowing that their bond would always be a source of strength and love.

The Greatest Battles

“You dared to call it. You called your shot, Jessie.”

The Colosseum stood before Laura Phoenix, a testament to the magnificence of the ancient world. Alone within the colossal structure, its towering walls and haunting echoes enveloped her. The air was filled with a sense of reverence and history, a perfect backdrop for her moment of redemption.

Dressed in her Roman warrior-inspired attire, Laura stood in the center of the arena, her armor glistening under the soft glow of the moonlight filtering through the ancient arches. The stillness of the Colosseum embraced her, offering a sacred solitude that fueled her determination.

With her helmet held firmly under her arm, Laura took a deep breath, drawing in the energy of the storied arena. She closed her eyes, allowing herself to become one with the spirit of the warriors who had once graced these hallowed grounds.

"In this majestic Colosseum, where legends were born and battles etched into eternity, I stand alone," she whispered, her voice resonating with the weight of her conviction. "Tonight, I face a challenge that will define my legacy and forge a path to redemption."

As her words echoed through the ancient structure, Laura's mind traveled back to her previous encounter with Jessie Salco and Mercades Vargas at Summer Xxxtreme. The memory of defeat stung slightly, but in this moment, she drew strength from it. It was a reminder of the hard work, sacrifice, and unwavering determination that had brought her to this point.

"The taste of defeat lingers like a bitter fruit on my tongue, but it fuels the fire within me," she continued, her voice growing stronger. "It has pushed me to not be afraid of the unknown. I have trained harder. I have had to dig deeper, and to rise above the ashes of past failures. Two veteran warriors, like us, know that no amount of defeat will ever hold us down for very long. We either let it eat us alive from the inside, or we can let it slide off into the gutter with all the blood, sweat and tears, letting it absorb into the earth while we just keep on fighting...forever."

The weight of the Colosseum seemed to embrace Laura, amplifying her resolve. She visualized the upcoming battle, the fierce clash against an opponent who had tasted victory before. But this time, things would be different.

"Jessie Salco, I heard your challenge, and I accepted it with unwavering determination," she declared, her words carried by the stillness of the Colosseum. "Within these ancient walls, I summon the warrior within me, ready to face you with every fiber of my being. But I cannot help but be slightly disappointed in you Jess. You seem to think that a part of life makes you weak. I heard all about your words towards an innocent woman. Look, I know there isn’t a soul in SCW that actually likes Gabriel Wank, but you have to admire the woman that raised such a brazen individual....no matter how much we all know in a place such as this, he would be the first to be fed to the proverbial lions. If I had any advice to give? Don’t take the low hanging fruit. It makes you look weak and fresh meat to the ones that are even hungrier than we are."

Laura's gaze swept across the empty stands, imagining the crowd that would soon fill them, roaring with anticipation. But in this solitary moment, it was just her and the weight of her own aspirations. The Colosseum became her sanctuary, a sacred space where she could focus solely on the battle ahead.

"Sunday night, Jessie, within this arena of history and glory, I will claim what is rightfully mine," Laura vowed, her voice filled with unyielding determination. "I will rise above the past, etching my name into the annals of that Roulette championship history as a symbol of not only redemption but as glorious triumph."

The echoes of her words reverberated through the Colosseum, becoming part of the tapestry of its ancient stories. Laura Phoenix, alone in the grandeur of The Colosseum, stood ready to face Jessie Salco, armed with her indomitable spirit and a hunger for victory that could not be extinguished.

The scene was set, the stage was hers, and within the timeless embrace of The Colosseum, Laura Phoenix stood as a warrior, ready to seize her moment of redemption.

Nesting and Bonding

As the excitement from her recent victory began to settle, Laura, besides her usual routine with Nick and Aaron, found solace in the precious moments spent with her daughter, Bella. The anticipation of Bella's impending motherhood filled the air, and Laura wanted to make the most of their time together before she embarked on the Princess Cruise ship for the Summer Xxxtreme wrestling event.

Laura entered Bella and Mal's home, a place that she herself used to call home, her eyes immediately drawn to the partially decorated nursery. Despite the crib, changing table/dresser, and the vibrant rainbow rug, the room lacked the cohesive charm Bella had envisioned. Laura knew her daughter needed a helping hand in bringing the nursery to life for her soon-to-be-born daughter, Máire.

It’s a mess right now.” Bella said, with her very prominent belly sticking out as she brought her mom a warm cup of coffee. An addiction that they share together. “Mal base painted it a week ago, but-

Laura approached Bella with a smile, her heart filled with maternal love and determination to create the perfect sanctuary for her grandchild. "Bella, let's tackle this nursery together," she said, wrapping her arm around her daughter's shoulder. "We have a week before I set sail, and I want to make sure Máire's room is as magical as she is."

Bella's tired eyes lit up with gratitude. She had been feeling overwhelmed, trying to balance pregnancy symptoms, helping Malachi get through his injury, and the desire to create a nurturing environment for her unborn child. "Mom, that would be amazing," she replied, her voice laced with relief. "I want everything to be just right for Máire."

The mother and daughter spent the following hours diving into a whirlwind of creativity and imagination. Laura suggested painting some of the areas of the walls a soothing pastel shade, one that would bring a sense of calm and serenity to the space. They picked out soft, ethereal curtains that would gently filter sunlight into the room, creating a tranquil ambiance.

Together, they embarked on a shopping spree, searching for the perfect decorative elements to personalize the nursery. They discovered whimsical wall decals of fairies and woodland creatures that would go perfectly with what would be a dedicated reading area for Bella to read to her daughter, delicate mobiles that would capture Máire's attention, and shelves to showcase cherished mementos and children's books.

Laura and Bella's laughter echoed through the aisles of stores as they debated over color schemes and discussed the merits of different plush toys. They carefully selected a beautiful plush rocking chair for Bella and Malachi to rest in during late-night feedings, its gentle creaking lulling Máire into sweet dreams.

Without fail, the next day Laura would show up early with coffee in hand for the girls and of course Malachi. The trio hung framed photographs of family members, reminding Máire of the support and joy that awaited her in the world. Bella arranged clothes in the dresser, folding each tiny onesie and baby bootie with care and anticipation.

Finally, the room was complete...almost. Laura stood back, admiring the magical transformation they had achieved. The nursery was a testament to their love and dedication, a space where Máire would grow, dream, and be surrounded by the love of her family.

This was something that she missed out on with Bella, and while she had it with her son, it was something that she was never going to be able to get back with her oldest. Mind you Laura was 16 at the time, but she would have given anything to decorate a nursery just like this for her. She could have easily seen herself chasing her little girl around the room, watching her grow but it was robbed from her.

It was something that she, with time, was able to forgive her parents for. Before her mother’s death in 2017, they did just about everything possible to make up and build a true relationship with their granddaughter and Laura’s father has since continued to stay true to that. But watching Bella’s ever blooming pregnancy, she couldn’t help but think back to all the arguments that came from that time, her life was a complete 180 from what Bella’s was. In a perfect world, she would have raised Bella on her own but she wasn’t given that chance.

Laura felt those tears of what could have been stream down her face, it had always set in the back of the mind but now seeing it, it all came rushing to the forefront. She did her best to try and hold it all together but the sobs fought their way forward as she tried to stifle them with her hand.

Bela walked back into the room, hearing a small sniffle coming from her mom, “Mom? Are you okay?

The sound of her voice startled her for a moment, quickly wiping away the tears but it was pointless cause they just flowed. At this point it was happy but sad tears. Laura gave up trying to even cover it up any more as she turned and quickly engulfed Bella tightly in a hug, she whispered, "You're going to be an incredible mom, Bella. And Máire is going to adore her nursery."

Bella's eyes shimmered with tears of joy and gratitude. "Thank you, Mom. I couldn't have done this without you. I'm so lucky to have you by my side."

The mother and daughter embraced, cherishing the bond that held them together through triumphs and challenges. Laura knew that as she embarked on her wrestling journey, Bella and Máire would remain in her heart, providing her with strength and inspiration to face whatever lay ahead.

That moment was quickly ended though when the sounds of Luka’s excited barking stirred the entire house, followed up by Malachi letting out, “OH CHRIST! What are you doing here?

Followed up by them walking out to see Mal holding the door open and behind a variety of rather large stuffed animals we see Demetrius Spinelli standing there, hair as wild as always and a smile, “Gracious greetings to all!

From Spectacular Heights

The time she didn’t spend with Bella and Mal preparing the nursery for her granddaughter was spent tucked away in the facility that became a home away from home for some people, built in a tall building that sat on the grounds of the Madison home.

Considering how hard both Laura and her husband Nick both worked through the years, you could tell it was built with love and determination from them both. Everything had a touch of them both from the place they called their home, to the land to the building that housed their entire gym all the way to the practice ring that they kept up at all times.

Her husband, Nick Madison, who had retired for the final time back in January was quite proud and impressed with his wife’s determination to make this run, whether it’d be her last or not, count in every form and fashion. So when Laura explained to him what was in her near future and it being the first for her to ever be involved in an Ultimate X style match, he wasted no time calling up favors from all around to make sure that his wife was indeed ready.

Nick, what is this surprise?” you could hear the annoyance in Laura’s voice as he had her blindfolded and leading across the parking lot, “I swear, I’m not afraid of it anymore.

Very funny, babe,” Nick quipped, holding his wife’s hands in his while make sure he wasn’t about to bite it on one of Aaron’s outdoor toys, “You swear you can’t see anything?

It’s as dark as Kayla’s sense of humor,” she joked back. Laura took a deep breath, “The only thing I can tell is that we’re outside and that there is a storm not that far off.

That slick little smirk could be felt from Nick’s face as he looked off to the horizon, “Yeah, it’s looking rather dark off to the west so I guess we need to make this quick before we get soaked. Then again, you are wearing white and I wouldn’t mind a show.

Even after all these years, you are a horrible flirt.” she said with a swipe of her hand but she completely missed, which caused her to stumble a bit, “Dammit.

Sorry beautiful, you brought that on yourself,” he said as they reached the door, he opened it up and led her just inside, “Ok, stay right there for a moment.

He placed her one hand on the door hinge so she could keep her balance while he quickly runs to one side of the room and he flips some switches and then jogs back up to Laura, “Ok, you ready?

For?

Silence for a moment before he carefully removes the blindfold, and whispers in his wife’s ear, “Open your eyes and see.

Laura’s eyes blink open, as her eyes get used to going from dark to light and then her eyes widen in shock, “Oh my...Nick did you build me...

Laura’s words catch in her throat, “Your own Ultimate training ground? Why, yes...yes I did. Not going to lie, it was Bella’s idea several weeks ago when you qualified. And I figured you have been working hard on building your upper body and what better way to test it then in your own makeshift Ultimate X setup?

Laura’s eyes made her way up to where the cables crossed, as she walked across the room and when she got to the scaffolding that built up to those cables she just stopped, “It’s fantastic.

Nick gave a genuine smile as he wrapped his arms around his wife’s torso and hugged her, while nuzzling her neck, “I know I haven’t been as vocal as I have been about my support for your return but seeing as you had my back before I retired, I had to give you just a little acknowledgement of what you are doing with SCW and proof as to how much I really believe in you.

Oh Nick...” Laura sniffed, “Hun, I know that you support me. I never doubt that for a second and having you on the cruise with me to show that, well that’s the best thing but this...this is above and beyond.

This is the least I could do,” Nick says as he gives her a quick kiss on the cheek, “The other is giving us a second honeymoon on that boat and then winning that Roulette Championship.

Well, the only way I can do that is if I start getting used to the idea that suddenly it’s like being back on the playground with other people trying to knock me off.

Training it is, then we’ll find a babysitter for Aaron,” Nick nodded.

Actually, Aaron is going to be spending the week with his big sister, and if he gets to be too much my sister will take him and he can get spoiled by her and Jesse,” she said with a smirk, “I wasn’t about to take my first cruise and it not just be you and I.

The smile that followed that statement could only be described as pure seduction, “I’m willing to bet you have some amazing bikinis already picked out too.

Now that, you’ll just have to wait to find out.

Respect Among Vets, Never Among Thieves

There is an absolute fine line between respect given and respect received.

I’m a firm believer that without a shadow of doubt that Jessie Salco gives me true respect and honestly, respect is given right back. She has earned it beyond an absolute shadow of a doubt and I have honestly been excited for this opportunity to stand across from her in a match.

Mind you...ours is around a pool where we will be tested in more ways than one.

When it comes to Mercedes Vargas though? Well I cannot say the same. Sure, she’s won plenty in the past but when it comes to the facts, she only respects one person and that is herself. I kicked back and watched a while ago how she treated others, especially my own daughter. We watched how many people beat respect into her and yet in her arrogance, she still can’t buy into the fact that to get respect, you have to give it where it is absolutely due.

Ladies, the fact is absolutely simple, we’re going to go into this match aboard the Princess Cruise, in what is supposed to be the hottest show of the year in a match that I’m told is a placeholder always in this show.

And I’m facing a first, in all the years that I have been doing this, through all my matches and all my reigns, I cannot recall one time that I have ever been in a match quite like this. Ladder matches, sure. I’ve never had to play the ultimate game of chicken, hanging on for dear life over a pool.

Sure, I’m wet behind the ears when it comes to this match but the one thing thing I’m not is ignorant in the fact that I know that both Jessie and Mercedes will without a shadow of a doubt be out to knock me off of the pedestal that I am on. After all this time, having a chance to win gold and proving that I am on the proper track? That alone motivates me to the point of well practically feral.

Despite the fact that I’m going to be only days away from my 41st birthday, I am stronger, I am faster and for sure a whole lot smarter than I was when I started my journey all those years ago. I’m going to give myself the absolute biggest birthday present ever, and that is my first real championship in almost since 2016 when I snatch that Roulette Title from the center of that contraption and you both are left just wet.

"Through the Smoke"
Wednesday afternoon
Madison Home

Laura Madison stood at the broad living room window, gazing out at the hazy skyline of New York City. The acrid smell of smoke filled the air, a constant reminder of the wildfires raging across the Canadian border. She sighed, torn between a few pressing concerns.

As Laura's four-year-old son, Aaron, tugged at her hand, she knelt down to his level. His bright eyes pleaded for adventure outdoors, but the smoke-laden air made it impossible to grant his wish. She explained, "I know you want to play outside, buddy, but the smoke is too dangerous right now. We have to stay indoors until it clears up."

Frustration welled up inside Laura as she watched Aaron's disappointment as he yelled out, “But mommy, I wanna go swing and play in the pool!”

The skies over their home was orange between all the smoke and the sun. It was bad enough that Nick had to be out in this. She wanted nothing more than to protect him from harm, but the circumstances made it challenging.

Determined to distract him, Laura finally got an idea, “Hey, bud I have a suggestion. How about we build a fort in the living room? We’ll get it just right where we can watch any movie off of Disney+ and we can bring all kinds of snacks in with us.” Hoping that promising to make it an adventure of their own would be incentive enough to keep the youngest Madison from getting a bad case of cabin fever.

“Will daddy join us?”

When he gets home, you better believe it. He’d never say no to a Disney marathon.” Laura said with a smile before nodding towards the stairs that led to his bedroom upstairs, “Come on, let’s go pick some fun blankets and pillows.

Aaron cheered loudly, taking off well ahead of his mother shouting at the top of his lungs, “I’ll grab Stitch too!”

The laughter of her son as he made his way up the stairs made this gloomy day a little brighter but before she could follow him up the doorbell rang, “Hey bud, someone is at the door, just bring it to the top of the stairs and wait for me, okay?

“OKAY MOMMY!” Aaron let out before he got to the top of the stairs and ran down the hall to his room.

After she made sure to check the video at the door, she smiled and opened the door to the smiling face of Spinelli along with his young daughter Rose, “Well, hello there.

Gracious greetings, Valkyrie. I’m sorry to come by without calling,” Spinelli said boosting his daughter up on his hip. Little Rose giggled, as her blonde pigtails bounced.

Oh Spinelli, you should know by now that it’s perfectly fine for you to stop by and of course getting to see your little one is always a plus. I take it you are looking to get out of the smoke?” she said moving aside to let them in and closing the door tight.

Unfortunately, we were at the park when the smoke moved in. Breeze had an appointment across town, so I got an uber for us and this was the closest place I could think of to take refuge.” Spinelli said as he grabbed a pack of wipes out of the bag that he carried to wipe his daughter’s face off.

Well, it just so happens that Aaron and I were about to make a big ole blanket fort and make it a day. You’re more than welcome to join us...” just as Laura looks up and blanket come flying over the railing along with a few pillows to follow, “Aaron Levi! I told you to leave them at the top of the stairs!

“It’s faster!” Aaron let out as he looked down through the railings, “HI UNCLE SPINELLI! HI ROSE!”

Laura just drops her head and mumbles “I swear that kid gets more like Nick every day. Why don’t you guys head into the kitchen, get cleaned up while I help him before he ends up breaking something expensive.

I’ll message the wife and the White Knight to let them know as well, save you the hassle of worrying about that and who knows, maybe they’ll grab us some substance.” Spinelli says with a grin.

Perfect!” Laura laughs out, “We’ll convene in the den in 10 minutes.

Within the next hour or so, Nick had made his way home to the surprise of the blanket fort, in the middle of Rose’s choice of Encanto. Aaron had given his guest the choice to go first. It was the first time in a while that the Madison crew got to hangin out with Spinelli and his family and once Breeze had joined them, it was a real party. While Laura got to really devote her time to Aaron, her mind wandered to another pressing matter—the upcoming matches that loomed in her future. In the den that had been dedicated to her and Nick’s careers, a faded wrestling poster hung on the wall, showcasing a photo of Laura in, what some would consider, her prime, the true height of Laura Phoenix.

An interesting chance for redemption had arrived, when she qualified for the Roulette Ultimate X match for Summer Xxxtreme. But Sunday marked a pivotal match against the formidable Seleana Zdunich. The former champion's dominance in the wrestling world cast a shadow over Laura's hopes of reclaiming her former glory. Her ticket may have been already punched to the cruise, but there sometimes, claiming dominance would prove to a few people that she was still a force to be reckoned with.

Training and Preparations
The next day

Laura's determination surged within her as she mentally prepared for the upcoming battle. She had spent months honing her skills, pushing herself to the limit in grueling training sessions. Muscle memory began to resurface, reminding her of her once-formidable prowess in the ring.

But doubts still gnawed at her. Would she be able to regain her past glory? Did she have what it took to defeat an opponent as seasoned as Seleana Zdunich? The answers lay within Laura's unwavering determination and the fire that burned within her. It was bad enough that the loss to Kayla was still gnawing at the back of her head. But this...this was something different.

As the days ticked down to the match, Laura's home became a sanctuary of physical and mental preparation. From her improvised living room fort where it turned into late-night sessions studying footage of Zdunich's matches with Nick and Spinelli, who had a keen eye for things that she may have missed, all the way to the converted detached garage that became an on ground personal gym, she poured her heart and soul into her preparations just like she was taught.

Above the door to the outside of the building hung a sign that she took from her first training facility, the one that she had almost died in more than once but the one big moment was truly a moment that defined her career when her own trainer tried to burn it down with her inside it. The sign managed to survive the fire somehow and she kept it as a reminder. It hung over what was called “Wash-out Lane”. Course times were different then, it was harder to push through and she watched many give up and take a trip under that sign. But for her it held a whole other meaning, she had to be forced to go down it to survive.

You know there was a period of time that every time I took a long look at that sign and I remembered about every single person that punched down on me. And it motivated me to pick myself up and swing back even harder. There was even once that I used it to let it fuel my absolute hate towards a lot of people that made me feel less and inferior. When Bombshell Roulette Champion, Jessie Salco brought up this whole thing going on with Krystal, it brought back all these memories of that time.

Now I know what some of you are thinking- What the hell does this have to do with Seleana? Damn good question, Seleana obviously has that same ability about her but she, like me, is looking for that next chance. It was even made known that a victory for her at this Climax Control meant that she would be added into the Bombshell Roulette Championship match. And as much as I wanna see her do it, I can’t let that happen.

You know, part of me is still feeling almost like a rookie in some ways. Yeah I have the resume a mile long but at the same time that was in places that a long time ago, and in a land far away and I still feel like I have so much to prove when I know that a lot of people would tell me that I have nothing left to prove. But beating you Seleana, that you make an amazing impact and denying you that chance at Summer Xxxtreme. But look, no matter what, I wanna see you bring that fire that I had then and I can feel building week after week. The muscle memory is returning and I know that it is only a matter of time til it all clicks just right.

You all know the story of the Phoenix right, burns bright, burns to ashes and then once the smoke clears...it’s reborn. Well the smoke is clearing, everyone. Be warned, it’s about to get really hot.

A Very Busy Woman

There is absolutely no rest for the wicked around these parts. As soon as SCW’s Into the Void came and went, over in the world of PWS:Apex they were preparing for their biggest show of the year.

Needless to say Destiny has done nothing but keep Laura “Phoenix” Madison busy. So many things to do, so little time to do it between preparing with the cast and crew of PWS:Apex the whole show plus their Hall of Fame where she would play a rather huge role there as well but in the meantime, the week leading into it, there were a whole lot of hours being spent inside the office or inside an editing studio.

Thankfully, thanks to a support system she has at least been able to eat.

“HOLD THE DOOR!” a man with a full head of brown hair with a full beard, a messenger bag slung off to the side, a beaten up Boston Red Sox cap pulled down tight and his hands full of takeout boxes recently picked up from the DoorDash driver he met out in the front of the building. He catches as someone is leaving and they hold the door open, “Much appreciation!”

“Any time Spinelli! By the way...she’s in the editing room again.” said the good samaritan as he moved with the speed of the wind towards an awaiting elevator.

Ah, the ever faithful Demetrius Spinelli. “The Jackal” to some, only because there were days that when holding a conversation with this individual, he would refer to himself as such and usually in the third person. He’s a bit of an odd duck, if there was ever a way to describe this man, with his very vast vocabulary, his Spinelli-isms (Nicknames) for every person he’s ever gained as a friend and while he’s not the biggest dog in the fight and he may have had his ass kicked on several occasions, he never backed down from anyone that threatened his “family”.

But since he garnered up the courage to introduce himself to Laura and quickly offered his services as her very own personal assistant over 12 years ago, he has never wavered his loyalty to his Valkyrie (Spinelli-ism for Laura), her White Knight (Spinelli-ism for Nick) and the mini-Valkyrie (Bella). In that time he has married a woman that many would call WAY out of his league and they have bloomed his own little family of his own with his Beautiful Breeze.

Spinelli’s job was simple, be Laura’s third and fourth arm, another pair of eyes and a voice of reason when she was neck deep in something major. Whether it’d be professional or personal.

So when she would stretch herself thin, as she’s been known to do especially this time of year with her duties and obligations, The Jackal was there.

Even with Chinese Takeout.

Meanwhile, in the editing suites, in her full on general manager role Laura sat by their lead editor with a look of uncertainty on both of their faces.

“I don’t know, Dave. It just feels...”

The editor, Dave, looks back at her and just shakes his head, “Flat? Yeah, I know. We’ve been staring at this for almost 4 hours, maybe we need to...”

“No breaks, Dave. Not when we are this close to having it absolutely perfect.” Laura said with a sigh of frustration, “I know it’s painful, my eyes are killing me, too.”

“Then it’s all the more reason to step away for a moment, get some air and refuel. How about it? I’ll even pay for your coffee.”

A knock comes to the door and before either can answer it opens and Spinelli comes barreling in, “The Jackal comes with salvation for the starvation to assist in your preparational abilities.”

“Dammit, Spinelli.” Laura let’s out but Spinelli continues as he moves over to a desk to lay the bags out, “Dave, I have your egg foo yung in here somewhere.”

“You are a fuckin’ hero, Spinelli. What about coffee?”

“It’s running a bit behind, I’m afraid. Last I heard from the app, there had to be an order change...to my refreshment, not to any of yours.” Spinelli said with a smile, “Give it about 5-10 minutes, I’m sure we’ll hear they’re here.”

“Bless you, bro.” Dave said as he picked up his meal, “I’m going to take this back to the office, call my other and let them know that there may be a small chance of being home tonight.” Before Dave leaves the office, “For the love of whatever God you may believe in, get her to go home and get some sleep.”

“On it, Hawkeye.”

“Ooo, I like that. Appreciate the grub, Jackal.”

“DAVE!” Laura called out to now thin air as Dave was already out of the room and halfway down the hall, and well out of earshot...well mostly. “Dammit...Thanks Spinelli, I really needed this delay.”

“No, what the Valkyrie needed was a dinner break and a friend to talk her into going home to the youngest Madison, who I know is missing his mother because he stole the White Knight’s phone to call and beg his Uncle Jackal to tell mommy to ‘come home’.” Spinelli picks up a rather large container, “Sweet and sour chicken, with rice...and extra sauce. Not as good as driving you home, but I rather my boss eat and stay alive right now.”

Laura grabs the box and sits it down on her lap, followed by him handing her a silverware, “Thanks.”

A simple smile between friends and colleagues “So, tell me what is the the conundrum that is keeping you from joining your family and preparing yourself to head to Reno after we get through Destiny.”

“Well, it’s this video package we’ve been working on for one. It’s important and I feel like it’s just lacking that extra...punch. It’s bad enough that I’ve been shoved into the background for a bit so I feel like I need to get this part right.” Laura says turning to the computer and glaring at it, “I just can’t ignore my duties.”

“You also have a duty to yourself and your family. Valkyrie, you have been here every single day for the last 2 weeks...”

“Well it’s better than feeling absolutely fucking useless otherwise.”

“Valkyrie...”

“No, Spinelli, you don’t get it. I chose this whole life and I feel like I’ve been doing nothing but pissing it all away.” Laura hits a button on the keyboard and the video begins to play as she sees the face of her friend who passed away recently, “What the hell would he tell me if he saw me like this? Letting some bitch tell me that I’ve grown too damn old to be the absolute best like I was? Letting her get to me and letting her catch me off guard? I used to beat people up like that on a daily basis.”

Spinelli takes a seat and opens up his chicken chow mein and digs in, taking a few bites and taking in what his boss is telling him, “So, in your terms, the Valkyrie is putting herself into her tasks, letting her creative judgment block her from preparing herself to bounce back from her loss to Kayla at Into the Void.”

“Well, I’m still going to the gym and whatnot, that’s never stopped...but I don’t know..this whole thing with Destiny has me tied up. I feel like I’m partially responsible now for things he was but at the same time, I’ve been away for far too long.” Laura laughs hitting the button again to pause it, “When I pulled myself out of competing professionally the first time, it was when I lost my mom. I came back because...at the time it felt like the right thing to do. I had that tingle again.”

“Well, you always did your best work when you were motivated.”

Her eyebrows lifted, “Don’t we all?”

Spinelli sets his box up onto the desk and picks hers up off her lap and opens it up, sitting it in front of her before handing her back her fork, motioning her to eat, “Well, yes...but yours is exceptionally true. The loss to Kayla stung though, we all saw it though you put on your brave face.”

“How does one bounce back from that?”

“The same way you always do,” he says sitting back with his food once again, “You just do. Laura Phoenix may be a very strong willed woman, but Laura Madison is someone that up until a few years ago, before Aaron and before her mother passing away, had always taken certain things for granted. Now here you are, the mother of a young child, about to be a grandmother...having no choice but to accept the losses you have been given from almost all corners of your life. You don’t have to fight but you still do because it’s what you do.”

“It’s the only thing I know how to do,” Laura smirked back, “It was what fueled us.”

Laura suddenly sits up, “Valkyrie?”

“I know what’s missing...” Laura smirks and stands up, taking a couple of quick bites, “I need to go find Dave. You are brilliant as always Spinelli.”

She gives him a kiss on the cheek as she picks up the office phone and dials some numbers, “Well the Jackal doesn’t know what he has done but I’ll take that accomplishment if that means getting you out of the shame spiral”

You’ve Been At It For Too Long

So here we are, and once again a lot of people have had to find themselves hitting that ever elusive reset button following Into the Void.

Look, I’m not about to make excuses about what happened in that match with Kayla, she got me on that night but if she thinks for one fucking second that she showed me that my age has caught up with me? She has a whole other thing coming.

I’m going to work my way back up to her before you know it but first, we need to show up and show out against a young lady by the name of Georgie Robertson. A young up and comer that has in her own right turned some heads and has only begun her journey.

Georgie, if I were to give you ANY kind of wisdom leading into this match, it’s simple. Never underestimate your opponent. That seems to be a running theme and it was one that I have fallen victim to, a few different times in my career. I got too brash, too arrogant. And I paid for it, sometimes in more ways than one. It has cost me time, it has cost me the chances that I could have had. I don’t want those that follow the path that I laid out to make those same damn mistakes.

Enjoy the ride, but don’t get too cocky to the point where you turn into a hollowed shell like our Internet Champion that can’t enjoy anything, at all.

Georgie, I have nothing against you except that you are simply on the path that I need to get myself back on. You have something you can afford right now, and that is time.

I’m not going to let myself fall victim again.

It Was Like You Wanted This
November 12th, 2022

Sunday’s inside the Madison household on off weeks were spent occasionally with Bella and Mal joining them.

Most of the time, it was spent with Laura and Bella laughing as Mal and Nick got into a heated discussion about American Football versus what the rest of the world called Football as they watched the Steelers, which was a staple during this time of year.

It had been a rather interesting week. Bella was coming fresh off her loss to Kayla and then as if she just couldn’t help herself. A couple nights ago, Laura checked in with the crew over at SCW as she had done on a regular basis, especially since Bella’s return and her ears perked.

”But, Bella Madison put it all on the line and did her family name and lineage proud. I’m sure her father and mother were watching from above, smiling at their little girl…”

”What do you mean Nick Madison and Laura Phoenix aren’t dead?....oh, wait, it’s just their careers that kicked the bucket…my bad.”

And this was POST Kayla’s victory over her daughter. It was like Kayla couldn’t help but scream out into the void, looking for a fight.

But she was retired.

That was no secret. There was nothing left for Laura Phoenix to prove and Laura Madison was content on being a mom to Aaron and Bella (when she needed her, which now-a-days it was more hand holding through her journey with her and Mal trying to conceive) and her actual position of General Manager.

So why in the hell did it eat at her like it was?

So when the weekend hit and she watched Kayla once again dominate, Laura watched. Closely. So much so, she didn’t even hear Bella enter into the room and watch over her shoulder.

One thing I will always give Kayla credit for, no matter how much success she has, she will always have that chip on her shoulder until someone knocks it off along with her head.

Laura practically jumped out of her seat, like she had been busted watching something she shouldn’t have, “Jesus, you scared the hell out of me.

Sorry, I thought you heard me call for you.” Bella said as she smirked at her mom, leaning over the back of the couch, “Didn’t know you were so interested in things going on in SCW.

Oh, I’m always watching out for new talent.” Laura said, turning the TV down. “So you were calling for me?

Yeah, the burgers are done and I think dad and Mal are about to go another round about the usual and I could really use a buffer before I beat them both senseless.” Bella laughed as she rubbed her forehead, “Aaron can only do so much in his cute department until they both get heated at one another and then even he feels annoyed by them.

Laura just rolls her eyes, “Those two will without a doubt disagree on a numerous amount of things and yet they choose the same damn topic almost every single week.

At least they talk now. Which honestly after 3 years and dad being unsure about Mal at first, I’ll take it.

Just then they hear the back french doors open and a little voice pop in, “Mooooooooooom, they do it again!

The frustration in little Aaron’s voice carried through to the living room as he stomped down the hall, “We’re in the den, bud!” Bella would call out for him. When he finally got there he would stomp over to the couch, crawl up and crossed his little arms over his body, “Daddy and Mal tickin’ you off, little bro?

They stupid!” Aaron says, throwing his hands up, “So stupid.

Well you know that they are really at it if they’ve accomplished making him mad.” Laura laughed, sweeping around and picking up Aaron, “I’m sorry bud, mommy got her attention pulled somewhere else and left you in the line of fire. It won’t happen again.

Laura tickles her son to get him to giggle and cheer him up. After a bit, she stops and Aaron gives her a sweet kiss on the cheek, “It’s otay, mommy. I forgive.

Oh, I’m so glad,” Laura says with a bright smile on her face, returning the kiss on his cheek.

What you watchin’?” Aaron said as he saw the TV on in the background, “Wrestling?

Uhh, yeah...a little bit.” Laura’s eyes grew big because while Nick had popped up now and again after Aaron had been born, she never gave thought to sliding back into the ring since she found out he was pregnant. She stood up, keeping Aaron in her arms and looked back at the TV with something different in her eyes that her son picked up on.

Aaron tilted his head, “
Are you goin’ back?

Umm, not sure, baby. Daddy and I have our hands full enough as it is.” Laura says as she turns and peaks over her shoulder at the TV, “But if I was going to, would you be okay with that?

HELL YEA!” Aaron let out as loud as can be, which caused Bella to absolutely lose it laughing. This confused the littlest Madison, “What? What I say?

Laura is trying to keep a straight face herself before she gives a quick glare to her oldest, “Nothing baby, just gotta have a little chat with daddy and Mal about a certain word that you shouldn’t use...yet.

Aaron looks confused for a moment before we hear the door swing open with almost a crash and Nick looking around in a panic, “AARON?!?!

Laura turns on her heels and decides to calm the situation immediately, “He’s in here!

Oh thank God!” Nick said, clutching his chest, walking into the den. He catches his breath as he looks at his son in his wife’s arms, “Bud, you shouldn’t walk away like that on me.

You gave us a hell of a scare, kid!” Mal said following behind him.

Well he got sick and tired of hearing you two cluck away about the football argument for the millionth time this season.” Bella jested at them, as she tucked herself by her husband’s side, “So he came in here to get away from it. Can’t say I blame him!

Laura smiles at the two who look super confused by it, “Yeah, guys...we love you to death but can you please find something else to discuss?

I will when he does.” Mal grumbled out.

Nick scoffed at this and turned and if looks could kill, “You called it an insult!

Mal pulls away and squares up with Nick and waves his arms wildly, “
It is when only 2 whole players on a team of 11 actually only make contact with the ball with their foot.

Bella and Laura just sigh in defeat, and Aaron pushes his way down from her arms and stomps over to them and standing between his dad and his brother-in-law screams at the top of his little lungs, “SHUT THE HELL UP!!! BOTH YA!!!

The two men’s eyes got big as they stared straight down at Aaron who threw his best hazel eye’d glare he could manage while Laura and Bella both lost their absolute shit with laughter, leaning against one another. After a bit Mal and Nick just look at one another and begin to laugh themselves, at the entire situation.

I- I can’t even be mad at him for that.” Nick said as he picked his boy up, “Someone has been listening to mommy a little too closely.

Oh don’t even try to pawn that off on me,” Laura said, pulling herself together with her hands on her hips giving her husband a playful glare, “He’s got your temper.

Oh we’re all completely fu-” Bella slaps Mal’s shoulder as he catches himself, “In trouble then. Come on ladies, dinner is all set and getting cold.

You all go on. I’m gonna turn off the TV real quick.” Laura says as she heads towards the couch that she was sitting on and reaching down to grab the remote. She looks over her shoulder for a brief moment before a scene unfolds in front of her and it causes her to smirk, “Well, who knows...maybe someday I’ll find a way back.”

Temptation is a hell of a drug.

It Was Meant To Be
Somewhere Over the Atlantic
April 24th

Things from Romania to Ireland were a bit on the tense side.

One thing Laura had always credited herself on, was being a support system for her family. Even with Mal’s disposition towards never ever wanting to be coddled, she would still try and be more than just his mother-in-law, she saw a chance to mentor him.

She could see it on his face, his recent losses ate away at him, feeling like he was letting his growing family down. Meanwhile, all Bella could do is tell him how much she loved him, being his support system. She was great at that.

But Laura had seen this once before with Nick. A support system can only go so far sometimes when you feel like your path is so rocky that it could break you, and you will snap and destroy what you can. She could only hope and pray that the two of them believed in each other enough, because she could feel it coming.

But as she looked up at the two of them, side by side as Bella checked in on the carrier that carried the new member of their crew, an adorable little void that she insisted on calling Salem, he watched as Mal carefully pulled her back, giving her a kiss on the forehead and she would simply lay her head on his shoulder.

All this could do was bring a smile to her face as she watched her daughter drift off to sleep with Mal moving her hair out of her face and reaching down to give her ever growing bump a quick touch.

He didn’t see it but Laura would shift her phone just enough to snap a picture of that shared moment. Hopefully something that they can look back on, with their journey with them and her granddaughter to be.

In the back of Laura’s mind, it never really dawned on her that she was really about to be a grandmother. Mind you, she had Bella at such a young age, that the two of them were more friends than mother and daughter.

Despite what some may think, she had only turned 40 last year, and all the cracks made by some about her age were like water off her back by this point.

“Mrs. Madison?”

Laura looked up from her seat at the flight attendant, “Hey, sorry...kinda in my own little world.

“That’s quite alright. If you don't want to disturb your daughter and son-in-law, the back area is open if you want to get work done or whatever.”

Oh thank you Mallory, I think I’ll take you up on that.” Laura said as she shifted her bag, “Could I perhaps get some water here in about 10 or so minutes?

“I just put some in our little cooler when we took off, should be cold by then.”

Thanks.

Laura would take one last glance at the couple before she picked up and moved to a different part of the plane and placed it quietly on the desk. She would sit in the office chair and happily slip off her shoes and throw her legs up and just stretch out for a moment before settling back down in the chair and just looking around.

You know, once upon a time, I too had a chip the size of the Grand Canyon on my shoulder. BOTH shoulders to be exact, I felt like the world was out to get me and I was hell bent, every moment of every day to make a whole lot of people absolutely miserable.

It had garnered me a fair amount of success back then. I had a couple of titles despite the amount of naysayers that constantly nipped at my heels, and I loved every single time they attempted to wipe my name off the map. Mind you, they came close several times. Beaten within an inch of my life, almost burnt alive but that chip led me to even bigger and brighter things. But it also led to a lot of heartbreak.

She looks back and grabs a picture of Nick, Bella and Aaron.

I gotta admit, there were a lot of times that I even was at the right moment at the right time but my track record stands and no one, not even the great “Dreamkiller” herself, can deny that. So in the grand scheme of things, why in the hell after 5 years did I decide to dust off my boots, throw on the always revealing spandex and put myself back into the line of fire? Simple, because I wanted to.

She shrugs, putting the picture down in front of her on the desk.

Yeah, I could have resigned my position in PWS and returned to the roster there but I felt the challenge was in SCW. That Blast From the Past opened up an avenue that put me on the fast track right to you. The very same woman that has been doing just about everything to get my attention since about September during your first reign with that Internet Championship. Now here we are and as if the fates adore me, I was victorious in Romania and we are going to slide into London for Into The Void with the longest game perhaps I have ever played.

Laura leans back in the chair and looks up in a contemplative thought.

The way I see it, all these cracks made about my age is just projection on your part. I’ve gone all this time and it looks like I never left. I left the game but the game never left me and honestly, I’m just at this point where I can kick back and let you run your mouth like we all know you are so capable of doing but you know damn well that my level is something that you aren’t quite capable of reaching. So beating me at Into the Void gets you what? A notch on the resume that you defeated a two-time Hall of Famer and retention of that Internet Title. But at the end of the day you will remain that same bitter bitch that is so damn insecure that she would project that whole madness onto someone who wants for nothing but still will do what it takes to knock that chip right the hell off that shoulder.

I have been going back and forth, time and time again about how I wanted to approach this whole damn thing and that sticks out to me the most. You are like me 10 years ago. You fucking hate the world and will do just about whatever to takes to let everyone know and drag them to hell with you. Well, babe, this ‘old lady’ has been around the block enough to know that all the horse shit attitude will only get you so far before someone....like me...comes around and shows you that you have only begun to learn. But I don’t intend on you learn the way I had to, like getting beaten to a pulp or burned alive...instead I’m going to bruise the fuck out of that ego and I’m going to take the SCW Internet Title home to my 4 year old to play with just to show you that sometimes Kayla, you have to grow the hell up and let go of that anger if you truly want the finer things in life.

She motions around but brings up a finger like she caught something in mid thought.

And yeah we may not even want the same thing but I had a choice. My path is my own and well finally getting that moment that you have been waiting for...is finally here. And I guess retirement that turned into semi-retirement turns into ride the fucking bitch until the break fall off because win, lose...or whatever...I’m not going to go away for as long as possible.

And don’t worry Kayla, I’m sure you can show this old bitch some new tricks, but there are times that even the classics are so much better than the remakes. Dreamkiller, meet your Nightmare, who is going to take that SCW Internet Title with a smile on her face.

She gives a saucy little wink with her left hazel eye before her phone goes off, she picks it up and looks at it and smiles as she runs her finger across the screen, answering the call.

Well if it’s not my two favorite boys in the whole wide world!

Mommy? When will you be home?

Soon baby, and when I get there we will have a big night of pizza and movies.” she smiles, “Daddy has the time and everything and then we will spend a whole amazing week before we go to London, okay?

We will pick you guys up from the airport soon.” we hear Nick say, “We love you!

Love you too, can’t wait to be home with you guys.

And with that the call ends and she looks softly at her phone.

It really is the finest thing in life.

Semi-Retired Kind of Life
JFK Airport

It had been a long while since she got to travel like this. Barbados to NYC for only a couple of days to a remote Scottish Isle.

The hardest was hearing her 4-year-old son cry about how he wanted to come with her but both her and Nick had agreed that he needed to stay back for now, go to school and she would check in on them every night.

She spent the majority of the last 5 years at home with Nick and Aaron, and there isn’t a day that went by that she lived with any sort of regret. Getting that time with them was something she didn’t have with Bella, especially at that age. But when the BFTP came around, she took a chance. While she and Mac didn’t make it past the second round, she had to admit that it was like wearing an old familiar hat that she loved so much and while a little dusty, with enough work it would be clean and crisp once again.

Following that show, she traveled with Bella and Malachi to pay a visit to Mal’s mother, Aileen for a quick 24 hours before hopping a flight back to New York. Her and Bella held on to a secret that would be revealed soon enough but there were two very important people that she had to tell.

She just hoped that they would both understand.

The moment she stepped off the plane, she was greeted by the happiest little voice, “MOMMY!!!!

Her face lit up the moment she saw her 4-year-old son make a b-line right for her. At that point it was bags be damned because she just wanted to pick Aaron up and give him the many missed hugs between them as much as possible, “Hey baby!” she said, bending down and picking him up, “Oooo I missed you so much!

As you can tell, we missed you too,” she heard as her husband Nick Madison finally got up to them, giving his wife a peck on the side of her head, “No Bella and Mal?

Laura sighed and gave a sad smile, “No, they decided to head back to Waterford to spend more time with Aileen. Honestly, after what happened on Sunday night, it’s not a horrible idea.

Yeah, I saw that.” he mumbled, as he wrapped his arm around her, grabbing her rolling bag with the other and leading them both to the car, “Sometimes being back in the hometown is the best thing after something like that. Speaking of...how are you doing after everything?

I’m doing just fine. It was a hell of a tournament, Bobbie and Jack were the better team that night and I’m not disappointed in any of it. It was fun, the first real fun that I had in this business since mom passed away.

Nick looks a little insulted, “What? What about our match that we just had with the crew?

Oh, babe. That was business, and while I loved teaming up with you and Levi and the others...I did this strictly for me,” Laura looks guilty for a moment, “It’s not that I don’t love being a general manager and being a mentor and whatnot but my time in the Blast from the Past was a release that I didn’t even know I needed.

It sounds like you don’t want it to stop,” Nick said, stopping in his tracks, realizing what is going on in his wife’s head, “Something else happened, didn’t it?

Laura took a deep breath and nodded, “Yeah, following the show Mark and Christian sought me out. Before you freak out, it’s not going to be a completely crazy schedule. They understand that I am a mother and wife, first and foremost and I have other obligations to take care of.

So you said yes?” Nick asked, stone faced for a moment.

Laura stayed silent for a moment and that’s all that it needed to be said.

Nick just shook his head with a smile forming on his face, “I had a feeling this was going to happen. When I first met you, you bleed buckets for the business, it’s one of the reasons I respected you before everything else.

So, you’re not upset?

Nick sighs like he could blame her, “Laur! Not at all. You know I love you and I want you to be happy and I know how much you have missed it. I can’t anymore. My bump card is officially full and I went out the way I wanted, Aaron got to see me wrestle before that happened. You however, still have some more chapters to fill.

Aaron, while young, still picks up on what his parents are saying, and pouts with his little lip out, “So mommy is going to go away again?

Laura looks at her son and snuggles him, “Aww, baby...I’m going to be home for a whole week before I have to leave again for a few days. I’d take you guys with me to Romania but there is a whole thing where I’d rather not give you nightmares at such a young age.

Laura tickles her boy and he laughs out, “Why’s that?

She looks at her boys and with a look that she accepts as a challenge and a bit of a terror, “I get to camp with everyone in Hoia Forest.

Nick coughs for a moment and looks at his darling wife and son, “You know, my Romanian folk-lore is a little rusty, but isn’t that considered one of the most haunted places in the world?

The Bermuda Triangle of Transylvania? Yeah, the same place.” Laura joked as she made a goofy face to make Aaron giggle, “Gonna have to make sure that I get that international plan extended because I will make sure that my GPS is on at all times.

I can’t even remember the last time we went camping, The last time I remember, Aaron was still small

Last time we went actual camping was just before we ended up pregnant with Aaron.” Laura smirks, “But I still need to be ready. At least I got a week plus to prepare.

So tent, air mattress, sleeping bag...” Nick said, loading her bags into the trunk while Laura opened the door for Aaron to climb into his seat.

Incense, Sigils, salt...” the duo looks at one another, Nick laughing and shaking his head, “What?

These are the things that movies prepare us for.

Nightmare Fuel
Hoia Forest
Present Day

The week and a half back home went by fast and there wasn’t a day that didn’t go by that she didn’t treasure her time with her husband and son but preparation was important.

There were indeed methods to the madness of the veteran and as if someone smiled down on her, she was that much closer to her true purpose.

The long game became a little shorter.

She just had to get there first.

There was work that needed to be done. Not so much psychically, but mentally.

By the time the wheels had touched down in Romania, she had everything she possibly could need when it came to camping. The ride to the site was quiet as her driver spoke very little english but the little that they did speak, she was informed that they thought they were all crazy for even agreeing to do this.

But for Laura, she looked at it as a chance to face fears that she hadn’t faced in years.

When they arrived, she quickly removed her gear from the car, barely got out a “Merci” before the car took off.

Some people rather run from their fears than face them, I guess.

Her first goal was to find everyone, make sure she would silently ask permission to whatever spirits may be there to set up, get it done and then her motherly instincts kicked in. She made Bella a promise to keep an eye out on Malachi and even Miles and Carter who went for the hell of it.

Mom, promise me you will look after those guys. I know they are grown men, but they are also the kind that would go and manage to piss off even the gentlest of spirits.” she would hear Bella beg on the phone.

Honestly the look of the place in the day, it looked like any other normal forest but at night, the majority would stick together around one centralized spot. Feuds and general dislikes be damned.

Laura would join them the majority of the time but by the time Miles got around to drunkenly belting out the 3rd rendition of ‘Peaches’, she could feel something in the winds of even the spirits being annoyed.

She wouldn’t go far from them, but just far enough where their voices sounded like a mumble. Into a clearing, where the night sky above was full of stars but there was the beginning of a low level fog forming.

Laura would reach into her pocket of her coat, “I come in peace and intend no harm. Forgive my friends, and keep them safe. May I enter into this clearing, in love and peace?

She would wait ever so patiently, when a sudden gentle breeze would blow a path, not too far out but just enough where she could step out into the clearing and get a better look at the sky.

I thank you.

Laura would sit on the ground and just look around. While some saw spooky, she saw beauty and misunderstanding.

You really sometimes have to sit back and appreciate the chances that are presented in front of you. There are some that barely get a chance, there are even few that get the chances at multiple chances. I consider myself blessed.

She shifts around, bringing her knee up and leaning on it.

Back when I began, there weren’t many chances for women. I had walked into a place that had no women on the roster at all, practically begging for any kind of chance and by the time that I finally got going, they realized what I was telling them all along...I am worth it. I took that chance and I made a career out of proving so many people wrong. I loved every minute of it.

Her eyes shifted off to the side as she relives her memories.

After a while, I was seeked for after. I was also beaten up, bloodied and left for dead a few different times. I was put through hell the likes that would make this place seem like Disney World in comparison and not once did I shrink away because I wasn’t allowed to. Other people depended on me and if I didn’t, then no one else would.

Laura shifts herself ever so gently and sits with her legs crossed in front of her. Lifting her eyebrow, she smirks.

That was then. This is now. The game has changed a little, at its most basic is still absolutely the same. When it comes to my time in SCW though, this time...it’s all for me. I gladly step into the lion's den with my head up high, with absolutely nothing to prove and everything to gain. And I know there are more than a few bombshells on the roster that are frothing at the mouth at a chance to take on someone that blazed a path for them.

A screech of some type of bird echos through the tree line that catches her attention for just a moment.

Your record setting Internet Champion, for instance, has more than ONCE brought my name up when I wasn’t even with the company. I heard all of it, Kayla. I heard you calling out into the void trying to goad me in. Well...here I am, girlie. No longer hiding behind the fact that I was blissfully retired. I’m now knocking on the wall that has been put up between you and I.

Of course, standing on that wall, in my way is Gorgie Robertson and Selena Zdunich. These two particular bombshells seem to be always on the outside looking in when it comes to any kind of chance, just patiently waiting for their moment. That big breakout moment that is just on that precipice...only for them to get the chance of having to be in the ring with lil ole me.

Leaning forward Laura smirks gently, placing her hands on her knees.

You see ladies, while Blast from the Past didn’t exactly work out in my favor that doesn’t mean that I’m going to just roll over and accept that is the end. My story ends when I say it does and I’m going to make for absolute certainty that provided we make it out of this place that come Sunday, I’m going to be the one going to Into the Void.

You both, Georgie and Selena, are going to realize real quick, I'm a different kind of spirit. I'm the type that will turn your whole world upside down and inside out. I will make you feel only a small percentage of the pain that I have been put through to even get to this point."

She leans back and holds her hands up and out.

"And it’s nothing personal, at all. But I will not hold back on either of you. It's going to be a hard dose of reality that while the game may have changed on me, the true nightmare has decided to stick around and I'm going to show you two that despite how it's changed, I am more than capable to adapt. To continue to grow despite the ancient nature that some may think has me living in a strange reality that I can’t do this, only when I’ve proven for a fact that I can and I will."

"The hardest thing to grasp, the biggest dream killer... The worst nightmare anyone can have is staying absolutely stagnant. The stubborn refusal to grow. AND I have no desire to just coast by, I'm going to make sure that even though my legacy is secure that there's not one doubt left as to just how good I really am."

Laura stands up and dust herself off, tucking her coat around her a little tighter.

I think I’m going to like it here.

On To Round 2
Following Climax Control
Barbados

‘Just like riding a bike.’

That’s what Laura said to herself once she got the pin for her and Mac Bane’s victory on Climax Control. It felt like people were honestly shocked about how her and the former SCW Champ worked together as a team but at the end of the match, what counted, is they did just that.

So now what?

They waited to see what Round 2 would bring.

Once they got to the back, she was greeted and engulfed by a hug from her oldest, Bella who was just about to crest the 21 week spot. Her baby, carrying her first grandchild...correction...granddaughter.

You looked great out there!” Bella exclaimed brightly, before pulling back and nodding at Mac, “You both did.

I guess two vets of the business do this stuff long enough and something magical happens.” Laura smiled, “I will say it was wonderful, I never worked in a 6-sided ring until then...minus you know getting that pre-show look but it was like nothing changed!

Malachi who was standing behind his wife stepped up, “I will say that frog splash kind of surprised me. I didn’t know you had that in your repertoire.

Yeah! I was hoping for the good ole KTD for old time sake.” Bella pouted a bit.

That brought a laugh from Laura as she shrugged shyly, “Eh, who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks? Besides, I need to save something for the next rounds.

Your mother makes an excellent point, I have a feeling the next time around isn’t going to be...well...quite so easy. Eh, partner?” Mac Bane nodded to Laura with a knowing look.

Nothing in this business ever is easy, as we both know,” Laura points between them with a knowing look, “But as long as it gets you back into that title picture and me with a whole new run? And well...What isn’t hard, isn’t always that fun.

And yet another excellent point.” as Mac nods in approval, “I’m going to let you catch up with your family here and we will definitely be in touch. Thanks for everything tonight, partner.

Mac reaches out his hand and Laura gladly accepts the handshake, “Yes, and thank you. I’ll be seeing you soon.

Mac begins to walk away and just before he turns the corner he hears Bella call out his name, he turns around to see her approach him with a genuine smile, “Hey, umm...I just wanted to say that I couldn’t have imagined a better tag partner for my mom.

Oh?

Yeah, I mean...there is some amazing talent on the men’s side of the Blast but I was genuinely concerned when she had decided to do this. She wouldn’t tell many people this but her having Aaron wasn’t the only reason she stepped away from all of this 5 years ago, there were other reasons.” Bella said looking rather uncomfortable for a moment speaking to the former champ, “But seeing you two out there, just now... I felt like I was worrying about absolutely nothing.

Well, your mother is extremely gifted in that ring and as much as we know about certain people trying to goad her into a fight...” Mac’s tone was light with an eyebrow raised.

Exactly, but knowing you got her back and are protecting her as much as she is you...well I just wanted to say thank you for...you know...all of this and believing in her.

You are quite welcome, Ms. Bella.” Mac said before pointing at her baby bump, “You take care of that little one, she’s the next in the line of some amazing women.

Bella just smiles, placing her hands on her bump as she watches Mac walk away. After a moment, she hears footsteps behind her and turns to notice her mother staring back and giving her a look, “What?” Bella said like she got caught doing something.

What was that all about?” Laura asked as she crossed her arms in front of her, giving her that motherly look that knows that her daughter was up to something.

Bella smiles but just shakes her head and sighs, “Nothing really...I just...sorta thanked him for- for taking care of you. I worry, you know.

Elizabeth Marie, I know you worry. I think though, I’m in good hands with one hell of a partner. It’s nice to be able to say that about someone that isn’t Nick.” Laura laughed, “But don’t tell your dad I said that...we don’t need him trying to get himself killed in the ring again. God knows it took forever for me to be okay with him being back in the gym after his last match.

Oh. My. God. Is he seriously going to-” Bella said with her jaw practically dropping before Laura puts her hands up.

No, trust me...he’s retired for good, but as we know this business never leaves us.” she says before looking around, “Okay, I keep hearing these amazing things about catering here...I’m starving and want to eat before I get changed.

Well then, allow me to point you to the most amazing double chocolate cake that has ever been made.” Bella said, linking her arms with her mom, “I just hope Fenris isn’t around because he’s now got the two of us competing for the sweets. And me being pregnant right now...

Oh that poor guy doesn’t stand a chance.

A Piece of the Heart that I’m Missing
April 6th
New York

It was an unusually warm day in New York, especially for early April. It’s still early spring but being able to break out the sundresses, shorts and flip-flops on this day helped make this day a little easier.

Through the Trinity Cemetery where several generations of families were laid to rest, it had become tradition over the last 5 years for Laura, her sisters Cameron and Jenn and their big brother Michael and their father Jeffrey, all to make a special visit. But this year, she had to make the trip alone due to scheduling conflicts. Laura especially had to do the trip rather earlier than usual because she would eventually end up at the airport and on her way to Scotland.

But it felt like on this particular day her visit was rather important.

You see with Laura she always held the story about the reasons she walked away was indeed due to the fact that she ended up pregnant with Aaron. But if she wanted to be fully honest with herself, it’s what happened months prior to her finding out about that, that made the choice to leave that much simpler.

Wanda Grace O’Neil, the matriarch, had found out shortly after Christmas back in 2019 that she had cancer, and it was extremely advanced. Laura watched in awe as the woman that raised her and pushed her to be powerful, kept her head up high and was determined to fight it. Her mother went round after round after round of radiation. She watched her mother fight with everything she had, sometimes from afar. Laura was still working after all, in other promotions, plastering a smile on her face.

The morning of April 6th though, sticks fresh in Laura’s head. She received an early morning call that Nick heard, when he answered he jousted Laura out of her sleep and when her father told them to hurry to the house, it was pretty much a blur. Laura bee-lined to her mother’s side along with all her siblings standing there and the woman that she had many conflicts with but still loved with everything she had, still fighting...lost.

Laura’s loss of her mother sat hard with her. Even wrestling felt like going to the dentist office. There was no joy in it. Not anymore...at least not then.

But as the years pass, the pain of the loss gets easier. The meeting at her grave site twice a year, Wanda’s birthday and the anniversary of her passing, helped. The group would sit around and talk like they were updating each other and their mother about things going on.

But this year, Laura was by herself.

She would bring a blanket and kneel in front of it with 2 glasses of her mother’s favorite red wine in front of her.

So, where do we start?” Laura said, getting comfy and grabbing her glass, “Well, you’re about to be a great-grandmother. Dad has already been planning on spoiling her absolutely rotten, of course. But he keeps griping that you would have been better at it. Bella and Mal are doing absolutely wonderful and I don’t know who is more excited that they are having a little girl, Bella or Mal.

Laura said with a smile, “Aaron is getting so big and he’s doing wonderful in school. You would have really loved how much he loves to read. In fact, he keeps asking to go see Bella so he can read to her and his niece. Nick finally called it a career, not that he was given much of a choice but...well...

She sighs, taking a sip of her wine, “I decided to give it all a shot again. Just got back from Barbados on Monday, only to get ready to go to Scotland today. It’s like nothing changed, mom. My passion for it came roaring back all over again and I actually had fun. And I admit, I had my trepidations about being a part of the Blast from the Past, I took a chance and well we had a successful first round. But as we got to this week, I got to thinking about you, and how you would’ve reacted.

I know you said you never understood this whole damn thing but even through the issues I had with dad you always pushed me to be true to myself and no matter what wrestling has been there.” Laura smiles sadly, “Somehow, in some way...but we all know that when we lost you it hurt so much that despite my best attempts, when Aaron came around it was easy to just not anymore.

I can’t do that to myself anymore, mom. I won’t do that to myself. Mac is depending on me, Bella watches with so much enthusiasm it’s like she’s a teenager again. But I have something to prove to myself as well, I need to know if I gave it my all once again...well...I don’t want the whole spotlight but a little bit would just be enough to make it all seem right again.” Laura grabs the other glass and tip it so the little that was inside pours out, “I need you to cheer me on too, from wherever the hell you are. I hope that you are just as proud of me now as you were then. And I do miss you, every single damn day. It sucks that you can’t be here to enjoy this, but that’s the selfish part of me.

Laura lifts her glass before finishing it off, “To the strong-willed stubborn O’Neil women...who will never give up that fight.

The Seriousness of the Moment
Eilean Mor, Scotland

Since the twilight of the 20th century, people have flocked to this tiny little island among the Flannan Isles to see if they could solve the mystery of the 3 men that just vanished.” Laura Phoenix stood along the shoreline overlooking the rough seas below, “I remember as a kid, my grandmother, who was born in Northern Ireland before her family came to the United States, she told me the tale of this place. There were always stories of storms that no one saw or high winds that just weren’t there and the 3 men that were on rotation just vanished...no sign, no note...and no coat.

I mean, could it have been possible that storms clobbered these islands without anyone seeing them coming and thus ending the lives of those 3 men?” she shrugs, “It is very possible. We have recorded world-wide some amazing stories of storms that have ravaged one spot and then just moved on to not even rain a drop in another place in the next town or island over.

A smirk grows on Laura’s lips, “A storm they never saw coming, seems oddly forthcoming for what is going on in the Blast from the Past tournament. I mean here you have two vets, but very similar in nature, not really sure if they could trust one another but still putting absolute faith in one another to get to a spot not many have had a chance to achieve.

Laura spins around and begins to walk away from the cliffs, the breeze pushing her long blonde hair in front of her for a moment. She quickly pulls it away and puts it up in a messy bun, “Now that Mac and I find ourselves in the next round we find ourselves in an interesting situation. On Mac’s side, he has the opportunity to dethrone the newly crowned Internet Champion, Jack Washington and on my side of the coin we have the ever favorite Bobbie Dahl. One of the fun things about this, seeing the things that my daughter has gone through in her time in SCW and while I know the times changed and her and Artie took their time away- I hope that Bobbie doesn’t think that I am going to take a swing at the low hanging fruit. I have watched some amazing talent in my time in ALL shapes and sizes achieve some amazing things.

But at the same time, I’m not about to call it here in this tournament. I believe with my whole heart that there is something special truly going on here. I honestly and truly wish that it was anyone else but you two but the way I have seen past BFTP tournaments go, it doesn’t surprise me one little bit.” her head tilts to the side, “Sometimes the storms have to collide and one moves on, while the other dissipates into the nether. Sometimes championships have to switch hands so that the former can move on to bigger and better things. Sometimes, a little of the future has to meet up with the little of the past and sometimes the past catches up and has to put the future down...if only for a short period of time.

Do you get what I am saying here?

Laura stands tall and brings her hands out to the side, “I gave up for so damn long because my past came to stop my future....it took me FIVE YEARS to get my shit straight, and during that time I have had to sit back and let others get the glory. I used to be the one that stole the glory like I was a thief in the night. I made a whole damn career out of overcoming size differences, age differences hell...I made a lot of men my own personal bitch because I got bored one Sunday and decided to put an entire company on its ear. And guess what, I paid for the mistakes...I never ran away from them. I confronted them. That’s what this whole damn thing is for me. It is a revelation that as much as it hurt at the time, as much as I left this business behind...it never left me. I am not done.

Tucking her hands into her coat, Laura smiles gently, “So Bobbie, I look forward to the fight I know you are going to bring. You have a lot riding on your shoulders here and the pressure gets greater knowing that you could be partially responsible for what happens to Jack and that championship. Just like I sorta feel that pressure as well. But I need you to understand something, and I’m sure you are well aware of this knowing my daughter...but I am far from a push over. Despite the respect, I won’t hesitate to put a boot in your face, and it is nothing personal. For me this whole damn thing with Blast from the Past...and my time that I will spend in SCW after...it’s the one thing that saved me time and time again...this business from the time I left home to train to now. It’s MY business. And you are just in it.

I hope that neither of you are afraid of the storm that is coming. And don’t worry, there will be no disappearing acts here.

The Reasons I Have
Last Saturday

I cannot stress this enough.

It’s been the better part of 5 years since I have stepped away from full-time active competition in any ring.

When I left and hung up my boots, I felt then that I had absolutely nothing left to prove. I earned my titles, I earned my Hall of Fame rings but after everything I did, there was still one very important thing left for me to do.

“Mooooooooooooooooooommy! WE’RE HOME!!!!!!!”

I missed this with Bella. I’m sure you have all heard the tale by now, from her. The most important thing came into my life, after I gave everything I could to the business that allowed me and my husband to give the best life to her and to her little brother.

Personally, I never left wrestling. I became a teacher and a mentor, giving something back to the business that gave so much to me. I also stepped into the behind the scenes, trading spandex for a business suit and high heels.

And I didn’t miss it.

Well actually no, that’s a half-truth. I didn’t miss having my life threatened, or the constant pain I was in. What I missed was the roar of the crowd, that absolute thrill of stepping between the ropes. The adrenaline rush was also something that couldn’t be achieved anywhere else.

But when it comes to bringing my son into this world and spending all that time watching him grow and learn? ...that was the biggest rush of them all.

But there are times you have to say ‘What If..?”

“Mommy! Where are you?”

“Why don’t you go check the gym, buddy?”

“Okay, daddy.”

4-year old Aaron Madison had this house on lock since he learned how to walk. He knew all the best hiding spots when he and his dad played hide and seek, to the point Nick had to call on their golden lab, Hank, to find him.

Instead, inside the gym Laura ‘Phoenix’ Madison was on her second workout of the day, something that she had adopted since she went and personally went and spoke with Mark Ward and Christian Underwood and put her name down for the Blast From The Past Tournament. Hank laid at the end of mat watching as Laura finished off a set on the heavy ropes. You could see Hank’s ears lift up at the sound of his young human’s small feet running full force down the hall means he was about to get attention.

The door cracked open to see the big brown eyes that he got from his mom and the dirty blonde that he gained from his dad peer into the room, and his adorable little face lit up at the sight of not just Hank but his mom. He carefully bounded the 3 steps, jumping big off the bottom one, only stopping for a quick moment to pat the dog on the head before running over to his mother and wrapping his little arms around his mom’s leg, catching Laura by surprise.

“Well hey there, bug!” Laura said with a genuine smile as she pulled an earbud out and reached down to pull him up to give him a kiss on his cheek.

“Ew, mommy you’re all sweaty!” Aaron giggled as he wiped his cheek with his hand, but that only lead to mock insult on Laura’s face followed up by a rain of kisses on her faces adorable face, “MOMMY!”

“Ope! Hold on I missed a spot,” Laura said, crinkling her nose only to give one on Aaron’s nose, “There we go, I think we got it covered.”

Nick had slipped his way into the room and smiled at the two of them laughing before interrupting his wife and son, “Pardon this adorable Hallmark moment but...I thought you’d be ready by now. We gotta be over at Bella’s party in like an hour.”

“Yes, I’m aware.” Laura said setting her son down to let him go over to play a bit with Hank while Laura grabs a towel, “I just wanted to get in the workout in before we head over there and stuff ourselves silly with all that wonderful food as we celebrate Mal’s birthday and we find out about our grandbaby. Trust me, babe...I have it all worked out.”

All Nick could do was shake his head, Laura’s ability to plan things out to the final minute was well passed down to Bella but Nick knew all to well what it was going to be like, “Well then, I suggest you get a move on because you know that Bella is gonna be biting at the bit.”

“Oh she already texted me...she had to force herself to sleep in.” Laura said as she dried herself off, “Okay, I’m off to get ready. 10 minutes and we’re outta here.”

She gives him a sweet kiss, “Any longer and you’re walking there.” Nick quips with a smirk as she walks away.

“And then you will deal with our very pregnant daughter and the fury.” Laura gets out before, just getting out of swinging range from Nick slapping her ass.

Later on...

Laura would stand and watch with Nick and Aaron as she found out her grandbaby was a granddaughter. Her eyes filled up with tears with happiness as her oldest baby collected her feelings with the news.

Bella spun around and spotted her mother in the group of people that had gathered, “Oh my god! MOM!!”

“I know!” Laura only got out before she got engulfed with an emotional hug from her daughter, “You okay, sweetheart?”

Bella pulled away and just nodded, “I think...maybe..”

“Let’s go sit and get a drink.” Laura said, quickly grabbing a bottle of water and leading Bella over to a seat, and handing her a drink, “There we go.”

Bella takes some good sips, “I’m sorry. Just got a little overwhelmed there for a moment.”

“It’s quite alright.” Laura said laying a gentle kiss on her daughter’s head before taking a seat next to her, and holding her hand, “It can be quite overwhelming when your whole life changes like this. You and Mal are only beginning to find out about this, and that little girl is going to be so loved. I will never stop saying how proud I am of you. The both of you.”

Bella smiles and squeezes her mom’s hand before she leans back in the chair and places a hand on her ever growing midsection, “You know when this happened, part of me actually worried for a moment if I stepped back in the middle of my career to...”

“Sweetie, listen, you have always done things your own way. Look, I know I missed a lot with you in the beginning and we’re more than friends sometimes than mother and daughter but I could never be disappointed in you. You have always carved and paved your own path even while carrying on my whole legacy and this is just another chapter for you both.”

“I hope this isn’t the reason why you decided to dust off the gear and signed up for this whole thing with SCW?” Bella said with a smirk.

Laura leaned back with a laugh, “Well, not going to lie there was a void that I saw, but after Nick officially hung it up...I don’t know just something told me that if I were to ever make a return to anything...this would be it.”

“Well, if there is anyone that I absolutely trust with you and seeing you succeed with? ....Mac Bane is a freaking beast and hungry as hell after everything.”

“Ohhhhh I’m aware, and it’s why I have been working my ass off. Trust me, girlie...I’m not going out without a fight. Gonna show a lot of people that it was like I never left.”

The women smile at one another...”OH, did I tell you we already have a name picked out for the little one?”

Ah, ah ah...not yet.

“Ok, let's see if I have this right....mixed tag...men can’t touch the women...women can’t touch the men...well that’s a pity because well hell I made a career out of making a lot of men my bitch.”

Laura Phoenix steps into the shot with a smile.

“But that’s not what this is about, this is something completely different. You see, this to me is an opportunity to really see if my size 8’s can indeed still knock some teeth loose. And I have found myself sitting rather pretty for a moment and my GOD could you imagine what this could do?”

With a shake of her head she takes a deep breath.

“Look, Mac...in this I got your back. You will never have to question that. We are ride and die til the bitter end and I’m looking forward to every damn moment of it. I know you got your side of things”

Her brown eyes shine.

“As for Wilma, look, not going to lie...I know ZILCH about you and that right there tells me all I need to know. My whole career is an open book and I’m not going to hesitate. I learned from day one what happens if you do...that lesson was the hardest thing that one ever has to go through. You hesitate with me....I’m going to make sure this is the shortest time in any BFTP match in history.”

“DOUBT ME! I FUCKING DARE YOU!”
