 Keira had been itching to get to work with me, and honestly, I was apprehensive. I know Keira is a capable fighter, but she’s not as skilled as I am. I just don’t want her to go into any given situation with overconfidence because she got accepted into the guild. That sash gave her a seemingly unlimited amount of energy and through her initial training at the guild, it provided multiple uses to her. Now I fear she would use it as a crutch instead of an asset.
I’ve been trying to teach her that this is about brains over brawn, tactics and strategy, but she seems really focused on just fighting. And sex. Like a lot.

It’s almost like she becomes a different person once she puts that costume on. Maybe it’s the skin tight spandex, or the leather, I don’t know.  But she makes it very hard to do our job when all she wants to do is seemingly have sex in costume. But I’m trying to make her focus.

Tonight’s a big night, and we can’t afford to get distracted.

Here goes nothing.

{Roxi and Keira sit on a rooftop, overlooking the First National Bank. Keira lounges lazily, as Roxi piers through Binoculars.}

Keira – This is so boring. What supposed to happen?

Roxi – Hopefully nothing.

Keira – That’s stupid. How am I supposed to be your partner if there’s no crime to fight?

{Roxi looks away from the binoculars and looks at Keira}

Roxi – This isn’t a game Keira. Its serious business. Allen told us Jersey Joe would come back here and try to rob it. We’re looking to make sure that doesn’t happen.

Keira – Allen would have told us anything the way you roughed him up like that.

Roxi – It’s called intimidation. I lean on him, his gives us information.

Keira – Well, so far, all his information seems to be a big lie. How much longer are we going to be up here?

Roxi – It’s a stakeout Keira, it lasts as long as it needs to.

{Roxi turns back and looks through the binoculars as Keira stands up.}

Keira – But there’s got to be SOME kind of crime we can fight!

Roxi – Not at the moment. Police band is all quiet.

Keira – Ugh. What’s the point of getting all dressed up, if there’s no one to fight?

Roxi – It’s like that sometimes Keira. But we still have to do it.

Keira – I really hope every night isn’t this lame.

{Roxi holds up her hand as there is movement where she is looking Keira curiously walks over and crouches down next to her.}

Keira – What is it?

Roxi – Could be our guy and his boys.

Keira – Ugh. Finally.

Roxi – Alright. That’s them.

Keira – Great! Let’s go!

{Keira energetically moves towards the edge of the building, but Roxi snatches her back, spinning her around to face her.}

Roxi – Listen to me Keira, This is serious. We are not about to go charging in head first. We will pick the right moment, and then we will take them down, quickly, quietly, and without creating a scene.

Keira – What’s problem Rox? You can heal, I have an energy sash. We should be going down there and bust some heads.

Roxi – That’s not the point. If you want to survive down there, you can’t be careless. I cannot lose you on your first assignment!

{Keira smiles and rubs Roxi’s face.}

Keira – Aww…you’re so sexy when you’re angry.

{Roxi forcefully pushes Keira’s hand away.}

Roxi – Not now.

Keira – Spoiled sport.

Roxi – Let’s go.

Keira – Sure thing, boss.

{Roxi glares at Keira as she follows Roxi and they move into position.}

Roxi – Alright, on my mark. 3…

Keira – 2..1!

Roxi – Wait!

{It’s too late as Keira jumps off the roof, her energy sash forming a shield to protect her from any damage. She lands and smiles as the three men turn around to see her.}

Keira – I don’t think you boys should be doing that.

Jersey Joe – Finish with that door, we’ll take care of her.

Henchmen – Got it.

{The other henchman and Jersey Joe begin circling Keira, and then rush her at the same time, both armed with crowbars. Keira puts the energy shield up, and holds a defensive position, as the two pound away with their weapons, not doing any damage as the shield holds.

Keira – ANY…TIME…NOW…

Roxi – *Sigh* We wouldn’t be in this mess if you had just listened.

{Keira forcefully pushes away and Jersey Joe and his henchman are sent flying. Keira looks annoyed as she stands pummeling the henchman and Joe at will. Meanwhile, the other henchman has pried the door open. Joe looks at him.}

Jersey Joe – Go! Get the money! Block the door!

Keira – Oh no you don’t!

{Keira stands to make a move towards the third man, but Joe tackles her. In the few moments she did not have her shield up, Joe managed to crack her in the ankle with the crowbar. Keira let out a yelp, but got the shield back up to avoid any more damage. Joe and the other henchman continue to try and break her energy shield, but she holds it up. They continue to hammer her with their crowbars.}

Roxi – I think you’ve learned your lesson.

{Roxi jumps off, landing on the ground and moving forward, she quickly extends her staff and begins running towards Joe and his henchman. Joe notices her out of the corner of his eye.}

Jersey Joe – Lady Bedlam!

Keira – (Whispering) About time.

{Roxi instantly nails the henchman in the face with her staff. She looks down at Keira, before turning back to Joe. Joe turns to run, but Roxi takes out her bolas and snares Joe by the ankles. He trips, and falls down, as Roxi looks at Keira.}

Roxi – Are you okay?

Keira – Peachy. My ankle is pretty messed up, but I’ll manage. You have to get that last guy.

Roxi – Stay here. Watch these two. If anything happens, yell.

Keira – Sure thing.

{The third henchman has blocked the back door with a shelf, not allowing Roxi access. Roxi uses her staff and pushes the shelf blocking the door out of the way. She enters, and the henchman sees her, and tries to run, allowing for Roxi to catch him and tackle him to the ground. With all the commotion going on the inside, Keira gets up and starts limping to try and help.  She pushes through the shelf, and limps towards Roxi and the Henchman.}

Roxi – What are you – Ugh!

{The Henchman gets a sucker shot in and shoulders open the front door, sounding the alarm. He runs away, having not gained any money, as a car pulls up, and he gets in, and escapes. Roxi shakes off the shot, and goes over to Keira and offers her a shoulder. Roxi leads her back outside, and Jersey Joe and the other henchman are gone as well.}

Roxi – Dammit.

Keira – Guess we kinda screwed that up.

{Roxi glares at Keira. The scene fades.}

I’m not angry at Keira, I’m more disappointed than anything. She did exactly what I was afraid she’d do. I tried to tell her there’s a way to go about things, and a way not to go about things. I tried, but she didn’t listen. She relied on that shield, and the one moment she didn’t have it up, she got whacked.  I didn’t intend for that to happen. It may serve as a valuable lesson for her.

But then again, it probably won’t.

All in all, I can’t call this first assignment a success, but it wasn’t total failure. We did foil the bank robbery, we just didn’t catch the bad guys. As I said, it’s more frustrating than maddening.

But I do see the potential in Keira, she handled herself about like I expected her to.

But that’s no excuse for not listening.

{We’re back in Roxi’s apartment, sometime later. Keira now has an ice pack on her ankle, and sits in a chair, while Roxi stands next to her with her arms folded.}
Roxi – What you did tonight was dangerous and stupid.

Keira – I said I was sorry.

Roxi – Now you see what happens when you rush into things.

Keira – We stopped the robbery didn’t we?

Roxi – Maybe, but if you had just listened to me, we’d of caught Joe and his men too.

Keira – I know. I guess I got little excited.

Roxi – No, you deliberately did what I said not to.

Keira – I don’t need a lecture right now.

Roxi – Yes you do. This is the result of you not taking this seriously.

Keira – I took it seriously! I stopped those two guys, you got the third guy. If I hadn’t gotten whacked in the ankle, none of this would matter.

Roxi – If you had done what I told you, you wouldn’t have gotten hit. That’s the object of what we do Keira. Recklessness will get you hurt.

Keira – Yeah? And where were you when I was fighting three men all alone?

Roxi – I was waiting for the opportunity to strike. And when it was correct, I did. Not to mention it may have taught you a lesson.

Keira – You let them attack me?

Roxi – You wanted to be the big hero, now you see what it’s like.

Keira – Roxi, I said I was sorry all the way back here. Next time we’ll do better.

Roxi – WE’LL do better? If it hadn’t been for me, you might have had worse done to you. And if you had stayed where I told you to, we would have got all 3 of them despite your recklessness.

Keira – Okay, I GOT IT! I SHOULD HAVE LISTENED TO YOU!

{Roxi walks over to the laptop, she puts it under her arm.}

Roxi – I’m going to file our report. If you need anything, let me know.

Keira – Whatever.

{Roxi walks into the next room, powers up the laptop, and writes up the report of the events. She sends them in, and Vision pops up on the screen.}

Vision – Rox.

Roxi – Hey Vision.

Vision – I got the report here, not bad for the first time ‘eh?

Roxi – She’s reckless. She’s going to get herself seriously injured if she keeps this up.

Vision – Oh?

Roxi – She just doesn’t listen to reason. It’s like she’s way too eager to prove herself. I don’t know if this was such a good idea.

Vision – Wait, are YOU trying to tell me that someone is reckless?

Roxi – Are you insinuating that I am reckless?

Vision – You were. You’re exactly like she is right now.

Roxi – I am not. I wasn’t anything like her.

Vision – Rox, do I have to read back reports that people sent in about you? You charged in head first to every situation.

Roxi – I didn’t have the guidance she does.

Vision – I warned you countless times…

Roxi – Shut up. It’s not the same.

Vision – Or, is it exactly the same?

Roxi – …

Vision – Cut her some slack. You rushed into a hail of gunfire numerous times.

Roxi – I can heal from that kind of stuff, it’s different.

Vision – You did that kind of stuff before you got that serum. You were the most reckless hero we’ve ever had. You drove people crazy doing what you used to do.

Roxi – …

Vision – Face it Rox, you’re trying to teach yourself. I mean, would you have listened to you the way you sounded just now?
Roxi – *sigh* I suppose not.

Vision – Then maybe you should lighten up a little.

Roxi – But after what happened before, I just don’t want to lose her.

Vision – Did you ever think you’re going to drive a wedge between you guys in you keep doing this?

Roxi – She knows I’m just trying to help.

Vision – Does she? Or does she think you’re being an overprotective mother?

Roxi – Alright, alright. I’ll go talk to her.

Vision – Good. Hate to see the team break up this early.

Roxi – Thanks Vision.

Vision – Anytime.

Roxi – And…for the record, I wasn’t that bad.

{Vision picks up a stack of paper and begins reading it.”}

Vision – “Lady Bedlam charged with no powers or clear strategy. It is unclear whether or not she’s either the bravest, or most insane member of the team.”

{Roxi slams the laptop down and walks out the bedroom door, and sits down next to Keira.}

Keira – What’s wrong? Find something else to yell at me about?

Roxi – No. I…I actually want to apologize.

Keira – For what?

Roxi – I…I should have helped you sooner. We need to work as a team, and I was so upset that I let my emotions get the best of me.

Keira – …

Roxi – I was like you a long time ago. I was care-free and ready to take on the world.

Keira – What happened?

Roxi – A lot.

Keira – If this is another lecture about responsibility, count me out.

{Keira stares at Roxi for a moment, then turns towards the window. Roxi sees that Keira is visibly angry, so Roxi turns away from her and shrugs.}

Roxi – I…I just…I don’t want to see you get hurt. And now I feel like I failed because you did. I don’t want to lose anyone else.

{Keira turns back towards Roxi.}

Keira – Anyone else?

Roxi – Before you, there was Claire, before Claire, there was Clint. I’ve lost a partner, and a friend. Now you’re both in one. Hell, more than that.  That’s why this is so hard.

Keira – I…I never knew.

Roxi – Now you know. If it seems like I’m being too hard on you, that’s why. I CANNOT lose you.

Keira – … I’m…really sorry.

{Roxi turns back to Keira and shrugs.}

Roxi – Just…listen to me next time, okay?

Keira – I will.

Roxi – How’s the ankle?

Keira – It feels a little better.

Roxi – Can you walk on it?

Keira – I’ll try.

{Roxi helps Keira up and Keira is obviously much better as she is able to walk without much of a limp.}

Roxi – Looks better.

Keira – Feels better.

Roxi – You up for another patrol?

Keira – You want to go out again?

Roxi – A hero’s work is never done.

Keira – It’s not another stakeout is it?

Roxi – If it is, I’m sure we can find another way to pass the time.

{Keira looks up at the winking Roxi.}

Keira – I feel a lot better now.

Roxi – Then let’s go.

{Roxi slides her mask over her face, and heads out the window, with Keira not far behind.}

We may have gotten off to a rocky start, but we’re going to get there. Much like SCW a couple of weeks ago. I knew I was an underdog going in, not quite up the where I should be, and boy did it show against Emma Rose. Not making excuses, Emma kicked my butt. The only thing to do from here is move on to the next challenge, the next fight and the next opponents.

That brings me to Jade and Cynthia Warren.

I’ve see Cindy work her butt off in the ring at times, and then at times I see her being very lazy. I just hope she’s actually preparing for this match and ready to show up. I know how talented she is, and how much she loves wrestling, so it’s actually kind of odd to see this much inconsistency from her. But if she doesn’t want to take this match seriously, she’s definitely going to lose. I hope she hears me and gets inspired, but I can only do so much. In the end, if she doesn’t want to get up for this match, she’ll just be another stepping stone for people who have more drive than she does. I mean, she’s a nurse. She helps people, you’d think she’d be determined to further her career by gaining victories. Perhaps she’ll figure out that she wants to just continue to be a nurse. Either way, I support what she does, but I can’t get behind the inconsistent work ethic. She’s letting her talents go to waste.

Actually, now that I think about it, I wouldn’t want to go to a nurse that sometimes feels like doing her job. Seems like a poor choice. So, I hope she’s not as lazy at the nurse thing as she is as a wrestler. I wish her luck anyway though.

And that brings me to Jade. She’s quite impressive, I must say. Only one loss in her entire SCW career is something to be proud of. Granted, it’s only been like 5 matches, but to 90% is pretty darned good. And as much as I hate to do it, I’m looking forward to bringing that number down a little. Jade asked for a challenge, so who am I to deny her. Though, I intend to make it more than just a challenge. I want it to be a challenge that she can’t overcome. Just a little bit too much for her. I’m not going out there to embarrass or hurt anybody, just to get myself back on the right track. And that means I have to beat Jade as well as Cindy. I see both of these ladies as superb challenges, but I’d be lying if I said I was super concerned. Jade is obviously ready for a fight, She’s still smarting from her only loss. I see that it drives her, it makes her upset. And as much as I’d hate to upset people, I have a Bombshell’s title to win back. And that starts with a loss for you Jade.

My apologies ladies, but the fact of the matter is, I may have gotten off to a rocky start with Emma, but I’m still on the path to get the bombshell’s title back, and that leads through right where you’re standing.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, the world needs saving. See you both Sunday.
