Yakuza 0: オーストラリア人 狼 (Australian Wolf)

He was nervous. And why wouldn’t he be? He was about to talk to someone who he knew for a fact was dangerous. It’s not that Aiden hadn’t been around these types before. In fact, when he was in Japan he had dealt with them many times. Unknown to him, the wrestling company he was working for was being run by them. But this was different. They were in America and working with Dickie.

So he would be safe, right? Aiden swallowed heavily and opened the door stepping into the small office. It was decorated in different pieces of artwork, some of them recreations of paintings from the Edo period. Aiden studied them and smiled. He always loved Japanese art. Then a voice startled him. It was Yoshiro Hamada.

”Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first Shogun of the Tokugawa Shogunate. The man who would help revolutionise everything that happened in Japan. Edo became Tokyo and Tokyo became the centre of the Asian world. No matter what people will tell you. It all started there.” Yoshiro stood next to Aiden, who simply nodded and looked over at Yoshiro, understanding the weight of the past. ”Please..sit..”

Aiden moved over to the desk, lightly pulling out a chair and sitting down. Yoshiro took his place across from Aiden, sitting down. Before they could start speaking, however, Yoshiro pulled out a small ledger and started to flick through the pages. His finger moving across and down as if he was speed reading all of the information and taking it in.

Yoshiro closed the ledger, slid it to the side and clasped his hands together. “Mr. Reynolds, I am sure you are here to discuss our mutual friend, Mr. Watson. I am sure you have certain questions about what he does and questions about what we do, but rest assured that he is a part of this by his own free will. I do not know how much you know about Mr. Watson‘s past with us, but he is not in any danger.”

Aiden shook his head and sighed. He knew that that wasn’t a lie, but it also wasn’t exactly true. Half truths and veiled motivations that typical Yakuza bullshit. “I’m not here to grill you about Dickie and what he does and ask you to take care of him or let him go or some other bullshit. I know why Dickie is doing this and I know that he’s a part of this. I’m here to say that I want to be a part of it too, to take care of Dickie and have his back.”

There was a moment of silence, as if Yoshiro was processing this information. He looked the Australian up-and-down, one of his eyes tilting upward as he wondered just what his game was. “This is not a world you simply walk into. And I am sure you have already talked to Mr. Watson about this. I simply do not know what it is that you think you can offer us.”

Before he could answer, the door opened. A man stepped in wearing a black suit. He was younger, wavy black hair. He had a small pen on his lapel showing that he is a member of the family. He moved toward the desk and then slowly bowed before handing him a note. Yoshiro took it and read. The foot soldier looked over at Aiden and spoke softly “あの白人の少年は誰ですか?” (Who is the white boy?)

Yoshiro handed the note back and answered with authority in his voice. ”彼はモロトフの友人だ、我々には役に立たないから、排除してやる.”(He is a friend of The Molotov, he is of no use to us, I’ll get rid of him)

”外国人を採用し続ける必要がないのは良いことだ”(Good, we don’t need to keep recruiting foreigners)

Aiden slowly looked up at them both and shook his head before speaking. ”あなたが思っている以上に私は役に立ちます.”(I’m more helpful than you think.)

Both men looked at each other, shocked and surprised that Aiden spoke Japanese. Yoshiro dismissed the younger man and clasps his hands together again, switching back to English ”All right, maybe we do have a use for you after all.”

Aiden couldn’t help but smile. Just a small one. He proved his point. Yoshiro turned to his laptop, flipping it open and looking through a few things. The printer nearby clicked on. He got to his feet, grabbing the papers before sitting back down across from Aiden. He then slipped the papers across the table. It was an address and a picture of a restaurant.

Yoshiro sat back and smiled. ”That restaurant is a front. Behind it is an operation that we wish to take control of, but we need to know certain things about the running of it from the inside. You would be able to go there, order some food, sit down and observe everything. Observe anyone who looks out of place, anyone who looks to be just guarding something. Any specific doors that lead to places that you don’t understand. Gather as much information as you can no matter how little or how insignificant and bring it back to us.”

”Seems simple enough… why haven’t you sent someone before?”

Yoshiro smirked and leaned forward. ”You will be able to sit down and eat without being looked at suspiciously. Any of my men would be looked at with suspicion and watched carefully. You will fly under the radar. This is your shot, Aiden…” He looked down and started writing in the ledger. Aiden got to his feet, taking the pieces of paper and leaving the office. He let out a deep breath as the door closed behind him. There was no turning back now.

Bury me softly

”Sometimes you can’t just sit around and wait for something to change. You have to change. The truth is, I didn’t want to. I wanted to stay the same guy that I’ve always been. Laughing and joking and making fun of people in a way that still makes them laugh themselves. but apparently I can’t do that any more. Because when you do that the company itself looks at you as a joke. They start to laugh at you instead of with you. And I’m done with that shit right now.”

Aiden sighs heavily. His wakey light brown hair was slicked back away from his face that had a five o’clock shadow and bags under his eyes.

”I lost. It happens. Logan Hunter was able to beat me and take the Roulette Championship from me. What can I say? Anyone can beat anyone in the professional wrestling world, just depends on the circumstance. And I congratulate Logan for becoming the roulette champion, but he’s the problem. I held that championship proudly, I defended it against everyone they threw at me. I tried to make it worth something and then after losing it, I come to find out that I didn't get my rematch. Instead, some douchebag who won the King for a Day swoops in in a fatal four-way match that he booked as a mystery opponent to take the championship.”

“Ok fine. The King for a Day stipulation is there to cause chaos and it’s there for people to get a little through out of the fact that the control for the show is being handed to someone who doesn’t really have the ability to understand what’s going on in the company and make a card that follows it accordingly. But what did we really expect? The briefcase was won by a guy who walks around wearing face paint, can’t speak English, who only turns up to work every couple of weeks because that’s kind of who he is.”

“Guy won the Roulette Championship. And it’s weird because last week Logan Hunter got a rematch for that championship after he had not defended it or done anything with it. He won the title and ended up in the four-way. He lost the title, then he gets a goddamn rematch right away.”

“Am I the only one seeing this stupid shit?”

“But hey, I should just smile and take it right? I should just be a team player and let all of this play out and I’m sure everything will be fine. I’m sure I’ll get taken care of in the future, right? Highly doubtful. Because Logan didn’t want to face me, Guy sure as shit doesn’t want to face me because I will slam that clown’s head into the mat so fucking hard that it’s going to leave a shit smear of his make up all the way down to the corner post. So I’m not holding out hope that I’m gonna get a rematch for that championship any time soon, despite the fact I’d like to think I’ve earned one. But hey, you do you SCW. Stay classy with your shitty booking and shitty decision-making on who you like to put all your weight behind. I’m sure putting all of your eggs in the clown basket is going to play out real well in the future.”

Aiden shakes his head, his jaw clenching as he is clearly trying to keep his emotions in check. Sitting behind, a little off to the side, is Dickie Watson. He has remained silent to this point, but has been reacting to each thing that his best friend and partner has said.

”So, as I reached a breaking point, I did something I wasn’t very proud of and went all over Twitter, or X, as it’s now known because Elon Musk is a fucking idiot. And I voiced my displeasure. Every single thing I said was true. There was no hyperbole in what I said. There was no lying. There was no bullshit. It was my truth, and I put it out there for the world to see. And I’m not going to apologise, despite the fact that it was a very public blowup. Then on climax control, I turned up to work while other people who don’t sit on their arses and I ran my mouth again. And again – I’m not going to apologise.”

“But now, I’ve been rewarded with a match against two guys who I do respect who also need wins to get their careers back on track. Miles Kasey and Eddie Lyons.”

“Miles, mate. You know I like you. Hell, I was one of the ones who campaigned to get you back into the gym after you decided to walk off. And how did that go? Well, you attacked Finn and made us all look like a bunch of fucking idiots. Thanks for that, buddy. I really appreciate it. But despite all of that, I do like you as a human being. You’re a good guy. You found love and you have a great life. However,, your career is not something that you should really be proud of. And I don’t want to sound like a complete dick when it comes to this, but you have not been able to reach your level of potential that we all know that you have.”

“You should have been the World Champion by now. But you didn’t. Instead, your husband reached that level first.”

“I could be a dick about that, but let’s face it: Carter is an incredible athlete and he deserves to be the World Champion. But something that I’m sure grinds your gears is that I’ve been able to reach a level of success in SCW that you haven’t, and I haven’t even taken my career seriously at this point. The entire time I’ve been here, I’ve been joking around, enjoying my time, just living my life but now…now I’m pissed off and now I’m looking to take heads. And even though you and I are friends, Miles, that’s not gonna stop me from doing what I need to do. I like you, buddy, and I respect you, but you keep banging your head against the glass ceiling above you because you’re not strong enough to break through it and I’m not going to end up like you. Just spinning my wheels and treading water because I don’t have the balls to do what needs to be done. That's the difference between us. You don’t have the balls to do what needs to be done, whereas I do.”

Dickies’s eyes slightly widen and as he goes to say something but instead thinks better of it, nodding a bit in the background with a “hm, okay” face as Aiden continues.

”So, get ready Miles, because I’m about to smack you around and make you bite the pillow because I’m gonna push your shit in and not in the way that you actually like”

Behind him Dickies’s jaw drops, his eyes widen again and he goes to say something else but Aiden is on a roll.

”Oh man, you know what? I was about to leave it there but then I remembered I forgot one of my opponents. Eddie, buddy, I’m sorry. I forgot you, just like how most of the wrestling world has forgotten you because you haven’t been able to do shit since I beat you. And this one is kind of personal to me. So back when we faced for the Roulette Championship, I told you straight up that it was time for you to move on and go for the World Title. Much like Miles, you have the potential to be a world champion, but you’ve pissed it all away. That seems to be a running theme here. You could’ve gone on to break through the same glass ceiling that Miles is currently whacking his head on every single week, but you didn’t. You failed. And you failed miserably.”

“You got lit up and exposed by Finn, you went through the Blast from the Past tournament and got to the final only to stumble at the last moment and be defeated by J2H.”

“You have had all of these opportunities and each and every one of them you stumbled over and fucked up. I held you in such a high regard that I was cheering for you. I wanted you to go to that next level, Eddie, because I respect you. Vincent and Victoria are members of your family that are going to make sure the name Lyons lives on while you seem to be the one who is putting a whole bunch of tarnish on it. And that pains me, because you’re the only one out of the three of you that are in this company that I respect as a human being. Don’t take this the wrong way, but your family are kind of a bunch of arseholes.”

“But at least they succeed despite themselves.”

“But hey, I can’t talk right? I lost to Logan Hunter, who is a bigger joke than both of you combined. Here’s the problem. I know that I lost to Logan. I accept that I lost to Logan and I wanted to have an opportunity against him again, but instead that got robbed from me. My opportunity to regain that championship got taken from me and I don’t appreciate it and I really really don’t appreciate that. I’ve been thrown in a match with you two instead of getting my rightful shot. So unfortunately, you’re gonna see a different side of me. Yeah, I’m still a good guy, I love my wife. I love my friends. I joke around, but now when I get in that ring what I’m gonna be looking for is blood. I’m gonna take your blood, Eddie, I’m gonna take your blood Miles. I'm going to take my pound of flesh and I’m gonna do everything I can until the higher ups in this company realise what they’ve unleashed. I’ll see you both at Climax Control.”

You’re gonna do what?

”Are you sure about this?”

Dickie Watson, Aidens best friend in tag team partner razors an eyebrow as the four mentioned Mr Reynolds popped his arms over his chest with a Maps spread out between them. He not slowly his arms folded over his chest as his eyes dart from side to side. He is deep in thought coming up with a plan and movements as he stares at a two-dimensional representation of the Toledo Zoo. He leaves forward his hands flat on the table as he keeps tracing the lines with his eyes coming up with a foolproof plan.

He reaches out pointing at the entrance before tracing a line down a pathway around a maintenance hub and across the African exhibit to the back of the zoo where the Australian exhibit is held. Knowing that that’s where he will find his target. Sitting in the center of the exhibit is a small plastic Tasmanian devil. Aiden smiles slowly and looks up at Dickie. Who takes a deep breath and throws his arms in the air before nodding back at his friend ”Alright, I guess we’re going to steal a Tasmanian devil then…”

Aiden just smiles again, Dickie groans and stands back. ”Just need a few things from you….”

”…What?”

Aiden pulls out a list opening it up delicately. He clears his throat and starts to itemize off the things that he needs. ”A pickup truck, a 10 m length of heavy-duty nylon rope. A banana, a can of compressed air, two South African whooping cranes, and a sock filled with chicken fat.”

Dickie blinked a few times like his brain was trying to process what he just heard. ”Why?”

”What do you mean why?”

Dickie took a deep breath and shook his head snatching the list from Aiden ”South African whooping cranes? A sock filled with chicken fat? A banana? Why?” Aiden narrowed his eyebrows and took a deep breath before leaning forward with a groan.

”The cranes are so I can release them and have security running after them thinking that they have escaped. And the sock? Well, mate, have you ever been hit with a sock filled with chicken fat? The size and the girth of it will make sure to knock whoever I hit completely out but also won’t leave any lasting damage. I’m not a monster. It’s essentially an all-natural slapjack”

Dickie nodded and raised an eyebrow ”And the banana?”

”A snack…. potassium is very important.”

Dickie just deadpans him. Aiden keeps studying the map and scratches the back of his neck. Suddenly the door swings open and Kallie walks in ”Hey Aiden I made tacoritos and I wanted to know if Dickie was staying….” She looks up, raising an eyebrow as the two men stare at her looking guilty. Aiden slowly slides the map onto the table as Kallie raises an eyebrow ”What are you two doing?”

Aiden looked at Dickie. Dickie looked back at Aiden. Dickie then swallowed and tapped Aiden on the shoulder ”So, I’d love to stay for dinner but I need to get home. Have fun, Aiden.”

”Hey, Dickie!…dude what the hell?”

Dickie gave a small nod to Kallie and smiled before leaving the room. Kallie raised an eyebrow looked at her husband and folded her arms over her chest. She looked him up and down and waited. Waited for some kind of explanation or reason. ”Well?”

Aiden swallowed hard and put the map down on the table. Kallie stepped forward and looked down at it before raising an eyebrow and looking at Aiden. ”So uh, I was thinking about getting a friend for Willow and also a bodyguard for Dax”

”A bodyguard? What kind of bodyguard….”

”A Tasmanian devil…”

Kallie slowly turned and looked at her husband. Her face was pale and emotionless as she stared at him. She shook her head and cleared her throat. ”A what?” She paused. Aiden took a deep breath Kallie continued. ”You want to go and steal a Tasmanian devil? And you want that Tasmanian devil to be a pet and bodyguard for our son?”

”Well, when you say it like that it sounds stupid.” Kallie folded her arms over her chest. The two stared at each other and after a few moments, Aiden swallowed and nodded as he came to a realization. ”Yeah I get it. I’ll just throw this map away and forget about it.”

”Good…. come get dinner”

A war with a family….

”So many people thought that Connor Murphy was going to be the roulette champion now. Going into blaze of glory all I heard was that Connor was finally going to start living up to that expectation and potential that we’d always seen in him. But after that Iron Man match when the dust settled, I was the one holding the roulette championship above my head. Not Connor Murphy. Me…”

Aiden took a deep breath and slowly smiled before continuing. Is Sandy dark blonde hair waving slightly down over his eyes

”Blaze of Glory is the biggest show that this company has. Well, one of the biggest shows. Truth be told this company turns out huge events like most places wish they could. And now we’re going on this Viking-era tour and going all through Scandinavia. The people are thirsty and hungry to see some real wrestling from the guys and girls at this company. And again I have come out of one of the major events still holding a championship and still going about my life. I’m not the greatest, I failed when I tried to prove that…”

“Finn Whelan beat me. But I have been going about my work in the roulette division. I have now defended this championship twice, and I have shown the world that I’m not a fluke. I’m a two-time roulette champion and the more time I spend here the more confident on getting. And now the rest of us are all standing back and watching the blast from the past tournament”

“And I’ve accepted the fact that right now the company probably isn’t going to have a lot for me.”

“Everyone is going to be watching this tournament to see who the winners are going to be. The winners get to select what championships they go for and then we’re going to have challenges for those titles. And I’m under no illusions that on the men’s side, they’re probably going to have a winner that’s going to go after whoever the world heavyweight champion is. On the women’s side, they’re probably going to do the same. So, well this tournament is happening. I’m just spinning my wheels. But in spinning my wheels I get to reignite a beautiful weed feud that I’ve got going on that I didn’t even realize I had going on until this week.”

Aiden slowly smiles and shrugs.

”Vincent Lyons eh? You know he and I have never faced each other. But the family? The family I know quite well. See, everyone in this company knows that I’ve had my wars with Eddie. Eddie and I have gone at it over the roulette championship and we’ve traded wins and losses. Everyone knows that I quite like Eddie. I respect him, I think that he is possibly one of if not The greatest and yet underutilized talent that this company has and he should be in that main event scene going for that world championship. Because he is good enough to hold it.”

“But, Eddie and I have beaten the hell out of each other. And in another company. PWS Legacy. I recently faced Alexander Lyons. Another member of the family. So then I come back to this company and I face Vincent. Three male members of the Lyons family all of them coming after little old Me. It seems like I’m in a war with the same family and despite the fact not all the family members say to eye the truth is that this is entertaining Me more than anyone else can imagine.”

“So, what does Vincent bring to the table that the other members of his family don’t?”

“Nothing..”

“I wish I could tell you all that Vincent was some kind of secret weapon in the Lyons family and the Lyons den. But the truth is we’ve seen the best of that family and that gym. Eddie and Victoria. At least in this company. Unfortunately, the best out of that gym isn’t even a member of the family and her name is Cleo. Maybe one day she’ll bring her talents over to this company. But until then we are left with Eddie who is a challenger for the world championship Victoria who has been ruling the women’s roulette division and now Vincent.”

Aiden gets to his feet and folds his arms over his chest.

”And Vincent‘s biggest claim of fame? Holding championships in that dumpster fire of a company WWH. Yeah, a lot of us in SCW were in that company. Alex, our current world champion is a form of world champion in WWE. Alicia also ruled to that company. Hell, I held a championship from that company too but when that company started to become a raging fire and a piece of shit we all left and was smart enough to just wipe our hands of it. But you Vincent? Without your time in that crappy ass company, you would have nothing.”

“So here you are in SCW ready to follow in your family’s footsteps. It’s just too bad that if I wanted a real challenge for your family, I would’ve challenged your twin sister. She’s the one who is currently at the top of a division. She is the one who is holding a championship. Eddie held this championship the roulette championship. He’s challenging for the world championship and being up there in the main event. You walked in and failed going for the Internet championship. Kevin Carter made you look like a joke. But now you get a non-title match against me..”

“Look mate, coming from that family, I know that you’ve got talent. I know that you could become a star here. But I’m sick and tired of being overlooked. And that is exactly what is going to happen when I’m facing you. People are gonna forget that I’m the roulette champion, people are gonna forget that I’ve done everything I can to make this title mean something. And all they’re going to do is look at your last name and think that we have another star on our hands. So to counter that disrespect, I’m gonna do everything I can in our match to show you that you have stepped up in competition. That those championships you held in that dumpster fire of a company mean nothing when you are in the fires of SCW.”

“Bring it Vinnie… cause I’m gonna bury you”

Home

The concept of going home is a strange one. When you think about it the whole concept of Home itself is strange. Is home where your family is? Is home the place that you make yourself? Is home where you are currently laying your head? It’s a very strange thing. The feeling of homesickness. When you go somewhere else all of those creature comforts that you have come to expect are no longer there. The feeling of not having that around you can lead to many things. Depression, anxiety, sadness. All of these negatives.

There are those among us though who can move and live wherever they want. They don’t feel burdened by the feeling of home or family. They can go anywhere in the world and as long as they are taking care of themselves and they have a few others around them they will have their own home in their own mind.

Aiden Reynolds was not one of those people.

After months of living in Japan, months of working himself to the bone and going to every single event that the company asked him to go to as well as a few that they didn’t, not to mention working on the side for a few of the smaller independent companies he wanted to go home he wanted to see his parents, he wanted to see his sister, he even wanted to see his brother. He missed Australia. The beaches, the sunshine, the people.

Aiden missed it.

So, the second he had some time off and an excuse he flew back to Australia. The excuse was a simple one. He needed to renew his work Visa. So he went home, flying back to Queensland, landing at Brisbane Airport before going back to the Gold Coast. He didn’t tell anyone that he was going to be there. He just knew that his siblings were going to be at his parent's house on Sunday.

As the airport shuttle rumbled down the street, Aiden swallowed, he was nervous. Nervous because this was the first time he was going to see his family since leaving to go to Japan. He wondered if they had been keeping tabs on him, wondering if they even cared that he had found success in his dream job.

Aiden got out of the shuttle, slinging his bag over his shoulder. He walked up to the door. He opened it knowing it would be unlocked. He stepped in closing the door behind him. Moving into the kitchen he smiled as his parents and siblings sat and turned to see him. His mother‘s face lit up, his father‘s eyebrows raised, and his sister smiled. Something he found amusing. And his brother slowly smirked and nodded slowly being the most subdued out of everyone.

There were hugs all around, laughter, and smiles. But after everything had calmed down, Aiden sat making a chicken and salad wrap ”So…. how's Japan?” Amelia, Aiden’s sister sat next to him at the kitchen bench. She was the first one to ask. Everyone else just making vague illusions to Aiden working overseas.

Aiden smiled and nodded slowly taking a deep breath after taking a bite of his rap and swallowing ”Yeah it’s great aye…. I’m learning a lot, I’ve even picked up a little bit of Japanese. I am rooming with this guy named Steve. He’s a Brit. Nice guy. We were staying at the same sponsor's house but when I get back, we’re going to be moving into an apartment.”

”Oi ya got a boyfriend? Good job!” Adam, Aiden‘s brother perked up with a laugh. Amelia rolled her eyes and Aiden simply turned and looked at his brother.

”Hey..hey….fuck off”

Aiden shook his head, his brother had always been a bit of a dick head. Always making stupid comments. But they laughed it off in the end. He took a deep breath, his heart sinking to the pits of his stomach. Everyone was ignoring the fact that he moved to another country and had been working hard. They obviously hadn’t been watching anything that he was doing. which was strange. The entire reason Aiden got into professional wrestling was because he and his family had all watched it.

Admittedly, his mother hadn’t really been involved. But his father would sit down turn it on and have all three kids sitting on the floor watching it. Amelia had started to not care about it in recent years but the boys Adam and Aiden would both both wrestle on the floor all the way through their teenage years until Aiden decided he wanted to become a professional professional wrestler. Adam wanted to but had been too cowardly to tell their mother and father about his dreams.

Aiden wondered if Adam had become better about it. He wondered whether or not his parents held it against him for moving away. He took a deep breath and shook his head before looking at his sister with a smile. ”Enough about me. While Japan is great and everything and I’m doing well, I’ve missed a few things around here. So how’s things going with you”

Amelia shrugged and sat forward, leaning against the kitchen bench before grabbing her can of no-sugar Coca-Cola and taking a sip ”Good. I’m going to be graduating from university next year and then I’m gonna start looking for work. I don’t really like having to have a casual job while I’m studying, especially when where I’m working at fucking Maccas.”

”Oi next time you’re at work bring home some nuggets yeah?”

”Fuck off Adam”

Aiden couldn’t help but laugh. This was it. This was home. This is what it had always been like. They would give each other shit, talk and laugh, the part of Aiden thought it would be different. He thought maybe, just maybe they would congratulate him on living his dream. But instead, there was nothing. He took a deep breath, his smile fading and it seemed to be at this moment. Amelia noticed.

”You know, Dad and Adam have been watching your matches. Dad has even been paying for a subscription to the Japan wrestling streaming service. I even caught Mum watching it the other day.”

Aidens eyes widened and he cleared his throat. ”What? Legit?!?”

Amelia nodded. Aiden smiled. Their mother walked in the room and Amelia stood up getting ready to go and help her before patting her brother on the shoulder and leaning in. ”We’re all proud of you. Even if we don’t show it.”

Aiden took a deep breath, happy that he knew the truth. He realized the reason why they weren’t making a big fuss about it was because they didn’t want him to stay. They wanted him to go back to Japan and continue living his dream. He shook his head and smiled before getting to his feet finishing his chicken and salad wrap and walking over to hang out with his brother and his father. Home is where the heart is indeed.

Elimination

”Man what a weird time this is.”

Aiden slowly smiled and shook his head. His light brown/Sandy blonde hair flowed down into his eyes as it had become a little bit longer. His face was covered in a short beard.

”Inception was certainly something special. You see, I did everything I could to try and make people interested in that match. I talked about it endlessly. I brought up how good Daniel Morgan and Connor Murphy were also being a little bit light-hearted with their recent records. I want the roulette championship to mean something. I want people to look at it as a prize. And add inception while I was able to win the match and while I was able to get some eyes onto the match, it was still a failure. It was a failure because apparently, my opponents didn’t give a shit”

“They didn’t talk about the match. They didn’t promote the match. These two guys literally just turned up to get in the cage and try and win it without telling anyone why they wanted to win it. I have said since I won this championship against Alexander Raven that I wanted to make it mean something. I wanted to have a second championship run with it that was worthy of it. Because my first one certainly wasn’t.”

“I failed in my first attempt”

“But this time, I wasn’t the failure. This time the two guys who I got in the ring with other failures. They both failed to live up to their end. They both failed to make people care about that goddamn match. So yeah, The happy-go-lucky Aiden that most people know disappeared for a night. When I got in that cage I wasn’t just in there to try and win it. I wasn’t just in there to try and keep the roulette championship. I was in there to prove a point and I was in there to hurt the two guys who decided to disrespect that championship and by extension Me.”

“I deserve more respect than that”

Aiden spat venom as he clearly started getting angry. He took a deep breath and shook his head before continuing.

”Now, it’s funny that I’m talking about the roulette championship. The first time I won this title it was off of my opponent who I’m facing this week. Eddie Lyons. And this rivalry between myself and him has been built off of the one thing that I just talked about. Respect. I do respect you Eddie, I respect everything that you’ve been able to accomplish and I respect your family. I feel like a broken record repeating myself here. But I mean it. Every single time you get in the ring, you leave it all in there. No matter what kind of match it is you leave it all in the ring.”

“You now have an opportunity in front of you. The same opportunity that I have in front of Me. This match isn’t for a championship, it’s for an opportunity to earn the right to challenge for a championship. And that’s what championships should be. They should be these goals that we all strive for and reach for. That’s what the roulette championship should be and that’s what I’ve always tried to make it. It’s what you succeeded in making. When you were the roulette champion everyone wanted to go for that title because they saw you as a champion that earned the right to be a champion. I’m still fighting for that. But, the powers that be have decided to grant us both this opportunity.”

“A great opportunity.”

“See whichever one of us wins gets to go on to be in the elimination chamber. And whoever wins that match gets an opportunity against whoever the champion will be after that. Now, some people might disagree with us having to jump through hoops like this but I think it’s great. A championship should be a prize and the SCW world heavyweight championship is the biggest prize. And it’s one that I know for a fact Eddie wants. Because, unlike most people in this company, Eddie is a pure professional wrestler. He doesn’t have anything else on the side. This is his love, this is his destiny. But it’s a destiny that has eluded him. Hasn’t it Eddie?”

Aiden raises his eyebrows and offers a small shrug before continuing.

”I’ve been a world champion in other companies. I’ve been a tag team champion, I’ve held mid-card titles, I’ve been an old girl champion of a company. I’ve done a lot. Immediately I’ve never been the world champion in SCW but I know what it’s like to climb to the top of the mountain and realise that dream. Eddie doesn’t. And I know you Eddie, I know that that’s what you want in this world. You want to be able to stand on top of the mountain and look down at everyone else and say that you are the best. And here’s your chance. I told the world that you should be going for the world championship and that the roulette title was something that you outgrew and I wholeheartedly believe that.”

“But, it’s my dream too. It’s my Destiny 2. So what do we do? Well, we go to war. We get in the rain and we go at all to earn the opportunity to try and earn another opportunity. And as I said, that’s how it should be in this business. You earn everything. And I can tell you this right now, Eddie, if you can beat Me I’m gonna make sure you still earn your way into that chamber. Just like I know if I beat you then I will have earned it because you’re going to make me earn it.”

“That is what we do in this business. That is the kind of person you are and the kind of person I am.”

“And I have to be completely honest with you, part of me is intimidated by this entire situation. See, if he’s still the champion by the time we come out of this and I should happen to win the elimination chamber then I will be facing Finn Whelan. And to be completely honest with you the type of person Finn is in the mood he’s been in lately. That match is not going to be pleasant for anyone involved. But that’s the dream, isn’t it? To be able to hold the SCW world heavyweight championship over our heads and say at that moment that we are the best? It’s the dream of everyone who gets into the business. And if you don’t have that dream, if you aren’t looking at the top title in a company and planning to do everything you can to own it and become the champion then you shouldn’t be in this business. But then again that isn’t something I have to worry about with you is it Eddie? Because I know damn well you feel the exact same way as me. So let’s dance again, brother. Let’s see where the dominoes fall.”

Opportunities

The start of a career is always the hardest part. It doesn’t matter what kind of career it is. Anything where you are starting from the bottom and starting from scratch means that you have to work hard to get your name out there. Even if that is something like being in an office, or working retail, working in the service industry, or any type of management or business, all of it leads to having a chance to reinvent yourself and put your best foot forward. The old saying is to respect the hustle.

Everyone, everyone on earth who has some sort of job or career has had to start at this point. Some people end up having advantages, like getting a job in the family business or having a friend who gets your foot in the door. But you still need to learn how to do the job and still need to have some form of Work ethic. And that is what Aiden Reynolds did. He had a work ethic. From training and learning his craft to going out and grinding and working he had done everything he could to get his name out there. Well, not everything.

He had only worked in Australia.

Contrary to popular belief while Australia is a bustling nation with first-world problems and technologies. It isn’t exactly the most popular place for professional wrestling. There are companies, independent companies that host events all around the country every weekend. But while this is what Aiden wanted to do with his life and his career. It wasn’t what he was able to do to pay the bills. During the week he was working construction jobs, working as a bricklayer on job sites. And on the weekend he would drive all around the country or fly around the country to make dates to get better in the ring and get his name out there.

This was one such night. An independent show in the western suburbs of Sydney Australia, Aiden had just finished a match. The crowd was in all of his natural athleticism and a charisma that he had slowly been working on to set himself apart from every single other name on the card. He stepped backstage a few familiar faces giving him a high-five and a pat on the back. He grabbed the towel moving through the backstage area to the locker room rooms. He bent down and grabbed his bag, pulling it to the side and wiping himself down with a towel to get rid of the sweat.

He looked up, noticing a well-dressed man in a suit. The man was talking to the local promoter nodding slowly as the two seemed to be talking about Aiden. He raised an eyebrow as the promoter put his hand up and told him to come over. Aiden got to his feet moving over to the two men ”Aiden, mate. This is Ken Mashima. He’s from the Tokyo sports Confederacy. He’s been out here scouting a few people and he seems to have been impressed by you.”

”Really?” Aidens eyes widened with surprise, he quickly composed himself realizing that looking like a deer in the headlights and looking shocked at what could potentially be a job opportunity was not the best way to go about things.

Max gave a small nod and lightly bowed to Aiden who bowed back. The promoter backed up and gave Aiden a small wink before letting the two men talk. Mashima folded his arms over his chest with a smirk on his face. He was an older man, still young enough to have his finger on the pulse of what people were looking for but old enough that he had seen many flash-in-the-pan names come and go. ”Excellent to meet you Mr. Reynolds.”

”Please feel free to call me Aiden.”

Mashima then nodded before continuing. ”Well, Aiden, I was sitting in my office in Tokyo, and one of our social media workers came to me and said that many fans from Australia had been tagging our company's Twitter and videos of you. Asking us when you were going to be coming over to Japan and doing some dates. Some of our Japanese van saw those videos and interest has peaked. In fact, you have become somewhat of a cult favorite.”

Aiden blinked a few times unsure of what to say and unsure of how to feel. He scratched the back of his head nervously with a small smile on his face. ”Wow, that’s news to me. Don’t get me wrong I think it’s great. It’s just kind of shocking. I didn’t know that some of the fans in Australia were so passionate about what I do that they were bothering your company about it. All the Japanese fans had taken an interest in Me. Truth be told I wasn’t sure how I was gonna get my foot in the door but I’ve always wanted to go to Japan” Aiden smiled, his enthusiasm was evident.

Mishima nodded slowly and reached into the pocket of his dark blue jacket, pulling out a small envelope. A red bow was tied around it with some gold Japanese lettering embroidered on it. Aiden raised an eyebrow wondering just what it was. ”This is an offer. It is for a limited run of dates for our company, you’ll be paid well your flights will of course be taken care of by us and we have set up a family who will sponsor you. It is only a short run of a month. As an introductory offer. To see if you can be a value to us and if that cult following can transfer into real popularity”

Aiden raised his eyebrows as he opened the envelope. Inside was both the offer in Japanese and in English. Aiden tried to hide it as his eyes almost popped out of his skull seeing how much he was going to get paid for The 15-date tour of Japan. ”Aye, this is amazing. Thank you, Mr. Mashima.” Aidens heart was beating out of his chest. Nationally just slowly smiled. There was a certain respect in his look but also an arrogance.

”Do not thank me yet Mr. Reynolds. Japan is a country where you sink or swim. And believe me, when I say this, we are going to throw you into the deep end. I hope for your sake you are able to swim laps. Because I do not want to see you drown.”

Aiden nodded slowly as Mashima offered his hand. Aiden took it giving it a firm shake as the well-dressed man turned and walked toward the promoter’s office. Aiden looked down at his contract offer. It was real money, a real opportunity. An opportunity to travel to another land and show what he had learned. To be a real professional wrestler. And he wasn’t going to waste it.

The Best

”Oi dickie! Where the fuck are you?”

Aiden Reynolds stomps through the hallway of the large area of the house he currently lives in. Looking around frantically for his best friend Dicky Watson, the younger brother of our current world champion and his opponent for this week Finn Whelan. Aiden turns the corner and finds Dickie sitting at the table a spoon in his hand as his wolfing down a bowl of lucky charms.

”Hey mate, I need your help. See I’m gonna be cutting a promo this week on your brother and I-“

”No…”

”No? What do you mean no?”

Dickie puts his phone down, putting the spoon into the bowl of his lucky charms before moving it to the side and clasping his hands together as he leans across the breakfast bench.

”Aiden, let me explain to you what is going to happen. I will help you cut this promo and then afterward I’m going to get angry and frustrating voicemails from Kayla. Asking me why I said the things that I said. Or why I helped you in any way shape or form. Now, Finn isn’t the one who will care in fact he’ll probably just laugh it off and shrug. But I don’t want to put up with Kayla‘s shrieking voice with her stupid British accent on my goddamn phone.”

Aiden nods slowly

”Fair….”

”I thought so. Last time I said anything negative toward him, she filled up my goddamn voicemail inbox. And then proceeded to start sending me voice messages through everything from ‎WhatsApp to telegram to Facebook Messenger and I really don’t have the time all the patience to deal with her bullshi-….wait… have you already started recording motherfucker?”

”Uh…yeah…”

”You…raging…dickhead…”

Dickie gets to his feet and shakes his head putting the bowl into the sink before walking off. Aiden blinks a few times holding the phone in front of him before realising he still recording and she’ll probably get on with it.

”Right, so, just in case anyone’s wondering I am still the rule at champion. I know, it’s been a while. After all, we ended 2024 and took some time off. I was able to beat Alexandra Raven, I was able to become the roulette champion and since then all I’ve really done is have a rather high-profile match against Daniel Morgan and lose. I’m not gonna make excuses, I’m not gonna sit here and say that I should have beaten Daniel and that it was a fluke or anything like that. You get enough of that from 90% of the other morons who were in this company. I’ll just simply say that Daniel is the better man and I still have a lot of improvement.”

“But still, in case anyone has any type of question about this, yes, losing sucks, and yes it has pissed me off. But Daniel Morgan is not someone who should ever be taken lightly. The guy is a great talent who could be so much more if he actually stuck around in this company. So hopefully he does. We need more people like him in the male division of SCW.”

“And now I get to do the whole New Year New Me thing. Even though it really isn’t. It’s a new year but it’s Me the same old Aiden Reynolds.”

“Now, I’m not going to say that I’m happy with how 2024 ended but I am happy with the year that I was able to carve out in this company. Two roulette championship wins and I was able to get in the ring with some of the best of the best. I was able to face guys like Ben Jordan and of course Daniel Morgan as well as Alexandra Raven and others. I’ve been able to climb the ladder in this company and make a name for myself. I’ve been able to spend time with my son and my beautiful wife as well as my best friend and watch some of the best professional wrestling on the planet from the comfort of the locker room.”

Aiden places his phone down and steps back, folding his arms over his chest before continuing.

”And now I get to have a champion versus champion match. I get to jump in the ring with Finn Whelan. And I’m not going to be like miles and jump him from behind and then play the victim. I get this match just because I’ve earned it. Funny how that happens isn’t it Miles? Sorry if I sound a little bitter but that dude was supposed to be friends with all of us. He was supposed to be our family and he goes and stabs a family member in the back. I’m a little bit pissed off with him, and I get it. Finn can be a bit of a prickly arsehole. And I don’t think that’s news to anyone. But he deserves more respect than that.”

“So, I’ll make damn sure I give Finn the proper respect in and out of the ring. And that’s something that I know exactly how to do because I’m one of the few people on this planet that does understand him. I know he’s not the type of guy who enjoys empty platitudes and people verbally jerking him off in public. But he is all about respect. And I do respect Finn Whelan. And how could you not? The dude has been almost unstoppable in this company. A former world champion and current world champion, a two-time mixed tag team champion, and someone who will be in the Hall of Fame someday. And again, this isn’t me jerking you off Finn this is legit.”

“I know for a fact that you already have had a hall of Fame-worthy career.”

“Now, the next question is, can I beat you? Truth is I don’t know. But if we dig a little deeper into that truth then I have to say no. And I get it that might be a little bit weird for someone to say. That I don’t believe I can beat you. But such is the paradox of professional wrestling. I know I’m not as good as you, I’m not as experienced, I’m not as dangerous, I’m not on your level. Yet. But I want to get there. And to get there I need to keep testing myself. I know it’s an old, kind of bullshit saying, but it isn’t about the amount of times you get knocked down. It’s about the amount of times you get back up again. And I keep getting up. Much to the frustration of a lot of people.”

He smiles and shrugs before grabbing a beer and popping it open and taking a sip.

”I’m going to do all I can to beat you. I’m going to give you my best. Not just because I want to be able to beat you but also because if I don’t give you my best I know I’m going to hear about it later. I’m ready for this match Finn, I’m ready to do everything I can to beat you and I’m ready to put my body on the line. And I know you’re going to do the same. No matter how you feel about me you know that I’m family. Family doesn’t always agree in family isn’t always kind to each other but the fact remains you and I are like family. Your younger brother is like a brother to me. Dickie and I have been tag team champions together and we have gone up and down these roads.”

“Shit, dickie is the godfather to my son. You have spent time with my son you’ve spent time with my wife and we’ve spent time together. I look at you as a brother. That’s why I would never disrespect you as Miles did I would always come to you directly and this match while I didn’t choose it I’m going to embrace it.”

“So, let’s do this brother. Give me your best cause I’ll be damn sure to give you the best.”

Made for this

”Oh shit”

Aiden winced. And shook his head. It was the end of his first day of training. He arrived home after the long drive, he went to get out of the car and felt it. A pain of pain that shot straight through his entire body. He closed his eyes swallowed hard and pushed through standing up as he tried to ignore it.

He shuffled up the concrete path toward his house. The street was quiet, only some faint sounds of cars driving along the highway behind behind Aidan’s house could be heard. He grabbed his keys opening the door and stepping inside softly trying not to wake anyone in the house. Knowing that his parents were probably asleep and the same with his siblings. he closed the door behind him and made his way through the kitchen trying to tiptoe as shocks of pain rang through his body with each step.

He moved over to the fridge opening the freezer and grabbing out a ice pack. He took a deep breath and turned getting ready to go to his bedroom when the light flicked on. Aidan looked up seeing his mother standing in the doorway. Her arms were folded over her chest and she shook her head looking Aiden up and down. And what a sight he must’ve been. Covered in bruises and abrasions. ”Aiden! What happened?”

She fussed over him. Stepping forward and grabbing his arm leading him over to the kitchen table. She forced him to sit down and started looking over him. Noticing a few discoloured patches on his face and neck looking over his shoulders and his upper back seeing the large red and purple marks that had started to fall. Aiden  shook his head and looked up at her with a bemused smirk. ”I’m ok, it’s just some bruises” The young man couldn’t help it laugh as he grabbed the ice pack and put it on the back of his neck. He was in pain, he was sore and now knew what he was getting into. But he was loving it.

”Just some bruises?” she repeated with raised eyebrows as she kept studying her son. He swallowed heart and pushed the ice pack harder against the back of his neck. His mother took a deep breath and sat back. ”Well, I was going to ask how your first day training went but I can see how it went by how you’re moving and all of these bruises that you seem to just shrug off like they’re nothing”

”Mum…” Aiden grounded and shook his head.

She put her hands up and sighed ”Oh but what do I know? I just worked as a nurse for years.”

He couldn’t help but roll his eyes. He tried to make it less obvious than it ended up being. He took a flustered breath showing some frustration with his mothers worrying over him. ”I’ll be fine. It’s all part of learning” He winced again, holding his ribs as he felt a stabbing shot in his side.

His mother shook her head and sighed heavily. ”Are you sure you want to do this? There is no shame in trying something and then realising it’s not for you. Or admitting that your body can’t hold up to it.” Her hand moved across the table and grabbed Aiden’s hand, she gave it a squeeze and rubbed her thumb across the back of his hand with a smile. ”You can still get into university and get a degree…”

Aiden took a deep breath in, a sharp inhale, he pushed it out and drowned before shaking his head and sliding his hand back. ”You want me to give up? Is that how you raised me? You and Dad constantly talk about following your dreams and putting 100% into everything you do. So after one training session, one session where I come home and I’m sore because I did put 100% into it. You’re telling me I should quit?” He pauses and shakes his head again, he was clearly upset by the turn of events and the conversation. ”This is my dream and it’s what I want to do. Can’t you just be happy for me that I’m trying? Can’t you be supportive?”

His mother sat there for a moment, her eyes softened as she seem to be deep in contemplation about everything that her son had laid out in front of her. She took a deep breath nodding slowly before reaching over and taking his hand again this time pulling his hand forward and forcing Aiden to look in her eyes.”I’m sorry…” Aiden looked up, his mother smiled wider ”You’re right. You deserve support and understanding…. I just don’t like to see you in a pain.”

Aiden took a deep breath and laughed to himself before standing up ”I understand. And I get it. I love you too, Mum. But you have to let me do this. And I’ll even let you worry about me. They smiled at one another. He took a deep breath and moved past his mother going down the hallway toward his bedroom. Ready to lay down and relax. His mind they are racing with all the things that he learned and the determination to get better.

Australian Underground

”Bloody hell what a rush”

Aiden Reynolds, the current sin city wrestling roulette champion. He stands with a beer in one hand and the roulette championship in the other as he takes a deep breath with a smile on his face.

”I swear to God, part of me didn’t think I’d be able to beat Alexandra Raven. See, everyone knows how good Alexandra Raven is. He is someone who should have been the world champion at least once. Someone who has taken the fight to some of the best this company has ever seen. he should’ve been the one going after Finn Whelan, he should have been at the top of the garden in the main event. And I mean that wholeheartedly. Nine times out of 10, the way I am now, Alexandra Raven beats me. As good as I know I can be I have a lot of growing to do in this company. And someone like him should have been a world champion instead of being in the roulette division.”

“But with that being said I was still able to beat him. At the biggest show of the year when push came to shove I was the one who had my hand raised high and I was the one who walked out of the roulette champion. Of course Alexandra is taking so much deserved and well earned time off and I’m going to be the one waving the roulette flag from here on out. and what a flag waving it will be. You see, I failed at my first run with this championship.”

“I don’t think that’s a controversial thing to say.”

“Hell, you all sort it. I beat Eddie Lyons and became the roulette champion. And I had intentions of trying to do the championship proud. Especially since Eddie was good enough to hold that championship and make it a prize worth chasing. But, two weeks after I won the damn thing Alexander Raven beat me for it. there was no excuses, he was just a better man. And every time I had a shot at getting it or a shot at becoming something more than just a name on the roster I failed. That is until high stakes.”

Aiden took a sip of his beer and sighed heavily

”And now i’m left with a new task. I get a second shot at making sure this championship becomes synonymous with my name. And another shot at red redemption. Now, I’m not the smartest guy in the world and I’m also not someone who believes in any sort of higher power. But if there is a higher power and I’ve been allowed to have this second chance at becoming the roulette champion and doing the championship proud then I’m going to take it with both hands and I’m not going to look back”

“But first, before I look at defending this championship against anyone who comes for me, I have to get past Daniel J Morgan. A member of London Underground. One of the best tagteam styled stables in the history of this company.”

“Daniel was 1/2 of the tagteam champions as well as being a member of London Underground while they were the first mixed tagteam champions. You don’t stumble across that kind of success by accident.”

“But, I know a thing or two about being a tag team champion. In fact that’s all people thought I was for a time. They thought I was a tag team guy. Myself and my tagteam partner Dickie Watson, the younger brother of Finn Whalen were one of the best tag teams going known as the Commonwealth. And we were one of the best teams in the world. However, I was sick and tired of being looked at as just his partner. And I’ve done everything I can to get success as a singles restless since then and I’d like to think I’ve done a good job holding a world championship in one company and then coming here to become the roulette champion not once but twice.”

Aiden smiles slowly

”With that being said I don’t want the narrative to get twisted here. I am not disregarding Daniel Morgan and his success nor am I saying that he isn’t able to beat Me because most of his success has come to tag team. Because that is simply not the case. anyone can beat anyone on their day and Daniel you are someone who should be respected and looked at as a possible champion. And now that you’ve come back to the fold and you are walking around with the rest of the members of London Underground. as well as Crystal Zdunich… then it’s safe to assume you are going to be making a good run in this company once again”

“But, i’m not going to stand here and disagree with the fact that you’re a threat. Because you are. And my championship isn’t on the line but I also know that if you beat the champion you should earn a championship match. So as we close out 2024 and as I hold the roulette championship, I know that you are going to be getting ready to try and beat me to earn a shot at the roulette title. and I need to keep my momentum going.”

“Momentum is a hell of a thing”

“And closing out this year with the wind will do so much for my confidence and for my momentum going into next year. Going in with a win over someone like you and being the roulette champion ball just snowball into 2025 being a year that I’ll never forget. I need to beat you Daniel,, I need to be able to keep going with the momentum that started when I was able to beat Alexandra Raven. And I have nothing against you, I don’t dislike you, I don’t even know you. But I am going to do everything in my power for the final show of the year to walk out as a winner. And it’s up to you to stop me.

Ghosts of the past

Aiden was happy. And why wouldn’t he be? He had a beautiful wife, a beautiful son, friends and family. A career doing what he loved. He was making good money and was able to enjoy what he was doing as a profession. So many others don’t have that privilege. People work jobs they hate, they do jobs that are dangerous even more so than professional wrestling but don’t give the same amount of satisfaction. The truth is, Aiden was lucky.

But, like most people in the world, he had a past. A past we’ve covered the adventures of Aidan Reynolds and his life in Japan and what he dealt with. He had been betrayed by someone who he considered to be a brother, he lost a woman that he was in love with at the time. And as he traveled to America, he did everything that he could to try and rebuild that life. And what a rebuild job it was.

He trained at Wolfslair, a gym that had numerous world champions that had also had a small stint in SCW as a fraction. A faction that had become dominant in ways that so many people could never believe.

But what happens when that past comes back to haunt you?

Aidan was leaving the gym, stretching as he walked out and down the street ready to get his post-workout meal. Foot sub filled with roast beef bacon turkey ham and chicken. One that he filled with all sorts of other fresh veggies and fats and carbs. Because let’s face it, he’s a pig.

He looked at his phone his gym bag slung over his shoulder before a familiar voice made him stop in his tracks. A voice that he hadn’t heard in over six years. ”Aiden-san..”

Aiden turns slowly and blinks a few times. ”Hikaru?”

His heart left into his throat, it was her. Hikaru. His former boss's daughter. The woman who he had fallen deeply in love with, who had been wished away after their relationship was made public. The woman who was inadvertently the cause of his betrayals and fall from Grace. The woman who had unfortunately been the reason why he had to start over in a new land from nothing. And they are here she was standing in front of him.

”How?…why?”

He was speechless. Which, if you know him, is shocking in and of itself. He shook his head his mind drawing a blank with what he wanted to say. ”I moved here, to New York. And I heard this is where you lived. I guess I just wanted to see you.”

Aiden nodded slowly and stood back. ”Well… it’s good to see you. I’m glad that you’ve been doing well. I didn’t really hear much about you after you got forced away.”

Hikaru nodded moving closer ”I was forced to stay away. I studied, I laid low. But when I started working at a law firm a few years ago I jumped at the chance to transfer to their offices in America and last year I found out you live here too. I didn’t know if I should contact you or say hello because so much time had passed and…..I also know you are married…with a son..”

Aiden chuckled and shook his head ”Yeah, I am married, happily, and my son is amazing. But regardless of the great things I have in my life I still would have appreciated knowing that you were alright.”  He shrugged trying to choose his words carefully so he wouldn’t come off as cold or distant or cruel. ”There was nothing to be afraid of. You and I had something and you’re a great person. But all I wanted to know was if you were safe and if you were happy. I went through a lot. Your father, that old man could hold a grudge.”

”He still can..” Hikaru's voice went low, she looked down and away as her eyes burned with anger. Before Aiden could ask she ground her teeth together ”When he found out you were married, he let me go, letting me get settled in and happy before sending me information on you. That you were wrestling again, you had friends and family, he thought it would hurt me, but I was happy for you….I was just mad he thought it was all about you”

Aidens eyes widened and he pushed out a deep breath ”Damn, I’m sorry he did that….apparently he really did hate the idea of us together…” Hikaru nodded and Aiden sighed heavily ”Why don’t you come over for dinner?”

”W-what?”

Aiden smiled and folded his arms over his chest ”Yeah, legit. Kallie is a sweetheart and she is nice to everyone and besides I told her about you, it’s not like you’re some dirty little secret I kept hidden….she felt bad that your dad would do that to you…and me…”

Hikaru nodded slowly, still unsure before clearing her throat ”I’d love to….you seem so happy Aiden and I would love to meet the woman who did that…” The two talked a little more, a weight being lifted off his shoulders before they separated, his heart seemed to feel better, healed, like he finally had closure on a part of his life that he never knew he needed

Tuff

Aiden took a deep breath, he was unsure where to begin, unsure what to say. He rolled his shoulders and cracked his neck. He focused forward knowing that he needed to begin to get his thoughts out there.

”Well finally. Finally a match without Bill Barnhart being involved.”

He was relieved, clearly. Not having to think of new things to say against a man who was at this point in his career a complete joke.

”Look, I’m not going to sit here and say that you should never have a return or repeat matches against people. Hell, you can even have a series of matches in a row. But when it is so one-sided, when I am clearly the better man out of the two we don’t need to keep revising it. I have done nothing but beat the shit out of Bill Barnhart for the better part of two months. I’d like to think at this point we have a definitive answer which one of us is better.”

“Spoiler alert it’s Me. I’m better. And now that that part of my career is hopefully behind me I can move on and look to bigger and better things. Namely getting an opportunity at the roulette championship. I kind of like the whole idea about the roulette championship.”

“I mean shit I shouldn’t.”

“See, I have what they call an addictive personality. I need to be very careful with things like alcohol and gambling. Don’t believe me? My Call of Duty addiction was once so bad that I ended up on Prestige 10 within a month of release. My old-school Call of Duty nerds will get that one. That’s the kind of addictive personality I have. I developed an addiction to monster energy that was so terrible that my piss turned the type of neon green that you would expect if someone was hanging around Chernobyl 24/7…”

“So, a championship based around a casino gambling game probably isn’t something that I should be too deeply involved in”

Aiden shrugged and continued.

”The title is fuelled by chaos. A roulette wheel with all the different stipulations on it. It gets spun and whatever it lands on. That’s what we get to do. And I get to fight it out against LJ Kasey and Eddie Lyons… and this should be one hell of a match. I mean LJ is desperate to prove himself and Eddie has a massive chip on his shoulder.”

“And I get it. “

“See in this match you have three young names who are on the cusp of being in the main event. With a few wins over some big names you could see myself Eddie or LJ for the world championship. It’s not completely out of the realm of possibility here. Shit, we just saw Felix the cat beat fucking Kris Ryans”

“So anything can happen”

“ The thing is the three of us have also faced each other and come close to trading wins. I’ve beaten Eddie, I’ve beaten LJ and they have both beaten me.”

Aiden sighs and lets out a small laugh under his breath.

”Now, LJ is a weird case. See we’ve had a lot of siblings in this business. From entire families to twins to triplets we seem to attract whole clans coming into the professional wrestling business. And LJ is coming in and following a brother who never quite reached the potential that we all thought he had. So LJ is in a weird position we’re not only does he want to prove that he is on his brother's level he wants to prove that he’s better than his brother and can live up to all of the promise that we have seen in him.”

“And there’s the problem. You see LJ, you have a huge upside in this business and can show us all how talented you are while also showing us all that you are better than your brother. But what if you don’t? What if you try to do everything that you can to win the roulette championship or earn a shot at the world championship and you just never quite get there?”

“What if you fail in every single way?”

“It’s an interesting question, isn’t it? You can say that you’ll come back and you can say that you will do everything you possibly can to reach those goals and those attainable dreams but in the end, you haven’t shown us anything. You haven’t shown us that you’re good enough to be a champion and you haven’t shown us that you’re good enough to break out from the pack. Eddie and I have both had glimpses of it. But you haven’t. You haven’t done anything to prove to us or anyone and to show us that you are indeed special. Because you’re not special LJ….. and I don’t want to be that guy. I don’t want to be a complete prick in this but you’ve honestly left me no choice and sometimes there needs to be a small amount of tough Love.”

He raises his eyebrows and takes a deep breath before continuing.

”And then there’s me old mate Eddie. A guy who I’ve gone to war with. And if you look at the three of us. If you look at LJ and you look at Eddie and you look at me then you’ve got to say Eddie is the front runner to break that glass ceiling and get to the main event scene before us. LJ is nowhere near ready, and many would argue that I am just scratching the surface but Eddie? Eddie is right there. Eddie is looking at that glass ceiling and has his fingerprints on it.”

“So, I have to ask, Eddie. Are you sure you want to be doing this? I know that you’re gonna come into this match and you’re going to give it everything that you possibly can because you don’t know any other way. But you should be fighting for a championship match against Finn. You should be trying to get your hands on that world championship because I unlike LJ‘s idiot brother. You’ve actually got a pin for victory over Finn.”

“So why are you fighting it out for a chance at the roulette championship? You’re fighting it out to get a shot against Alexandra Raven and no offense to Raven because he’s a great roulette champion but he has had infinite championship opportunities at the world title and he has failed and now he is basically banished to the land of the roulette wheel. But what about you?”

“You should be wanting more and fighting for more. And I know that’s exactly what you’re gonna do. Are you gonna do everything you can to win this match because that’s just the kind of man that you are and that’s something that I respect about you. Any position that you are putting you fight tooth and nail to be the man who has his hand raised at the end of the match. You’ll do everything you can to beat myself and LJ you’ll do everything you can if you beat us to beat Alexandra Raven and get that roulette championship back. But sometimes man, your pride and that will win can hurt you more than it can help you. And I’m gonna take advantage of that.”

“I gave LJ some tough Love before so I’m going to do the same thing for you. I’m gonna do everything I can to win this match. I’m gonna do everything I can to have my hand raised at the end of it so I’m the one who is going to go on to face Alexandra Raven. So I’m the one who’s going to go for the roulette championship. Because it’s the only way that you were gonna open your eyes and realize that you need to be climbing for something higher, you need to be going for the world championship and you need to fucking fight for Eddie so, I’m gonna do everything I can to free of this burden and I’m going to go after the roulette championship. And I’m going to do it by beating you and LJ on climax control.”

You can’t choose your family

It was always interesting when Aiden’s family would come to visit. When his lovely wife Kallie’s family would come to visit, it would be a very calm and stoic affair. Her parents were very quiet reserved people who would enjoy quiet conversation and enjoyed the final things in life. That is not what his family was like. The Australian crew was loud brash and obnoxious. They were consisting of his father mother and older brother. Amelia, his sister who had also moved to the United States was not around, instead trying to avoid spending any time with their family. Something that Aiden completely understood.

He shook his head looking over at his father who seemed to be very confused by the way that Americans did things. Staring out the window and down onto the street he narrowed his eyes counting how many times he would see people walk past each other and not greet the person walking in the other direction. Something that in Australia was almost a prerequisite for life.

He was always confused about the cars to how they would go in the opposite direction on the other side of the road. Aiden shook his head looking over at his mother his eyes pleading for help to get her to walk over and pull him away from the window. His mother obliged grabbing hold of his father and leading him towards the kitchen to get something to eat. Took a deep breath trying to gather his thoughts before his brother Adam walked up behind him.

”Oi cunt why the sour lol?”

Aidens eyes widened and he turned and cut his hand over his brother’s mouth before shaking his head and looking around to make sure that nobody heard what he said ”Shhh mate… the Americans get really touchy. If you use that word you have to keep your voice down yeah?”

Adam said something his voice muffled by his brother’s hand. Aiden moved his hand out of the wave raising an eyebrow as Adam looked confused. ”Why? It’s just a word. Like fuck, shit, dick, all the other fun four letter ones” Aiden sighed and shook his head looking over and noticing his young son Dax sitting up on his playmate wide-eyed as he looked at his father and his uncle.

”Oi you fucking peanut you have to watch your fucking mouth. Your nephew is really impressionable right now and if you don’t cut this shit then he’s gonna end up with a little fucking potty mouth. So do me a favour mate and stop being such a loudmouth dick.”

Dax blinks a few times before giggling his little voice ringing out ”Dick!”

Aiden and Adam stood there for a moment shocked that Dax would say such a thing. Of course, Aiden had heard his son swear before and it would usually be followed by a swift slap from his wife. But this was the perfect opportunity to shift the blame. ”You see what you did? Do you see what kind of bad influence you are, mate?”

Before Adam could say anything, the door opened, Kallie stepped in with a smile walking up to Aiden and kissing him on the cheek. ”Hey! How’s the visit going?”

Aiden smiled ”Yeah it’s great. Nothing is going wrong, everything is fine, Dax is doing great, no bad influences going on here.”

”You’re an idiot…”

As Adam walked away Kallie looked confused. She looked down at Dax picking him up ”And how’s my Daxy?”

”Shit!”

Aiden swallowed hard Kallies eyes widened. But as she turned to tell off her husband he was already gone. Her eyes narrowed. She shook her head and growled. ”Aiden!!!”

Whooping the dog

”So what is it about facing Bill Barnhart that has annoyed me so much? I want everyone to think about this. About 40% of my matches in this company have had Bill Barnhart involved. 40%. Almost half of my matches that I’ve had in this company have had that fat arsehole somewhere in or around it. That is unacceptable.”

Aiden folded his arms over his chest he’s normally chill exterior replaced by a look of frustration and anger. His nostrils flared as he shook his head.

”My last match in this company was at the last supercar. And my last opponent was Bill Barnhart. He and I went against each other in a street fight. A match that I won. Any time he and I have been in a match one on one. I’ve walked out the winner. So he’s my question, why am I continually getting books in matches against this man? Why am I continually being forced to get in the ring and fight the same guy weekend and week out?”

“I want to move on from Bill. I want to be able to go and face new challenges. I want to be able to go for the Internet championship or the roulette championship or have some kind of clear path to earn these matches. I’m not going to earn shit by facing the same guy week in and week out.”

“Not to mention it’s getting really hard to come up with new ways to insult this man.”

Aiden rolls his eyes.

”I know! I know exactly what I can do. You see Bill, you went on this large rant and tangent about how I apparently talk nothing but shit and I just say senseless scenes. That’s hilarious. Mainly because you run your mouth and constantly go on tangents about shit that no one cares about. Meanwhile, I produce facts. Fact number one you are a joke. That’s not an opinion that’s a fact. People laugh at you, people think you’re an idiot, people never take you seriously. The fact is the only way that you can get wins is if you go up against people who are quite honestly horrible or you go up against people who Are just plain unlucky.”

“You don’t get wins because of your talent or skill, you get wins based on pure luck. Any time you have ever beaten someone with a name in this business it has just been dumb luck and in a rematch, you’ve been slotted. Again not an opinion…a  fact.”

“I’m sick of you. I’m sick of your face. I’m sick of your stupid promos. I’m sick of seeing you in the ring. I’m sick of your wife. I’m sick of your dog. I’m sick of your friends. I’m just playing sick of you. I faced you over and over again and I’ve always been the one who comes out of our matches looking like a winner while you look like a loser.”

“I’m sure you are used to that with everyone”

“But facing the same opponent weak and weak out is starting to take its toll on me. I want this to be the last time. I have to see your stupid face. The last time I have to get in the ring with you, the last time I have to verbally run you down. It’s getting tiring Bill. And I am tired. Tired of facing you over and over again, I’m tired of having to listen to your voice. I’m just sick of it. So this week I’m gonna walk into that ring. I’m going to beat you down. I’m gonna have my hand held high and then I’m gonna leave. I’m gonna leave you in the rearview mirror and I hope to God I never have to see you again because I’m sick and tired of Bill fucking Barnhart”

Square peg, round hole

Aiden was constantly walking on eggs. Eggshells as it were. Constantly trying to make sure that he wasn’t doing anything to annoy, piss off, or set off Florence. His living girlfriend. The tattoo artist that he had started dating. It was a whirlwind romance one based on lust and looks and less off of who they were as human beings. At first, Florence seemed to be supportive and kind but very slowly she started trying to change everything about Aiden.

She tried to change someone after being in a relationship with them. Everything she did was trying to make him more responsible or not as wild or change his thought process. And this entire situation, this whole toxic relationship was doing nothing but make Aiden miserable. It was something that had to be pointed out to him and shown directly to his face. And then a moment of friendship and caring Dickie Watson has slapped him in the face with the truth.

The day started like any other, Aiden would get up. He would roll out of bed after working a night shift as a bouncer. A job that Florence had thrust upon him. He made a protein shake chugging down through some laundry into the washing machine and then went to the gym. He would then come home eat and try and take a nap.

But then the problem would come home.

Florence would return angry after work due to there being a massive downturn as well as her clientele leaving her. ”I'm so sick of this shit…”

Aiden wanting to show empathy puts an open beer in front of Florence. Sitting down next to her with a small disarming smile. ”Aye I’m sorry love”

”Sorry? You could make things a lot easier if you’d just get a real job and stop wrestling Aiden…”

Aiden sits back his empathy leaving him. In his mind, all he could think was the same thing over and over again. Here she goes again ready to blow up over nothing. ”I do have a job and I’m also wrestling. I make money from both…”

Florence grunts and gets up pacing back and forth. ”Do you? I mean really Aiden. You could make so much more money from a regular job instead you’re bouncing so you can have your time at the gym and go do your wrestling matches. It’s time to grow the fuck up.”

Grow the fuck up

Those words echo throughout Aiden’s brain. That was the problem. She thought. He was a child who didn’t know what he was doing with his life. She wanted him to grow up to get a real job or whatever it was that most people did with their lives. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes before standing up and walking away. ”Really? Walking away?”

Aiden stopped. He took a deep breath trying to calm himself before turning around and putting his hands up. He had enough. Dickies words echoing through Aiden‘s brain along with every other comment that she had made him pointing out the fact that he was miserable had finally made him snap ”You no I’m a grown arse man right? You want to sit there and talk about how I need to grow up? I packed my shit and I have traveled the world since I was 18 years old.”

”But you still don’t take care of yourself-“

Aiden put his hand up before continuing ”I lived in Japan for three years. A country where I didn’t know the language and I didn’t know the culture and I didn’t know how to pay bills and I figured that out and navigated it. I have had a successful life and then I have moved here and you have made me feel guilty about pursuing my dreams and pursuing who I am and I’ve had enough Flo. it’s over I’m done.”

”Aiden.”

He shook his head, stepping back towards the bedroom door ”I said I’m done…we are done…” Aiden moved to the bedroom door closing it behind him. He felt like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders like he was finally free and he could finally breathe again and just be himself. Now is the hard part separating his and Florence’s lives. So he could finally begin his own. He pulled out his phone swiping it open before picking it up to his ear.

”Aye…mate I need a favour…”

Wild Card

”Well I’m sure what you are all thinking is that I have a lack of what I would like to call a co-star today. See most of the time I have someone I can bounce ideas off of. Someone that can help me talk shit. But right now, I don’t need anyone like that. You see. I need to get this runaway train back on the track. I’ve been swerving all over the place like a drunk on the road. And I need to stop.”

Aiden pauses his large arms folding over his chest as he stares straight ahead.

”I got in the ring with our world champion. I did everything I could to go toe to toe with him and in the end, he beat me. It was an expected result, right? The world champion to beat me? I get that. But I’d like to think that I was able to claw a little bit of respect from each and every one of you who thought that Finn was just going to destroy me and walk over me like I was nothing. I have done everything in my power to be taken seriously as a professional in this company and there are some people who still doubt me and think I’m just a fucking clown with an Australian accent. I’m sorry but that position has already been filled. Krystal Wolfe stand up and take a fucking bow.”

“So after losing to our world champion where does that leave me? Well, I got put in a wildcard match. The winner of this match gets an Internet championship match. I swear to God this company. It is a constant cycle of people being thrown in multi-man matches to get championship shots. There is no working up to anything. There is no hierarchy. There is no ladder that you climb where you can start from the beginning and work your way up through which division it is just a case of grabbing everyone that they can put them in a match throwing shit against the wall and seeing what sticks.”

“This might sound a little harsh but it’s true”

“I understand that this is how things have always been done in this company. And don’t get me wrong I like SinCity wrestling. It’s why I decided to sign a contract here. But at the end of the day, I would like some form of direction I would like to know what I’m fighting for and why and I would also like to know why I’m getting opportunities. Here I am in a match which is essentially a number one contenders match for the Internet championship and I’ve lost three fucking matches straight. I should not be in contention for anything.”

Aiden throws his hands in the air pacing back-and-forth clearly frustrated at what is going on right now.

”I don’t want any of my opponents to start getting excited. I’m not saying that any of them deserve to be in this match either. Justin Smith is a running joke in this company. He is the answer to a question. No one asked and the more I see him the more I question just why he has a contract. The dude turns up does the minimum amount of work every single time he’s booked and then sits and just shrugs like it doesn’t matter to him. He doesn’t care about his job so he’s a detriment to others. He turns up in tournaments like The Blast from the past people get matched up with him people who actually want to win the tournament and said they were handicapped by someone who is lazy and shouldn’t be here.”

“Justin pack your shit and leave. No one wants you here. No one wants people who treat professional wrestling like a joke and you treat professional wrestling like a joke. I might make jokes. I might be a smart arse but I’m not like you. When I step in a ring, I do so as a professional when you step in the ring you do so as a fucking jester.”

“But at least with Justin you look at him and you know that he understands he’s a joke. No one takes Justin Smith seriously not even himself. But then you’ve got someone like Bill Barnhart. A guy who tries to take himself seriously but everyone else hasn’t been lending on the job. Bill you constantly come out and say stupid bullshit that no one believes and then when we call you out on it you just ignore it. You keep saying you’re going to win all of these matches and do all of these things and when your promises don’t eventuate instead of taking a step back and looking at yourself and trying to bed yourself, you just stick your fucking head in the sand just like your  moron wife…”

“You are nothing but a fat waste of space with a bad goatee, stupid sunglasses, an ugly dog, and an even uglier wife.”

“Now that is Tweedledee and Tweedle dumb ass now I’m onto two guys who should be way better than they actually are. Unbreakable Eddie Lyons and LJ Kasey…”

Aiden pauses for a moment taking a deep breath before his eyes open and he continues.

”LJ buddy, you are starting to fall into the exact same trap that your brother is. You’re starting to be looked at as someone who is never going to live up to their potential. Honestly, it’s a trap that I’m stuck in. All I keep hearing is how I pushed Ben Jordan to his limit, or how good I did against Finn, or how awesome I did against Alexander Raven even though I lost all three of those matches. The word potential is an albatross that is hung around your neck when people don’t believe you’ll ever reach where you should. It’s something that has been used when it comes to your brother and now it’s been used with you as well.”

“I’m not going to allow myself to get trapped in the story of potential. I’m not gonna let myself get trapped by that word and neither should you. This is a chance for both of us to break out from that. The only thing is only one person can walk away with the Internet championship shot. So I don’t know mate, maybe it will be you, maybe it will be me, or maybe it will be Eddie.”

“I mean let’s face it. It’s gonna be one of us three the other two can’t win shit.”

“But week after week I have been showing Eddie Lyons respect. And I’m sorry Eddie but I only have so many verbal blowjobs in me before I start to get lockjaw. I like you mate I do, and I respect what you’re able to accomplish but how much can you really say about a man who should be fighting for the world title but instead is still stuck down here with us? And I’m serious. You should have moved on to challenge Finn. You should be the one going for that spot. You should be the one pushing to be in the main event but instead, you’re complacent and happy to be down here with us. Trying to put my career back together and trying to climb the ladder LJ is trying to get out of his brother's shadow and the other two nitwits are just here because they have nothing better to do. But you? You’ve become complacent with your position, complacent with being in the Internet or roulette championship pictures…”

“Everyone needs to grow and build themselves. That’s what I’m trying to do in this match. But you Eddie? You should be going for the world championship, LJ. You need to start thinking about being better than your brother and Justin Smith? Will meet you just need to fuck off no one cares. And Bill? Bill whenever you’re done giving your wife the worst three seconds of her day and you decide to roll off of her and join us in a match will be waiting to kick your head in. But until then, deuces, fuck you all, I’m out….”

The mirror in front of our faces.

When you’re in a bad situation, sometimes you can’t see it. We all want to believe that our lives are perfect. That the imperfections of those perfect lives are just bumps in the road on the way to what we want. It’s true with everything in life from jobs to family relationships to personal relationships and friendships all of it together seems to be woven in a way that if we are in a bad spot we don’t want to see it or don’t want to accept it.

Aiden Reynolds was in such a situation. But he couldn’t see it. He didn’t want to see it. He thought the relationship he was in was good for him. Florence was a levelheaded woman. She had a steady job that paid well and all she wanted was for him to be a stable boyfriend and partner. The only problem is that Aiden has his own life and his personality and the man that she wanted was not the man that Aiden was. There was nothing else that could be said and nothing else that could be done but instead of them agreeing that they were in a relationship that had no future, they kept trying to fight for it. Or at least, Aiden did.

He tried to change for her. He had a part-time job while trying to keep his wrestling career afloat. It made him miserable, it destroyed everything about him. His personality started to change, he tried to be more straight-laced and normal. But what was normal? Anyone who knew Aiden could see the difference in him and most of them didn’t like it. But it only took one person to make him see that. One person to open Aiden’s eyes to the horrible situation he found himself in.

Dickie Watson.

He was Aiden‘s best friend and Finn Whelan‘s younger brother. Aiden and Dicky had become almost inseparable even starting to team together on local independent events. Dickie had a straight-laced sense of humor and a dry delivery of his jokes which contrasted with Aiden's almost manic delivery of anything he said. And the most important thing was Dicky didn’t mince words. He meant what he said and he said what he meant. And here the two friends were, Aiden just finishing a workout at Wolfslair and meeting Dickie down the road for lunch. The two friends enjoying their food Dickie pile of chicken nuggets and fries Aiden, ribeye steak with potatoes, and a second steak on top of the first steak

”Dude….how?”

Aiden cut the ribeye in half and then half a gain stuffing a piece in his mouth chewing it or at least pretending to chew it before swallowing it almost like a duck. ”I like steak…” he said it with such a casual matter-of-fact nature that dicky didn’t bother to question it. Aiden put the second quarter of the steak in his mouth and swallowed it. ”I feel like I haven’t eaten in a week. Flo has me on some kind of vegetable diet with macros and whatever the hell else she was talking about and it has no meat. I feel like I am wasting away here.”

Dickie raised his eyebrow. Clearly, Aiden was not wasting away and he was just being facetious. He was still a hulking man with large muscles. While he was only 6’1 he weighed in at about 220 pounds. ”Yeah man.. you look like you’re anorexic”

”Mate, I’m from Australia, I’m totally not afraid of spiders”

Now, it is important to note at this point in Dickie and Aidan‘s friendship. He wasn’t completely used to the fact that Aidan used stupidity and jokes to mask who he was. Dickie blinked a few times, his brain hurting from the comment that was just made. But there was something else he wanted to talk about and the conversation involving a diet was something that exasperated his point. ”So, I can’t help but notice that you seem to be doing a lot of things that you don’t want to do for Flo”

”Yeah. I mean, that’s what I’m supposed to do right? You know when she’s wrong and I’m right she’s still right and when she’s right and I’m wrong she’s still right? At least that’s what I’ve been told.” he laughed it off feeling awkward about this conversation and situation. The truth was that he was miserable with Flo. He just didn’t want to say it out loud.

Dickie shook his head, he wanted to be honest with his friend but also didn’t want to overstep his balance. He cleared his throat and reached up scratching the back of his neck as he leaned against the chair. ”You know it’s okay not to be okay. Most relationships are built on compromise, and I’ve gotta be honest man not anything that you two have decided has ever been a compromise. I’m not saying that Flo is a horrible person or some kind of evil succubus sent here to steal your soul and make you a husk of a human and no longer a man but I’m also not saying it.” Dickie cleared his throat ”Allegedly”

Aiden slowly put his fork and knife down. Sitting back unsure what to say. But there was a glimmer of acceptance in his eye. Dickie was right. But Aidan didn’t want to admit it. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath before opening them and looking across the table at his friend. The only friend who had the balls and the respect to actually be honest with him. To tell Aidan what he had seen. tell Aiden how he felt. ”I have no idea what to do. I thought I loved her Dickie. Really I did. She and I, we don’t work. And every day I wake up and I try and go about my life and I try and find some kind of joy in it, but she seems to be pulling all of that joy away from me and I don’t know how to make it stop.”

”Leave..” the way Dickie said it was so matter-of-fact. Hayden had no idea what to say back dicky shook his head and threw his hands in the air. ”Leave dude… nothing is saying you have to stay with someone just because you’re in a relationship. In fact, it takes way more courage to walk away from a toxic relationship than try and stick it out and stay with that person. Just leave Aiden you clearly aren’t happy bro and all of us every single person who cares about you and every single person who considers your friend knows it”

Dickie pops his final chicken nugget in his mouth popping up from his seat he knew he needed to leave Aidan to his thoughts. He walked around the table, padding his friend on the shoulder as he walked down the street. Hayden took a deep breath looking up to the sky still unsure of what he should do but the picture was at least a little bit clearer now.

I’m fucked

Aiden took a deep breath. He paced back and forth, he suddenly stopped and turned to the camera looking like he was about to say something. The moment passed and he shook his head continuing to pace. After a few more laps he stopped again turning to his left this time instead of his right but again he said nothing. He started mumbling to himself before stopping and this time instead of saying something to the camera, he turned and yelled throughout the house

”DICKIE! HEY DICKIE!….”

”What?”

Aidan jumped spinning around and finding Dickie standing behind him popping pieces of popcorn into his mouth and chewing them obnoxiously getting oddly close to Aiden who recoils back and shakes his head.

”You’re like a fucking cat mate. We need to put a bell around your neck or something.”

Dickie rolled his eyes and shook his head.

”What were you yelling about?”

”It’s time. It’s definitely time. It’s time to do the stuff in the things and then and everything.”

Dicky stepped back, looking confused

”The The you know promo stuff”

Aiden throws his hands one way then the other way and then finally back at the camera that is right in front of them.

”I haven’t asked you to do any of this in months. Months. I’ve sat back and I’ve politely waited while you dealt with your little yakuza thing.”

”You mean..my life?”

”Yeah that thing. I waited through that not asking you for anything. But I need you now. I need you on my side and I need you here to do what we do. Best cut sarcastic, borderline offensive promos in front of a camera that makes people laugh and forget that I am in fact a good professional wrestler. I need you Dickie I need you. I miss you. You are my other half, my guiding light in this world of horrible darkness please be the Robin to my Batman, the peanut butter to my jelly, the Oprah to my unfortunately timed weight gain”

”……no.”

Dickie popped another piece of popcorn in his mouth turning around. He walked away and Aidan threw his hands in the air pacing back and forth game before looking over at the camera realizing he should probably say something substantial.

”Right. So here’s the thing. Literally, everything I thought of saying I kind of needed Dickie to bounce off of especially since you know I’m facing his brother. So I’m just gonna have to wing it and I just wanna apologize if anything I say comes off unhinged or actually no I’m not the one who needs to apologise. I had a plan and when you have a plan you stick to the plan you don’t deviate from the plan. That’s what makes it a plan so now I’m gonna have to go rogue. I’m gonna have to run my mouth….”

“THANKS DICKIE”

”You’re welcome

Aidens eye twitches.

”Look, I recognize that I’m not really the big challenge that Finn probably thinks he needs. Hell, I don’t even think I’m the big challenge that he needs. He’s the world champion. He’s a two-time world champion a former roulette champion and the longest training mixed tag team champion in history. the thing is none of that feels relevant at the moment. Because stating that Finn Whelan is a great wrestler is kind of stating the obvious. And the more I think about it the more I realize that most people don’t know how to give or take compliments in this business.”

“And if there’s one thing I know about Finn, the man is that he really doesn’t take compliments too well. And I don’t know why. Finn mate you are one of the most successful people I’ve ever met in my life. You have wayward restless living at your home and you barely see them not because you’re never home but because your apartment is the size of an entire floor of a luxury apartment complex. you could walk from one end of the apartment to the other and you’d have to stop off and get a drink if not you’d be dehydrated.”

“I mean shit dude..”

“So many people would kill to have your life. You are a world champion you are successful. You have the money you have prestige, you have a beautiful, slightly attractive, well slightly above average I guess if you’re into that kind of thing girlfriend.”

“But even with all of this. The rest of us just kind of sit and look at you with awe and shock. And it’s not because you have these things it’s because you have these things and you’re still just so goddamn miserable.”

Aidan throws his arms in the air again, flinging around like some kind of spoiled child

”Finn, mate, you know that I like you, you know that I consider your friend. You helped me when I was down and you know that I’ve always got yours and your brother‘s backs. But coming from one person to another you have to realize that you are one of the most miserable people that we’ve ever met. legitimately nothing seems to make you happy. You have it all and instead of enjoying it, instead of looking at your success and everything that it’s brought with it and allowing yourself to think that you are worthy of it and that you want to enjoy your life instead you just stand there like some kind of Emo Gerard Way looking bitch. and I just don’t understand it.”

“I get accused of never taking anything seriously. Meanwhile, you’re over here taking everything seriously you don’t take a step back to look at your life and enjoy it and it’s sad. It’s sad because you seem like you always have to be the thin Whelan that you were 10 years ago. you want people to believe that you have changed but you don’t show anything to the contrary.”

“You were miserable with your ex-wife and now you’re miserable with Kayla. And look my opinions on Kayla are extremely well-known and documented but that girl loves you and wants to spend time with you and none of us understand why because being around you sometimes feels like we are in a very slow vortex of depression. and we all want to stop it. I’m using this time right now where I should be talking about our wrestling match to appeal right to you.”

“Open your eyes and enjoy your life. Now one way that you might be able to enjoy your life is by getting in the ring with Me and having an all-time great wrestling match. And I’m going to bring everything I have to go after you and I get it, I’m not exactly the most intimidating person in this place. My win-loss record isn’t setting the world on fire. My roulette championship rain was a joke. I get it. but you know damn well not to underestimate me. You know damn well that I’m going to do everything I can to beat you. And I want the best Finn Whelan that has ever been. If I don’t get that then why the fuck am I even in this business”

Toxic

You know sometimes you can try and make a relationship work when you really shouldn’t.

It is a fatal floor in the human condition. We are social creatures and we want to be with people. Sometimes that leads us to trying to save relationships which should be left to wither and die. Yeah I know this is a really heavy premise to be opening up this with. Especially since this has to do with Aiden Reynolds. Are you sure you are viewing the right one?

Look, here were all about the laughter but when it comes to certain subjects you need to have a heavy hand. And the duality of a relationship is definitely something that needs to be looked at with respect. As humans we enjoy the company of others, but what happens if you get in a relationship with someone that just doesn’t fit with you? Your personalities clash you and are making each other more miserable than you would be if you were just alone?

Why would you not cut your losses and leave? It’s why we see people get divorced, that’s why we see people cheat on others. It’s not always about the power or the desire sometimes it’s just about needing someone who listens to you and understands when the person that you are supposed to be with doesn’t. don’t worry you’re not about to see Aiden become a cheating arsehole. That’s not his style. However, we do join Mr. Reynolds sitting at home, with his best friend Dickie Watson. A few years ago, obviously, before he was with his current wife.

Yes, buckle up. This is going to be a Florence story.

Aiden and Dicky smile and laugh as they sit near each other. Willow, the wombat that Aiden had stolen… I’m sorry I mean liberate from the zoo sniffs around the floor near him. She’s obviously looking for food as Aidan reaches up and grabs across off his sandwich, ripping it off and handing it to the wombat. She takes it from him and chews it while making grunting noises. Aidan scratches her behind the ear, dickie tilts his head and laughs to himself.

”I really don’t understand how you somehow got a wild animal to act like a fucking dog” Dickie chuckles, Aiden shakes his head and scratches Willow along the side, causing her to lean against the couch and look up at him with a loving glare.

”Mate. Wombats are smarter than dogs….” Dickie turned his head and looked down at Willow, then back at Aiden with an unbelieving smirk. ”I’m completely serious. When I was a kid there was one who lived near us in a burrow. I swear he knew when we were home and come ask for food…”

Dickie blinked a few times. Not sure what he should say or if he should even believe him. The door lock clicked and opened. Aiden took a deep breath and looked over his shoulder. Flo stepped in and sighed heavily throwing her bag on the table. ”What a horrible fucking day…” She stepped in looking over at Dickie and sitting down.

Dickie gave her a small nod and got to his feet. ”well I better jet….see you at the gym tomorrow..” Dickie stood up and offered fist bump. Aiden reciprocated and stood up as Dickie headed to the door.

As Dickie left Aiden grabbed a beer for Florence, opening it and putting it down in front of her. They sat next to each other and Aiden put his arm around her. ”Come on love…tell me about
your day…what was so bad about it?”

Flo sighed heavily and rubbed her feet. ”I had two clients who wanted cover up jobs. And they both complained about pain….who comes to a tattoo artist to cover up bad jobs and then complains about it?” she was frustrated, she was angry. But she had a point. Aiden gave a small smile and gave her a squeeze.

”Aye i’m sorry Love, that sounds horrible. But knowing you…you did a great job.”

She barely acknowledged him, just nodding slowly as she sat back and took a drink. Willow came trotting out of the bedroom looking up at them both tilting her head. She snorted, and then farted. ”Argh really?” she set up. Clearly angry at what just happened. Snatches the beer off the table and gets to her feet stomping towards the room.

”Hey..what’s wrong?”

She stopped before reaching the bedroom, pivoting on her heels to spin around and look back at him. ”Whats wrong?” she narrowed her eyes and stepped closer before folding her arms over her chest. ”I bust my ass, I have a bad day, and then I come home expecting that I’ll be able to relax only to be confronted with the little hairball that you stole from a fucking zoo….”

”Hey Willow is part of the-“

”Don’t you finish that sentence!” she pointed a finger right at Aidan, her eyes burning with anger. ”This is not how I wanted to spend my night…you can stay out here with her..I’m going to bed.” she stormed off going straight to the bedroom, she slammed the door behind her and Aidan looked down at Willow ”Argh it stinks in here!”

”Was it something you said?”

Grunt.

One is a match, two is a fued.

”Ya know, there is the old terminology. You win some you lose some. But in this business winning is how you get paid, losing set back your momentum. And everything that you need to do is laid down in front of you and so obvious.”

Aiden chuckles and shakes his head. It is obvious but not in the way that you think.

”Summer Xxtreme is one of the biggest shows of the year. And the ultimate X match that happens for the roulette championship is always a feature. I mean come on, ring roots suspended over a pool with the Roulette championship strapped across the centre. Four competitors all trying to get up there to get the championship down with the danger that you can be eliminated by falling into the pool. It is a marquee match, something that people look forward to every single time that SuperCard is announced.”

“I had a shot at reclaiming the roulette championship. The championship that I lost to Alexander Raven, but in the end I took a dip. I fell into the pool and I got eliminated. So that old adage, you win some, you lose some. It played in my head over and over again and while I’m not going to sit here and make excuses and try and cope like some other people do it would be foolish of me not to acknowledge the loss., That is a problem that a lot of people in this company and the wrestling world large have.”

“They can’t handle losing so they either throw a tantrum or they completely ignore it. But losses are lessons.”

“It’s something that is said a lot at Wolfslair. Every loss makes you stronger. Every loss allows you to examine it and see where you went wrong. No matter if it’s a one on one match, or if it is a multi man match where you can lose by falling into a pool. You can learn through every loss and every win. Ignoring them does nothing. In fact in the long run ignoring your losses and acting as if nothing happened, damages your career. It damages the way you look at the professional wrestling business. And I refuse to be one of those people. So after watching that match back over and over again, after looking at my match against Alexander Raven the one where he beat me for the roulette championship. I’ve learned more than I would have if I just moved on and tried to act like nothing happened.”

He shrugs and faults his arms over his chest. He takes a deep breath before continuing getting ready to focus onto his opponent

”But now it’s time for me to get ready for the proving grounds series. And lucky me, I get to face my old buddy Eddie Lyons. And after the last match hand I had everything that I said I standby. I stood here and I told the world how great Eddie is. I told you all how he was a great champion and I told you all that he is a tough son of a bitch who hit harder than a truck. Guess what, nothings changed.”

“Eddie is someone who I honestly believe could be a future world champion in Sin city wrestling. Here’s someone who should be fighting for the top championship. Hell, I’m sure so many of you would love to see Eddie Lyons go one on one with Finn Whelan.”

“Instead Eddie has to face me again.”

“Now, part of me wishes that I was still a roulette champion. See Eddie was a great champion and after I was able to beat him and take that title I kind of knew that he had a rematch in his back pocket. But this match isn’t going to be for that championship because I had to go and lose it, as you all know. I got my arse handed to me by Alexander Raven. so the rematch for the championship was never going to happen. And while some of the blame needs to be put on my shoulders for not being able to get past Raven, you know who really is to blame?”

Aiden looks forward directly into the camera with a scowle on his face

”Victoria Lyons.”

He lost to himself and looks away before refocusing and continuing

”Your cousin Eddie. Instead of just letting nature take its course and letting you and I get into the ring to have a rematch and allow you the chance to get the roulette title back she put me against Alexander Raven. And he’s the thing, while she was doing this to punish me for beating you, I have a feeling she was also doing it to punish you for losing to me. Think about it. Really think about it.”

“Why didn’t you get your rematch? Instead, you had to share it with me, Bill Barnhart and the guy who was holding the championship.”

“It just didn’t sit right with me.”

“But now you have a shot at it. It’s not for the roulette championship Eddie, but this is your chance to beat me one on one. You and I faced once and I was able to walk out the winner. But proving grounds is a concept that interests me. this is your chance to prove that you can beat me. Your chance to prove that you should’ve had your rematch against me to get that roulette title back. And this is my chance to prove that first overview wasn’t a fluke. It’s my chance to prove that I belong. But I can hang with the best that this company has to offer. And that’s exactly what I’m going to do.”

Sometimes it’s hard to open up. When you are in a new place and around new people, let alone when you’re already carrying around some baggage and PTSD from your former friendships and relationships. But, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. If you are prepared to try hard enough and you are prepared to let people in then you can always have friendships and relationships. The problem though, is trust. It is hard to trust people once it’s been broken.

Even when the people around you are the ones who actually broke your trust. It can be hard to let people in. Hard to open up yourself and be yourself around them. Hard to know who you can and can’t trust. It’s something that Aiden was struggling with.

Wolfslair had given him a reputation. Most thought it was arrogance. That this Australian star, who had been in Japan for the better part of three years, was too good to be training at this New York gym that had really started to attract names. Everyone thought that Aiden was using his time in Japan as a way to keep everyone at arm’s length. Like he was a star and everyone else was just trying to become what he was. However, that could not be further from the truth.

Aiden was scared.

Scared of opening up to these people and scared of being himself. Scared that he was going to let someone get close and they were going to look for a nice soft spot in his back to jam the knife. He was scared of another situation like he had Steve. And he wasn’t looking for a relationship; in fact his heart was still broken. Even though it hadn’t been her fault the memory was there. But now? There was a girl in his life.

Yes, the one mentioned the last part of his story

Her name was Florence. She was tall, tattooed, had long black hair and wore lipstick that made her lips pop with an almost cherry red glaze. She had blue eyes and long eyelashes. She was a tattoo artist, she lived locally, and she didn’t give a shit that Aiden was a professional wrestler.

Whenever he wasn’t at the gym, Aiden was spending time with Florence. They would go shopping, walk along the street, talk, and just enjoy each other’s company. But very slowly, Florence had started to be an influence on Aiden. Outlandish things that he would normally say without even thinking started being met with angry glares and a stern voice. That’s right, she was trying to educate and civilize the savage Australian.

Because apparently the word Cunt is not as popular as it should be in America.

”Aiden? Are you listening to me?” He wasn’t. He was sitting across from her, a Chai latte sitting in front of him. Something he didn’t really want but that Florence ordered for him. He was more of a straight up cappuccino kind of guy. ”Hey…it’s a good job…” She reached out lightly touching his hand.

Aiden shook his head. ”Bouncin?…” his voice was filled with disappointment and disdain. He looked down taking a sip of the Chai latte and tried not to make a face.

Florence shook her head, obviously annoyed with Aiden‘s outlook and attitude ”Doorman. You would be a doorman.”

”Same thing love.”

Florence took a deep breath, shaking her head and calming herself down before leaning back and grabbing her latte, taking a sip. She swallowed hard and then leaned forward, changing her voice and making it slightly more calming. “It’s a steady paycheck.”

”Flo….i have a job” she posted her lips together, trying to keep her mouth shut as she could feel anger boiling up. Aiden shook his head and pushed out a deep breath before looking back across the table at her. ”Look, maybe I could do it for a bit. Just for extra money. But you have to understand, I’m a wrestler. It’s what I’ve done since I was old enough to get a real job. It’s what I trained for.”

She gave him a small smile. He had listened to her request. And instantly her demeanor changed. She went from clearly rigid and angry to happier and more supportive. I believe that’s called manipulation? “Alright. That’s fair. This way you have a real job while you continue pursuing wrestling.” Her voice took a condescending turn.

Aiden winced. It almost looked like he was in pain hearing that shot at his profession and his career. But, he wanted to make her happy. She was there for him, she had picked him up when he felt like quitting. So he felt like he owed her.

Kittens and Pussies

”Our hero, Aiden Reynolds sat in the lounge room of his apartment. Thinking about what he was going to say to his opponents. What exactly was a hero about to reveal? What jokes was he about to say?”

Aiden blinked a few times before very slowly looking up and over at Dimitri Watson, otherwise affectionately known as Dickie. He was Aiden‘s tag team partner and best friend as well as the younger brother of our Sin City Wrestling World Champion Finn Whelan. He tilted his head giving a smile at Aiden who farted his bra and rolled his eyes.

”Mate, what the fuck are you doing?”

”Narrating…”

”Don’t do that mate. It’s stupid.”

”I know…”

Aiden shook his head and got to his feet. He moved around and paced back-and-forth with his arms folded over his chest looking a lot more serious than you would expect this man to look.

”I know. I let you all down. Not just members of my family. Not just my friend Dickie, not just my beautiful wife Kallie, my son Dax. But all of you. All of the great fans who are tuning into Sin City Wrestling Climax Control week and week out when I’m performing. All of you fans who actually give a shit about my career. I know there’s a few of you, I see the comments, I see the tweets, I see all of the cool little messages left on the clips on SCW’s YouTube channel. I see all of you and I appreciate all of you.”

“But the better man one. Alexander Raven is a beast of human being. And as much as he seems to be struggling to crack through that glass ceiling to become a bona fide main event star in this company, he is still someone who you should never and I mean never underestimate. I got in the ring with that bloke and he absolutely made me look like an idiot.”

“And I deserved it.”

“Losing the Roulette Championship hurt. Especially since I just won the thing. I was able to beat Eddie Lyons, who is one of the toughest sons of bitches I’ve ever faced before and I was looking forward to try and continue the amazing work he had done with that championship and perhaps even defend against him in rematch. It hurts that I don’t get to do that, it hurts that I lost to Alexander Raven as good as he is. But do you know what hurts the most in this entire situation?”

”Your pride?”

”Nah…”

”Your self worth?”

”Nah mate it’s tha-”

”Your left testicle?”

”My left test-NO!.... the thing that hurts the most is that I let Victoria Lyons get one over on me. She was the one who wanted to get revenge against me on behalf of her cousin. This isn’t the type of underhanded stupid bullshit that Eddie Lyons likes. If he wanted to get revenge on me for winning that championship he would’ve done it like a man and come to me face-to-face and face me one on one. But his cousin is a vindictive little bitch who decided not to do that and instead booked Me in a match with the bloke who was fighting for the World Championship.”

“That’s what hurts.”

”Fair.”

Aiden takes a deep breath and closes his eyes before opening them slowly and refocusing.

”Now, returning to the ring after losing that championship is always going to be a hard prospect. But I’m getting into a match where I don’t even have to be pinned or made to submit to actually lose. A triple threat match. A match where I could get thrown out of the ring, hit my head on the floor, and then get up after 10 seconds only to find the one of the two guys I’m facing has ended up tapping out like a little bitch.”

“And the two guys I’m facing? Look, I try to see the good in everyone. I try to respect everyone because anyone who has the balls to get into a professional wrestling ring and throw their body around deserves it. But I find it so hard to respect someone like Justin Smith. This guy should be called Justin incompetent. Just a joke. Just another L in the loss column.”

“The fact I was able to claw my way up to becoming a champion only to lose that title so fast and then end up right back to square one where I started facing someone like you Justin? It makes me sick to my stomach. Now I can joke around with Dickie, I can say stupid shit, I’ve been through this before. But most people will notice that since I came into this company I have had a harder edge and I’ve been much more serious than I have been in other places. And the reason is simple.”

“I don’t want to be like you.”

“I don’t want to simply be a name on a roster, someone who is here just to collect a paycheck and go home. I don’t want to be an afterthought, I don’t want to be someone who is putting in the ring with people who everyone else knows is going to win. I do not want to be like you, Justin. Because to be quite honest with you? That is all you have become. You get in the ring with everyone else and nine times out of 10 unless something devastating happens you are on the losing end. You’re just here. What? Are you here to have fun? He’s getting beaten every single week like a government mule, fun to you? What kind of sick sado-masochistic motherfucker are you?”

“But he’s the good news for you. In this match I’m going to do everything possible to treat you like the lame duck that you are. I’m going to take you out back aim right between your eyes, pull back the hammer and end your miserable wrestling existence.”

Aiden slowly looked over a dicky expecting his friend to say something witty or funny or goofy. Instead, Dickie's eyes were wide and he just gave Aiden a small nod of approval.

”But as I mentioned, it’s not a one-on-one match. We also have the addition of Felix the cat.”

”Wait…a cat?...a wrestling cat?...like...Ollie?”

”MAAAOOOOOWWW!”

We smash cut sideways to find an orange and white cat. He is Ollie, the former Excellence Kitty, a fearsome tiger of a cat who once took on Chelsea Skye one on one inside a PWE ring, but has since retired to the comfort of ownership by Kayla Richards. of course she would never admit it, she just says that Ollie is a roommate. Of course, Aiden jumps, because he thinks the cat is secretly trying to kill him.

”What the hell is he doing here? Who let him in here?”

”Maow?”

Ollie looks Aiden up and down, he then jumps down off the back of the couch and wanders off. Aiden‘s nostrils flare and he swallows hard before shaking his head and refocusing back on Dickie and his question.

”Nah, Felix is human. I think. I dunno. All I do know about him is that he tried to win the roulette championship and failed, he tried to win the golden briefcase and failed, for some reason it says I was in that match on some sources. I don’t know. I was never here. Either way he has done nothing but fail. And he’s also really good friends with Bill Barnhart.”

“And that explains even more.”

“But, Felix, I don’t want to just call you a loser who is friends with a bigger loser and then walk away. I’m sure you have some redeeming qualities. Like, I don’t know, you have a rather impressive receding hairline and widow's peak. It takes balls to pull off or look like that. It also takes balls to turn up in this company being as big of a joke as you are. so I guess what I’m saying is, you have courage. And I admire that.”

“Doesn’t mean much though.”

“See, I don’t have to respect you, admire you, like you, hate you, I don’t have to have any discernible feelings towards you or Justin Smith. I do have thoughts, I do have feelings, I do have emotions and opinions. But when that bell rings none of that matters. And he why. Everyone in this business in this company only needs to be concerned with one thing once that bell rings. Winning. Every single one of us is here to win, every single one of us is here to earn the right to get championships because then we get more money and more glory and we are remembered for years. That is the whole goal of becoming a professional wrestler. Everything else we do is just window dressing.”

“So, I'm going to get in the ring with both of you at Climax Control 399. We are going to wrestle. Then I’m going to walk away the winner. That’s what’s going to happen. You two can go back to doing whatever it is you do and I’m going to go and get my goddamn Roulette title back….. or maybe the Internet I don’t know, whatevs…”

It had been a few weeks. Aiden had tried everything to get into a mindset where he could enjoy himself. But the truth is after what happened in Japan it was hard for him to trust. And he wasn’t about to just trust everyone at the gym. His days were filled with working out, often by himself unless he was in the ring with the rookies. afterward, he would have a shower, get some food, and retire to the small loft at the back of the gym that he had called his home for the foreseeable past and future

It was a lonely existence. Many high-ranking members of the gym had tried to talk to him. From Austin James Mercer to Alicia Lukas, to Alex Jones himself. But none of them could get through. He seemed to enjoy being alone.

But he could see the looks he was getting. Everyone would stare, they would want to go up to talk to him but would be apprehensive. The normally upbeat and goofy Australian had turned into a loner. Someone who is quiet and reserved. Someone who would rather spend time by himself than laugh and enjoy others' company.

Alex and Austin stood in the corner, talking with Alex‘s wife Sonya. They looked over at him, he could feel their eyes on him. He knew they were talking about him. Aiden shook his head as Austin made his way over. The tall muscular American smiled and gave Aiden a nod. He moved his hand up moving his hair behind his ears, as this was back when Austin still had his long brown hair and had the demeanor of a happier man

”Hey Aiden.” Austin gave him a nod, Aiden did it back and Austin folded his arms over his chest. Aiden started taking his wrist wraps off as Austin seemed to think over what he wanted to say. ”How are you finding Wolfslair?”

Aiden looked over at Austin. He nodded slowly again and threw his wrist wraps in the small black gym bag at his feet. He put his hands on his hips and tried to act relaxed but in reality, he had no idea what to say, he had no idea if he wanted to admit he’s been finding it hard or if he just wanted to play lip service, so many things were going through his head, he wanted to joke around but he was also terrified to. Instead, all he was able to mutter was one single word. ”Fine”

Austin grumbled, while he wasn’t the same angry, rage-filled force of nature back then, he was still grumpy and easily irritable. He ground his teeth together and looked over at Alex and Alicia, who both used subtle body language to push Austin toward Aiden. ”You sure? You haven’t really talked to anyone. You seem to do the bare minimum when it comes to ring work and also do the bare minimum in communicating with everyone else….”

Aiden took a deep breath, he didn’t want to act like a dick, he also didn’t want to tell Austin everything. Why would he? Where exactly would Aiden be able to begin with all of this? He entered a relationship with the boss's daughter, a man who had ties to the Yakuza, he then had a best friend and tag team partner who backstabbed him and then had to leave Japan. Only to land here. How exactly do you condense that down into a relatable and understandable, dialogue? ”I’ll try harder mate.” It was a very straightforward answer, direct, to the point. But it wasn’t the answer that Austin was looking for.

The hulking former world champion and default locker room leader of the gym just under the owner. Alex shook his head. He moved around in front of Aiden, tilted his head looking down. ”Look, I don’t know what you think is going on here, Alex brought you in because he sees something in you, but your attitude isn’t winning you any friends.”

”Friends?” That word was going to set him off. Aiden hated it. The last time he considered anyone in this business a friend he felt that cruel sting of a knife right in the base of his back. He swallowed and shook his head before leaning down and picking up his bag.”I ain’t here to make friends mate. I’m here to train and get better, last I heard this was a gym, not a bloody social club.” he went to breeze past Austin, however, Austin was not going to let him off that easy.

”You’re right, it’s not.” Aiden stopped and looked over his shoulder. ”But your attitude has rubbed a lot the wrong way. I mean what? You think you’re above us all 'cause you flew straight in from Japan?”

”Nah that ain’t i-”

”Alex wrestled in Japan, so did Alicia, hell so did that skinny kid over in the corner. So this whole”better than you” attitude needs to stop.”

Aiden could see now. His silence and stand-off nature had made people think he was arrogant. Made people believe that he thought he was better than everyone else. He swallowed hard and shook his head, that wasn’t what he wanted, that wasn’t what he was trying to do. He turned and took a few more steps toward Austin throwing his hands in the air before scratching the back of his neck. ”I don’t think I’m better than anyone….never said I did…” He took a deep breath and stepped back toward Austin. ”So…what do I do?”

Austin smirked and laughed under his breath. ”Come out with us….have a meal…a few drinks…”

Aiden cleared his throat, he looked around the gym at all the different faces. Some he had gotten to know a little bit about, others. He didn’t even know where they were until today. It sounded like a good idea, going out for a meal and a couple of laughs. It was something that, he would’ve jumped at Thida before. Something he did with so many others when he was in Japan. But right now? He wasn’t ready. He wasn’t ready to go out and do that, to put himself on the line like that. ”I’d like that mate, but…uh…not tonight yeah?”

Austin smiled and gave him a nod, something about the look in his eye that made him realize where Aiden was coming from ”Alright….so a rain check?”

”yeah…thanks.” Austin offered a fist bump, Aidan smiled and reciprocated before picking up his bag and heading towards the stairs. Austin went over and talked to Alex and Alicia. Alex nodded and smiled seemingly happy with The progress was made. Aiden needed to get out, he needed to feel fresh air and get away from this gym.

He threw on a T-shirt, sprayed himself with deodorant, and moving downstairs past the other students and members of the gym who were getting ready to leave, he made his way outside and started walking down the sidewalk. Not even looking where he was going. Staring at his feet is a shuffle along the concrete. Minutes passed by, and he couldn’t keep track of what street he was going down and then suddenly he felt a collision with someone else. ”Ahh shit sorry…”

He looked up, and standing in front of him was a woman. Long black hair with a few red streaks, full of tattoos, she clearly worked out but wasn’t a bodybuilder or wrestler of any kind. She shook her head and smiled. ”It’s ok these things happen…..my name is Florence…nice to meet you…” She smiled and offered her hand, Aidan couldn’t help himself. He smiled back and took his hand in hers, giving it a small shake.

”Aiden….nice to meet you…”

Queens Gambit

Aiden Reynolds, the new SCW Roulette champion. Who would have thought he would’ve won a championship so soon after entering the company? But here he was, holding the gold in his hands. He couldn’t help but smile but he also knew there was work to be done.

”Man, this is kind of nuts yeah? When I entered this company I had no idea what to expect. I joined the blast from the past because I thought it would be a bit of a laugh and I was interested to see how far I could make it. Not very far apparently. but, it also got my name out there. And that leverage and that knowledge led me into getting a championship match against Eddie Lyons…”

“Now, I stand by everything that I said about Eddie. He is an amazing professional wrestler, tough as nails, hits like a bloody truck. Eddie is the kind of guy that you want to have a match with because he brings out the best in you and that’s exactly what he did with Me. He brought out a side of me. I didn’t even know existed. when the dust settled I was the one who was holding the championship but I want you all to realize something, Eddie Lyons is one of the best in this fucking company.”

“And I can see Eddie challenging Finn for that world title”

“I get it. This is a little bit weird, right? Normally in this business, we like to badmouth our opponents. Rub salt in the wound when we beat them, but I’m not like that and I’ve never been like that. When I see a guy like Eddie Lyons, I realize that he thrives off of competition. he’s someone who needs respect and he is someone who deserves respect and that’s exactly what I’m going to give him. I would’ve given him respect if he beat me but it is also important when you beat someone to appreciate the fact that you have just beaten someone who would consider one of the best. If you keep verbally destroying people and running them into the ground then ultimately…..”

“Your victories mean nothin’”

Aiden laughs to himself and lets out a sigh of happiness. No matter what no one can take this away from him.

”Now, I want to be a fighting champion. And that means putting this championship on the line against anyone and everyone. Whenever I needed. Of course that doesn’t mean I thought that first show back I’d be defending it. But it appears as if our queen for a day had other plans. She wanted to punish me for beating her cousin. kind of weird isn’t it? Eddie is so respectful and ready to be the best company to offer and instead of giving him a chance to prove that and giving Eddie a shot at the world championship she decides to punish me for simply being better on the night.”

“Kinda weird.”

“Almost like Vicky doesn’t think her cousin can get the job done.”

“So, instead of helping her cousin out and giving him a championship match that he honestly deserves she instead gives a guy a championship opportunity who arguably doesn’t deserve it. All in aid of punishing me. It’s really vindictive. And honestly? I kind of dig it. After all, what’s the point in having power if you aren’t gonna use it? So I can’t understand that. But using one of your wishes on lil ol’ me? Ahh Vicky, I’m flattered.”

Aidan smiles, picking up a chocolate chip cookie and popping it into his mouth, crunching it up before beginning the next portion of his promo

”Now Alexander Rav-“

Before Aidan can continue Kallie Reznik his wife. Fellow wrestler and baby momma steps in.

”Aiden! Do not cut promos with your mouth full! You’ll choke!”

Then Dickie Watson, Aiden's best friend long-time tag partner, and younger brother of Finn Whrlan pops up.

”Still won’t choke as hard as Raven does in EVERY big opportunity…”

Kallie's eyes widen, Aiden swallows his cookie and clears his throat and Dickie smiles wide. Proud of himself. For being a little shit….

”Look, I wasn’t gonna say it….”

Aiden nods slowly and then looks up refocusing on his promo and his opponent.

”I ain’t gonna throw shit on Alexander. We all struggle ya know? We all go through hardship. We all have glass ceilings. And Raven has held this title before so it’s not like he ain’t a contender. It ain’t like he can’t beat me. In fact, I’d argue Birdy Boy is the favorite goin into this match. And I’ll explain why.”

“See, I know that I have been able to take SCW by storm. I know that I’ve been able to go toe to toe with guys like Ben Jordan and beat Eddie for this championship but at the same time, it’s not like I’ve been a dominant unstoppable force. I have my weaknesses. and I got eliminated very early in the blast from the past whereas Alex went all the way to the bloody final”

“Raven has been in main events, he fought for that world championship and he has been a champion here. Alexander Raven is not someone who anyone should ever underestimate. So all jokes aside about him choking more often than a porn star with a gag reflex, he is still dangerous. And he is someone who could beat me.”

“I’m not stupid. I completely understand this. I understand that I’m the underdog. And I’m fine with that. He has much more stock in this company than I do. He is someone that the fans know he is someone that a lot of you have marked as a man who will eventually be the world champion. And Me? I’m just a funny goofball.”

He shakes his head and laughs to himself again.

”But, one thing I will say is that it’s an honor to be going to war against a fellow Australian. I’ve been damn proud of what he and his wife of both been able to accomplish in this company. Not so much what Krystal Wolfe has done. I don’t think we’re going to want to claim her as an Australian. but the fact we are both from the same country is where the similarities end. Alexander Raven has someone who thrives on chaos, someone who is a deep thinker who waxes lyrical about literally everything that comes into his head.”

“He is a complex individual who always tries to analyze everything that he is doing and everything that his opponent is doing. He is a ring general who likes to sit there and watch tape and study before finally cutting a promo that makes everyone think because he likes to use big words very few of us. Me included.”

“Whereas I’m simple.”

“Shockingly simple someone would say. I just enjoy doing this job. I love professional wrestling. But for the longest time, the love of this business is all that kept me going. And I have to admit it wasn’t enough. There was a time when I wanted to walk away, a time when I wasn’t sure my heart would be in. But do you know it changed? Do you know what made me keep going, Alexander? Two things. My family and my desire.”

He looks over at his wife and child a smile coming across his face before he nods a dicky who stays uncharacteristically quiet

”My desire to be the best. My desire is to show everyone that I’m not a joke. But I’m not just a goofy guy who says funny things. But I am a real athlete and a real professional wrestler who is tough as names. I have gone toward pruning that by winning the roulette championship and now I have to keep going by beating you. See, if I lose this match against you raven I lose the championship and I have one of if not the shortest roulette championship reigns in history.”

“Do you know what that would do to me? Do you realize what that would do to my ego and my desire? Do you realize what it would do when it comes to how I view myself through the eyes of my family? Because that was the other reason why I do this. My wife, my kid, my friends. I want my son to grow up and look at me respect me and respect the career that I had and see that his father was not a failure. To see that his father did everything he could to prove that he was the best. That’s the kind of shit that drives me Raven. That’s the kind of shit that goes through my mind every single day whenever I’m in the gym whenever my muscles and joints are burning because I just need to do one more wrap. Whenever I’m in the ring with a guy who I know can beat the hell out of me.”

“When I hit the mat and that pain courses through me and most people will not get up. That is what drives me to get up. That is what drives me to keep trying to be the best. So you better bring everything that you have Alexander, you better bring all of that frustration and not being able to be the world champion and all that frustration of losing the blast from the past you better roll it up and you better bring it at me with everything you have because if you don’t? well if you don’t then you’re gonna fail again. And I won’t have the opponent that I deserve.”

Confrontation

”I fuckin told you to be careful bruv…now look what you have done..”

Steve was pissed off. The calmer half of the team, Aidens confidant, the first guy who talked to him when he arrived in Japan. They had been through alot together. But right now, none of that seemed to matter. Steve was pacing back and forth, his gear bag sitting on the floor of the lockeroom. Aiden was sitting on the bench, his elbows resting on his knees with his head resting on his hands in an upright position.

Steve looks down at Aiden and shook his head, clearly frustrated and angry. He turned and folded his arms before looking over at both their gear bags. ”When you shit where you eat, bad shit is bound to happen mate.” His british accent made everything sound more classy than it really was, times like this when Steve was trying to be serious Aiden would usually laugh. But this was no laughing matter.

They had turned up to the arena. Gear with them, a notification email from a few days before telling them they were booked for the show. That they had earned themselves a semi main spot against one of the best teams in the company. Winners would go on to get a tag team title shot at the next special events show. This was a big deal. This was what they had worked for. The two foreign stars who had steadily gotten the conservative Japanese crowds to become fans.

However, when they arrived, when they went to the administration office and position, their names had been erased from the card. Told they were no longer booked for the show. And after retreating to the lockeroom, it had become clear why. Steve was annoyed with Aiden. Clearly blaming him for what had happened. ”So what are we gonna do? Huh? This is our lives, our careers…”

Aiden took a deep breath and finally spoke up. ”We don’t know if that’s the reason mate. And even if it is, I ain’t backing off from Akari, she’s a grown woman and I like her.”

Steve shook his head and stood back. ”Yeah, I get that. But it’s not just YOUR career on the line here Aiden. It’s mine too. And you don’t seem to care about that.”

Aiden took a deep breath and stayed silent. It hit him, Steve was right, it was messing with him too. The door cracked open and a man in a black suit entered, he had shoulder length black hair, the front of it was slicked back over the top, he folded his arms and spoke in broken english but still well enough for Aiden to understand. ”Boss wants to see you….” Aiden stood up[, he and Steve headed toward the door. The well dressed man put his hand up in front of Steve. ”Not you…just him…”

Seteve looked over at Aiden, Aiden shrugged and gave his partner a pat on the shoulder. ”I’ll take care of it mate…”
The two men walked out and into the hallway, going through the winding backstage area. Passed officials and other wrestlers. Passed press and production crew. They went to the back of the arena to large silver double doors. Aiden had a chill run down his spine. What was in this room? Was it really Akaris father? Or was it a group of Yakuza ready to…eliminate the problem. He took a deep breath and the yakuza in front of him opened the door. Aiden nodded and stepped in. Taking a relieving breath as he entered.

The room was a standard office. The largest room in the arena, set up in a makeshift way with removable desks, chairs and a few briefcases sitting next to the legs of the desk. And sitting behind the desk, was an older man, his hair with a few grey flecks in it, dressed in a tailored grey suit with a dark blue tie. His glasses sat at the end of his nose as he looked at a few pieces of paper flicking through them. Aiden stayed silent, his hands behind his back.

The seconds seemed to drag by, a minute felt like an hour. But after a few minutes the older man put down the papera and looked up. His eyes were piercing and serious. Aiden had only met him once before. When he first started and signed his contract. Hahashi Kiriyu was a man with a reputation, he was strong, mentally and for a man of his age, physically. He sat back and purced his lips together before finally breaking the silence. ”I am going to speak in English, I understand you can understand Japanese but speaking it is difficult. Correct?” Aiden gave a small nod. Hahashi stood up. ”How long have you been contracted to my company?”

Aiden swallowed hard and breathed deep. ”8 months, 11 days and about 4 hours.”

Hahashi laughed and shook his head. ”You have worked hard to win over our fans. You and your partner have been getting popular, selling merchandise. I’m rather impressed with it.”

”Well, people I talked to said if you can turn the crowd here, if you can do it here…you can do it anywhere, sir.”

He chuckled and gave a small nod before folding his arms. ”Mr Reynolds. I had a plan when you were being brought in here. I was going to offer to pay out your contract, The next year and three months, as well as any perceived bonus payments and merchandise based on averages.” He pauses and moves around AIden who stays silent and still. ”I was going to offer this to get you to leave. It would have been alot of money to simply never come back to Japan…” Aiden still stayed silent. Hahashi shook his head and sighed heavily. ”But, I know that won’t work with you will it? Paying you to go away?.”

Aiden shook his head, answering with two words. ”No sir.”

Hahashi nodded in agreement before clearing his throat. ”So, instead what I will offer you is more simple than that…” He paused for a moment. Aiden didn’t flinch. ”Opportunity” He moved around Aiden with a deep breadth, trying to gauge the reaction. Or lack there of. ”Preferential booking and chances. Opportunities in my company to become a huge star and succeed. And in return….uou stop seeing my daughter.”

”No….” without missing a beat or thinking. Aiden blurted out his answer. Hahashi was caught of guard. Not knowing how to respond. Aiden swallowed hard and shook his head. ”With all due respect sir….none of this is your decision. Akari and I are adults. In charge of our own lives. And what kind of value would I be placing on myself or your daughter if I accepted this?”

Aidens words hung in the air. Hahashi took a deep breath and moved back behind his desk, placing his palms flat. ”I respect that answer. And under normal circumstances, another place or time….or another business….I would shake your hand and walk away. But this is not something I will let happen….so, take some time to think about my offer….you have a week…”

There was no point in arguing. Aiden knew that. He gave a small nod and turned, moving out of the makeshift office and out the door. The yakuza who led him there leaned against the wall next to the door with a smirk. ”You have balls….no brains…but balls…” He scoffed and moved passed Aiden. The Australian star swallowed hard and shook his head. A nagging feeling of dread hanging over him.

Failure

”Well, that sucked”

Aiden Reynolds, his head resting in his hands as he stares ahead. Normally flanked by a friend or member of his family. This time though, Aiden was alone. His usual joking demeanor changed into a serious one.

”failing is never easy. The truth is, I could sit here and tell you all about how losing and failing is a learning experience. That in losing a huge opportunity like this I learned something about myself and I can use that lesson as a way to push myself forward and get better. But really? Right now I just feel like shit. I had the biggest opportunity of my young career in this company, I could have teamed with Melissa and we could’ve gone onto win the blast from the past. Something that no one at Wollfslair has never done before.”

“Alex tried and Alex failed. Alicia has tried and failed. I had an opportunity to go forward and do this and skyrocket myself above everyone else and get a championship match. And the first hurdle I came across I spilled over it and fell on the ground. Failing is everyone else ran past me. it’s a feeling that I can’t describe. But it’s one that I shouldn’t have to. Unless you are incredibly lucky in this world you’ve tasted failure. You know that the world doesn’t end because of your failure. But you also know that for a little while, it stings.”

“And what stings the most is who I lost to. Mark Cross. Do you know what it’s like losing to someone who is so incredibly stupid? Well, at least I think he’s stupid. He might also be the smartest human being I’ve ever met in my life. He said could have quite sleep in there to put Me off my game. Saying that Alex Jones, a man who runs the gym that I am a part of, a man that many would say is a mentor to Me, Mark Cross singled him out and decided to talk shit. Saying that Alex played hot potato with championships.”

“Despite the fact that all of Alex‘s championship reigns except for one were longer than Mark cross’ world title reign.”

“So, either Mark Cross is an idiot who doesn’t know how time works, or he is a genius who knew what to say to put me off my game. The only problem is if he really is that stupid then I lost to someone who has absolutely no brains in his head whatsoever. and did teach me a lesson. It taught me that when you’re cutting a promo it doesn’t matter what you say. You can come up with intelligent arguments as to why you are better than your opponent and why you’re going to win but it means nothing when you can just bring out some made up bullshit that comes off the top of your head just because you feel like it.”

I can laugh to himself, looking up and across the room. He gets to his feet and runs her hands through his short Sandy blonde hair before cracking his neck and continuing.

”Still, not as stupid as what Eiley said. Saying that I was a fin wannabe. Because I’m clearly a self hating Goth and narcissist with too many tattoos and not enough brains. And by the way I say that in full knowledge that I not only live in the guys house but I’m also good friends with him. And his younger brother also happens to be my heterosexual life mate. Don’t worry, Kallie knows.”

“The fact remains that Melissa and I lost those two morons. Instead of going onto the next round of the blast from the past, I’ve been thrown a bone and given a singles match this week. A match with nothing at stake. And I don’t want to disrespect the city wrestling management crew all the people who decide who faces who but this match with all due respect is complete bullshit.”

“Instead of a second match in this tournament, I am now facing a guy who much like myself failed. That feels great. Facing someone else who is a complete failure. Thanks guys you couldn’t have given me someone who actually has a name in this company you had to give me someone who literally turned up just to be in the tournament.”

“Lyle Kasey Junior. Or LJ Kasey for short, although that doesn’t really make any sense does it? His name is Lyle Kasey Junior but instead it’s L J. Kasey. So is it Lyle Junior Kasey? That’s really confusing mate. You need to get your name sorted out and your messaging. Because I watched what you had to say last week and you could’ve had Jayden Harris by the balls but instead you went and ramble on about stupid bullshit no one cares about and also made yourself look like a freaking hypocrite”

Aidan scoff and shakes his head, folding his arms over his chest

”So, you are seriously going to stand there and go on at Harris because of who his family members are? He can’t help you. His father is any more than you can help her. Your brother is. And trust me on this Lyle no one‘s gonna give a shit about you unless you have a family contact like your older brother Miles. That might seem harsh but it’s true. You can’t sit there and talk shit about one dudes family while having the only reason that you are even here for your own.”

“You really put your foot in it. Because now when someone looks at you all they’re gonna see is the silly little twit who instead of focusing on who he is and why he is one of the best in the world, or rather wants to be, would rather focus on peoples family. when the only reason anyone knows his name or who he is is because of his family.”

“And I’ll be completely honest. I like your brother. He’s a good guy, he is a pretty brilliant wrestler and he knows what he’s doing in that ring and any time I’ve spent hanging out with Miles he’s been nothing but nice to me. We’ve had arguments about the Australian cricket team against the cricket team, we have talked about whether or not room temperature beer is better than an ice cold beer. By the way he’s wrong it’s an ice cold cold beer and if he brings it up to me again, I’m going to have his beer lukewarm by taking a piss in it…”

“But l, just because I like your brother doesn’t mean that I have to like you. In fact your attitude has already pissed me off. I join this company and saw the blast from the past tournament is way that I could kind of skip the line. But you’re another one of these people who join because of the tournament. So what if you had gotten a good partner and flute away all the way through to win? someone like you would never have been able to beat Finn. You go up against Finn and you get crushed. And then that would be the waste of a tournament. The waste of a win the waste of a title shot in short everything you would’ve done in this company would’ve been a waste.”

Aiden shakes his head and throws his hands in the air.

”I dunno mate. Maybe I’m being too hard on you. In fact I might be standing here and talking shit and looking like a right prick. It’s not like it hasn’t happened before. But with all due respect to you, a win over you gets me nothing. I just lost the biggest opportunity of my career to this point. And now here I am facing you. And for what? I bet you and I get nothing out of it. It doesn’t help me climb the ladder, it doesn’t help me get to worry I need to be. All it means is that I’ve beaten you. And this company at this point even with your last name? You don’t mean shit.”

“You might be talented, you might be a future world champion here. You might be the next big thing on the horizon that is going to take this company by storm. You might be. But right now, at this moment, you are a kid with a zero and one record in this company who went on the biggest stage of his career. At this point decided to prove yourself as a huge hypocrite and talk about Jayden Harris like he didn’t matter all because he had a daddy who is famous. kind of like your brother is famous”

“Now, you and I are going to get in that ring. We could steal the show. If you are half the athlete that your brother is, you might just put up a good enough fight that people watch this match and be absolutely blown away with the two guys in it. You might be a damn good dance partner. But that isn’t gonna mean anything when the dust settles.”

“This is a lose lose situation. If I win, I have just beaten a kid who means nothing in this company. If I lose I’ve just lost to a kid who failed in his one and only match in this company. So what does this get me? well, I have to look on the positives mate. Because honestly? It’s in my nature to be eternal fucking optimist. So this is going to be a chance for me to release a little pressure. To go out there and beat you down and to show the world what I can do. The beating that you’re about to take? I hope you don’t take it personally. Because this isn’t personal. I don’t know you Lyle. I don’t hate you, I have no real feelings towards you. You are just an opponent front of me. And it’s my job to get you out of the way….”

Danger Date

Getting to know people was always hard for Aiden. I don’t mean learning people's names or seeing them on a day-to-day basis, I mean really knowing them. And letting them know him. Despite outward appearances, Aiden was more of an introvert than many people realized. I know hard to believe. After all, this is the same guy who would do a “shoey” and then a “nudie run” around a park.

And if those words don’t mean much to you then I don’t blame you. This is Australian slang and I’m not even sure I  know what it means.

But it was true Aiden didn’t let a lot of people in. He talked to everyone. He laughed with everyone. He joked with everyone but as far as letting people know who he was. The real him. Well, he could count those people on one hand. The reason was very simple. He was always unsure of himself. Unsure of the kind of man he wasn’t unsure of people would really like him if they knew him. So he put on the mask. The mask of a lovable goofball who is always cracking jokes and doing stupid things to get a rise out of people.

And for the most part, it worked.

Hayden would walk backstage and people would laugh. They would talk to him and smile. He became a very well-liked person and most people would say he was a valuable asset to a company. But deep inside he was scared. Scared that these people would get to know him and not like him. Scared that they would start to think that he was something he wasn’t. Or worse scared that they would find out he did have emotions and wasn’t just a goofball.

It was even worse when it came to dating. Well, Aiden was a good-looking man by most accounts, tall, well-built, Sandy blonde hair and a killer smile with dimples. Most women would love that combined with an Australian accent and the attitude that he had. But he wasn’t as outgoing as many people believed. In fact, he was scared around most women. He didn’t want to talk to them and make them think that he wasn’t interested. Or that he was. The opposite sex terrified him and that is something very sad when we all think about it.

Hell, even I think that’s sad and I just narrating this little bitch’s story.

But here he was, about to go on a date, another date, with a woman who really was something of a dream for him. Akari was like a Japanese princess. She was the daughter of what when he would consider the Emperor of wrestling in Japan. She was sweet, kind, beautiful, smart, funny, everything that he wanted.

But she was also forbidden fruit. A woman whose father could crush Aiden and his dreams and his career in the palm of his hand within seconds. That is something that would normally terrify Aiden, it would scare him away. But the connection they had was so strong and her story so sweet. Men never approached her, they were terrified too because of her father. And because of that she was lonely. They were both lonely.

And in each other, they found someone to laugh with, talk to, and enjoy spending time with. And how could that ever be wrong? But in the green scheme of things it was. Aiden was dating someone who was the daughter of the man who signed his paycheck, the man who could decide whether or not Aiden had a career in Japan or if he would be sent back home. And if rumors were to be believed, he could also decide whether or not Aiden lived or died.

He smiled awkwardly he moved his chopsticks around and told them getting noodles wrapped around them with a few pieces of pork before popping it into his mouth. Akari gave him an approving nod. ” You're getting better at that.

Aiden offered a small shrug and shook his head. ”Aye the amount of practice I’ve had to do is borderline insane.”

And he was right. Aiden had eaten every meal for the last two weeks which chopsticks. Even food that he didn’t need to. Just so he could practice for this date. The buffoon. ”I wouldn’t be offended if you ate with a fork…” She smiled, it was a kind smile that wasn’t filled with any type of condescending nature.

Aiden cleared his throat and shook his head. ”I know. Believe me, I do. I know that I can be myself around you. I haven’t questioned it. In fact, you’re probably the only person in this country who I can be myself around. I don’t get to know many people. It just doesn’t seem right. But with you it’s different.”

She blushed and looked down, twirling her noodles with one of the chopsticks. A small smile flashed on her pink sparkle-painted lips. ”I…feel the same way…” Aiden looked up, blinking a few times and tilting his head as Akari cleared her throat. ”I always have to act a certain way, be a certain way. Around my father, my mother, my friends. They all come from a world that is suffocating me….” She paused a moment and locked eyes with Aiden. The smile grew wider. ”With you I can breathe”

They both sat in silence. Feeling awkward about the conversation. Neither of them was particularly good at opening up and it showed. Surround them blissfully talked laughing in their own conversations and their own worlds. ”Well, that was heavy…”

”im sorry…”

”Nah don’t apologise love… he smiled, shooting her a happy-go-lucky grin. ”But I do have a question….” She looked up again, Aiden took a deep breath and sat back. He was dreading it but he has to ask. He had to know. ”Where is this goin'?”

Akari tilted her head and swallowed ”What do you mean?”

Aiden took a deep breath and leaned forward. His hands class went together as he balanced on his forearm and got close keeping his voice down. ”Look, I’m not the smartest guy around but I also ain’t dumb. What kind of future do we have if your father doesn’t know? Or approve?”

She bowed her head and pushed out a heavy breath. ”I’m not sure he would ever approve….to be honest I have been trying to not think about it…” Aidens demeanor changed. He sat back and looked down, avoiding eye contact as he went deep into thought. Akari realized it and moved her hand across the table, grabbing his. ”But I will fight for it….we will tell him…just…not now…” she smiled and Aiden was assured. It was a weight off his shoulders. But the weight of his shoulders couldn’t stop the dark cloud hanging over his head. He knew where this was going and it was not going to be good. But that’s a story for another time.

Blastin for a pastin

”Shit, was I drunk when I signed up for this? Because I don’t think I remember. I usually hate tournaments. You get a whole bunch of people together and expect them to go from match to match and it always ends up as a cluster. Of course, this tournament's even more of a cluster than normal. You take a man and a woman who have never met each other, or maybe they have an' just don’t like each other, and you place them together in a team, so they have to rely on each other. shit sounds like a chaotic idea to me. Truth Be Told kinda like it…..”

Aiden Reynolds, everyone’s favorite Aussie douchebag. Standing alone which for him is always an anomaly when it comes to cutting promos. See Aiden’s one of these people who likes to bounce ideas off of others. He likes to make sure everyone else sounds serious so he can say the most out-of-whack bullshit that will ever come out of someone’s mouth.

”Yeah it’s like…super cool…”

And just like that a wild Kallie appeared!!!.  She used super cute and it was super effective. Aiden blinked a few times and shook his head

”So, last time everyone saw me I was taken on that sexy piece of man beef Ben Jordan. The cockney king. And he and I had a great old tussle. Honestly, I can’t remember much about that match except for his piercing blue eyes and chisel jewel line that would make most 1950s leading men green with envy…”

Kallie made a face and slowly looked at Aiden.

”Should I be worried?”

Aiden scoffs and dismissively eaves his hand

”Nah, ya know I don’t swing that way. I can just appreciate some of the most subtle differences in the human form compared to different men. And Ben Jordan is a man amongst men. But I’m proud of the fact that I was able to step in the ring with him and I was able to take it to him in many different ways. He’s a former world champion and being able to say that I’ve been in the ring with him and he held my own. He’s a massive step forward when it comes to this company and my stock in it. Most people don’t really know the name Aiden Reynolds aside from one or two people who might have done their research.”

“The truth is, I’m not stupid. And I know that there are a lot of people who don’t even rate me when it comes to this tournament. Many probably didn’t think I was going to do too well against Ben. And I’d like to think I proved some people wrong. Shit, you know that most people think of me as just some goofy guy who smiles and makes inappropriate jokes.”

”You don’t really do a lot to display those myths. Besides some of it is actually true Aiden.”

”Oi, whose side are you on?”

Before Kallie can answer Aiden narrows his eyes and folds his arms over his chest

”Oi yeah nah I get it. You’re trying to play mind games with me. You think it’ll be easier for you and…what’s his name….Arsehole…”

”Artie!”

”Whatever…”

Kallie rolls her eyes and Aiden smirks with a wink

”The fact remains that you think it will be easier if you put me off my game. But it’s not gonna work. This tournament has a massive prize at the end of it. The winning team gets to not only etch their names in the history of this company but they also get to receive championship matches. Do you know how cool it would be just to simply jump to the head of the line and get to face Finn? Think about it. But then again if you want, you would have to face Kayla.”

“This tournament not only allows people to have a future in this company but also honors people of the past. I’m ready to do everything I can to win it. And as it gets closer, I’ve been looking at my partner and I can honestly say that I’m glad I’ve been put with a woman like Melissa.”

“I mean if I had me choice I’d rather team with you Kallie…”

“But, that isn’t how this works but Melissa or “lady goth” Is a beast in that ring. Former internet champion, a woman who has beaten our current world bombshells champion, and someone who looks like she is ready to take Egons head off..”

[color=hotpink”Eiley”[/color]

”Bless you…”

”No…her name is Eiley..”

”Yeah nah….no one gives a shit….without Oiley she’s nothing..”

”Ollie!”

”Yeah…that’s what I said…”

Kallie throws her hands in the air, exhausted.

”Either way Melissa is going to take her head clean off. I have complete and utter confidence in my partner. Especially considering who she will be facing in the match. However, what I’m not sure of is Me getting in the ring with Mark Cross. See he is also a former ECW world champion. Admittedly he isn't as good as say, Ben Jordan but he was definitely up there. He did everything he could to make his career something. but one thing I don’t like about Mark is that he seems to pop up, once in a while mainly for the blush and the past he shoots his shot comes back joins up, and does everything he can try and clawback his former  glory”

“Ya know what they call someone or something who randomly popped up at the most inopportune times? Herpes. Mark cross is like herpes.”

”OHMYGODAIDENYOUCAN’TSAYTHAT.”

Aiden smokes and shakes his head with a small shock. He can say that and he did say that. Callie hides her face as she chuckles trying not to laugh out loud.

”Look, I can respect Marky Mark’s accomplishments. I can sit here and know that he’s a tough bloke. I can also say that I understand being a former world champion gives you more leeway than most. The blast from the past is a strange concept because it encourages people who were in the company or from outside the company to come in and try and become world champion. And if I was Mark, I would want to try it as well. getting that form glory back. It’s one of those things that most dream about. If you have been a world champion and you take any time off, you are going to want to get it back.”

“But, what if Mark wins? Especially since he’s had success like it before. What if Mark Cross becomes the number-one contender for the championship? First thing he’s gonna have trouble beating Finn I know that for a fact but what if a miracle happens and Mark Cross becomes our world champion? What then? Are we going to have a world champion that actually turns up? Or is Mark going to take his ball and go home? That is what I worry about when it comes to this tournament. I don’t know what people's motivations are or what they plan to do.

“Will this be a new dawn for Mark Cross and his career in Sin City wrestling? Or is it going to be like his NFL career and fizzle out into nothing?”

“Cause me? I’m here for the long haul. I’m here to reignite my career after taking time off to be a Dad. I never left wrestling, I’m one of those people who likes to stick around in a company. Do everything I can before I leave. Hell, I stuck around in WW for a spell even after everyone told me that that company was a trash bag that was lit on fire thrown in the dumpster, and then dumped in a sewer. I still stayed.”

“Mark though? Mate, you are a great former well champion. You are someone who many could look up to because of your athletic acumen and the fact that you were a champion here. But aside from that what have you got going for you? You turn up every year for the blast from the past and hang around for a little while like a bad smell. While the rest of us work to make this company better and to keep making sure it rises to the heights that deserves to be sit back in your comfy little retirement chair and believe yourself to be untouchable. The problem with that mark is that the rest of us get pissed off over people like you.”

“Hell, I can respect someone coming into SCW from another company. A big name who is active everywhere else trying to come in to earn our world title. But a semi-retired opportunity chasing cuck? Nah mate…”

Aiden scoffs and shakes his head.

”I have held one world championship in my career. One. Numerous other smaller titles but that SCW world title would be the biggest prize. That is something I don’t have to tell you about. Do I mark? You are one of those names that has been able to hold that championship. Admittedly it wasn’t as long as some others. Admittedly you weren’t a particularly memorable champion. But you still got to hold it.”

“Your name is forever etched up there with men like Ben Jordan, Fenris, Alex Jones, Austin James Mercer, Jack Washington. And of course Finn Whelan. Your name is up there with them and you get to say that you held that championship. And you want it so bad that you are back here again to join the same tournament that you’ve been a part of before. The only problem mark, aside from the fact that your tag team partner is about as useful as a screen door on a submarine, is that you have to get in the ring with a new kind of star.”

“I’m in my physical prime. You look at the two of us and it’s quite clear that I’m the younger, faster, stronger, better wrestler. You’re out of practice and someone who only decides to come out of retirement when it suits him. I put in the work every single day.”

“And I have something even mortified for. I want to make sure that I can hold that championship and make sure my wife is proud of me, make sure my child grows up to know that his father was a world champion. I want that I need that, and I also want to get in the ring and test myself against Finn. so you’re the first hurdle. The first block in front of me. And if you think for one second that I’m gonna let some semi-retired old man coast on his name and get another shot of the championship that he doesn’t deserve? You’ve got another thing coming. you’re not a dragon you’re an earthworm and I’m about to stomp on you.”

Willing Mistakes

The roar of the crowd is addictive.

Ask any wrestler, any real wrestler. They’ll tell you the same thing, they all have an addiction. But as the roar fades, when you walk backstage the feeling is still there. And it takes time to calm down and fade away. So what does a wrestler do when their match is over and they can hear the rest of the show? How do they wind down? Well, most talk with the boys, have a laugh, take a shower and then hit the town.

Aiden was no different.

After the match was over, a win for he and his tag partner Steve Morrison, he walked backstage, had a small talk with a few of the boys, moved past catering and went to have a shower. Feeling the hot water run over his body made him relax. His aching muscles released after being so tense. The incredible high of being out in front of everyone was starting to wind down. And as he turned the water off he took a deep breath, pushing all the adrenaline out and grabbing his towels, wiping himself down, wrapping it around him and throwing the second towel over his neck.

He stepped out, expecting to see a locker room full of guys, instead. There was silence. He blinked a few times looking around. But it was just himself and Steve. His british friend and tag team partner looking down as he sat on the edge of one of the benches. Aiden raised an eyebrow, looking from the door and back to the shower and back again. Before Aiden could say anything Steve sighed and shook his head. ”You’re lucky I love ya….ya git…” Steve stood up and moved over toward the door, reaching out and grabbing the handle. ”Ya got five minutes, that’s all I could buy…”

Aiden was confused, stepping forward as Steve stepped out. Then he saw her. Akari.

Standing in the corner, wearing a white flowing dress, a red leather jacket with three quarter sleeves, and holding a matching red leather handbag. Aidens jaw dropped, staring at her and for a moment forgetting he was basically naked. ”Aiden…I’m sorry, but this is the only way we could talk…” He snapped out of it and gave her a small nod before reaching over and grabbing his pants, sliding them on under the towel before grabbing his shirt and throwing that on to. Akari sighed heavily and moved around the lockeroom. ”I got your messages….”

Aiden smirked and shook his head. He had left a few of them, text messages, a voicemail and a hand written note. All just wanting to know if she was alright after that night. ”I just hadn’t seen ya around. I wanted to know you were alright…”

She smiled and sighed heavily. Sitting down next to Aiden on the bench in front of his locker. ”I was always going to be safe. Those men would never have hurt me…”

”Yeah, I figured they would be more concerned with hurtin me.”

She turned and spoke up, straightening her back with an air of authority in her voice. ”My fathers men wouldn’t have done that.”

Aiden sho0ok his head, his normal demeanor of being someone who would deflect through humor had melted away. And instead we had a serious version of Aiden, he leaned forward and clasped his hands together, his mind flashing back to that night, focusing on details that Akari missed. ”Akari, they weren’t men employed by your father…” He paused, her eyebrows narrowed and she tilted her head. Aiden turned and looked her in the face. His mind flashing back again, focusing on the small gold crests they word on the lapels of their suits. ”They were Yakuza.”

”What?...No….you’re wrong…you have to be…”

Aiden took in a deep breath and pushed it out. It had been widely known, an open secret if you will. That the Yakuza had their hands in almost every single legitimate business in Japan. And professional wrestling was one of those businesses. Aiden swallowed hard and shook his head. ”I don’t know which family has stakes in your fathers company. But you don’t get anything done in this country without them. Atleast nothing with this much money behind it…” He trailed off. Akari stood up and moved away from Aiden.

She was thinking, clearly going back in her mind to everytime she had seen them, every single time she had seen her4 father with them. ”Shit…”

She was angry, frustrated and upset. Aiden clasped his hands together. He jaw clenched and his heart sank. ”I’m sorry you had to find out this way darl…”

Akari looked down and tried to calm herself, reaching up to wave and wipe the tears from her eyes. ”No, it’a alright. But, I understand that you will never want to see me again. It’s too dangerous. For your career and your life.” She turned, moving toward the door. Aiden stood up, moving over and reaching out to grab her arm.

”Aye, I didn’t say that.”

”What?”

Aiden turned her toward him, a smile on his face as he shook his head, his hair all over the place from still being wet, his body causing the shirt to cling to him, standing barefoot in the lcckeroom, but a smile etched on his face nonetheless. ”Look, I ain’t the type to get scared away by anythin like tha.”  He stepped back as Akari looked up at him, confused. ”We had somethin, a connection. We got alone and you were able to see past my awkward defense mechanisms. I made ya laugh, ya made me smile. So….what the real crime would be…is not pursuin that…”

She let out a relieved sigh and her shoulders dropped, all the tension and sadness seemed to leave her all at once. And it hit Aiden like a ton of bricks. She was lonely. ”Thank you…but, now I know why I have been so distant from everyone. It was never a choice. Even friends in high school and college….I was treated like a second choice for everything…” She trailed off. Aiden swallowed and looked away before giving in to his instincts and leaning in taking her into a hug. Akari relaxed even more, pushing her body into his.

After a few moments the door opened, it was Steve. ”Oi, you two, I can’t fool these fuckers any longer, wrap it up yeah?”

Aiden gave a small nod and looked down at Akari. ”I’ll text ya, we can set up times to see each other…we can figure this out…” He smiled again, Akari nodded slowly and turned to step out, but before she did she turned back, getting on her tip toes and kissing Aiden on the cheek. She smiled warmly and slipped out the door, letting it shut behind her as Aiden sighed heavily.

What did he just get into?

Handsome Mutha Fucka

”I can’t believe I’m doing this…”

Hey kids, it’s Kayla Richards!. I’m sure you’re all wondering what the fuck she is doing in Aiden Reynolds promo. And, well. Much like the MCU everything the handler of this shit writes is inter connected. So sometimes people like Kayla will turn up. And trust me…

She’s here for a reason.

”Aiden?...where are you?”

She turned and saw him, or what we can assume is Aiden, her eyes narrow and she folds her arms over her chest.

”Alright I’m here. Kallie asked me to help and be your little guest star this week. I wasn’t going to do it but she begged and then told me that Finn royally fucked it up last week, so I wanted to ptove I was better and….why are you dressed like that?’

The camera pans around and we find Aiden, hair slicked back except for a wavey curl at the front, his jawline pushed out to look more square. Oh, and he was wearing a superman outfit, complete with fake muscles. Which…looked even more ridiculous.

”Oi yeah, ya know, reasons. Anyway I need to redeem meself. See my last match was that bloodbath thing. And it was crazy as a racoon stuck in a clowns pants chasin a quokka.” Kayla looked confused, but AIden continued. ”I was a little sore after that match. I mean JEEEZUS. Blood everywhere, weapins n a cage and all that shit. I mean look, I am no stranger to crazy brawls but that was on another level. mYa get it Kay? I mean of course ya do. You’re no stranger to hard hittin hardcore action….with all sorts of toys bein u8sed and meat slappin meat…”

”I know what you’re doing and I’m not going to dignify that with any type of reaction. And shouldn’t you be focusing on Ben Jordan? You know?...your opponent?”

We cut back to Aiden, who, this time is wearing a grey wig, some kind of armour with a wolf medallion and two plastic swords strapped to his back.

”Wait…how the fuck did you do that?”

”You’re right. I do have to focus on Benny boy Jordan…and it’s hard cause the blokie is..”

”Oh wonderful, I’m being ignored.”

”He’s so handsome ya know? I mean shit, I might get distracted by that strong jawline and those piercin eyes. The bloke is a damn stunnin piece of work. But the scary part Kay? Is he’s a bloody gun in the ring. Like holy shit. Dude is a former world champion here. A former roulette champion and a tag champion when they had mens and womens titles and lets face it, the guy is still a force now. He should be and will be, in my opinion a hall of famer. ANd he deserves the utmost respect for all he’s accomplished…”

Kayla shakes her head and rolls her eyes.

”Yeah but, what has he done lately? Aside from fail to drag Sam Marlowe to a mixed tag title victory?”

”Nah, see, that’s the thing Kay. You can get trapped thinkin that way with a bloke like Ben Jordan. See, I can get into that mindset that he’s somehow a faded star. Like all of you have with say, Mercedes Vargas on the womens side or everyone with our old mate Austin on the male side. I could sit right there, and look right into the camera we set up to record this and wax lyrical about Ben and his career. Talk about how it’s been years since he held that world title or about how he has had opportunity after opportunity only to come up short.”

“I could do that”

“In fact it wouldn’t even be incorrect. I could spin every single little thing he has failed at over the last few years n throw it back in his face. Use all that to my advantage to somehow tear benny boy down. But, that would do two things. One it would discredit him if I beat him, makin me fucking victory mean NOTHIN and two it would put me in a dangerous headspace. I’d get cocky…well, cokyer. And i’d make a mistake. And lookin at a guy like Ben Jordan, it would only take one mistake.”

“One”

“One opportunity for a bloke like Ben to capitalise on.l See Ben, I know the kind of guy you are. Technically sound, smart in that ring with a high ring IQ and athleticism to fall back on. A guy who won’t be goin into this match unprepared and a guy who ain’t stupid enough to underestimate me. So, nah Kay, I ain’t goin down that rabbit hole…ya get me?”

Kayla slowly nods and sighs, silently agreeing with AIden, it has to be silently, she’d never say it out loud, she looks away for a moment and then back at Aiden before throwing her hands in the air.

”Oh what now?”

Aiden is now dressed in a suit, a fake looking mustache glued to his face.

”August walker? Ya know, from Mission impossible? Pfft, anyway I’m lookin forward to this match Benny boy. For all the reasons listed. See, I’m a pretty easy goin guy and some people tend to believe cause I’m easy goin and I like to have a bit of a laugh that I’m not worthy of bein taken serious. But I think ya know different don’t ya? Hell, we even have a national rivalry to fall back on. The ashes. Not that I like cricket or give a shit about it but it’s close enough. And trust me on this, I am well aware of what a win over ya will do for me career.”

“And also what it’ll do for SCW. See this company has lost some major stars and names. Mac bane split, Ken Davison split, Matt Knox split, Alex is semi retired and Austin is dealin with personalo stuff and Fenris and Jack Washington ain’t around. So as far as big names, there’s Goth, Finn, you and Raven.”

“Four big names, four blokes who could be in the main event.”

“This company needs new stars and hey, why not me?”

“So I know what this match can do Ben. You haven’t lost alot in your career. Less than twenty losses in youe entire SCW career. That is fuckin nuts. So believe me, despite the jokes the gravity of the situation ain’t lost on me. You’re a fuckin beast in the ring, a man to be respected an fuckin looked up to…but…who the fuck am I right?”

Aiden stands up, taking the fak mustache off and letting out a deep breath. Kayla raises an eyebrow and sits back.

”I’ve held tag titles, I’ve been a champion in a few different companies but I have never reached those heights. The one where me name transcends companies. I was a shit kicker in jap-an, born and raised in Australia and for the last few years I’ve been tryin me best to break out from the pack. I have done some outlandish things to stand out and trust me Ben, It ain’t because I’ve been tryin to hide me shortcomings. I know I ain’t perfect.”

“But what I do know, is I can be a star. I can be a big name in SCW and help lead it into the future. I can challenge for the Internet title, the roulette title and even the worlsd title after I have earfned my way there. Hell a loss to you wouldn’t be the end of the world but what if I win?”

“What if Aiden Reynolds. An untried, untested new face in SCW beats a guy who should be in the hall of fame and could still be the world champion if he had a shot? What if I can beat a guy one on one who just showed what he can do against me and two others in a fuckin barbaric match like the blood bath brawl?”

“That is the beauty of professional wrestlin, eh Ben? We have all these questions we can answer. We have an SCW veteran who many say are past his prime, who I believe could still be asforce facin someone they don’t know about. It’s enough to get anyone interested. So this week I’m gettin into that ring and I’m gonna give ya everything I’ve got. EVERYTHING. And I hope you’ll do the same.. And win, lose or draw….beers on me after mate…””

Everything has a beginning.

Even for the life of a wrestler. Birth is a traumatic experience both for the mother and the child. A moment of muffled innocence. Unable to hear the outside world too clearly or see any kind of light. All changed in an instant as we are all brought kicking and screaming in to the world

Aiden Reynolds was no different .

The sudden rush of noise filling his ears. Talking, yelling, beeping of machines. The harsh neon lights from above burning, his eyes. And then the sound of his own voice. Realised for the first time as he screams. The first moments of life, and where we begin our story.

Pause

Wait, that is probably too far back. The real beginning of this story takes place many years later. In the country of Japan. We could go all the way back to birth, but then by the time we get to anything relevant will be here all day. And believe me none of us really have that much fucking time on our hands to go through the entirety of his backstory. And to be honest with you? Life wasn’t really that interesting until he became a professional wrestler. Do you really want to hear about the first time he lost a tooth? The first time he had to shave? His first love? Or the first time he noticed he had a hair on his nuts? Nope, I didn’t think so.

In that case, what was the starting point? His first match? The first time a promoter in Japan decided to book the cocky Australian?

No, the rest start, ironically is many years later. After he had established himself. Along with his British tag team partner. A journeyman by the name of Steve Morrison from Yorkshire England. They had been paired together and after a few years Aiden felt the two were as close as brothers. They shared a lot of many things. Professional wrestling, alternative, rock, music, fish, and chips, beer, and Japanese women. Apparently.

And on this particular night, Aidan was preparing to go out on a date. Looking at himself in the mirror, he tilted his head to the right, and then, to the left, making sure his hair was perfect. Making sure he was cleanly, shaved and ready to go.

”Oi princess, ya done pamparin ya self like a show pony?” Steve’s heavy Yorkshire accent broke through everything. Aidan getting annoyed and tilting his head towards the door before shaking it and continuing. There was no point in rising to Steve after all. But just like most Englishman, Steve was not about to let things lay where they were. And instead, he was about to poke the bear. ”Most birds don’t like it when ya spend more time in your looks than she will on heres. It’s messing with gender stereotypes innit?”

Aidan let out an angry sigh, turning and moving towards the door before pulling it open, and shaking his head, yelling back at his friend and tag team partner ”What would you know? Ya lonely limey fuck? You haven’t had a date in over a year…”

Aiden knew how to get under his friends skin. Steve popped up and walked over to the open bathroom door narrowing his eyes. He pointed his finger and shook his head looking as angry as he could. But couldn’t keep a straight face, noticing that Aiden was standing in the doorway wearing leopard print underwear.

And only leopard print underwear.

”What the fuck is wrong with ya?” Aiden laughed to himself and turned around, knowing he won the fight and feeling vindicated. He grabbed a white button up shirt, throwing it on with a pair of black slacks and a jacket. He walked out and smirked as Steve raised an eyebrow. ”Well well sunshine, don’t you look pretty and all dolled up?” Aiden slowly flipped him off before walking over to a small bench, picking up a watch and strapping it on.

”Well mate, don’t wait up eh?....”

He went to walk out, Steve spun around clearing his throat. ”Wait….” Aiden stopped, raising an eyebrow. ”Are ya sure about this? I mean really sure?”

Aiden took a deep breath, the mood shifted. It went from the normal, jovial, sarcastic mood to something more serious and in an instant, darker. Aiden swallowed and turned, folding his arms over his chest and shook his head. ”Mate, what’s the big deal? She’s an adult, I’m an adult. We want to spend time together. How is this in any way a fuckin nagative?” There was an awkward silence. Both men staring each other down. Steve stepped toward him and Aiden, as always, had the sudden urge to break the tension with a joke. Usually a dick joke…

”Have you ever heard the saying, don’t shit where you eat? Bruv, you just shat where you dine everynight.” Aiden groaned and took in a sharp breathe, clearly trying to hold back telling his friend and tag partner to fuck off. Like he wouldn’t do it anyway. ”The bosses daughter? C’mon.” Aiden just shook his head with a sigh. Steve seemed to get even more annoyed, stepping closer. ”She’s a fuckin Yakuza princess Aiden..”

Aiden ground his teeth together before finally answering, spitting venom through his words and taking it up a notch. ”So what? Legit mate, so fuckin what? She’s the bosses daughter and that makes her untouchable? She should be fuckin packed away and lonely?” He tutted throwing his hands in the air and showing frustration.

Steve groaned back and shook his head before trying to calm himself down. ”Of all the birds ya could have picked, ya pick her. The bosses daughter…..Aiden, bruv, this won’t end well. I can see you headin right toward a bloody brick wall and I can’t fuckin stop ya….but fuck it….have fun…and I hope you’re right…”

Aidan couldn’t help but shoot his friend, knowing smile. He gave Steve a small pat on the shoulder and turned walking out of the apartment. He was sure of himself thinking that he knew exactly what was going to happen. The problem with Aiden, being sure of himself is that he really is a Happy idiot. Full of optimism and happiness. He can never see the danger that in front of him. But this was just the first part of the story. The first part of a long and arduous journey.

Introductions

”Right, time to do this….” Aiden takes a deep breath, standing in his apartment, and by “his apartment” we mean the guest wing of Finn Whelans apartment. ”....Wait…something seems…off..”

Aiden looks around frantically, he moves from the main loungeroom to a bedroom, opening the door, and then closing it, repeating the process in the kitchen, the guestroom, the laundry, the bathroom. But…nothing? Aiden slowly comes back into frame. His feet shuffling as he turns and sits down on the couch.

”What’s wrong?”

Aiden sighed heavily and shook his head.

”Dickie ain’t here….without Dickie…without him I dunno if I can do this….I need him to…..translate my stupidity and keep me focused and bounce me ideas off…”

Kallie Reznik. Aidens wife and mother of his young son Dax sat across from him. Aiden sighed heavily and sadly.

”You could…like…bounce ideas off me…”

Aiden perked up and looked around.

”You…you’d be my Dickie?”

”I didn’t say tha-”

Before she could say anything else Aiden got up, grabbing a few things and then looking over and moving the camera to the side, a move Kallie noticed and her voice became a slight screech.

”You were recording the whole time?”

”….Yeah?”

It was a very matter-of-fact type answer. One that was said with all of the dry wet that the Australian had become known for.

”Aye….its not perfect but it’ll do”

The camera got moved back around. And sitting there was Kallie. Now complete with a dark emo hairstyle wig and a white bring me the horizon tank top. Looking like Gerad way of my chemical romance circa the Helena film clip.

”was this really necessary?

”Its as close as I can get ya to lookin like Dickie….admittedly a way hotter Dickie…”

”….Awwwww”

”But seriously, this is me first match in SCW and the first chance I have to make an impression…in the ring I mean, cause I think I already made an impression with Wally last week. My bad. But now it’s go time. It’s time for Aiden goddamn Reynolds to take the world by storm. And I’m gonna do it as a singles superstar. Not in a tag team like I have done for the majority of my career. See, I’m a former tag team champion in a few companies but a few years ago I stepped out of that shadow and captured me first singles world title. I’d had a few before but a world title? Nah that feelin can’t be beat.”

“So here I am, ready to mix it up with the best this company has to offer. Whether that be a bloke like Jack Washington, or Goth, or Alexander Pigeon, or even me old mate Miles “abs of steel and accent sex appeal” Kasey….I’ll face anyone…”

Kallie, aka “Dickie” gasped.

”Even Finn?”

”Yeah of course. You have to be willin to do whatever it takes. Go to war with whoever stands in ya way. And I don’t care who stands in my way. I want to make damn sure I am the first Australian champion in SCW….that matters…soz Krystal and Raven, but I’m going to be the first one of us to be in the hall of fame. And every single journey to the top starts somewhere and for me it begins with one match, one bloke, one name.”

“Justin Smith”

“Now I’m not the type of guy to come in and just talk a bunch of ahit. Well not mean shit anyway. See I have this great skill in life. I can say real douchey shit, yet still come off likeable.”

“But, I ain’t going to try and be a huge piece of shit Justin. Regardless of your abysmal record and the fact you seem to be lost in this business. I sure of who ya are or what Ilya doin. I mean shit son. Your promos are short, borin, devoid of character or any redeeming qualities. You have one win in SCW and that came off as a bloody fluke.”

Aiden pauses, looking over at Kallie. After a few moments where she doesn’t interject with anything Aiden swallows and continues.

”You are facin a guy who has everything to prove. See I went from a career highlight to a personal one. I stood back from this business. A business I love, so I could spend time raising my baby boy with the love of my life. And I wouldn’t trade that time for anything in the world. But n-“

Aidan stopped talking as he looks to his right. Kallie smiles and tears up a little, giving Aiden the heart hands. Aiden raises an eyebrow and sighs heavily being taken out of the moment. A lovely gesture for sure but not one conducive to an attitude that needed to be shown in the world of wrestling.

”But now I want to step back in the ring and claim my spot as one of the best to do this. And as much as I can be a bit of a joker, a bit weird. But, I’m also athletic, strong and I don’t give up. Unlike you. See, watching you fail and fumblefuck your way through a “career” here. One that you have lost the golden briefcase match, a match to Matty Mallow, to Rodrigo Alfonso and most recently Bill Barnhart…”

“Are ya havin a laugh mate? Really? Are you trying to get some kind of record? Now what huh? You going to ignore your losses? Bring up your one win against the bloody troll? Mate, you look like a homeless chain smoker who was featured in a bumfights DVD. Yet ya can’t do a damn thing to win. So go, have ya little conversation with Casey, get talked up and all ready. Ignore your losses and learn nothin from them. Then walk ya happy ass down to the ring and get another lesson. Cause in this life ya have one show at makin a first impression. And oh boy am I about to let the SCW faithful get a real first impression…”
