It was good to be back home in the states..course when word got out that I had to go back to Vegas for my title match, my brother just had to come with me and Geoff. Geoff was my image consultant after all so I understood him being with me for this event..but my brother just had to tag along because he loves Vegas. We rode in the car under the bright lights of the various buildings.

Charles Hawkins: I can't believe we're here! Viva Las Vegas!

Griffin Hawkins: Jeez man, you're like a little kid...

Charles Hawkins: How can you not be excited to be in Sin City?

Griffin Hawkins: Probably because I've been here...many times...

Charles Hawkins: You're crazy fro not taking advantage of all the places here...the slots, the strip clubs, it's like an adult version of Candyland!

Geoff Matthens: If you can just relax for a minute, you need to remember why we're really here. Well..why you're here. Griffin has a title rematch and we can't let anything distract us.

Griffin Hawkins: Damn right...we're gonna find a gym, we're gonna train and I'm gonna be ready for the match.

Charles Hawkins: Work Work Work...is that all you care about Griff? You used to be fun! When was the last time you took time out to yourself to relax?

Griffin Hawkins: Look, after I win, we'll have plenty of time to hit the slots. For now, it's time to focus.

Course in looking for a gym, it got pretty crowded. The traffic was backed up for a quite a way.
Before I could say anything..we both were interrupted by the sound of a door slamming shut. We both looked to where Charles was originally sitting..only to see he was no longer there.

Griffin Hawkins: ....Ah damn it....

Chances are he made off into the Casino. This was gonna be a long night...

-----------------------------------------------

As soon as we got inside, I noticed the whole place lit up like it's the fourth of July. I looked around for Charles, but I couldn't find him.

Griffin Hawkins: He's gotta be here somewhere..

Geoff Matthens: He's here, just follow the sounds of chips being laid down..or quarters going into slot machines....how many games does he play anyway?

Griffin Hawkins: Just about all of them..dude's an equal opportunity gambler.

Geoff Matthens: Christ..it's gonna be harder to find than a needle in a haystack. Let's just keep our eyes open.

Griffin Hawkins: Man..this blows. I just wanted to go to a gym and train..and now I gotta babysit my brother and keep him from going off the rails. At this rate, I'm gonna lose the title because I came unprepared.

Geoff Matthens: Unprepared? You've already beaten him for the title..I'd say you got the advantage..you studied him well and you won, what is it you're worried about?

Griffin Hawkins: You don't get it...at this point he is desperate. He's been doing a lot of talking about how he represents that belt and whatnot..and now that he's lost it..he's willing to do everything to get it back.

Geoff Matthens: Well you don't have to go to the gym to prepare..look around you, you can prepare here.

Griffin Hawkins: I fail to figure out how a game of blackjack has to do with the match at hand...

Geoff Matthens: Look, I may not have been in the ring like you have, but even I know this is a mental game. Right now you got the mental advantage..but you can't allow it
to make you too over confident.

He motions to a man playing a game of roulette.

Geoff Matthens: See that guy there? There's one like that in every casino. They don't quit while they're ahead. Look at all the money he has.

Griffin Hawkins: But Lady Luck could be on his side.

Geoff Matthens: Just watch...

We look on as the man tells him the number is...18. He lost. We watch as he dejectedly walks away.

Geoff Matthens: See? At any given moment, your luck could run out. Sure, you're champion now, but if you're not careful, you could lose it back to Travis just as quick as you won it

We make our way over to the slot machines.

Geoff Matthens: Your favorite and mine..the slots. Once you win some..you can't stop and you're determined to play more, even if you lose.

We see the woman put the Quarter in....Jackpot, she wins! The sirens go off as people are cheering her on.

Griffin Hawkins: She...won?

Geoff Matthens: She won because she took a chance..just like you did against Levitt. No matter what happens, keep fighting until you're the last man standing.

We then hear the sounds of Charles..over at the craps table, shaking the dice.

Charles Hawkins: Come on..baby needs a new pair of shoes!

We both grab him.

Griffin Hawkins: Okay Diamond Joe, it's time for us to get out of here.

Charles Hawkins: What?! Come on, I'm on a roll!

We drag him away as he is begging us to let him stay and play. While he was gambling with his money, I was gambling with something much bigger.

------------------------------------------------

The cameras open up in everyone's favorite place...the casino. Everyone is playing games like Blackjack, hitting the slots, some playing Craps and Five Card Stud. I enter the room dressed in a long black sleeve shirt and matching dress pants. The Roulette Title is around my shoulder as I look around, dark sunglasses covering my eyes as I make my way through this busy room.

"Ah...Las Vegas...Sin City. The Entertainment Capital of the World. Many come here to try their chances. Some are successful...and others fail and go home empty handed. Last time I wrestled here, I was victorious..and now I come home with some gold around my shoulder. But some are coming into the City of Lights with nothing, yet they are willing to bet it all. Travis Levitt..the man I defeated for this title decided to exercise his rematch clause already and wants his title back. I'm a fighting champion..so I say..step on up to the table."

I begin to walk past the craps table as many are rolling dice.

"Travis..heh...last time we spoke, you said that I was an old relic..and that the business has passed me by. Well, how does it feel to lose to an alleged old relic? You said that I don't got what it takes to reach the next level and grab the brass ring. The belt I carry right now says otherwise. This Roulette Title is proof that I am still the fastest gun in the west..and if you need more proof, need I remind you who was it that tapped out in the middle of the ring when I slapped on Lucky 13? It was you."

If I knew anything, Travis was more desperate than ever.

"It seems that since you've lost the title Travis...nobody had really heard from you. Not even on social media..just radio silence. No interviews, no tweets. I even congratulated you for giving me the match of my life...but no replies. Why is that? I don't think you were embarrassed..you're not the type that refuses to show his face after one loss. But the question is...will you be there? Because I will be there."

I go over to the slot machines where a woman is putting her quarters in.

"When I came back to this company months ago...I bet everything on my comeback. I said from the beginning that I was coming back to pick up where I left off..and winning this Roulette Belt was further proof of that. I told you before Travis that this was just business..not personal. You stood in my way of reaching the top, and I had to do everything in my power to move past you and further stake my claim as the greatest athlete in Sin City Wrestling history. And now...you are the one chasing me. Are you bad enough to take what's mine? Come and prove it."

I readjust the belt on my shoulder as I walk towards the other games.

"Wanna know the most interesting part Travis? This could be any kind of match. That's the best part of this very belt..you never know in what kind of match we'll face off in. At London Brawling II we fought in a Submission Match where I made you tap out. Who's to say we won't get the same match? Or who knows...we may get a ladder match, a last man standing match, a steel cage match...or a street fight. Last time I was here in Vegas, I was kicking Steve Ramone's ass all over Sin City..who knows, we may get a sequel of that this Sunday! The possibilities are endless Travis. I suggest you be ready. Because if you blow this rematch, you'll have to go to the back of line while the next contender takes your spot."

I walk away from the table and come to what looks to be people playing Poker.

"Ah Poker..a game where you have to keep your wits about you. If you're not gonna play with a full deck, your chances of winning aren't worth Jack. See Travis, at London Brawling II, I was dealt a good hand...a winning hand. Could say it was a Royal Flush. And now you're back again...willing to bet the house on this important match. If you lose again...you'll leave Vegas a broken and beaten man. If you win, you'll right the wrong at the last event as a two time Roulette Champion. But the competitor in me just won't allow that to happen Travis. Because I won this title fair and square, and I will do anything to keep it. Don't consider it personal..but I have no alternative but to beat the holy fucking fuck out of you."

As expected, the poor guy loses. I continue on as I walk away from him.

"You were right about one thing Travis. The both of us got a huge chip on our shoulder, me especially. See, last time I was here, I had aspirations of becoming Sin City Wrestling World Heavyweight Champion..but as fate would have it, the company folded, dashing my dreams against the rocks. Now that I am back, I am resuming my mission to make it to the top of Sin City..and in my fourth match in the company, I captured my second title ever. You could say I am on a tear..."

I look closely at the camera.

"But in a city like this..everything can change. You can go from the biggest winner...to the biggest loser. You have a chance to win it all. Time will tell whether you win big...or crap out. Either way...the City of Sin...is gonna get rocked."

I walk away from the shot as the camera crew wrap things up.

Climax Control Archives / Face Your Fear
« on: April 19, 2019, 10:35:38 PM »
If I wanted to be prepared for Anthrax, I had to  prepare for the experience. This dude had a reputation a mile wide, built on mind games. So one night, me and my brother went to a haunted house attraction one night. We were prepared to face this fear head on...well, I was anyway

Charles Hawkins: I can't believe you dragged me all the way to this place..it gives me the creeps!

Griffin Hawkins: Dude you're my big bro..you're supposed to be the braver of the two.

Charles Hawkins: That doesn't shake my fear of clowns.

Griffin Hawkins: Dude come on...clowns are funny!

Charles Hawkins: Not to me they are..nothing worse than a couple of goofs dressed in makeup blowing balloons..how is this gonna help you prepare for that Insane Clown Posse reject on Sunday?

Griffin Hawkins: I'm up against Anthrax..one of the sickest individuals in SCW today, if I wanna beat him, I gotta be ready mentally.

Charles Hawkins: So why am I here?

Griffin Hawkins: Moral support bro...we gotta stick together!

Charles Hawkins: The things I do for you....

Griffin Hawkins: Come on man..let's go!

We opened the doors and walked in...prepared to come face to face with our worst fear.

--------------------------------------------------

\'user

This was not something I was looking forward to...but it had to be done. We walked through the halls of this twisted house of horrors with flashlights in our hands.

Griffin Hawkins: Man...this is creepy as hell. It's like Count Dracula's Alma Matter. Kinda makes you wish you got out more often huh?

Charles Hawkins: I'd rather be on vacation in Hawaii than this place...

Griffin Hawkins: Come on man, a few throw pillows and a TV and this place will look like home!

Charles Hawkins: You are so not funny..

The sound of tapping is heard which causes us both to jump.

Griffin Hawkins: Holy crap that was insane!

Charles Hawkins: It was just tapping....and you expect to beat this Anthrax guy?

We then hear the sounds of high pitched laughter.

Griffin Hawkins: And what do you call that? Just the wind?

Charles Hawkins: It could be automated...at least I hope it's automated...

As we head down the halls we see doors shaking, almost opening. Not wanting to stick around to see what's behind them, we run past them. We then see what looks to be a Clown standing still.

Griffin Hawkins: It's probably just a statue...

I inch my way closer...and suddenly it waves at me.

Griffin Hawkins: Jesus Christ!

It then motions for us to go further down the corridor.

Charles Hawkins: See, this is why you're unprepared for Anthrax. You just jump the minute a clown shows his face. You can't let your fears get the best of you..or else he's gonna beat you in that ring.

Griffin Hawkins: I'm trying hard..but this place is scary!

Charles Hawkins: So is being in the ring...we have nothing to fear but fear itself.

Griffin Hawkins: Whoever said that never been in here.

The clown continues to follow us, as if he's making sure we go the right way. I look back to him.

Griffin Hawkins: Do you happen to know The Metal Maniacs?...

He says nothing as he leads us forward. We then go to a large room where there are two more clowns..one tall, one big. They startle us as they point to the far end of the hallway. It looked to be the exit. As we went to the back exit, we found ourselves outside the haunted house.

Charles Hawkins: So..how was that?

Griffin Hawkins: Kinda scary...but actually fun.

Charles Hawkins: Does it give you any piece of mind about facing Anthrax?

Griffin Hawkins: Actually...yeah. On the outside he is scary..but inside he's as human as you and me. If he can bleed...he can be beaten.

Charles Hawkins: So we can go home now?...

Griffin Hawkins: Honestly...all this stuff about clowns has got me in the mood to see more. We're going to the Circus!

Charles Hawkins: You've got to be kidding me...

Griffin Hawkins: Hey, this time it'll be for fun!

We get in the car and drive away. I think I finally was in the right place mentally to face Anthrax...for I had a hard battle ahead of me.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Cameras open to what's left of the circus. I'm sitting in the stands, dressed in blue ripped jeans and a Metallica "Damage Inc" T-Shirt. I eat what's left of my Popcorn and throw the bag away.

"When I was a kid...I used to love the Circus. My Mom would take me there every time they came to town. I'd sit in this seat and eat some Cotton Candy while there would be acrobats, Lion tamers, and of course....clowns that would entertain me. But as I grew older...I started to realize the sad truth about the Circus. And the truth is that once you get past the novelty of the clowns and the bearded lady...it gets old REALLY quick. Well, the freak show known as The Metal Manaics are no different. They are still here..buzzing around SCW, thinking they can instill fear into those who fear them. This week...I take on everyone's favorite clown..Anthrax. A man who is known for playing mind games....even though a lot of times they don't work..."

I can't help but laugh...who did this guy think he was dealing with?

"Anthrax...so we meet at last. Unfortunately for me you're nowhere associated with the actual band Anthrax, but from what I have seen...you are pretty scary. Somewhere in that twisted little mind..you're actually a decent wrestler. But as I have also seen, your win loss record is...not so good. In fact you haven't really won any matches and neither have your comrades as of late. So now...we go up against one another. Finally you crawled out from whatever rock you've been hiding under and decide to show yourself and FINALLY get a victory..."

I shake my head in disappointment, seen it all from guys like this before.

"You have such a reputation of being crazy...being not all there. And you've done a lot to make people afraid of you. You and those girls you hang with make a dangerous trio. So why am I not afraid of your wrath? Because I know your type enough to know that all this is a smoke screen. You obviously aren't smart like Kedron Williams. Oh yeah..I called him smart because he thought he could intimidate me with all those threats about slaughtering me and I made him tap out..and he's stayed away from me since, knowing I'm smart to his games. So for that, he has brains. You on the other hand Anthrax, you're as dumb as a stump and twice as ugly. You make the same mistake every time cutting all these spooky promos..thinking it'll intimidate your opponent. Look at the people you've been in the ring with..Calvin Harris...Ben Jordan...and many others. You tried to play the sick games you and your crew like to play..but they eventually saw through it and they beat you...just like I will."

I slowly rise up, stepping off the benches.

"Hell, many are calling me crazy for accepting this match. A lot have been telling me...dude are you crazy? This guy is a fucking nutjob! Why did I accept?...because I don't fear you. I don't care how many asylums you've been locked in...how many people you've scared out of this company...I'm looking to prove that I am the rightful contender for the Roulette Title. I'll walk through hellfire barefoot if I have to...I'll go through you if I have to. Many are saying that I should've chosen a different opponent this week after Josha Acquin couldn't make it...but when they told me I'd be facing you, I got excited. Because I wanna see if you deserve to have such a bitchin' name. I wanna see if you deserve the right to wear such scary looking makeup and run around like it's Halloween already. More importantly, I want to see if you live up to your reputation in that very ring."

I put my hands in my pockets, walking along as the camera man follows me.

"The one thing you seem to thrive off Anthrax...it's fear. But if you look at me, you'll see that I have no fear for a man like you. There are only two things I fear in this world...Nuclear War, and the Taxman. You're nowhere near as scary as them. I'm not afraid of some grown man running around dressing up like a hobo, wearing more makeup than all the Bombshells combined. Why don't I fear you? Because I've been through it all, I've been fighting on the streets since I was a kid, sleeping in dumpsters, spending winter in the cold, losing the only family I ever known. I've been all over the world wrestling and I've been in the ring with them all. I've been busted open, tossed off cages, thrown through tables...I've been through things that would make you cry like a little girl. What more can you do to me that hasn't been done already Anthrax? If you think for one minute that I'm gonna just quake in my boots at the sight of you, then you my friend are one bearded lady short of a freak show."

I then look at my watch.

"The time is nearly here Anthrax...you and me one on one in that ring. The time is now..for you to be afraid of what I could do to you. Oh yes..I got a big surprise coming for you clown boy. It's time for you to make a career decision...you either curl up into a ball, and high tail it back to whatever sick decrepit place that you call home, or you face the music..live with the humiliation that the so called most feared man in SCW today, is nothing but a fraud. Because once that bell rings, all the parlor tricks...all the dr.seuss nursery rhymes that you like to pop off at the mouth about week after week...won't save your painted ass."

Cracking my neck a little, I look towards the exit of the tent.

"See Anthrax...the jokes are over..no more fun and games. You and me one on one. Remember Pennywise right?...how big and scary he was? He stuck fear in all of the heroes of the story. But everyone knows what happened at the end. They faced their fear...and beat him not once...but twice. Now me...I don't have a slingshot...but all I need are these two fists, and they will proceed to make you even uglier than you are now. Every show has to come to an end. Mine is just getting started...and yours is about to have the curtain dropped on it. Be ready for the Jukebox Hero....be ready to fall. It's time for this Freakshow...to get rocked."

I go towards the exit and walk out as the camera crew pack up everything.

Usually when my brother comes over, we like to hang out. We play video games, gather my friends up to play some street hockey or a game of football, or watch some movies on the big screen. I on the other hand was focused on other things. While he was watching the Las Vegas Knights score goals...I was reading an MMA Magazine. Once they scored, he jumped right off the couch.

Charles Hawkins: Yeah! That's how you handle business! Did you see that shot?!

I didn't really look at the game.

Griffin Hawkins: Yeah..pretty badass.

Charles Hawkins: What's with you Griff? You've had your nose in that book since the game started, come on, live a little!

Griffin Hawkins: Sorry to break it to you bro, but I'm not much of a fan of the Knights, more of a Senators person.

Charles Hawkins: My God, you have the WORST taste in Hockey teams ever.
Why are you reading that book anyway?

Griffin Hawkins: I'm going up against Jake Raab, a mixed martial arts fighter from Germany. I was reading this article before you interrupted me by jumping up and down like a god damn maniac.

Charles Hawkins: Let me see that.

I hand him the magazine as he looks things over, his stats and quotes.

Charles Hawkins: Hmm, not bad...German badass. Looks like he can give you a run for your money.

Griffin Hawkins: Well, that's up in the air. He hasn't been looking all that good lately. But he's a MMA Fighter, he can get me with any hold.

Charles Hawkins: Well have you been training?

Griffin Hawkins: Of course I have. I train every day.

Charles Hawkins: I don't mean that kind of training you goof..the type of training MMA guys go through.

Griffin Hawkins: Erm...no?

Charles: Hoo boy...we got a lot to work with. Alright, get your ring gear on and meet me in the car in an hour..we got work to do.

I didn't understand what he wanted from me, but I figure why not. If I want to beat Raab, I have to train hard..even though I don't know how I'm going to..

------------------------------------------

We officially arrived at the Cobra Clutch Arena where all the fighters were training. Some were in the ring while others were training and others were sparring. Not just men, but women as well.

Charles Hawkins: Here we are!

Griffin Hawkins: Wow, it's a full house today.

Charles Hawkins: Hey you gotta stay ready. Everyone wants to be the next Connor McGregor or Randy Couture.

Griffin Hawkins: So they're gonna start throwing Garbage Cans at people like Connor?..

Charles Hawkins: When they hit it big..THEN they'll start with the senseless destruction. Anyways, we need to get you in the right mindset. This Jake Raab guy is somebody who knows 50 million ways to separate your arm from the rest of your body. So this to happen. We gotta get you prepared.

Griffin Hawkins: I keep telling you I don't need this kind of training. I know three years of Jiu Jitsu.

Charles Hawkins: I don't care what religion you are, we need to get you ready! And I think I know just the guy...

I look and see a black man with a mohawk hitting the heavy sandbags. His body had tattoos all over, looking like a true UFC badass.

Charles Hawkins: Just the guy!

Griffin Hawkins: Dude..that's Bones Jackson, that guy is a killer!

Charles Hawkins: Yeah, but you could take him. Excuse me Bones, my little brother would like to spar with you.

The man looks to me.

Bones Jackson: Sure...why not?

Hoo boy this is not good. He steps into the Octagon as I follow, I'm being handed gloves as we begin....we touch gloves and circle one another. I go fro a strike, but of course he dodges and punches me right in the face as it just goes from there as I am being beaten into a corner. Charles is cringing.

Charles Hawkins: Oooooh...that's gonna leave a mark.

He pulls back as we go at it again, I go for another and then I get taken down by the legs and beaten like a Dog...this is not the type of training I had in mind. After he let up, I can still hear my brother's words of "encouragement".

Charles Hawkins: You got him on the ropes bro, keep at it!

It feels almost as if he's getting some kind of sick thrill out of me getting my ass kicked. This one sided fight went on for a while until Jackson stops...I'm nearly out of it as I try to stand.

Bones Jackson: Hey kid...you alright?

Griffin Hawkins: I'm fine...I'll get you....all three of you...

Bones Jackson: Clearly..you're in over your head. Why are you here?

Griffin Hawkins: Training...Jake Raab...

Bones Jackson: You're a wrestler aren't you?

Griffin Hawkins: Yeah...how'd you know?

Bones Jackson: You think you're the first wrestler to try and make a transition to Ultimate Fighting? Listen..you can't try and do somebody else's style. You gotta do your own. It'd be like if I woke up one morning and decided I wanted to be a marine biologist.

Griffin Hawkins: I know a guy who did that....

Bones Jackson: The point is..just stick to your own style and you can't lose. Otherwise you're gonna get your ass whooped six ways to Sunday.

Finally someone who agreed with me! This MMA stuff isn't me..I'm a wrestler and nothing more.

Griffin Hawkins: Listen..as soon as I recover from this beat down...would you like to come over the house sometime to watch some Hockey?

He smiled at me, I guess I earned his respect.

Bones Jackson: It'd be my pleasure.

Charles helps me as I stumble out of the ring.

Charles Hawkins: You okay man?..

Griffin Hawkins: ...remind me to kill you later..

He escorts me out of the arena. I may have gotten my bell rung...but in a way I learned something. Hopefully it'll carry me to victory over Raab.

--------------------------------------------

The cameras open in what looks to be the Octagon. There are cameras inside the cage, and outside the cage. I sit against the bars, dressed in street clothes consisting of blue ripped jeans and a Black Sabbath ringer tee. I look up at the camera man, eyes masked by Silver Aviator shades.

"Here I am once again ladies and gentlemen..The Jukebox Hero, Griffin Hawkins. I am in what is an unfamiliar territory....an MMA ring. Now, usually this isn't my style. I never ventured into one of these because I am more comfortable in a wrestling ring. Bashing people with chairs, piledriving them through the mat, throwing them through tables, it's how I make my living. But it looks as if my opponent is quite different. Jake Raab, a guy straight out of the Octagon who is making the transition into wrestling. He's not the first to do so..some have succeeded..while others have failed. Can Jake Raab be successful as his cousin?..."

I smile, using the chain links to pull myself up.

"Jake Raab....this is actually the first time I am facing a member of your illustrious family. I've heard the stories about your cousin, and how he was a champion here in Sin City in the past. But it seems as of late you are....falling short of living up to the previous success of Lord Raab. You've been given many...many chances at Championship gold...but you continue to fall way...way short. It seems as if you are destined to remain a contender for the rest of your time. Always a bridesmaid but never a bride...that seems to be the story of your career. Sure...you almost win it like you did in the Fatal Four Way for the World Heavyweight Title, but almost only counts in horse shoes and hand grenades. Now here we stand, you're facing a future champion with aspirations of winning Roulette Gold. But let's say you do by some miracle beat me..."

I walk across the ring with my hand in my pockets.

"You'd be given once again ANOTHER opportunity at a title, another one you'd once again squander and then as usual proceed to whine and cry like a little girl when you don't get your way. That seems to be as far as you usually get. Once again you are going to have another important task right in front of you..and we will see what you're really made of. Are you really this "New" Jake Raab that doesn't act like a spoiled child who throws a tantrum anytime he doesn't get what he wants? Are you done being looked at as a joke? Are you done making all those mistakes that you've mentioned before? Meet me in the ring and prove it. Show the world that Jake Raab is NOT a joke. But the only problem is...you're gonna have to prove it against The Rock Soldier."

Reaching into my bag, I get a bottle of water.

"You mentioned before something about Austin James Mercer whining and crying about a title loss some weeks ago...but look what has happened now Jakey Boy, Austin is the new SCW World Heavyweight Champion...while you are the one who's on the outside looking in. Austin earned the respect of me, and everyone in that locker room, something you haven't even done yet."

I take a swig of my water.

"See...people like Mercer, they respect Mercer. They don't like you..and they don't respect you. But if you want that respect back, I suggest you stop whining and crying like a little girl...go out there and face me and EARN that respect back. Maybe, just maybe you won't be used as a walking punchline in the SCW locker room. But unfortunately for you, you are headed once again to another straight loss in the record books. If you thought you hit rock bottom before when you lost that Fatal Four Way match...you're going to feel even worse when I leave you laying."

I take a look at the ring around me, knowing I'm going to be in for a war.

"Jake Raab...just a kid going up in a game that he is not ready for. You want to repeat the success your cousin has, but it seems so far...you haven't come close. Your mistakes of youth will come back to haunt you in this match. Now, I may not be the cage fighter you are, but I have been all over the world and fought every Tom Dick and Harry who thought they could try me, and I always ended up with my hand raised. Kedron Williams thought he could spook me with his oh so cryptic words last week, and I burned that witch at the stake. He was only step one on my road to the title...you my friend...will be step two."

I begin to leave the ring.

"See Raab, it doesn't matter where you've been, how many MMA fights you won...everything you've done before doesn't mean a damn thing here. I'm on my road to the Roulette Title...and it goes through you. Sure, you may be from the world of Ultimate Fighting..and you may know a whole lot of moves that'll snap my bones in half, but when the match is over, I will be the last man standing while you lie in a broken heap in the middle of the ring. So I suggest you tighten those gloves and square up...because you're gonna get rocked."

I leave the ring and exit the arena as the camera crew packs in everything.

I love international travel. It gives me a chance to see the world. This time we were headed to Dublin Ireland for Climax Control. As soon as me and my image consultant Geoff Matthens landed, we checked into the hotel and decided to take a look at this country. On this bright morning, we looked at the buildings around us on the cobblestone road as there is massive land in the distance.

Griffin Hawkins: Ah yeah, here we are in the heart of Ireland. Isn't this place awesome?

Geoff Matthens: Why can't you be cranky in the morning like normal people?

Griffin Hawkins: Jesus...someone's a grump. I figured you'd like travel.

Geoff Matthens: I do..I'm just trying to get used to going overseas.

Griffin Hawkins: Once you settle in, you'll have some fun.

Geoff Matthens: You need to remember this isn't a vacation Griffin, we're here on business. You've got your first match back in this company...first impressions mean everything.

Griffin Hawkins: I wouldn't call this a first impression, I was here before remember?

Geoff Matthens: I know that..but you've been gone for such a long time, this is your chance to pick up where you left off. And it starts with Kedron Williams.

Griffin Hawkins: I'm well aware. I'm on the road to some gold, and it all starts with him.

Geoff Matthens: So..anything you know about him?

Griffin Hawkins: Uhh...not much really...why?

Geoff Matthens: Did you know he is apparently a Warlock?

I then stop dead in my tracks.

Griffin Hawkins: What?....

Geoff Matthens: Apparently word around town is he is some kind of satanist or something...

Griffin Hawkins: Oh man...this freak is going down! I'm gonna kick his ass straight to hell!

Geoff Matthens: Whoa whoa whoa..relax...don't get so stressed out. There are other ways to do this...

Griffin Hawkins: ...Call the Ghostbusters?

Geoff Matthens: Um...no, I was thinking we speak to the dead. See if we can get answers on how to defeat Kedron.

Griffin Hawkins: You really sure about this?

Geoff Matthens: Absolutely. I'll ask around and see if I can find someone who can speak to those on the other side and we'll meet up tonight.

Griffin Hawkins: While you do that, I'm gonna go get something to eat...wonder what the food is like around here..

As he walks off, I can't help but wonder what this is going to do...I never spoke to a ghost before, hopefully I don't end up raising the dead or anything, that would make me look bad in my return to SCW...

------------------------------------------------

What is it with me and creepy places? Somehow I always end up going near one like a haunted house or a cemetery. I figured I listen to Geoff and do this and hopefully ward off any bad spirits who may visit me during my match. This may sound silly to you, but I always come prepared. And so we met up at BallyGally Castle later that night just as the sun was going down. We went downstairs where a man and a woman were setting up what looked to be a pentagram drawn on the stone floor.

Griffin Hawkins: ....Are you sure this will work?

Geoff Matthens: Trust me, I've seen TV, this always works.

I noticed a red haired man in all black, he shakes my hand.

Whitten Ashby: Hey..Whitten Ashby, you must be Griffin.

Griffin Hawkins: Yeah..nice to meet you.

Whitten Ashby: This is my assistant Dolores Briggs.

Delores Briggs: Nice to meet you sir. We heard about your problem..me and Whitten have been doing this for years and we have not failed once. Just have a seat.

Me and Geoff sit in the middle of the pentagram where the Ouija Board is resting.

Whitten Ashby: This castle is haunted by Marion McGavin. She often frequents this old place from time to time. Perhaps she can help you ward off the spirits.

Geoff Matthens: Let's see if she's here first.

We all put our hands on the board.

Whitten Ashby: Marion...are you here with us?..

The marker on the board moves slowly towards yes.

Griffin Hawkins: Holy shit...

Delores Briggs: Someone ask her something else...

Griffin Hawkins: Okay..um...does anyone care about the Kardashians?

It slowly moves towards.....No.

Griffin Hawkins: Damn..not even the dead like them very much..

Geoff Matthens: I think you should ask her about something SCW related.

Griffin Hawkins: Okay...will I be a champion again one day?...

It slowly moves towards Yes.

Geoff Matthens: Well I'll be..you will be champion once more..

Griffin Hawkins: Well..I do have aspirations for the Roulette Title. I wanna ask something else. Uhh...will the Ottawa Senators ever win a Cup?..

It moves over once again to...No. Is this thing serious?

Griffin Hawkins: Oh come on! They just need new management!

Geoff Matthens: Griff!...I think it's time to get serious.

Griffin Hawkins: Okay okay...will I beat Kedron Williams?

I hope for a yes...but then it goes to no.

Griffin Hawkins: This game sucks! I'm not playing anymore!

I get up and leave the room, Geoff quickly follows me as he stops in the hallway.

Geoff Matthens: Hey..its okay. This is just the ghosts opinion..

Griffin Hawkins: Well this ghost is a bitch! She doesn't even know hockey!

Geoff Matthens: Just calm down..we'll just ask her some more questions about Kedron, okay?

Griffin Hawkins: ....Fine.

We go back in and see both of the spirit guides working the Ouija board...it looks as if there is wheels on the bottom of the cursor.

Griffin Hawkins: You lied....

Whitten Ashby: I...we..

Angrily I go for him, but Geoff has to hold me back.

Griffin Hawkins: You lied! You Irish bastard! You mocked my love of hockey! I'm gonna kill the both of you!

He manages to pull me out of the castle as I'm trying hard to go back in.

Geoff Matthens: Will you please calm down!?

Griffin Hawkins: I will not calm down! We're gonna see if the Irish really bleed green!

Geoff Matthens: Look, if there is anything this should teach you, its not to listen to anyone's opinions on your match...alive or dead. This Kedron guy..yeah he's probably dark and scary and all that, but being scary doesn't win you matches..wrestling does. That's what got you this far, and that's what's gonna get you the victory.

I don't know what it was...but he made a lot of sense. I shouldn't have to go through all of this.

Griffin Hawkins: Kedron's going down..I'll see to it.

Geoff Matthens: That's the spirit. Just go out there and fight. Let's head back to the hotel, this place is creepy enough at night.

Griffin Hawkins: You go on ahead..I'm gonna go take a walk.

He nods to me before walking away, I take one last look at the castle before walking away from this creepy run down place. It didn't matter if Kedron was a warlock or not...he would meet his end one way or another.

------------------------------------------------

Cameras open up to what looks to be....a gallery. Pictures are framed on display for the camera man to see. I step from out of the shadows, dressed in a all black suit and tie with my hair in a ponytail. I look to the camera and speak.

"I make my return to Sin City Wrestling...in one of the more successful companies I've wrestled in. We've all seen my return at Blaze of Glory..and now, I am no longer in the referee stripes. I make my return against an unknown. A mysterious warrior who is shroud in mystery and darkness...looking to spoil my return match. The Son of Salem...Kedron Williams. Not much is known about this man other than his dark history. He's looking to bring his brand of darkness into Sin City Wrestling. But as history has shown...darkness can be purged by light, and I am that light."

I step between the paintings, making sure I am seen.

"Kedron is a man cloaked in darkness, many believe I will be the first victim as he begins his reign of terror of SCW. I think otherwise. See Kedron, I never faced you before...but I have faced your type. I've been in the ring with guys who claim to be all big and dark and scary and what have you. Clowns..Zombies....once I beat the hell out of a Priest. The point I'm trying to make Mr.Williams is that I'm not intimidated by you. Whatever smoke and mirrors or mind games you have planned..they don't move me. Because I've seen everything in my long career..and nobody has been able to intimidate me in the slightest. The ones before you paid the price for their sins against humanity..and it's time you do the same. But before that, I'm gonna give you an education."

I go over to what looks to be a picture of a black headless horseman.

"I know what you're thinking..this is the Headless Horseman from Sleepy Hollow. Well..it's not. This is the Dullahan. In the Irish Fairy Realm..it spread fear in the hearts of those in Sligo and Down. It is known for being one of the more feared creatures in the old Irish tales. Like the Dullahan...I built a reputation for myself in my last visit here in SCW..taking on the likes of James Tuscini and Dmitri, and like the Dullahan, both were slain and fell at my feet as I went off into the night. Kedron..do you really want to join them and the rest of the warriors who thought they could take me down and return home triumphant? I advise you to look through my matches and see what I am all about..see that I am the real deal."

I go to a picture of a brave warrior on a horse.

"Finn McCool..a warrior of Irish Mythology..a giant if you will. He and another giant known as the red man shouted threats to one another from across the sea. Many wondered when the clash between these two titans would happen..and now centuries later...two men are standing across the ring from one another. One will walk away victorious...the other will go home in defeat. See Kedron...this isn't my first time here in SCW, they know who I am. But for you...this is a chance for a first impression. Do you really have the right to walk around with a badass name like the Son of Salem?"

I slick my hair back a little bit.

"See Kedron...you don't realize it yet, but you stand in my way of the inevitable. I came back to SCW because I have some unfinished business here..and anyone who knows me, knows that I hate to leave things unfinished. The last time I was here, I was one of the more dominant stars on the roster...and hopefully you bothered to look into the past and see how I dealt with threats to my legacy. You think you're the first dark and scary looking guy to come down the pike and get in my way? Last time I was here, I beat a Vampire...if I wasn't intimidated by him, what makes you think that I will be by the likes of you."

I see another picture on the far left. I smile and walk up to it. It looks to be a woman who is flying through the air..her long dark hair cascading down to her shoulders.

"The Banshee....her wailing screams will ring in your ears..they usually mean the end is coming. While I may not have her pipes, I let off a metal yell when I am decimating my opponents.  Do you really know what is coming Kedron? Do you know the Irish heroes...the Irish ghosts that we have seen tonight? You look to have seen your fair share of ghosts and demons. But what's gonna happen when you come across someone who isn't afraid? Someone who is looking to burn you from where you stand?.."

I step up to the camera man, making sure to be seen.

"If you're gonna show up to Dublin Kedron..you better show up correct. Because I am coming to pick up where I left off here before Sin City came to a close.
You don't scare me Kedron...you don't intimidate me in the slightest bit. I've seen people like you all my career and they all act like they are just going to come in and take over SCW, scaring their enemies into thinking they'll be sacrificed or killed. I've seen fear, I've seen intimidation....and you come nowhere close to it. At Climax Control...I'm gonna burn you at the stake. The City of Dublin...is gonna get rocked."

I then turn away, going into the shadows as the camera man focuses once again on Finn McCool one more time before packing everything up.

I was relieved to get Aiden out of trouble. No longer did I have to worry about him working for the mob, because he was going to be working for me. On Monday I showed him the ropes as I brought him to the main hall. He looked around, taking in everything.

Aiden Ravencroft: Wow...so this is where you work?...

Griffin Hawkins: Yeah, I know it's not fancy, but it's honest work.

Aiden Ravencroft: Oh it's good...I like things simple. At least I don't gotta worry about seeing any dead bodies.

Griffin Hawkins: Only thing dead you'll see is the cockroaches...remind me to call an exterminator tomorrow.

Aiden Ravencroft: You got it boss.

I did like the sound of that. I figure I joke around with him a bit.

Griffin Hawkins: Stick with me kid and you'll get to the top..

Aiden Ravencroft: *laughs* Dude, I'm a year older than you.

Griffin Hawkins: You're still my employee bro, remember that.

I lead the way as we head into the office.

Griffin Hawkins: And this is where all the magic happens...my office.

Aiden Ravencroft: Not bad, pretty good actually. Is this my desk?

Griffin Hawkins: No..that's my desk. Your desk is over there.

I motion to the desk that's near the window.

Aiden Ravencroft: Ah, I get a nice view of the area, not bad.

Griffin Hawkins: Hey, I'm not paying you sit around and do nothing, but make sure to enjoy the view once in a while.

Aiden Ravencroft: No problem..so whats my job?

Griffin Hawkins: You take any calls that come here, write it down and I'll set up the meeting with our client. After that we'll get to work in helping the person with the problem.

Aiden Ravencroft: Sounds...pretty interesting.

Griffin Hawkins: You really think so?

Aiden Ravencroft: Yeah, so...why did you put this together in the first place?

Griffin Hawkins: It's hard to explain...I guess I like helping people. People who have problems and can't go to others. I know that sounds lame.

Aiden Ravencroft: Oh no, it doesn't at all. In times like this in a world where we got a douchebag as president, it's good to have someone out there looking out for somebody.

Griffin Hawkins: Thanks...and I know this isn't as glamorous as you working for your family or as a bartender, but it is work.

Aiden Ravencroft: I'm always up for anything new. Shall we get started?

Griffin Hawkins: Yeah...lets do it.

He nods as he goes to his desk, getting everything set up. I go to mine and kick back, reading a newspaper. I was starting to think maybe us together would be perfect, at least I'd be keeping him out of trouble. I just hope he doesn't get me in trouble...

---------------------------------------------------

~Flashback~

After that fight with Gideon...I felt humiliated and hurt. I had no idea how to feel now, I felt like I was emasculated somehow. The words he told me as he rained down fists upon me was just brutal. After I told Marquis what had happened, he actually didn't really say much about it, which confused me. I didn't understand why he wasn't doing anything about it. Course, I didn't expect him to fight my battles, but at least stick up for me once in a while. One night I was reading a Punisher comic book in my room as I lied back on my bed when suddenly, he opened the door, walking into the room with a serious look on his face.

Marquis Laveaux: Come with me...I have something to show you.

I put down the book, looking up at him

Griffin Hawkins: Where are we going?

Marquis Laveaux: You'll see...call it a surprise.

I wasn't sure if I would like this surprise or not. Just days before I got the surprise of my life when Gideon beat me down like a Dog, who knows what was going to happen next. I followed him out to the car and we drove downtown. I honestly didn't know where we were going...I remained silent during the car ride, not sure if it was okay to speak up. Finally he spoke.

Marquis Laveaux: What I'm about to do is help you out. In the long run, you'll be grateful that I did this for you.

Griffin Hawkins: Um...okay.

What was he doing for me? How was this going to help me out? Soon we stopped on the edge of town in what looked to be an old gym. We both got out of the car and went up to it, him leading the way for me. He reached into the pocket of his trench coat and pulled out a key, opening the door with a creak. He turned on the light switch and there looked to be some heavy sandbags, a punching bag, some weights, and a huge wrestling ring right in the center of it.

Griffin Hawkins: Whats this?...

Marquis Laveaux: Whats it look like? A wrestling ring.

Griffin Hawkins: I get that, but why did you bring me here?

He looks to me with a serious look on his face.

Marquis Laveaux: Look, Gideon beat you down. He could've killed you right there if he wanted to, but chose not to. You were lucky that day.

Griffin Hawkins: I realize that. But why am I here?

Marquis Laveaux: I've thought about it and I want to train you to be a wrestler.

I was immediately taken aback..a wrestler?

Griffin Hawkins: A wrestler? You mean like those big dudes on TV?

Marquis Laveaux: Same ones.

Griffin Hawkins: What experience do you have?...

Marquis Laveaux: Well I've been wrestling for the last ten years...I'd say that's a lot.

Griffin Hawkins: Marquis...have you looked at me? I'm not exactly the wrestling type, I just got the shit beat out of me on a subway train...and you want me to be a wrestler?

Marquis Laveaux: I realize this sounds crazy to you, but after what happened with Gideon it made me realize that I'm not always going to be there to back you up. You need to fend for yourself.

Griffin Hawkins: Okay...so you want me to learn how to wrestle. Never mind I have no prior experience in this sort of area..not to mention I'm just now finding out that you're a wrestler.

Marquis Laveaux: It's not something I tell a lot of people about. But you don't have to have prior experience in this. Have you played any sports in your life?

Griffin Hawkins: Well when I was younger I used to play little league baseball as a pitcher. As I grew older I started playing Hockey with my friends.

Marquis Laveaux: Well, you're well on your way. First I wanna see how well you hit...I want you to punch me as hard as you can.

I did not like where this was going...

Griffin Hawkins: Dude..if I hit you, you hit me back, and I'll be taking a dirt nap.

Marquis Laveaux: I'm not going to hit you back, this is a free shot. I wanna see how hard you hit..see if its enough to knock me down. My hand are behind my back..

He takes off his coat, placing both arms behind his back. I ball my fist up and connect with the hardest punch I can, striking him hard in the face. He's staggers back a bit, but it doesn't knock him down. I did however manage to make him bleed. He wipes it off.

Marquis Laveaux: Not bad...for a beginner. But you're gonna have to try harder than that if you want to pursue this career.

Griffin Hawkins: ....Okay?

Marquis Laveaux: Before we go further, I want to make sure you're all in for this. I don't want to push you into something you're not ready for. If you don't want to train to be a wrestler, then just say the word and we'll go home..I'll never bring it up again.

I thought about it. For the last few years I have been looking for something to do with my life. Wanting to escape my rich and wealthy family name. Chances are I was gonna get hurt...but on the other hand this was my chance to carve my own name into history without them. I didn't know if I would succeed or not, but I had to take a chance.

Griffin Hawkins: .....I'll do it. Come on, lets get started.

Marquis Laveaux: Whoa whoa, don't get too excited. Your training won't be with me, it will be with the owner of this gym. If you want this, you gotta be up early..8 AM tomorrow...no later.

Griffin Hawkins: I'll be up.

Marquis Laveaux: Good..lets get out of here.

He turns to leave, but something Gideon said still bothered me.

Griffin Hawkins: Marquis...wait....Gideon said some...things to me. He called me a charity case and said it wouldn't be long until you get bored and toss me aside.

He steps closer to me, looking at me as if I was an injured dog.

Marquis Laveaux: Griffin, Gideon doesn't know anything about you or what you're capable of. I saw something in you that night that I haven't seen in anyone in ages. You're gonna be something great one day, you just have to have more confidence in yourself and not listen to him. I'm with you every step of the way, I'd never ditch you.

Griffin Hawkins: ...You really mean that?

Marquis Laveaux: I promise...I will never leave your side.

That almost instantly put all my worst fears to rest, he believed that much in me that he was going to stand by me. We leave the gym as I have hope in my heart that I would succeed in this endeavor. I have never wrestled before, so this was going to take a long time. But I was set on making my own name and blazing my own trail. My journey would begin tomorrow..

-------------------------------------------

Cameras open up to a very chilling place. On this night it's time to say goodbye to all...as the camera man zooms out, we see many headstones. It doesn't take long for them to realize this is a Cemetery. I walk from out of the shadows in this lonely cold place. I'm dressed clad in black, a long black trenchcoat covering me as I got my hands in my pockets.

"Fate can indeed be a cruel mistress. Just when my SCW career is just starting to flourish...in just a matter of weeks, it will come to an end. Sin City Wrestling will close it's doors for the final time. Everything that has been built up for years, everything it represents will be nothing more than a memory. I realize nothing lasts forever...I know all things must die. In time we'll look back on SCW's history and remember all the past superstars...Kris Ryan....Dmitri...Despayre...Alice Knight...warriors who fought for what they believed in and never gave up. My time here is nearly over, I don't know what will happen between now and the new year. But the one thing I can promise is that I will give the people a show of a lifetime. I will see to it that they remember Griffin Hawkins as a man who never gave up, who never sold out, and never backed down from anyone no matter who it was. This match coming, is the biggest match of my SCW career...for the first time ever, I face the World Heavyweight Champion in form of Calvin Harris."

I continue to walk, not even looking at the graves as I pass. I stop near the end of them.

"Calvin Harris...heh....we meet at last, one on one. This time no tag matches, no more you taking all the glory while I do most of the work carrying your sorry ass. It's finally one on one...heh, you had to know this was coming Calvin, the two of us..two major players in SCW clashing for the first time. Many are saying this is your biggest challenge to date, I see it as the same thing. You've been complaining on and on about how you're being booked...well I guess management got tired of listening to you cry like a little girl and threw you a bone. Because here's the thing, I'm not a Clown...and I'm not a Crusader....I'm The Rock Soldier. I'm the guy who's coming straight at you..and you can thank almighty God that that belt of yours is not on the line. It's not about titles dude, it's about giving the people the show that they deserve. It's about leaving a lasting memory for the people of Vegas. And that memory will come when I lay you out in the middle of the ring."

Calvin Harris..my toughest challenge to date. I know already there will be an uphill battle.

"You know...there is just this one thing that I have been wondering Calvin..why are those two stiffs really here? I mean..you got Daniel Richards and Gabriel Michaels...but do you think the average SCW fan knows who they are? Do you think they even care? Here's the truth man...nobody gives a fuck about what you did in some pissy little federation you and those two rent a cops wrestled in a few years ago. They don't care about the past, they care about now. You brought them back..claiming the system is against you? Nah man..that's a smoke screen. You brought them back because you're scared as fuck. You knew that with Dmitri out of the picture, it wouldn't be long until the whole roster starts gunning for you. They're not just friends to you...they're a security blanket. They are protection to keep you from losing that belt to bigger and badder competition. Because without them you're a man without a country. That itself tells me that you're scared. You're worried that you'll lose the title again, so you went out and picked up the phone and begged you buddies to come out of retirement or whatever Burger King they were working at to come down and assist you. That's where you and me differ. I knew on my road to the top...it would be a tough one. But I didn't need to pick up my phone and call my old pals to back me up...everything I've done, I did it on my own. You travel in a pack, I travel alone. But if your two little butt puppets want to come down and watch the match, I invite them. Because once their meal ticket is gone..they'll go back to whatever podunk workplace they were at as if nothing happened."

I look around at the graves around me.

"I came to this place for a special reason. Around me are tombstones....people I have left in my wake on my road to the top...."

The camera man shows the tombstones, Samuel Devereux, Damian Payne, James Tuscini, Ryan Keys, Steve Ramone, and Dmitri.

"All serious competition. They all tried against me and they failed. Former Champions, former contenders, all around athletes. But none of them compare to you Calvin. None of them your champion pedigree. I realize that this win....would be a good way for me to go out. A victory over the World Heavyweight Champion...the company's top guy. I'm not gonna tell you that this is gonna be easy Calvin, I'm not like you. I don't have a hard fought match and then pretend that the whole thing is a breeze. I learned a long time ago that too much arrogance can be a man's downfall. I know that coming up against you....there's a chance that I'll be defeated. But I use that fear to fuel me. I use it as motivation to go in there and give you the biggest fight you have had in SCW. In times like this, I have to give the SCW fans something to remember me by. And so far, I have not disappointed. Whether I am opening the card...or main eventing it, I make sure every single fan in this arena has something to talk about the next morning. See, all these warriors are people who put up their best against me...but in the end they failed. Will you be added to this list?.."

A sly smile comes across my face before I continue.

"I must say..for a World Champion, god damn are you bitter. Your problem is you whine about EVERYTHING! I mean Christ alive man, I've heard people with gunshot wounds complain less than you do. Every time there's a camera in front of you, all you ever do is whine and cry and bitch and moan about not getting what you think you deserve. When was the last time you said anything that actually meant something? You're pretty much a 6'2 227 pound child who always stomps his feet when he doesn't get attention. My little boy at home has more maturity than you and that's sad. Whenever something goes wrong on your end, you blame everyone around you because you don't got the balls to go home, look in the mirror and blame yourself for your short comings and errors. Is this the example that you want to set for your kid? When things don't go your way you throw a big ass tantrum like the world's biggest crybaby bitch? This sounds cliche dude...but to get respect, you gotta earn respect. And all you've done lately is run around and blame management for your shortcomings as if there's some kind of conspiracy against you just cause you're champion. Wake up Calvin! There is NO conspiracy! There is no agenda against you! Ward and Christian handed you everything on a silver platter and you act as if the whole world is against you. You've been given everything that the every man and woman in that SCW locker room would give their right arm to have what you have..and you were crying on social media just because you're "unfairly" booked or you don't have a show that's dedicated to you? You playing the victim card has gotten old a LONG time ago. You're not a martyr...you're just a sad..pathetic..flawed shell of a man who doesn't got it between his legs to look in the mirror and see the failure in front of him."

Calvin was someone who needed to be brought back down to earth...and fast.

"You talked before about being the best...and how Christian and Ward don't give you the credit you deserve. I ask you....what have you done to deserve any credit? Yeah, you beat Dmitir..the same guy twice, but who have you beaten since then? Anthrax? Please...The Crusader, good athlete, but not quite on your level.

You say you're the best, but you have NOT beaten the best. Kris Ryans has been calling you out for months, and he was the Roulette Champion for over a year...and each time you ignored him. Crimson lately has stepped his game up, and he mentioned that he wants your title, but he's not even on your radar. See, I held a title like the one you're holding now...three times in my career. And I knew quickly in holding a belt like that, is that you have to take on all comers who want to knock you off your perch. It seems you're just comfortable facing jabronies that my sister could beat to a pulp...but when it's someone who's fierce competition who you see as a threat, you complain on social media about it...sometimes even threatening to no show the event. Is that how a World Champion is supposed to behave? The truth of the matter is...you haven't been tested since you won that title. You've already proven your superiority over someone like Dmitri...but what's gonna happen when you face a new Challenger? What's gonna happen when you face me?"

The collision between me and Harris was fast approaching, only one of us would walk out the winner.

"I know as always you're probably treating this like it's gonna be the easiest match you ever had because well let's face it..you're a douchebag with zero redeeming qualities. But I'm treating this like a true clash of the titans. See...you may not realize this, but you and me are a rare dying breed. We both climbed out from where we're at, we were both told that we don't have what it takes to get to top, so we scratched and clawed and fought for what we want. We toured the world, honed our craft, becoming a global brand. See, you don't see it that way. You see this match is nothing but bragging rights, I see it as a chance for both of us to give the people...the fans of SCW a match to go out on. I have a chip on my shoulder just like you....but the only difference is, I care about this company, I got the respect of everyone in that locker room. This is something you and me have fought our whole lives to get at, and I'm not going to squander it. Win or Lose, I'll give the people of Sin City something to talk about the next morning, I guarantee you that."

I begin stepping up on the hill.

"What's puzzling you is the nature of my game. You spoke about me before, treating me like i'm just some jabroni who just came out of nowhere. I'm a guy who's been in the ring with them all, I've turned kings into beggars, Gods into simps. And how do I do that? I take the hardest hits my opponent can dish out and I ask him...is that the best you got?  I know when my story in Sin City is over, people will remember me as one of the greatest in it's history...bar none. And while I am disappointed that I won't get to achieve my goal in becoming Sin City Wrestling World Heavyweight Champion, I'll at least take solace in knowing that I was in the ring with the man himself and I was able to give him the biggest fight of his life....hell..as an added bonus, I may end up handing him his most significant loss."

I finally make my way up to the hill, I go to what looks to be an empty grave...on it reads...Calvin Brandon Harris,

November 19th 1988 - December 17th 2017.

"Will this be your grave Calvin? Unlike Eboneezer Scrooge...you may not have a chance of escaping this fate. Sin City Wrestling is ending...everyone's wondering where they will be in 2018. I already have a place I'll be going to when my time here is up..question is where are you gonna be? Shit, last time you lost the title you acted like a pouty little baby who just got his candy taken away from him. After you lost the title, you just disappeared, you went into hiding, you refused to be interviewed so you can talk about losing the title. I mean..if your match didn't have a rematch clause, we probably would never hear from you again...which wouldn't be a big loss. Are you gonna retire? Or are you going to go to another company, get your ass beat, and claim the whole world is against you as usual because you blame everyone for your shortcomings? That's why we're here....for this may be your fate. The run of Calvin Harris will come to an end, but before that happens. I'm gonna get my piece of you. I have been waiting for months to test my skills against you, see if you are everything you say you are. There is no turning back from where you and me are headed. This is the last hurrah for both of us in Sin City. The question is can The Martyr defeat The Rock Soldier? All questions will be answered this Sunday. Now if you'll excuse me....I got some work to do. See you Sunday Calvin..."

I pick up the shovel and begin to shovel the dirt into Calvin's grave. Sunday was going to be the day of reckoning for both of us.

One thing that was always annoying with me around the Holidays....shopping. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind getting presents for my family, they are important to me. It's the Holiday rush that gets me. It's hard to get the perfect present when a mob of people viciously cut in front of you. This year I decided to get my start early. After going from store to store in the Mall, it was time for me to go home. I started bringing the gifts and wrapping to my car, then I hear Aiden's voice.

Aiden Ravencroft: Griff! Griff wait up!

I turn and see him running up to me, looking out of breath.

Griffin Hawkins: Aiden, whats going on?

Aiden Ravencroft: We need to talk.....somewhere private.

Griffin Hawkins: ....Fine.

I get in the car as he gets in the passenger's side. I roll up the windows to make sure no one hears us.

Griffin Hawkins: What's going on?

Aiden Ravencroft: I want out...you have to get me the fuck out of here!

Griffin Hawkins: But I thought you liked working for the mob as a bartender.

Aiden Ravencroft: I did...but then I found out something...

Griffin Hawkins: What?...

Aiden Ravencroft: I just witnessed someone get taken out in the back alley of the restaurant.

Griffin Hawkins: ...Holy shit, were you seen?

Aiden Ravencroft: No...they didn't see me. I just saw the big guy load three bullets in his chest. I had never seen anyone get killed before.

Griffin Hawkins: ....Somehow I knew something like this would happen. Their whole operation is crooked...I tried to tell you this before.

Aiden Ravencroft: I know and I should have listened to you....I just got so swept up in the approval of my bosses that I forgot I was actually working for the mob.

Griffin Hawkins: So what do you want me to do about it? Just tell them you quit.

Aiden Ravencroft: I can't do that Griffin...then they'll know that I am onto them and then I'll be the one who gets taken out. Maybe you can talk to him...

Griffin Hawkins: Me? What do you want me to say?

Aiden Ravencroft: I don't know! You got a way with words, I figured you could try and talk him out of having me work with him.

Griffin Hawkins: It's not gonna be that easy......unless....

Aiden Ravencroft: Unless what?

Griffin Hawkins: You just got yourself a job offer...

Aiden Ravencroft: From who?...

I smile at him

Griffin Hawkins: From me.

Aiden Ravencroft: You? What do you do?

Griffin Hawkins: Some call it a detective agency...what I do is help the helpless...no matter what problems they have, I am always there to lend a hand. How about I give you  a job?

Aiden Ravencroft: Um...I...guess. But you think Vito will go for that?

Griffin Hawkins: Just let me talk to him and things will be fine. As a matter of fact, we'll go talk with him right now.

Aiden Ravencroft: No Griff..we don't have to do that now...

Griffin Hawkins: Just trust me...okay?

He sighs and sits back as we drive off. I didn't realize that I had came up with a great idea, I should've thought of it sooner. I just hope I know what I'm doing..

~Flashback~

It had been some time before me and Maquis had talked about things. I started to see things his way, why he wanted to protect me from his former friends. Days later I decided to go out into the city to clear my head and see other parts of LA, after a pretty decent eventful day, I took the Subway train home. I sat on the train, waiting for my stop....not paying attention to the fact that I'm the only one on there...

or so I thought...

I sat to myself relaxing until a familiar voice cut through the air.

"Enjoying the ride?"

I turn and see Gideon smiling as he steps on through the door of the train. I immediately get up, not wanting anything to do with him.

Griffin Hawkins: Get the hell away from me....

Gideon Blackwell: Now is that any way to greet a friend?

Griffin Hawkins: We are not friends...I know what you are..Marquis told me.

Gideon Blackwell: Really? And what bedtime story did he tell you?

Griffin Hawkins: That you and your friends were a bunch of bloodthirsty killers who murdered innocent people.

He just laughs at my remark.

Gideon Blackwell: There's no such thing as innocent people..if you want something in life, you gotta take it.

Griffin Hawkins: What do you want from me?...

Gideon Blackwell: I just want to get a good look at the stray that Marquis decided to take in.

Griffin Hawkins: Look..I want nothing to do with you, so just stay the fuck away from me alright?..

I did not want to stay in the same room with this guy...he was creepy enough face to face. I headed for the door to the next train car, but some words that came from his mouth made me stop dead in my tracks.

Gideon Blackwell: You really think Marquis cares about you?

I slowly turn and look at him grinning arrogantly.

Griffin Hawkins: What did you say?...

Gideon Blackwell: He had to have told you everything kid...tell me you're not falling for that big brother routine.

Griffin Hawkins: Whatever he was..that's a long time ago, that was then, and this is now.

Gideon Blackwell: You really think he's your knight in shining armor? Please...deep down inside he's a killer, and you're dense as hell if you're falling for this nice guy act.

Griffin Hawkins: Get over it Gideon..it's over. Now get out of my face.

Gideon Blackwell: Oh look who's suddenly got bass in his voice. You wanna step on up junior?

I didn't really want to fight him, but he was getting me angry.

Griffin Hawkins: I just want to get far away from you as I possibly can, and go home.

Gideon Blackwell: That's right, run home to Marquis like the little nancy boy you are..

I don't know what it was...but letting all my anger out, I deliver one punch in the face, I figured it'd knock him down, but it didn't. The blood on his lip starts dripping down as a twisted smile comes across his face.

Gideon Blackwell: Look who finally found his balls...you wanna step on up and try me?..

I go for another punch, but he grabs my arm and knees me in the stomach. I still get in a fighting stance, putting my fists up.

Gideon Blackwell: Care to try again?...

I throw another punch, only this time he catches it with his hand, he uses the other hand to punch me in the stomach, lift me up and throw me to the floor. He goes over to taunt me, but thinking fast, I punch him right below the belt. As he's reeling I climb on his back, trying to get him in a sleeper hold type hold...but back then I didn't really know much moves as he simply threw me off. He was stronger than me, but I didn't care. I swung at him, only he ducked and hit a turning kick to my stomach and stiff lefts and rights, sending me reeling. I was stunned as blood was starting come out of my nose and mouth as he grabbed me, and pinned me to the wall.

Gideon Blackwell: I could kill you right now if I wanted to....nobody would care, Marquis wouldn't give a damn about you...he'd probably think you ran away. You know why? Because you're nothing...he only took you in because he felt sorry for you..you're nothing more than a charity case to him that'll never amount to anything. Get in my face again..and maybe next time I won't be so charitable..got it?

With that he drops me to the floor as the train stops. He leaves it as I still remain on the floor of the train...hurt. It wasn't the beatdown he gave me....it was his words that cut me like a knife, every horrible thing he said reminded me of the same thing my father and other people throughout my life tried to tell me. I had went up against someone I hated...and was defeated. It wouldn't be the last time that happened..

---------------------------------------------

I sit in a very familiar place...the ring. But it's not the same place where the show is going to start. This is in Stateline Nevada...I sit in the middle of the ring, dressed in a leather jacket and black leather pants. I sit in the middle of the ring on a steel folding chair. The Internet Title rests on my lap.

"In my career....I've had a few victories...a few losses. I've been knocked down many times....but I always found a way to get back up. Whenever I have gotten a setback, I do one of two things...I either suffer in silence....or I seek redemption. When James Tuscini beat me in that ladder match some weeks ago, I'll admit, I wasn't happy with it. But I didn't whine or cry or throw a tantrum like our World Champion does whenever things don't go his way, I just picked myself up and got back in the game. You know what happened? I beat James Tuscini in the rematch, hell I beat him so bad I sent him running to the Tag Division with his tail tucked between his legs, it's obvious he doesn't want to fight me again. But that wasn't the first time that I was defeated. In my second match here in SCW, I was beaten by Samuel Deveraux. That's why I chose this venue here. This was the exact place where I suffered my first loss. I use defeat as a learning experience...and in this second encounter with Samuel...I'll be well prepared."

I know it seemed I was too focused on Tuscini...but in reality, Deveraux had my full attention.

"This is the second time we meet Sammy....a lot has happened since last time we first met eachother. Our careers took different directions....I went on to thrive, winning the Internet Title, while you would go on to challenge for the Roulette Title.....and things didn't work out for you. It was inevitable that you and me meet up. After all it was you who handed me my first loss here in SCW. I'm gonna be straight with you, I want this match more than you...I need this win for me. Not just to prove that I am the real deal and not a transitional champion like the last owner who held this belt. I need this win for me. Because the last time nothing was settled between us, the only reason you got the win over me was due to Steve Ramone sticking his nose where it didn't belong and ended up costing me the match in the process. But as you can see...things are different now. Steve Ramone is ancient history...why? Because I retired him. Now there is nothing and nobody to get between us. We're gonna see once for all who is the rightful champion."

I adjust the title on my shoulder.

"It was right here....right in this very spot Sammy that you pinned my shoulders to the mat. I have not forgotten that defeat. It has hung over my head since, and I have waited months and months to get my rematch against you. If I want to become Sin City Wrestling World Heavyweight Champion one day, I want to eliminate all doubts...all bumps in the road. I have a point to prove, and that is I can beat you. I've been watching you since you beat me in our match, studying you...waiting for the day that we eventually will have our rematch once again...and now it's finally happened. Only this time, there is something bigger on the line, the Internet Title. How ironic it is that my first title defense is against a man who is the only man in SCW to pin my shoulders to the mat. Now is the time to right the wrong and prove that I am a fighting Champion when I beat you right here in this very ring."

I wanted to beat Samuel...I needed this win more than anything.

"Before we faced off last time Sammy...you said that you were an enigma and people have a hard time trying to figure you out.....funny...because I think I had you figured out in our first match. I was tuning up the band, waiting to hit you with The Shot in the Dark, and there was no way that you would get up from that. I watched our match back and forth...front and backwards...and the whole world knows that I indeed had you beat. If Steve Ramone hadn't interfered, I would've beaten you in that ring. That's why I want this match..so I can prove to the world that I can beat you. This isn't person Sammy....it's just business. You want my gold and I have to defend it against you. This is my first defense as Champion and I have a lot to prove to you, to the people, and especially Christian Underwood who doesn't think that I deserve this championship belt."

I get up and make my way to the other turnbuckle.

"I hope you're not taking me lightly Samuel...I don't want your victory over me to go to your head, the last person who did that...well, he's no longer the owner of this belt over my shoulder. You seem like a respectful man from last I saw, but you need to understand one thing, just because you get one win over me, it doesn't mean you are better than me...and it doesn't mean it will happen again. On any given night anyone can have a bad night, anyone can slip on a banana peel and it takes only 3 seconds....to lose the match. I know that better than anybody. This time around Sam....I'm prepared for you. I've been studying our match since you beat me because I knew it wouldn't take long until we fought again. Even when I became Internet Champion, I knew you would be one of the people knocking on my door for a shot at this title..."

A smirk comes across my face.

"Now that I think about it Samuel...I think you need this win just as bad as I do. Because ever since you've come back...you've done absolutely nothing. Yeah you had some damn good matches and you had chances at the Roulette Title....but you came up short. And now....here you are looking to get the success that I have reaped so you can make your return mean something. Because as of now...you have nothing to show for your recent run in SCW but a bunch of disappointment. After I lost to you months ago...I didn't allow it to define me, I kept fighting, beating superstar after superstar until I got my opportunity. My career seemed to flourish...while yours...just seems to flounder. But this is your chance to make it all worth it. If you can pin me in the ring one two three...you're the new Champion."

The demeanor on my face than changes.

"But I'm not gonna let that happen. You see Samuel....if there is one thing I learned in my 15 year career, it's that you learn more from failure than you do from success. After I lost to you I knew one day I'd face you again, and on that day i'd be ready. You may be odd and unorthodox...but you can be beaten. Many have proven again and again that you can be defeated...the only one who hasn't is me. There is dispute between who is the better man between us...and in just a matter of days, all truth will be laid to rest. You may have beaten me once....but it's not going to happen again. This time things are different. There is no one to stand in my way of victory. Sunday December 3rd will be the night that I get my win back over you. It will also be the night....that the King...gets rocked."

I smile before walking past the camera man and making my way out of the arena.

After thinking about it, I decided maybe it wasn't such a wise idea for Aiden to be working for the mob. I didn't want him to risk his life in case something happened. I went by Leo's Bistro to check on him, seeing if he was doing alright. As I walked in that night to see many businessmen and some people out with their families. I have to say, this does look like a nice restaurant. I wouldn't ,mind bringing my family here myself...but that's something to think about for another day. I walk past everyone and make my way to the bar. I see Aiden serving a customer, pouring him a drink. He looks to me and smiles.

Aiden Ravencroft: Griff! Good to seeya man!

Griffin Hawkins: Same to you bro, I see you've done well for yourself.

Aiden Ravencroft: You can say that again...so  what brings you here?

Griffin Hawkins: Just thought I'd come by and see how you were doing.

Aiden Ravencroft: Oh I'm doing great. At first I thought this job was bad news...but its actually not so bad...the customers are nice, the tips are great, I can honestly say this job is a pretty sweet deal.

This was definitely the opposite of what I was expecting to hear.

Griffin Hawkins: So...you like it here?

Aiden Ravencroft: Of course I do, hell I should thank you for setting me up to work here.

Griffin Hawkins: Aiden...um...you do remember you're here to work off a debt right?

Aiden Ravencroft: Oh I already paid off the debt.

Griffin Hawkins: You did?

Aiden Ravencroft: Yeah this job pays quite a lot.

I was really confused.

Griffin Hawkins: So...why are you still here?

Aiden Ravencroft: When I made enough to pay off the debt a few nights ago, they gave me a choice...I can either walk away and I never have to see them again...or stay on hand as their new  bartender.

I thought about it and I decided to work here on a permanent basis.

Griffin Hawkins: ...I'm confused, so now you wanna work here full time?

Aiden Ravencroft: Yeah of course.

Griffin Hawkins: You do realize you're working for the mafia right? This isn't some run of the mill restaurant.

Aiden Ravencroft: This was your idea Griff, I mean you wanted me to pay off a debt by working here.

Griffin Hawkins: Yeah but this was to pay off your gambling debts...I wasn't looking for anything official.

Aiden Ravencroft: Griff...this is better than working at a hotel, I'm sick and tired of people kissing my ass just because I'm the boss' son. Here, they respect me. I am given compliments on my work.

Griffin Hawkins: Dude..your sister slapped me in the face.

That was enough to make him laugh.

Aiden Ravencroft: That's Amanda for ya...

Griffin Hawkins: It's not funny man..she's worried about you.

Aiden Ravencroft: She's always gonna worry about me, but I'll be fine. Look..I'm not getting involved in their business, I'm just working for them as a bartender. The first time I see anything suspicious..I'm outta here.

Griffin Hawkins: You give me your word?

Aiden Ravencroft: I give you my word...actually, I'm glad you came by tonight. I wanted to thank you for getting me this job, I have never felt more....at home. I feel welcome here.

I was still worried, but part of me was happy for him.

Griffin Hawkins: Um...you're welcome I think. It's nice to see you're happy at the job you've chosen.

Aiden Ravencroft: I have you to thank for it, I appreciate it all.

We continued to talk and converse about his new job throughout the hour, it all sounded interesting and I was really happy for him that he is away from a job that he hates and he's bartending a nice restaurant..but again it was for the Gambino family. I just hope I did more good than harm..

----------------------------------------------------------

~Flashback~

I was tired of getting the run around...I wanted to know the truth about Marquis, I wanted to know the story behind his so called friends and why they continue to stalk me. If I was going to live there, he had to tell me the truth. I thought about it all day and decided I was going to confront him. That night when he came home, I was waiting right in the living room, sitting on the couch.

Marquis Laveaux: Oh hey...

Griffin Hawkins: We need to talk.

Marquis Laveaux: Can't it wait till tomorrow?

Griffin Hawkins: No..it can't. This needs to be done now.

He then sits in his chair.

Marquis Laveaux: Fine..

Griffin Hawkins: Now..I don't want to sound like I'm ungrateful...because I do appreciate all that you've done for me so far. You took me in when I had no home and I was living off the streets...nobody I know would do that, especially after I tried to steal from you...I really am thankful that you gave me a home.

Marquis Laveaux: I saw you as someone who needed help..I hate to see someone like you on the streets alone.

Griffin Hawkins: But in that same respect...I want you to be honest.

Marquis Laveaux: About what?..

Griffin Hawkins: I want to know the whole story with you and those guys you roll with.

Marquis Laveaux: I don't think it's any of your business Griffin...

Griffin Hawkins: Well I'm making it my business, I want to know now.

Marquis Laveaux: This conversation's over.

He gets up to leave, heading for his room. I was determined to get answers as I stood up.

Griffin Hawkins: Hey! I'm talking to you! I am tired of being left in the dark about things!

Marquis Laveaux: Griffin...there's a lot about them you don't know, there's a reason I told you to stay away from them.

Griffin Hawkins: Then tell me why. I went out the other night with Tristian to get some Ice Cream, and there they were just looking at me..as if they were observing me like I'm some kind of animal..

Marquis Laveaux: I'm sorry for that...I really am.

Griffin Hawkins: Marquis..If I gotta look over my shoulder for the rest of my life and see if those two rejects from an Anne Rice novel are following me, I have a right to know why.

Marquis Laveaux: Fine....in my old life..before I met you and Tristian, me, Gideon, Camilla and my then girlfriend Elizabeth terrorized the countryside in the old times. No one was safe from us...

Griffin Hawkins: What did you do?

Marquis Laveaux: Murder..pillaging..plundering. We were on top of the world, the most feared quartet in Europe. I must've spilled so much blood and orphaned many children.

Griffin Hawkins: Wow...I had no idea...

Marquis Laveaux: It was carnage...bloody carnage. No one was safe from our violent reign of terror.

Finally one day, Gideon, Elizabeth and Camilla were in a brutal fight with an army of Vampire Hunters..I didn't know if they would survive...so I escaped their captivity and went to America some centuries ago. It was then where I started to realize the errors of my ways...I had so much blood on my hands I just couldn't get over it.

Griffin Hawkins: What kept you through?

Marquis Laveaux: Tristian...she has been like a light at the end of the tunnel for me, she's the only one who accepted me for who I was...I just hope in time that you do too.

For the first time ever...I felt sorry for him. I had no idea he was tormented by so much.

Griffin Hawkins: I'm sorry...I didn't know about all that.

Marquis Laveaux: It's not something I brag about..

Griffin Hawkins: So....why are they here?

Marquis Laveaux: They want me to return to the old times...they don't realize that that life is not for me anymore. I want to make something of myself...I want to do right by Tristian.

Griffin Hawkins: Well..I kind of admire that. You trying to leave your sordid past behind and start a new life...that's really nice.

Marquis Laveaux: You really think so?

Griffin Hawkins: Yeah, I mean..at least you know what you're doing with your life...I'm still trying to find my place.

Marquis Laveaux: As long as you stay out of trouble, you'll be alright.

Griffin Hawkins: Thanks Marquis...I think I'm gonna go to bed now.

I left the room...I was starting to understand Marquis more and more. After hearing about what he had gone through with that band of monsters he calls friends...I can see why he wanted to protect me. But deep down inside, I hated feeling weak..I was tired of being treated like I'm fragile, eventually I would have to fight.

-----------------------------------------------------------

The cameras open to a....very dreary place. Nothing but darkness if not for the lights of the camera. There looks to be a marble coffin in the middle of the room. The camera then searches for me and finds me in a chair, dressed in a long black button down shirt and matching dress pants. I sit in the chair, the Internet Title resting perfectly on my left shoulder. After a few moments I begin to speak.

"We all live in the shadow of darkness. We all have dreams of immortality...very few of us live that dream. We imagine what it feels like to be on top of the world, king of all that we survey...and then we wake up, trying to survive another day. Those who have made it to the highest point in their lives one day wake up...and see that they have lost everything. They see that their empire has crumbled. It's happened with Tuscini...it'll happen one day for Calvin Harris....and it's already happened for Dmitri. In my time in this business, I've seen people climb to greater heights...and others fall from the universe. As the weeks and months go by, I continue to rise, becoming Internet Champion, being voted Future Superstar Of The Year. Meanwhile Dmitri....suffering two back to back losses to Harris....being forced to start at the bottom and work his way up by competing for the tag titles. So it's appropriate that two super powers collide in what is said to be the match of the night. The Vampire Warrior Dmitri..The Rock Soldier Griffin Hawkins. A classic case of the unstoppable force meets the immovable object. Something has got to give."

I turn in my chair a little as my speech continues.

"This makes it the second time we looked across the ring at eachother isn't it Dmitri? The first time it was a tag match where I did most of the grunt work while Calvin Harris picked up the scraps and took all the glory for himself. Before our match you told me to stay out of your way...or this would be the final night I'm alive.....what ended up happening Dmitri? I took the best you could dish out and I came back for more. Sure, you beat me from pillar to post, but I came back in your face and I laid into you with the same fire and determination that burns inside of you. But what makes things different this time Dmitri, is that there is no Calvin Harris to handicap me, and there is no James Tuscini to hide behind you while you do most of the work. It's just you and me...for the first time ever, one on one. Two of the best athletes in the sport today, facing off in that very ring. For this...I'm not sure of the outcome. I'm not gonna guarantee a victory...but what I can guarantee is the toughest fight you've ever been involved with."

I know Dmitri was still smarting over his loss, he wanted to get back onto the winning track by making an example out of me.

"I chose this place for this promo...thinking you'd feel right at home, being surrounded by nothing but death. But it seems as of late....there's something missing from you. I'm not talking about the World Heavyweight Title, but it's as if you are doubting yourself. You have lost twice to Harris...and instead of continuing to fight for the title, you decide that you and Tuscini are gonna make a run for the Tag Team Titles.

Are we seeing doubt in those cold eyes of yours? Are you starting to question your abilities in terms of getting the World Title? With all due respect to the belts, someone like you should not be going for the Tag Belts, you should be starting at the bottom and working your way to the top, instead of allowing Tuscini to piggyback off of your success. But you must not mind sharing the spotlight with him...but I ask you to leave your little sidekick in the back..I know he's gonna be watching and it must kill him to see me walk around with a title he used to hold after he promised to end my career...I want this to be between us."

I go over, standing by the casket.

"While we're on the subject of Tuscini....you really don't see what's happening do you? See..I think secretly...he wanted you to lose the title...why? Because he knew that if you retained over Harris, you'd go on to defend that title all over the world against all comers such as Samuel Deveraux...Anthrax...the Crusader and many others who would be knocking on the door for a shot at the belt. And that leaves him out in the cold, because look around, he's no longer the Internet Champion...I am. He's not gonna ask for a rematch because he knows that he can't beat me. I'm sure when you lost to Harris, he was jumping out of his chair like some kind of cheerleader. Don't you get it? It's what I was trying to tell you before...he is using you. He can't succeed on his own unless he has you by his side. But hey...maybe you're just keeping him around just for laughs. Maybe he amuses you. I mean...every King needs a Court Jester. You do however have a chance to turn all this around, because a victory over me would put everything back in contention for you. You'd go on to work your way up to the title while Tuscini goes back to hanging out with all the other curtain jerkers. But that doesn't mean I'm gonna give you a free pass and win over me. Because I too have something to prove in this match. I want to prove that I can indeed hang with the elite here in SCW..and it starts with you."

Dmitri was at his worst right now..I knew this would be a good time to strike.

"Truth is Dmitri....you NEED this win. Because lately you haven't really been yourself. Yes you're already dead...but you must be feeling dead inside lately since you lost the title. You want that gold back so bad you can taste it...it must really sting that you have no more chances at the title while the Champion will go on to face his next challenger. Is your star fading?  Is your once bright future suddenly going into the darkness that you ironically like to surround yourself with. While you are fading into the shadows....my start is starting to shine brightly. Not only winning the Internet Title...but winning the award for Future Star of the year. I usually don't toot my own horn...but that's pretty damn impressive. You need to prove that you are still the man that everyone in that locker room fears more than anyone on this roster? Are you that?...or are you a man that's lost his edge as of late? All questions will be answered this Sunday."

I walk across the floors of the crypt...this place sure is creepy.

"Let's go back in time Dmitri..you said weeks ago that you and me would one day clash for the title that belongs to you....as you can see, things didn't turn out the way that you hoped. But to me, that doesn't matter. Because I am stepping in the ring with a former Sin City Wrestling World Heavyweight Champion. To me that is just as good as stepping in with the actual champ himself. See, I've already beaten a few guys here in SCW, but I have never beaten anyone of your caliber. Ever since I got here I said I wanted the best and I was looking to prove it no matter who they put me in the ring with. Now..I do respect you Dmitri, you're a hell of a competitor...anyone who holds the richest prize in our industry has to be damn good. A victory over you would make my stock rise...even higher than it is now. I'm not looking at this as an easy match Dmitri, I know that this is my biggest challenge to date, and win or lose..people will see what The Rock Soldier can do."

I look into the camera, making sure the light shines on me so he can see me.

"Dmitri...I know the risk stepping in the ring with you. I know that you're bigger than me, you're stronger than me, you're more powerful than me and much more. Many tell me that I may get ripped apart stepping in the ring with you...and you know what? They are right. The title may not be on the line, but my well being is on the line. But the truth is....you don't intimidate me, you don't scare me, and I'm not gonna run and hide from you. In my life, I have gone through many things, horrible things, I've slept through things that would turn your hair grey. I will continue to fight each and every day for myself and my family, and the people who support me. Sure, I'll get beaten from pillar to post, but as another underdog once said..it's not about how hard you hit, it's about how hard you get hit and keep moving forward. So I want you to hit me as hard as you can and make it count...otherwise...it's gonna be you in this very Mausoleum...shoved in a casket..never to be opened again. I'm not afraid of the dark...and I'm not afraid of you. This Sunday Dmitri...you're gonna get rocked."

I walk out the doors of the Mausoleum and into the night as the camera crew wrap things up.

Earlier this week..I had to make an unfortunate trip to help someone out. I got a call in the middle of a night from a friend saying he was in jail. So scraping up the bail money, I had to go get him..he'd do the same for me. After I paid the bail the officer directed me towards the cell..

Griffin Hawkins: Thanks Nate..

He nods to me and opens the cell before leaving. I look in the cell and see it's Aiden. He has his head down and then looks up at me.

Aiden Ravencroft: Hey...

Griffin Hawkins: Hey...

Aiden Ravencroft: So uh..you paid my bail.

Griffin Hawkins: Yep...every penny.

Aiden Ravencroft: Fine, let's just go home.

We leave the police station and head to the parking garage. The whole time we were heading to my car, we were silent. Finally after a while...I decided to break the silence.

Griffin Hawkins: So we're...not gonna talk about it?

Aiden Ravencroft: What's to talk about?...

Griffin Hawkins: Well I figured you would have a lot to talk about, seeing as you got a DUI and all..

Aiden Ravencroft: I don't want to talk about it, I just want to go home.

Griffin Hawkins: Well who else is gonna talk to you about it?

Aiden Ravencroft: Can we please just go home? Why are you pushing this?

Griffin Hawkins: Because I wanna know what the fuck is wrong with you man..

Aiden Ravencroft: People get DUI's every day..don't you watch Cops?

Griffin Hawkins: Yeah but usually you stay out of trouble.

Aiden Ravencroft: What are you my warden now? Are you my guardian angel?

Griffin Hawkins: No..I'm your friend.

Aiden Ravencroft: Fine...you wanna know so bad? I had a blow up with the old man.

Griffin Hawkins: I see...

Aiden Ravencroft: I told him that I am nervous about this whole job..the pressure is on me and he told me to toughen up.

Griffin Hawkins: ...So why don't you just quit? Say you don't want this anymore.

Aiden Ravencroft: And do what? What am I gonna do when my whole life I've been groomed to take over a potential company?

Griffin Hawkins: Look man...I know how you feel...

Aiden Ravencroft: Sure you do...

Griffin Hawkins: No seriously...I do. My old man tried to mold me into his image, but I refused to conform. I did whatever I wanted and even though it cost me the only home I ever knew..it was worth it. You don't have to do this man..is this what you want to do?

Aiden Ravencroft: I don't know Griffin...I just don't know...

Griffin Hawkins: Well if there's one thing you can do is stop binge drinking. You're gonna hurt yourself...think about Amanda...

Something told me his little sister was his soft spot. He did seem like the protective type.

Aiden Ravencroft: ...Okay.

I slowly guide him to the backseat of my car...hopefully he doesn't puke in it. After I shut the door, I get in the drivers seat and drive off, leaving the parking lot. I hope none of what happens with him gets traced back to me.

~Flashback~

What does every teenager without adult supervision like to do? Party. When I had no rules and no one to watch over me, that's what I did. It didn't take me long after moving in with Marquis that I managed to find the Nightclubs downtown. Every night I went out to party, just had the right Fake ID and I was in. But on one particular night, something seemed to go awry. As I was getting a drink, a brown haired exotic looking woman seemed to take interest in me and started dancing near me on the dance floor.

I figured...this night could go well..

We must've danced for a long time...as the song says, I could've danced all night. There was something about this woman that really drawn me to her. After a while of dancing, she motioned for me to follow her out of the club. With her index finger she motioned for me to come with her..and like a moth to the flame, I followed her. We went out the back door of the club and the minute we shut the door, that's when it all happened. I had her against the wall as we began kissing. It felt amazing as she had her arms around me as I continued to kiss her up and down her neck. My moment of bliss ended when I felt something sharp on my neck. I immediately pulled away.

Griffin Hawkins: What the fuck!?...

I looked and saw her teeth was extending...they looked sharp.

Griffin Hawkins: Oh my God...

Thinking fast I run down the alley, wanting to get out of there. But before I could reach the corner to leave, I'm stopped by a mysterious figure with short blonde hair and a long black coat.

"Going somewhere?"

He was obviously with that female Vampire. I backed away and saw that she had caught up with me, her cold eyes gleaming in the moonlight. I then began to run the opposite direction. I can hear the male vampire calling after me.

"Go ahead and run! It'll give us some sport!"

I continue running down the street past the buildings until I nearly bump into Marquis.

Marquis Laveaux: Griff, you okay?

Griffin Hawkins: Do I look like I'm okay?...there's some crazy freaks after me!

And right on cue come those said freaks.

"Ah Marquis, you caught our dinner."

Marquis Laveaux: Back off Gideon..he's with me.

Gideon Blackwell: What?! Have you lost your bloody mind?

Marquis Laveaux: Look..it's hard to explain, but he's a friend of mine.

The female vampire comes closer...looking at me with a sick look in her eyes.

Camilla Bartley: Come on Marquis...let us play with him for a while.

Marquis Laveaux: Nobody is touching him alright?! Just...leave.

Gideon Blackwell: Fine..whatever, this scene's dead..let's go Camilla, lets leave them to do eachother's nails and hair.

She laughs as they walk away.

Marquis Laveaux: You alright?

Griffin Hawkins: Yeah...who the hell were those guys?

Marquis Laveaux: Old friends of mine...from the old days.

Griffin Hawkins: But those guys are freaks! How can you be friends with them?

Marquis Laveaux: It's too complicated to explain alright?...Just stay away from them.

Griffin Hawkins: Okay okay...I'm sorry. But..have you ever figured you deserve better friends than them?

He sighs.

Marqus Laveaux: I understand if you feel that way, but I kind of have a life debt to them. But that doesn't mean I agree with everything they do.

Griffin Hawkins: Well..that's a relief.

Marquis Laveaux: Come on..I'll take you home.

On that night I came face to face with my worst fear...I could've fought Gideon, but he would have easily overtaken me. Part of me was tired of being scared...sooner or later I knew I'd have to take action.

------------------------------------------------------

The best part about living in Los Angeles is that you're right near some Hollywood sets. I was lucky enough to have a friend who was willing to help me out for my next promo. The cameras open up at a Hollywood set. The room has a gothic touch to it as there's candles lit all around the place. Right in the middle is a coffin..sitting alone. I walk into the shot, dressed in a long black brown coat and a Van Helsing style hat. I slowly make my way towards it and begin to speak.

"Vampires...fearsome creatures they are. Throughout history there has been many classic vampires..but one of the most iconic ones was Count Dracula. That man set the standard for all creatures of the night with his fearsome presence. Since then...every kind of Vampire whether it be fictitious or real have been popular. Course there are many ways to end these demons of the night. There's classic ways like a stake through the heart...garlic..or exposure to sunlight. But there are other ways such as silver...or fire...or my favorite, cutting their head off. Either way there's more than one way to kill a Vampire. Now...throughout my career...I have wrestled many demons. Clowns, sadists, alleged zombies, bikers, anarchists....but a vampire is the only thing I have not beaten the hell out of. And in this match...myself and the World Champion...are facing two kinds of vampires, one literally...and one figuratively. While I don't have a stake or garlic...the only thing I need are my two fists to get me through this match. And whether Calvin Harris likes it or not...he's gonna have to deal with me being his partner and he's gonna have to back up all the trash he's been talking while Dmitri wasn't around to defend himself. If we are lucky...we will see a sunrise. I'm no Buffy...but on this night I will be a Vampire Slayer."

I lean against the coffins and continue.

"Dmitri....The Prince of Darkness himself. For the last year he has cast a shadow over SCW itself.

He's a man who has no doubt shown that he isn't just some gimmick...he is the real deal. After all he was the World Heavyweight Champion. I respect the man for what he's done...but the thing is...like all vampires...he can be hurt.

That was proven when he was defeated for the belt itself. And now he is looking to regain what was taken from him...but before that....he's gonna have a little bump in the road. Dmitri...for so long you have dominated the scene here in SCW, you've faced so many and crumbled their bodies in your wake. Your list of victims are long...but nowhere on there is me. This is in fact our first official meeting here in SCW...so people are gonna expect the unexpected between us...even if it's not one on one. I've already shared a ring with your tag partner...but I've yet to share it with you Dmitri. And I am just counting down the days and hours this tag match will begin. You are an intimidating figure indeed, but I'm not that easily scared. Why? Because I've lived through it all...you may have been around longer than I have in life, but I have had my fair share of life changing experiences..things that would end a normal man.."

Dmitri being a former World Champion is a big opportunity for me. I wasn't sure if I could beat him or not..but only time would tell.

"In your eyes Dmitri...it's the end of days, I see that everyone must come together in times like this. I told my brother there will be problems, times and tears for fears but we must live each day like it's the last. I have a different look on life than you do....while you live in the darkness...I look to the light. Some would see this as a true battle of good and evil....but I don't see it like that. I see it as a true clash of the titans...two of SCW's best eye to eye..man to man. I realize that you're bigger than me...you're stronger than me...you're more powerful than me..I know that I am facing an uphill battle...but am I scared? No. Many men before me have fought your kind in battle, and while some were victorious...some have died in battle. I don't know the outcome of this match...but if this is the end of me, I'll go down fighting. I'm willing to destroy myself if it means defeating you. In SCW...this is a game of survival...it's kill or be killed, and I refuse to lay down and die. I am looking to send a message to your little sidekick through you..in speaking of which..."

I step away from the Coffin.

"Are you insecure of your tag partner James Tuscini? I mean...why do you keep him at arm's length? Did you turn down his challenge because you consider him a threat? Do you lay awake at night in your bed...wondering if he'll one day surpass you? See....he too has beaten my tag partner, but he refuses to drink from the devil's cup and take that one last step to immortality and take what has eluded him for so long. I dunno..maybe he's too stupid to realize that he has much right to that title...or too scared of what you'll do to to him if he goes for the holy grail that you're craving for. You two are supposed to be friends...did the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants hold back one another from achieving their goals? No. I haven't seen the movie...but I'm pretty sure they mailed eachother pants..but that's besides the point. Of course...like a good little monkey, he's gonna do whatever he can to impress you in this match, because he wants to do right by you. He wants to prove that he is on your level. But regardless what happens in this match..at High Stakes VII, I am going to take that very title that he holds so dear away from him. But as for now, you and me and Calvin and Tuscini are gonna give the people of Sydney a little preview oft High Stakes VII."

As eager I was to get in the ring Tuscini, I wanted to test my skills against Dmitri.

"When I get tagged in Dmitri..and you're right across from me, i'm coming right at you. I don't care how bigger you are or stronger you are than me...I'm not intimidated by you whatsoever. You got a hell of a challenge at High Stakes VII, having to go through Calvin Harris...and many say you do have a good chance of taking back the title, but at Climax Control on Sunday...things might be just a little bit different. I mean think of it....what would happen if I pin you right in the middle of the ring...what does it mean for me? I mean..a victory over a former World Champion does mean a lot...something your tag partner can't get through his thick skull. But unlike Calvin, I'm not gonna act like this is gonna be another day at the office, I treat this as my biggest challenge to date. Sharing a ring with the Internet Champion..and two men who have held the World Heavyweight Title...can light extinguish darkness? Guess we'll have to find out.."

I then decide to open the coffin...but I don't reveal what's inside.

"And then we have his partner in crime...James Tuscini. He reminds me of one of those Vampire servants who want nothing more than to please their master. but truth being....another word can be said for Tuscini. He's nothing more than a parasitic little worm who latches his lips onto Dmitri's tit because he is afraid to walk alone...that's why he wants for the Unholy Alliance to remain a thing...because once he inevitably loses the Internet Title, he's gonna go running back to Dmitri for one more run with The Unholy Alliance. But before that happens, I wanna take my piece. This night is the beginning of the end for you Tuscini, because you have something that belongs to me, that Internet Title. I came down and looked at you face to face and I told you that that title belongs to me, and I am looking to take it by force in just a matter of weeks. But in this tag match, who knows if you're gonna make it to the Pay Per View."

The more Tuscini ran his mouth, the more I wanted to close it.

"I'll give you one thing Tuscini, you managed to defeat me, congratulations. On one night you managed to accomplish something major. See...what I did right there, is admit that I was defeated. Something that you have never done. That seems to be the whole sad ass story with you James, whenever someone comes along and defeats you, you conveniently ignore it and move along as if nothing happened. For the last few weeks you've been acting like you're this big badass dude and everyone should be afraid of you, when in reality..you're nothing more than a simple sidekick who's done nothing but get by on dumb luck. You call out Kristopher Ryans every time and he has beaten you countless times, but you act as if nothing happened. You refuse to wake up to reality and see things for what they really are. Shit..and they say Donald Trump is delusional. You live in your own little world where everyone pisses themselves in fear of you when in reality they laugh at you. Intimidator?...Please. I've seen bowls of oatmeal more intimidating than you. I looked into your eyes last week..and I was not intimidated in the slightest...but I think..I may have seen doubt in your eyes. I put my foot on your title..and you didn't do anything about it. I pretty much gave you a chance to cross the line, but you didn't bite. That tells me right there...that you're afraid. You're afraid that your title reign is gonna end very..very soon. Well, you should be afraid...at High Stakes...and this tag match."

I look down at the casket and smile before turning back to the camera man.

"I took every thing you could do to me weeks ago...and I am still standing..and I am still in your face. Just like I will be once Climax Control rolls around. I'm sure you're thanking the wrestling gods above that this match is not for the title...and I'm giving you a chance to cross the line this time. Are you gonna face me like a man....or are you gonna hide behind Dmitri like someone hiding behind their Mom and Dad? You barely made it out of our last encounter...but now I know how you play...I watched the match over and over, and while I hated it, you were the better man that night, but that doesn't mean you will be the better man this Sunday in Sydney Australia. Sure...you beat Calvin Harris which isn't an easy task to do, but the world knows that you're not gonna do it again...because you're afraid of going after him again, knowing this time you're not gonna get lucky. And while he's busy with Dmitri....there's gonna be nowhere for you to run."

I then bring the camera man over to the coffin. In it is a mannequin dressed like Tuscini, I even manage to have a wig and a Sicilian T-Shirt on it.

"High Stakes will be your final resting place...but on this night, you will get your last rites when we clash in that ring. The doubt in your eyes tells me that James Tuscini can...no...will be beat. How long was your last title reign James?...A month? Was it even that long? How long will this one be? Will this be one of the final times we see you with the Internet Title? What happens if I pin you? What happens if you're beaten by the Challenger? That will put all your dreams of the Championship into jeopardy. It doesn't matter if I run into you...it doesn't matter if I run into Dmitri.....someone is gonna get a stake through the heart.."

I reach into my coat and pull out a stake, driving it into the chest of the dummy.

"Ashes to Ashes....dust to dust..."

I look to the camera man, tipping my hat before disappearing into the darkness.

After the last few weeks I've had, I feel like relaxing...so I decided to head down to my usual hangout, Ray's Tavern, best bar in Los Angeles. It had been quite a while since I've been there, hope they remember me. And so I walk in to the sounds of people playing pool, watching the football game on TV or just chatting with one another. I walked in past some of the people and headed up to the bar. The bartender notices me and smiles.

Ray Wilkins: Well, look who shows up!

I can't help but smile...crazy old Ray always had that sense of humor.

Griffin Hawkins: Long time no see Ray...

Ray Wilkins: I'll say...we were starting to think you thought you were too good to drink with us anymore now that you've become this big star.

Griffin Hawkins: Come on Ray...you know I'd never forget this place.

Ray Wilkins: Good to hear...so what'll ya have?

Griffin Hawkins: Just one beer...I'm not gonna stay long, wife's cooking dinner tonight.

Ray Wilkins: True Boy Scout till the end. That'll be a dollar.

I put a dollar down as he pours me some beer in a small glass. It really felt good to be back in my old hangout, but I didn't have time to reminisce about the old times. I noticed a familiar young man sitting a few bar stools down from me. I go down to investigate him..he had short brown hair and looked to be in his early 30s to late 20s.

Griffin Hawkins: ...Aiden?

He then turns around and looks to me.

Aiden Ravencroft: Well surprise surprise.

Aiden was Amanda's brother...heir to the Ravencroft throne. He was set to take over as soon as his father Clark and his mother Cassandra steps down. Me and him...didn't exactly get along a long time ago due to family tension..so I was unsure of what was gonna happen.

Griffin Hawkins: ...Is this stool taken?

Aiden Ravencroft: Nah...I ain't waiting for anybody. Knock yourself out.

I slowly sit down beside him.

Griffin Hawkins: You were the last person I expected to see in here..I mean no offense but your family is a pretty big deal in this city..

Aiden Ravencroft: Hey, rich or poor...I always enjoy a good beer after a long day of work.

Griffin Hawkins: Yeah, me too.

This was probably the first conversation me and him ever had..not a bad start so far.

Aiden Ravencroft: Listen um...Griff, I know back in the day I've been kind of a dick to you. I had a lot of personal problems going on and..I may have taken them out on you which was pretty messed up.

Griffin Hawkins: Hey it's okay man...we all were going through something back then.

Aiden Ravencroft: That still doesn't make it right...I mean why should I hate somebody just because they are the family's competition? So right now I wanna put all this shit behind us and start a new.

Griffin Hawkins: ...I'd like that.

He smiles and takes a sip of his beer.

Aiden Ravencroft: So..what brings you to this place?

Griffin Hawkins: Oh just having a beer...seeing some old friends, you?

Aiden Ravencroft: Eh..just need a place to unwind.

Griffin Hawkins: Then why do you look so stressed?

He looks down in his glass before taking a deep breath.

Aiden Ravencroft: Can I confide in you with something?

Griffin Hawkins: Sure..

Aiden Ravencroft: The old man is stressing me out..talking about me taking over the company when he retires.

Griffin Hawkins: Well..is this what you want? I mean you don't have to follow in his footsteps.

Aiden Ravencroft: Oh no..I do. It's just that...I dunno if I can do it. Running a hotel franchise is a huge deal. I'm gonna have a million people depending on me. If I screw up, it'll kill the company.

Griffin Hawkins: Well you've obviously been paying attention to the old man over the last few years of your life, I think you'll do great.

Aiden Ravencroft: A lot of times I wish I had my sister's guts...Amanda was always a free spirit, I always got pressure put on me because I am the oldest.

Griffin Hawkins: I see..so..what are you gonna do?

Aiden Ravencroft: I don't know...

Just then a young lady with brown hair comes up to me, running her hand down my shoulder.

Lola: Hey handsome...care to buy me a drink?...

Griffin Hawkins: Sorry miss, I'm married.

Lola: She doesn't really have to know..

Griffin Hawkins: Really ma'am..I..

Just then I see her boyfriend come up to me.

Chad: Hey..the fuck you doing hitting on my girl?

I had a feeling she was trying to get him jealous.

Griffin Hawkins: Look man she came on to me..I wanted nothing to do with her.

Chad: But that didn't stop you from checking her out now did it?

Griffin Hawkins: Dude..I don't want any trouble..

He then started shoving me, I had to defend myself somehow...but before I could, Aiden got up and knocked him senseless with one punch. I was shocked as hell to see that. He straightens his suit jacket as he looks down on the man as his girlfriend helps him out.

Griffin Hawkins: ...Holy shit man!

He just smirks.

Aiden Ravencroft: You can repay me by buying me another drink.

I couldn't help but accept. I had no idea how bad he had it though...he was going to ascend to a higher point in his life and he wasn't ready for it...yet he defended me tonight. I think he might be ready for the next step..I hope I am.

----------------------------------------------

~Many years ago~

I was happy Marquis took me in...another person wouldn't have given a chance on some street kid who just tried to rip them off, but yet...he took me in which was really surprising.

But there was something else I had yet to discover.

One night I had decided to get some Pizza at the same place we ate at when we first met. I figured he was probably hungry so I got a full box of it..a meat lovers pizza. After paying for it, I decide to make the trip home...thankfully his apartment was right down the block. The smell of the pizza was so intoxicating and I couldn't wait to share it with Marquis. But as I headed into the neighborhood, I heard what sounded like a struggle. I figured I should just keep walking before whoever's hurting the other hurts me. But I thought I heard Marquis' voice. I decide to go down the alley to investigate. As I slowly walk though the alley I see the fight...and it turns out it was Marquis. Some thug was fighting with him in the alley, I go to help him but what happened next shocked me. I watched as his fangs sank into his neck. I drop the Pizza in shock. He turns to me...realizing I was there this whole time.

Marquis Laveaux: ....Griffin...

With a shriek, I run away out of the alley....I kept questioning what I just saw...did he just bite into that man's neck? I didn't stick around long enough to ask...for all I know I could've been next. I keep running until I come to a dead end. Before I could leave I see Marquis coming over, blood still around his lip.

Marquis Laveaux: Griff....

Griffin Hawkins: Get the fuck away from me man!

Marquis Laveaux: Just calm down..

Griffin Hawkins: Calm down!? You just mauled that guy like a mountain lion on a antelope! I will not calm down!

Marquis Laveaux: If you just listen to me it will all make sense..please.

I really didn't know whether to run away or stay...but something told me to listen to him.

Griffin Hawkins: Okay...

Marquis Laveaux: I know it's not easy for you to believe...but I'm a Vampire.

I just look at him oddly. Is he serious?

Griffin Hawkins: That's your explanation?...you're a Vampire?

Marquis Laveaux: When was the last time you saw somebody bite into someone else's neck?

Griffin Hawkins: Vampires aren't real..it's just in movies like Dracula or The Lost Boys, I never seen a real life Vampire before.

Marquis Laveaux: That's just typical Hollywood garbage...I'm the real deal.

Griffin Hawkins: ....This is all too weird...

Marquis Laveaux: I know it's all hard for you to take..I was gonna tell you eventually..

Griffin Hawkins: Before...or after you kill me?

Marquis Laveaux: Why would i kill you? I took you in when you didn't have a home.

Griffin Hawkins: How do I know I can trust you?...

Marquis Laveaux: You're just gonna have to take your chances. When I said that you reminded me of myself when I was younger..I meant myself in my former life, before I became this. Back when I ran from my problems and didn't have anybody.

That's one thing we seem to have in common..

Griffin Hawkins: ...I understand.

Marquis Laveaux: I promise...as long as you stay by my side, I'm not gonna hurt you.

I look him in the eyes...looking for sincerity.

Griffin Hawkins: ....Well, I guess this means I'm gonna have to eat that Pizza all by myself...seeing as you had your dinner tonight.

He just smirks.

Marquis Laveaux: I'm sure Tristian will help you eat it..let's go home.

We walk away out of the alley. I had to be out of my mind...I have a Vampire for a friend, what was gonna happen to me from here on? If I only knew...

-------------------------------------

Cameras open in a different place for once...Home Depot. It's obviously after hours seeing as no one else is there. Luckily I'm good friends with the manager, having bought all my hardcore weapons in the past from this store. I sit uptop on what looks to be a tall ladder, dressed in black ripped jeans and a Rocky Horror Picture Show T-Shirt. I look down at the camera man and begin to speak.

"Success...the one thing that everyone thirsts for. We all want to climb the proverbial ladder rung by rung until we reach up and snatch the brass ring. We are looking to ascend to the next level. Sometimes we succeed....sometimes we stumble. In my career I have faced adversity. It always seems no matter what...every time I wanted something, someone was there to stop me. Someone was there to keep me back...thinking I don't deserve to have the success that I desire. Last week...Christian Underwood came out to tell me...that I don't deserve to be the number one contender. Sure..I beat Ryan Keys and made him tap out in the middle of the ring...by all rights I should be first in line for a shot. But he wants me to earn it...despite beating the Internet Champion fair and square in the middle of the ring. I have to fight James Tuscini..the former Champion in a ladder match for the right to become number one contender. But hey...I'm not gonna complain. Because once again this is my chance to prove that I am Championship material by putting my body on the line in one of the most dangerous matches in SCW. I'm willing to do whatever it takes to climb that ladder and take what is rightfully mine. And as much I respect James Tuscini..business is business, and I gotta do what I gotta do if I want to become Champion. Christian Underwod can throw as much trash in my way  he wants..but nothing will stop me from becoming SCW Internet Champion."

I slowly begin descending the ladder slowly, continuing to speak as I reach the bottom.

"Let's talk about the challenger himself...James Tuscini....the Italian Dragon. This man has had quite a career here..former Internet Champion...multi time Roulette Champion..2016 Rookie of the year. This man is no pushover. In a lot of ways I respect him. He's like a modern day Rocky Balboa...he's got all this passion, all this heart, all this determination to be the best at what he does today. I'm not taking anything away from him whatsoever because he is a hell of an athlete. But this...this is no movie. The good guy is not gonna ride off into the sunset. This is reality. And the reality is...James Tuscini is standing in my way of becoming the number one contender to the Internet Title. In this ladder match...I am looking to pull out all the stops. I've won Championships before in ladder matches, and I onetime won a World Title Briefcase in one. I ask Tuscini to bring everything he has if he wants to win this. But it seems lately...he doesn't know what he wants.."

I figured he needed to listen to this for himself.

"It seems as of late you have been all over the place...wanting to go for the tag titles, then later the internet title, and then having some little cat fight with Dmitri...and all this was last week on Climax Control! You seem to have a million things going on at once..running around starting fires and starting wars that you don't need to fight. But I wonder if I have all of your attention with all the gaga that's going on. Quite frankly, for your sake I hope I do. Because this is your chance to reclaim your Internet Title, and if you blow it...that'll be just another failed endeavor on your career highlights. Me, I'm different. Before I had aspirations to go for any titles...I made sure to get rid of that annoying pain in my ass Steve Ramone. After I sent him packing...there was nobody else stopping me from carving my own path to success here in SCW. Unlike you...I have no distractions holding me back. I don't have like a million people following me around wherever I go trying to decide things for me. Everything I've done, I've done on my own...and I set my goals one at a time. I'm looking to become the Internet Champion..everything else is secondary."

I wanted Tuscini to be focused...if I win this match I don't want any excuses.

"I also wanna ask you something James...you really think that Dmitri gives a shit about you? You really think he's your BFF? I saw the look in his eyes last week when you asked him for a title shot should he retain his belt..and what does your oh so good friend do? He turned you down like the prettiest girl in school turning down the class nerd...making excuses claiming you haven't proven yourself. Hell..you're the reason he's no longer Champion today. Don't you get it yet? He is using you...you're nothing more than a puppet to him. He pulls the strings and you dance. Hell, I bet when you wanna go to the bathroom you have to raise your hand and ask permission...he probably wipes your ass for you too. I bet if he told you to put on a dress and dance you'd do it in a heartbeat. Last week you had a chance to tell him that you and him are done..but you didn't. When was the last time you stood on your own two feet? When was the last time you were a man? It's almost as if you have Stockholm Syndrome. Hell..you should be in conversation with the powers that be about an actual shot at the World Heavyweight Title seeing as you beat Calvin Harris a few weeks ago...but no, you're gonna allow your oh so good friend Dmitri to go for it while you remain in his shadow. You made mention on Climax Control last week how you're gonna be a singles champion by the end of the year....but are you gonna be a champion?...or are you gonna continue to be Dmitri's little bitch? I want to ascend to the next level in my SCW career..while you would rather stay on the same level you've been on in the last few months"

I just shake my head.

"Your problem James is you're willing to settle for being mediocre. You beat Calvin Harris in a non title match...but you're not gonna go for the title because you know for a fact that you won't get so lucky like you did before. On Climax Control you mentioned you're actually PROUD of the fact that you got eliminated third in the Tag Team Battle Royal. I mean..that's an accomplishment to you? That's like being the smartest kid in a special school.

And now the Internet Title is in your sights..and if you want it...you gotta climb this ladder you see here to get it. But there's also a possibility that you will NOT be the number one contender...chances are it may be me who climbs up and grabs that briefcase...and I'm not gonna waste any time once it's in my arms. My eyes are on that belt...and you are just another obstacle for me to overcome. For you...it'll be just another title chance that you failed to get for yourself. See, you already lost the title to Ryan Keys at Violent Conduct IV, and this chance at redemption won't go as well as you think. Because as far as I'm concerned, you're looking at the next Sin City Wrestling Internet Champion."

James Tuscini was a big chance for me to prove myself, I wasn't gonna take it lightly.

"Now....this match is a ladder match. There's no rules....no pinfalls..no submissions..and no excuses.

See, this isn't my first ladder match as I said earlier...I didn't just decide this match on a whim. I decided this match so I can prove myself that I am willing to put my body on the line...that I am willing to risk my well being..that I am willing to put my life on the line just to become Champion. Anyone who has followed my career knows that I know how to bring it in a ladder match....but you probably haven't done your homework on me. You're not prepared for what I'm gonna do to you. You don't know the lengths I'll go just to reach up and grab that contract...but in a matter of days....you'll know. By the end of the match...you will know. You will know why I am bar none one of the greatest athletes in the sport today. I realize you're this...bad ass Italian who takes no shit from anybody, and judging by your matches as of late, you live up to your moniker. But the truth is...you have never faced an athlete like me in your life.

You're gonna know first hand what Griffin Hawkins is all about."

I begin to climb the ladder until I stop right in the middle of it.

"Sad thing is Jimmy...is that if Christian was thinking...which isn't his strong suit, this all would have been settled in a simple way. I would've had no problem giving you a title shot after I beat Ryan Keys. Hell, I wouldn't even had minded if this was a Triple Threat Ladder Match...yet...here we are. You and me...for that contract that's gonna be hanging high above our heads. I got no problem with it honestly...I mean, I have been in many ladder matches in my career and this one is no different. Because once that bell rings...there is going be nobody to stop me from taking that contract. And you can bring your little entourage...Winky and Blinky or whatever the hell their names are to give you that extra advantage...but it makes no difference. You and Christian are only delaying the inevitable. I beat the Internet Champion last week...and as far as I'm concerned, I'm the uncrowned Internet Champion. But for it to be official, I'm gonna go through you. Do people think I'm gonna come all this way only to get stopped by the forgotten Mario Brother? I don't think so. If you think you hit rock bottom at Violent Conduct IV when you lost the Internet Title...trust me..you're gonna feel a lot worse after this Sunday."

I then climb some more until I am on top of the ladder, looking down at the camera man.

"The view from here is...quite nice. But the one thing that will make this view even better...is when I am holding the the contract to the Internet Title Match over my head. I am on a mission to ascend to an even higher plain..and you, you'll continue to drop further and further down the ladder of success here in SCW. I'm no stranger to gold...and the one gold that catches my eye....is the same one you're after. There can only be one winner of this match, and that is gonna be me. I'm not looking past you at all to get my hands on Ryan Keys once again, because I consider you a threat in that ring. You've held gold many times and you put on some damn good matches and you pulled out some impressive victories. But none of them have been against me, and that is not gonna change. So you got till now and Sunday to prepare for this match....because if you're not ready for me and the pain and carnage that I'm about to bring...then you'll lose. You'll have no choice but to sit back and watch as I go on to defeat Ryan Keys to become Internet Champion. As a matter of fact....he's gonna have a front row seat to this event. I want him to see everything that I do to you. Till then....sleep well."

The camera man pans away from me, turning off everything and ending the segment.

When I'm away from the ring, the only place I want to be with is my family. My wife Taylor and my kids Braden and Bryce have always been waiting for me when I come home. On this occasion, I decided to introduce my family to Amanda. She and I went way back and she seemed to always be there for me when I needed a friend. She hit it off great with Taylor...and the kids seemed to love her as they showed them their arts and crafts projects. As the day went on she learned about everything I had done with Taylor since meeting up with her again. Later on in the day I decided to relax on the deck outside in my lounge chair, looking out as the sun starts going down. She came up to me, a glass of lemonade in her hand.

Amanda Ravencroft: Hey there...mind if I join you?

Griffin Hawkins: Not at all, make yourself comfortable.

Amanda Ravencroft: Thanks.

She smiles and sits in the other lounge chair next to me.

Griffin Hawkins: So...what do you think of everything?

Amanda Ravencroft: I think you've done pretty well for yourself. Taylor is a really nice person..she's very friendly and passionate.

Griffin Hawkins: Glad you think so.

Amanda Ravencroft: So what's she doing with you?...

Griffin Hawkins: Very funny..

She laughs a bit, she always had that sense of humor.

Amanda Ravencroft: But really though, I'm proud of you. You have a great family..this big house..and you did it all on your own without help from anyone.

Griffin Hawkins: I'm really proud of that.

Amanda Ravencroft: It actually made me think about some things...

Griffin Hawkins: Like what?...

She looks nervous as she takes another gulp of Lemonade.

Amanda Ravencroft: I wanna try my luck out there..like you did.

Griffin Hawkins: You mean like...leave your family?

Amanda Ravencroft: Well this isn't me leaving them behind...I just want to try and do my own thing. I want to accomplish things my own way.

Griffin Hawkins: Well..what do you want to do?

Amanda Ravencroft: Well, I wouldn't mind doing some real estate stuff.

Griffin Hawkins: How does Dexter feel about this?..

Amanda Ravencroft: Well..he's always been supportive of what I want to do, I'm sure he'll have no problem with this.

Griffin Hawkins: And where are you gonna live? You gonna move in with him?

Amanda Ravencroft: That's the idea.

Griffin Hawkins: I see.

Amanda Ravencroft: You think it's stupid, I know..

Griffin Hawkins: No..no of course not. If this is what you want to do, you should just go for it. I'm sure it gets boring just sitting in that house all alone...you gotta give it a shot.

She smiles sweetly, glad that I am supportive of her.

Amanda Ravencroft: It'll be nice to finally do something on my own for a change.

Griffin Hawkins: Hey...how about if you stay for dinner? We're having Lasagna.

Amanda Ravencroft: Sounds like my kind of meal..okay.

We continue to talk for the time out there, I was happy that she decided her future, let's just hope it's the right one.

~Many years ago~

These days when you think of celebrating your birthday...you go out to dinner, go to a party...or even go out and see your favorite band perform.

I had things a little bit different.

Before I was kicked out, I got involved with a bad type of crowd in a frat house downtown. The leader of them was none other than Julian Graves. I didn't have many watching my back...so he was more like a big brother figure to me...a big brother who exposes you to a lot of dirty vices. He decided since I turned 18...he was going to take me to a strip club.

This was awkward.

I had never really done anything like this before...I wasn't really sure of it in the first place. But Julian insisted that I go because it'd be a good experience for me. We drove up to the Strip Club..he smirked as I looked unsure about this place.

Julian Graves: Trust me Griff...you're in for the night of your life.

Griffin Hawkins: I dunno man...this...doesn't look like my kinda scene..

Julian Graves: Come on man...you only turn 18 once...you gotta live!

Griffin Hawkins: I guess so...

We walk into the strip club...and its pretty much what you'd expect. Nothing but guys getting their money out, making it rain as the strippers dance for them.

Julian Graves: Okay Charlie...welcome to the Chocolate Factory.

Griffin Hawkins: The place looks lively tonight..

Julian Graves: It's lively every night my friend..figured it was best to bring you here.

We took our seats as the beautifully scantly clad women came over, grinding for us. Julian looked to be in paradise as he sat back, puffing on his cigar. I just felt nervous...trying hard to hide it.

Julian Graves: Come on Griff...don't be shy, she likes you.

He smiled from ear to ear, enjoying this. I felt really awkward...this is my first time in front of a near naked woman. I honestly wished I could get out of there...just then I heard a female voice.

"Julian?"

I looked and saw Taylor coming in. In those days..she was his girlfriend. I first met her at the frat house and we hit it off good, she seemed to have my best interests at heart...unlike Julian.

Julian Graves: Hey baby...whats going on?

Taylor Michaels: I heard you guys were here..

Julian Graves: Just taking the birthday boy out for some fun..nothing wrong with that.

Taylor Michaels: I see...

I think of an excuse to get out of there, getting out of my chair.

Griffin Hawkins: I think I better go, it's getting late. My parents will kill me if I'm not back by curfew.

Julian Graves: Griff come on man, you're gonna miss all the fun!

Taylor Michaels: I think I'll drive him home Julian..

Julian Graves: Fine..whatever..

I was relieved to get out of there, hopefully I didn't embarrass myself in front of Taylor. Soon we drove up to my house.

Taylor Michaels: I'm...sorry about Julian. He thought he was doing the right thing, but just did it in a messed up way.

Griffin Hawkins: It's cool, I'm just glad you saved my ass and got me out of there, I owe you.

Taylor Michaels: You don't owe me anything..this is what friends do. Plus..I got you something for your birthday..

She pulls a box in gift wrap from behind the seat.

Griffin Hawkins: Oh...thank you...

I open the box and it's a black leather rocker jacket. I can't believe my eyes.

Griffin Hawkins: Oh my God....

She smiles, liking my reaction.

Taylor Michaels: I saw how you were looking at it in the mall a few weeks ago..so I saved up and got it for you. Go ahead, put it on.

I slide on the jacket..fits like a glove.

Griffin Hawkins: It fits..

Taylor Michaels: Great! Something told me it was your size.

Griffin Hawkins: Wow, thank you..I..I don't know what to say...

Taylor Michaels: Your birthday only comes once Griffin..you deserve something special.

Griffin Hawkins: Thank you Taylor...when your birthday comes around, I'll get you something special.

Taylor Michaels: I'm sure whatever you think of will be fine. Anyways you better get going before your Mom and Dad start wondering where you are.

Griffin Hawkins: Okay, seeya later.

I get out of the car and head inside. Nobody had ever given me a special gift like this before. I didn't know why..but I felt like there was something special about her.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Cameras come to the side of a building on this night. I have my hands in the pocket of my jeans as I rest against the wall, clad in a leather jacket and a Rob Zombie T-Shirt.

"Heh Heh...I called it didn't I? Last Pay Per View....Griffin Hawkins...Steve Ramone...the Street Fight in Sin City. We brawled all over the city of Vegas...hitting eachother with whatever we can find...from casinos..to restaurants...and back to the arena. I proved without a shadow of a doubt who the better man is when I beat Steve Ramone in his last ever match. With him in my rear view mirror....I got bigger plans....plans to get gold around my waist. You could say that's a vice for me...Championships. We all have vices in life....sex....drugs...alcohol...anything that gives us the drive to push on through. A few years ago those were my vices....things are different now. My only interests are rock music...wrestling..and winning titles. This week I am in the ring with a champion. I find this very...very interesting. Because a victory over him....would really open the doors for many title chances in the future. I've already proven that I can beat anyone in the streets...now I want to prove myself once again in that ring."

I then make a "come here" motion to the camera man as he follows me. I walk into the building and it looks to be a strip club. Women are dancing everywhere.

"Now..normally, I don't frequent places like this unless it's a bachelor party...but I'm here to prove a point. I decided to go back to the past of Ryan Keys...sure, this is a female strip club and not a male, but the point remains the same...besides, it'd be totally awkward if I walked into a male strip club looking the way I do..but that's beside the point. Ryan Keys left this lifestyle behind...the life of debauchery...the dancing..the bright lights and all the hoopla...to join the one sport that showcases everyone's true abilities. As of Violent Conduct IV, he is the NEW Internet Champion. I take my hat off to that...hell of a match dude, proved yourself there. But I wouldn't break out the Champagne just yet...because this week, you're gonna be in the ring with The Rock Soldier...one on one. I just got done with the most brutal Street Fight of my life and I've already proven that I'll do whatever it takes to win. So if I were you, I wouldn't worry about my title Ryan...I think I'd be more worried about joining Steve Ramone in the unemployment line."

I walk down the stairs as the camera man follows me.

"You and I....as crazy as it sounds...are not so different Ryan. Both of us live some...interesting life styles...myself as a singer of a metal band...you as a male stripper. We both have interesting day jobs...but when it comes to the ring, that's where our art truly is. And the both of us go out and steal the show at every arena all over the country. Some would say it's like looking into a mirror. The both of us want to be the best, you fought through hell to get that Internet Title...I myself took my fight to the streets and made it back in one piece. The both of us are riding high after our victories. And now....we both face eachother. In what many would say may be the match of the night, I am looking very forward to fighting you in that ring..and this time...I won't have to look over my shoulder to see if someone is out to screw me out of a victory. This for sure will be a fair one on one match between two of the best athletes on the SCW Roster. You wrestle every match, making sure to put on a show...well, this is your chance to really prove yourself. Show the world that you are without a doubt a Champion that will represent SCW. But I hope you know...that I'm looking to prove myself as well."

One of the strippers come up to me, giving me a flirty look.

"Sorry miss..I'm married."

She looks disappointed and walks away.

"Anyways...this match...is not for the Internet Title. But however...what if I was to beat you in this match? Then what does it say for you? In your first outing...you lose to somebody in a non title match? Another question...what does it mean for me? I hold a victory over the Internet Champion....I guess that also means I should be in line for a title shot right? I figured so. And so I thought about it....and quite frankly, I don't think i'd mind having a shot at your belt. This isn't me demanding a shot Ryan...because that's not me. But this is a non title match and if I'm victorious, then that makes me the number one contender. And knowing the kind of Champion you are..the kind of Champion you want to be, you'll have no problem giving me a shot at your belt. I came to SCW on a mission...I came here to continue my legacy. I came here to prove once again that I am the best in the industry..and for me to prove that, I have to face the best...and if that means you...I look very forward to it Ryan."

I respected Ryan Keys, anyone who was willing enough to fight for a title like that..has to be the real deal.

"You seem to be my kinda guy to step in the ring with Ryan...someone who goes balls to the wall, never stops fighting until the bell rings and his hand is raised in victory. That is what I am counting on from you. I know the minute that bell rings you're gonna be all over me like a fat kid on a cupcake...and you should. You're not an idiot Ryan...I know you likely consider me a threat. You see this as a major test for you. Well, I see the same thing. I have goals and aspirations to become the SCW World Heavyweight Champion one day...and what better way to prove myself...then to beat one of it's Champions.  So as much as you have been riding high as the new Internet Champion after defeating James Tuscini in a hard fought match...it's gonna come crashing down courtesy of The Jukebox Hero himself...Griffin Hawkins. It wasn't that long ago that I was wearing gold around my waist...and I think it's time I start wearing it again....starting with yours."

I walk over to the bar, asking for one shot of Bourbon. As he pours me the drink, I hold it in my hands.

"This is indeed a lively place that I'm sure you're used to...but instead of making it rain...having money thrown at you....it's gonna be raining fists once the match begins. But I don't want you to think that I am being cocky and taking you lightly Ryan....truth being I think you're a hell of a talent and you've got a damn good future here in SCW. I'm not overlooking you....but there is a fine line between cockiness...and confidence. And I have plenty of confidence in me that I'll go in to New Zealand...and walk out the winner. If you are man enough to beat me, I'll take my hat off to you and admit that you were the better man on this night. But we don't know what's gonna happen until it's us one on one. So right now....I raise my glass...as a toast. Two of the most exciting athletes in SCW today...one on one....may the best man win."

I down the glass..kind of tastes bitter.

"Seeya in New Zealand.."

I smile and walk away as the camera man of course focuses on the strippers.

In addition to wrestling and my band, I also have an interesting job. These days everyone is out for themselves. People are out to cheat others, people who only care about themselves. So I took it upon myself to open a little business. You could say it's a Detective Agency. I already solved a successful case months ago and I figured I could help more people.

I'm not doing this for money.

I'm doing this for the helpless...I only hope I can make things better for everyone. On Monday I was sitting in the office reading over the newspaper, checking for any current events that would help me out. I then hear the voice of my secretary on the intercom.

Kaydence Montgomery - Griff? There's someone here that wants to see you.

Griffin Hawkins: Cool, send her in..

In walks a young woman with brown hair, around 27. She has a bright smile on her face.

Griffin Hawkins: Amanda!

It was my old friend from my teenage years...Amanda Ravencroft, heiress of the Ravencroft fortune. The media saw her as this spoiled little princess, but I knew she was far from that. We embrace in a hug.

Amanda Ravencroft: Long time no see!

Griffin Hawkins: I'll say, how you've been?

Amanda Ravencroft: Oh..pretty good. What about you? How's your son? Is the little guy keeping you up at night?

Griffin Hawkins: Yeah, he takes after me after all.

Amanda Ravencroft: That's good to know.

Griffin Hawkins: So what brings you here? Did you come to catch up?

I notice the expression on her face go from happiness to seriousness.

Amanda Ravencroft: I wish it was all that was. Griff...I think my Dad might be up to something..

Griffin Hawkins: Look if it's about him not approving of you seeing that new guy, you need to tell him you're a grown man.

Amanda Ravencroft: It's not about that...I think my Dad might be up to something..

Griffin Hawkins: You mean like...Illegal?

Amanda Ravencroft: Dexter had found some...documents in his office before he got fired. It looked to be a huge sum of money owed to some guy named Samson.

Griffin Hawkins: Your Dad's the CEO of the hotel business Amanda, of course he's gonna owe money.

Amanda Ravencroft: I've checked around, no one in the hotel business has the name Samson..

Griffin Hawkins: So...why do you come to me?

Amanda Ravencroft: I want you to check it out...see what's going on.

Griffin Hawkins: Amanda..this could be dangerous, I don't even know what he's hiding..I got a family to think about, my wife and two kids..what if something happens to me?

Amanda Ravencroft: Nothing will happen unless you blow your cover. Just be secretive about it...

Griffin Hawkins: Amanda I don't know...

Amanda Ravencroft: Please?..You're always helping everyone out, I figure I can come to you. I can't go to the cops, I have no proof..and if I go to him, he'll deny it. You're my last hope.

I can see she really wants this...I had never seen anyone beg me this much for help.

Griffin Hawkins: ...Okay, I'll do it.

She cheers happily, excited.

Amanda Ravencroft: Oh my God thank you!

Griffin Hawkins: But if anything gets traced back to me, I'll deny it. Just letting you know.

Amanda Ravencroft: I understand.

Griffin Hawkins: I'll go down to the hotel and see what I can find..

Amanda Ravencroft: Okay! Good luck!

She left the office as I sat back at my desk. What did I just get myself into? This probably was gonna be my most dangerous case. My only hope is nobody gets hurt out of this.

------------------------------------------------------

Many Years Ago...

When I was still a struggling young rookie in the old days...I got chopped to hell on a daily basis. I came home sore every night. But there was one thing that I enjoyed which seemed less painful to go through...

Poker.

We would all meet in the arena every Wednesday Night to play. I decided to ask my longtime friend Melinda Rhodes

to join me for this occasion...I could use the good luck charm.

Melinda Rhodes: If it's strip poker, I'll choke you with my bra.

Griffin Hawkins: What?! No this is nothing like that! Just a straight game of poker.

Melinda Rhodes:  Alright, but it's been awhile.  I'm rusty as fuck and haven't played since I was fifteen against my aunt.... who I swear was cheating.

Griffin Hawkins: Great! I just need you in this game with me so I don't feel alone.

Melinda Rhodes: Fine, but you owe me big for this.

We head to the locker room where the others are waiting. Some are vets and and some are rookies just like me, looking more inexperienced than I do. Me and Mel take our seat as an old middle aged man walks in and sits at the table. This was the best Poker player in the locker room.."Diamond" Joe Blackston. Nobody had ever beaten him..

I knew I was in over my head. As I got the cards ready, I looked them over. Mel looked at me oddly.

Melinda Rhodes: What are you doing?

Griffin Hawkins: Looking over my cards?

Melinda Rhodes: You're supposed to have a poker face you goof, show me your poker face.

I give my best Poker face..trying to look serious.

Melinda Rhodes: You look like you just got done jacking off with Icy Hot...but that will have to do.

Throughout the game, I did my best to hang in there. I dunno how I lasted this long, luck had to have been on my side. The guys around the table dropped out one by one. Diamond Joe was a serious shark, I could see him looking me over.

Diamond Joe: It ain't too late for you to give up boy..spare yourself the humiliation and leave your money on the table.

I hated that arrogant southern accent of his...I wanted to wipe the smirk off his face.

Griffin Hawkins: No Joe...I'm in this till the end.

All the others eventually lost, leaving their money. Even Melinda lost the game, but she lasted longer than me. He decided to lay it down as the smirk spreads across his face.

Griffin Hawkins: Alright Joe...what do you got?

He laid down his cards...three sevens and two tens.

Diamond Joe: Full House...what you got pretty boy?

Griffin Hawkins: Oh man...all I got is four..

A small laugh escapes him.

Diamond Joe: Sorry bout your luck..

Griffin Hawkins: ....Four of a Kind.

His arrogant smirk leaves his face. I had beaten Diamond Joe at his own game. I get up and have my hand out.

Griffin Hawkins: Alright slick...pony up the money.

He reaches in his wallet and pulls out a hundred dollar bill...the same hundred I bet in this game.

Griffin Hawkins: Dude..this is a hundred..see I won, so you owe me more money.

Diamond Joe: Get lost kid, don't make me knock your teeth down your throat.

I couldn't believe this jackass was welshing on me.

Griffin Hawkins: Why you gotta cheat for man? You know what? I'm gonna tell all the guys when it comes to playing Poker..Diamond Joe likes to cheat.

He then slowly gets up.

Diamond Joe: You need to watch that mouth of yours boy..or I'm gonna shut it for you.

Mel saw the whole thing and decided to stand between us.

Melinda Rhodes - Easy Griff, easy...just calm down. I'm a master negotiator..I'm skilled in this area.

As she turned around, in one swift motion, she kicked Joe right in the groin, then deliver a quick punch, sending him into the poker table, knocking it over. As he lied there holding his privates in pain, Mel reaches into his pocket and gets the wallet, taking two 50 dollar bills out before dropping it at his feet.

Melinda Rhodes: Pleasure doing business with you Joe.

She hands me the money as we both leave the area, but we come across about three huge guys who don't look happy with what just happened. They happened to be friends of Joe.

Griffin Hawkins: Listen guys uh..it's been fun but we gotta go..seeya!

We both rush past them and run off as they chase us out of the arena. My Poker playing skills surely paid off on this night, little did I know, everything from here would be a much bigger gamble.

------------------------------------------------------

Cameras come to the arena, I am in the hallway sitting at the bottom of the stairs dressed in black leather pants and a Motorhead "Ace of Spades" T-Shirt. In my hands look to be a deck of cards. I begin playing with them for a while before looking to the camera man.

"Many say...we're all dealt cards in the game of life. Sometimes it's good...sometimes it's bad. Sometimes we are satisfied with it...sometimes we try and change our destiny. My whole life I've always been dealt a different kind of card...I would sometimes succeed, other times I'd fail. But I realize that I can't reshuffle the deck. When I came to this company...I knew I'd be playing Poker with a couple of sharks, people who had worked their entire lives to get to this point. I honestly didn't know what would happen to me last week. But as fate would have it, Damian Payne got the Royal Flush as I ascended to the winner's circle. My debut went off without a hitch...but this time it's different. I face a whole different kind of animal, he goes by the name of Samuel Devereux. A man who has spent his whole life gambling on fate...and for the most part it seems to have paid off. But two major players will collide...Denmark's Gambit....and The Rock Soldier. The both of us are playing a high stakes game, and only one will walk out the winner and all the money. While I respect the man for all he's done...I am looking forward to this challenge as I move on through SCW."

It's hard to prepare for someone like this. He was a unique kind of guy who was looking to make a name for himself.

I draw a King of Clubs from the deck, laying it down.

"The King.....something we all desire to be. Ruler of the Sin City Kingdom. I've sat upon many thrones in my career as King...but not in this company. And in your promo, you were right. You and me Sammy....we're not so different. We're both to be perceived as odd....not like everyone else. We both want to be King. The both of us have yet to find some success in Sin City, who knows which road we will go after this match....but know this. I do what it takes to win. I have never been in the ring with someone like you in quite a while, but I've beaten down a lot of weird and wacky dudes in my long career...and while they seemed eccentric with the ability to get into your head.....they are all human. They are flesh and blood just like you and me. The preview of this show said that you are an enigma, a strange man who is hard to figure out. While you are an odd individual...one way or another I will find your weakness. And when that happens....you'll be out of the game."

Devereux was someone who was different from Damian Payne, not someone who relies on strength alone.

"Quite Honestly Sam....I don't really got a problem with you. Hell, I kinda like your style. The whole card thing, reminds me of Gambit from X-Men. But while I do respect you, business is business. I came to this company to prove that I am the best in the industry. That's the same reason you came back here. Just sitting at home watching all these guys claim they are the best at what they do...that gives you the itch to come back. While I am happy for the birth of your baby girl...I have to do what I have to do. And I expect no less from you Samuel. Unlike Damian Payne who looked to be dumber than a bag of sand...you look like somebody who knows their way around the ring. That's why I am looking most forward to step in the ring with you. Hell, this actually excites me. I'm not getting some run of the mill jabroni like Payne this week, I'm facing someone who's a step up. A victory over you Sammy....that would make my stock rise even higher."

For the next card, I put down the Jack of Spades.

"Oh yeah...The Jack. The song AC/DC made a song about. Just a rank beneath the King and Queen. He's also called a Knave...but Jack is more common. In France, the card was referred to as the Valet, and referred between the King and the Knight...leaving the Jack...or should I say...Valet remaining in the deck. You and me Sam..we're Jacks...we are currently right now in the opening card in SCW Climax, but the both of us want more. We both want to eventually go from opening the show...to closing it in the main event. The both of us want to be SCW Champion...and that may be one of us someday. So it's inevitable that we fight in that ring. Two Jacks squaring off to see who will eventually be King...I'm looking very forward to this battle..."

I then take another card out, laying it down.

"What would a King be without his faithful Queen? The Queen card outranks the Jack and the Knight.
I know you want to do everything to please your Queen...I know the feeling. My wife and my children were sitting front row last week as I achieved victory. Everything I do...I do for them. We both do everything for our family, we do right by them. So you know that in this match, I am looking to do everything it takes to win this. To me, family is always important. I swore to my newborn son last year that I would do the right thing by him no matter what it takes.  I will fight for my family every day...just like you do. Family is important to us, that is what makes this match interesting. I know you want to make your baby girl proud of you..just like I want to make my son proud of me. So I say we go out there and not just make our family proud, let's make every fan who paid a ticket to see the show of a lifetime proud. Griffin Hawkins and Samuel Devereux, two superstars who have never met before on any stage. In this match, I will do whatever it takes to leave with my hand raised."

I had heard a lot about Samuel, part of me was excited to test my skills against him.

"You are indeed an enigma Sammy, weird and strange. You're not like that other musclehead I facedwho thought might makes right, you are a unique individual. You have an unorthodox style that...interests me. While mine on the other hand is simple. But every style has a weakness....mine has many...but if I can find your weakness....I will go after it. You can come at me with everything, flying moves, a power throw, hell you can shoot lasers from your eyes if that's what it takes. The one thing that I always do is adapt to my opponent. It doesn't matter if he's a high flyer..or a heavy bruiser, or a technical guy who has more moves than you can count. At the end of the night, I always find a way to rise to the occasion and get the victory. Last week I was in the ring with a man who was twice my size and threw me around like a ragdoll...and I managed to out wrestle him and pick up the win in my debut. Sammy, I haven't exactly figured out how I'll beat you. But once I do...you won't see it coming."

I then lay down the final card....The Joker.

"Oh yeah...everyone's favorite...The Joker. Like me.....the Joker is the wild card. Unpredictable at best.
As funny as this looks...I'm in no mood to be playing games. I'm rolling into Sin City to win...and prove that my first victory was no accident. You may be the unorthodox one of the two Samuel...but I'm not sure you'll know how to handle me in that ring. Because I'm not just a high flyer, I'm a technical wrestler as well. I know so many moves you will not know how to handle me. I am coming to Las Vegas to fight...just like you. And I will not rest until I am the winner. I respect you a great deal Sam, and I'm sure it won't be long until you get some more gold around your waist to add to your growing accolades in your trophy room. But that day...is not today. Today we are just days away from what many fans believe just may be the match of the night. If you beat me, I'll look you straight in the eye and shake your hand...will you do the same? Guess we'll find out...because I'm betting it all..."

I get up and leave the area as the cameras focus on the cards on the floor before fading to black.

OOC Note - Shorter than I expected...my bad. I kinda got confused about the deadline, not knowing it was tonight. Nonetheless I still put something together...enjoy!

-Flashback-

Growing up...I wasn't exactly the top of my class....to be quite honest I was at the bottom of the totem pole.  I usually felt the wrath of the upper crust of high school, mamely the Jocks. Cliff Johnson...head QB..he was God around this place. I was usually the brunt of all his wrath...being shoved into my locker, being tossed into the school dumpster, and just about everything you can think of.

It was time to fight back.

The only one of the jocks who could actually stand me was Harry McKenzie, one of the best kickers on the team. He didn't fall into peer pressure like the others, he was his own man. One day in the hallway, he came up to me.

Harry McKenzie: Yo Griff, word is Cliff is after you..

Griffin Hawkins: Like that's anything new..

Harry McKenzie: I think its serious this time man...he wants to kick your ass.

Griffin Hawkins: ...Why?

Harry McKenzie: He doesn't think you and me should be around each other.

Griffin Hawkins: Damn man..you're not his girlfriend...you're your own man.

Harry McKenzie: I know that bro, but he seems dead set on teaching you a lesson...

Griffin Hawkins: Now my day's complete. Have you at least tried talking to him?

Harry McKenzie: I have been all day...I'll keep trying.

Griffin Hawkins: Thanks man...I appreciate it.

He nods and goes on his way. Thankfully, School was over after a few hours and I managed to avoid him. I headed for my car, trying to get the keys out of my pocket until I felt a rough shove.

Griffin Hawkins: What the hell!?

I turn and see Cliff, the big hulking jock cracking his knuckles.

Griffin Hawkins: What do you want?...

Cliff Johnson: It's time someone taught you your place.

Griffin Hawkins: Look man, I don't want any trouble...

Cliff Johnson: Too bad...

And with that, he punched me right in the stomach. Angrily I responded in kind.

Griffin Hawkins: ...You're gonna pay for that one asshole...

I threw the hardest punch I could, but it didn't even knock him down. I did manage to cut his lip. He then punched me straight back, knocking me into my car. I knew he was too big for me to take on, but I ran in trying to fight him off, every time I tried punching him, it felt it had no effect on him. I was worn out, bleeding from my mouth until Harry saw the whole thing and ran in.

Harry McKenzie: Hey! That's enough man!

Cliff Johnson:  I can't believe you're actually defending this loser.

Harry McKenzie: Just get outta here!

Cliff Johnson: Fine..whatever.

He walks away from the scene as Harry helps me up.

Cliff Johnson: You okay man?...

Griffin Hawkins: I've been better...

He helped me to the nurse's office so I could get looked at. I was used to this feeling..trying to fight someone bigger than me. Usually I'm not the smartest guy in the room...but I refuse to be anyone's victim. On this day I took a beating from someone bigger than me...but it definitely wasn't the last.

------------------------------------------------

Cameras open up to my locker room.  I sit against one of the lockers in my street clothes, blue ripped jeans and a Ramones T-Shirt. I crack my knuckles, looking up at the camera.

"New company...new blood. I believe I've grown used to this feeling. It always feels like it's the first day of School and I don't know much of anyone yet. The difference between my youth where I was ostracized from social groups...people have welcomed me into Sin City Wrestling with open arms. The crowd out there gave me the biggest response of the night...they know who I am...and they know what I am here to accomplish. My ultimate goal in this organization is to become the Sin City Wrestling World Heavyweight Champion. And for that to happen, I plan on starting from the bottom...and working my way to the top. Anyone who knows me knows that I am the best at what I do, and it doesn't matter who it is against...I will prove myself and carve my name among the elite here in SCW. And it all starts with one man....Damian Payne."

This was my big debut match...all eyes would be on me.

"Damian Payne....so glad to meet you. Name's Griffin Hawkins. You probably heard about me in some circles. And if so...you should believe what everyone says about me. I am everything they say I am. I live up to the hype. A lot boast about being "The Best In The World" and a lot of times they're all talking out of their ass. Me, I don't have to say it, I go out there every night of the week and I prove it. I've been in the ring with them all, and win or lose, I prove why I am one of the best in the industry. And so....you have the unfortunate luck of being my first opponent in my road to the top of the SCW Ladder. Sadistic Insanity?....that's cute. I've seen a lot of people call themselves sick...sadistic and and just plain brutal. But at the end of the night it's always them who are left lying down looking at the lights...and it's always me with my hands raised in victory. So you want to prove you're that damn sadistic? I say bring it all. Because it's gonna take more than being crazy and heartless to put me down. The only way you're gonna beat me..is if you kill me."

I put on a look of determination on my face as I look to the camera.

"Truth being Damian....I don't sweat you. I don't fear you...and I'm not intimidated by you in the slightest bit. You wanna know why? Because I've been in the ring with guys just as big as you...sometimes even bigger. They sing the same tune...how they are big bad and how they're gonna smash me. Well I got news for you pal...this is how I make my living. It doesn't matter what locker room I'm in...I find the biggest and baddest dude around and I knock them on their ass. You are no different than any of them Payne. And I don't care how big you are, how bad you are..or how much you're gonna throw me around the ring. This Sunday I am looking to make an example out of you. I'm gonna prove the old saying that holds true even to this day...the bigger they are, the harder they fall. And Once I hit you with the Superkick, you're gonna go down hard at my feet..and by the time you wake up, you'll be wondering what the hell just happened. Once the EMT's revive you they'll tell you straight that you just got beat by The Rock Soldier."

Honestly...I didn't know who this guy was. But I couldn't let him beat me.

"I'm used to dealing with people bigger than me. Many men looked down at me, thinking they would have such an easy time with me...thinking they'll use their brute strength to pound me into the dirt. But the truth is, they don't find out about me until the match begins. They find out the hard way that despite my size...I am pretty skilled in Martial Arts. Muay Thai Kickboxing....Brazilian Jiu Jitsu...and not to mention being trained by the best wrestlers in this industry. They all find out the hard way that they can't keep up with me. So why am I sharing this info with you Payne? Because I decided to be generous and let you know that I am somebody you're not gonna be able to bowl over so easily. I'm not some low level jabroni  that you're probably used to destroying in the ring. I'm a 14 year veteran who has won titles all over the world and competed with the best in the industry. So as big as you may be Payne...it's only gonna get you far in this match. The biggest isn't gonna win this match....the smartest is gonna win this match...and those smarts probably said bye bye to you a long time ago.."

I give a small chuckle after I finish.

"But I don't want you to think for one second that I am overlooking you. There is a fine line between cockiness...and confidence. I looked up your bio and you seem to have quite the track record...you've been in a few companies...won a few titles....you've become quite the journeyman. But something tells me that you never been in the ring with someone quite like me before have you? Sure...you're likely good at beating down low level scrubs my sister could probably beat to a pulp...but you never been in the ring with a straight up bona fide main event player have you? I'm sure you'll say...oh..it doesn't matter who you faced before, this is a whole different company. And you're right...this is a new company. This is also a chance for me to prove myself among the greats of SCW. You will be the first of many to see what Griffin Hawkins is all about. So I suggest forget about everything you've done before. For the first time you will be in the ring with somebody who's more your speed..and not some jobber who's all talk."

I slowly rise up.

"This Sunday...all eyes will be on me when I make my debut against Damian Payne. While this company crowns a new Champion....a new star will be on the rise that same night. Damian Payne...it all begins with you. The city of sin...is about to get rocked."

I smile before walking off as the camera crew wraps things up.
