{We open inside Roxi and Keira’s condo, where Roxi sits at her drum set, expertly playing alongside “Danger Zone†by Kenny Loggins. Roxi jams and sings the song as she keeps the beat and adds her own flair to the song. She goes through the whole song, showcasing her drumming skills, and as it finishes, she plays the final salvo, stands, and crosses her drum sticks.}
Roxi – We love you Cleveland, good night!
{Keira soon walks in, shaking her head.}
Keira – You know we’re not in Cleveland, right?
Roxi – I know.
Keira – And we’re going to Saudi Arabia, right?
Roxi – I know that too.
{Roxi thinks for a moment, and her eyes light up.}
Roxi – We should take the drum set to Saudi! You think they’ve heard Kenny Loggins?
Keira – No.
Roxi – No…. they haven’t? Because we’ll take them straight into the DANGER ZONE!
Kiera – No!
Roxi – Okay, okay, Footloose.
Keira – We’renottakingthedrumset!
{Keira stomps her foot for emphasis. Roxi frowns.}
Roxi – Fine. Fine.
Keira – Thank you. Now, are you ready to defend your Internet championship?
Roxi – Always am.
Keira – Good, because… you know…
{Keira eyes her briefcase nearby.}
Roxi – You’d do that to me?
Keira – You never know.
Roxi – Keira, if this is about Amy….
Keira – She betrayed us!
Roxi – I know that. I need you to let me handle it.
Keira – She just made me so angry.
Roxi – Obviously, she wants to win this championship. And her doing that, while cheap, is somewhat understandable.
Keira – No it’s not! After all we did for her! This is how she repays us!
Roxi – Keira, calm down. It’s not going to do you any good getting worked up. You know you need to control your anger.
Keira – Grrr…
Roxi – Keira…
Keira – I’m trying…
Roxi – You at least have to promise me you’re not going to run down and interfere anymore. I’m going to try and actually talk to Amy this week.
{Keira folds her arms.}
Keira – You shouldn’t give her the time of day.
Roxi – Keira, stop that. Amy came out and apologized, but, you let your emotions get the best of you, and you ruined a good match. Plus, you hit Traci!
Keira – I was aiming for Amy. I was trying to take her head off!
Roxi – And look what happened. Please, I’m serious. Let me handle this.
{Keira walks closer to Roxi, leaning in.}
Keira – If she hurts you again, she’s a dead woman.
Roxi – She seemed sincere. I’m willing to give her a chance.
Keira – I’ll be watching.
Roxi – Keira, I need you to trust me.
Keira – I do trust you. I just don’t trust her.
Roxi – Let me handle it. Please.
{Keira backs away, throwing her hands in the air, basically giving up.}
Keira – Okay. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
{Keira walks out of the room. Roxi heads to the window and peers out, only to see a figure in white standing on the rooftop a few stories down. And with ease, the figure begins floating towards Roxi. Roxi stares, and then frowns as she recognizes this person.}
Roxi – What you do want Sapphire?
Sapphire – We need to talk.
Roxi – I don’t want to talk to you.
Sapphire – Look, you don’t like me, and I don’t like you.
Roxi – Exactly, let’s keep it that way.
{Roxi turns away from the window.}
Sapphire – I helped you find your mother, don’t forget that.
{Roxi grimaces, and turns back around.}
Roxi – I came to you one time for help.
Sapphire – 3 times by my count.
Roxi – Get to the point.
Sapphire – What do you know about Comet Girl?
Roxi – Why?
Sapphire – I heard she trained with you.
Roxi – She didn’t.
Sapphire – But she was here, right?
Roxi – She might have been, what does it matter to you?
Sapphire – Because, if you trained her, then she may have been set-back.
Roxi – Ha. Ha. Very funny.
Sapphire – You always tried to make it a competition.
{Roxi goes wide-eyed, annoyed}
Roxi – Me? You always tried to one-up me! You couldn’t handle that when I was rookie, I was just as good as someone who had your level of experience.
Sapphire – And then, you have to be saved, by me, and low and behold, I stopped a chemical weapon from reaching the U.S.
Roxi – I did. You came in at the end, Just to steal the glory, and you even lied on the report.
Sapphire – The report says nothing but the truth. I saved your life.
Roxi – I’m through arguing with you Sapphire. Go away.
Sapphire – Once again, throwing in the towel, and walking away a loser.
Roxi – Be lucky you’re going to be able to walk away from this right now, let alone fly.
{Keira walks back into the room, as she spots the agitated look on Roxi’s face.}
Keira – Who are you talking to?
Roxi – I was…
{Roxi turns back to the window, and Sapphire is gone. She turns back to Keira.}
Roxi – Never mind.
Keira – Tell me…
Roxi – I was just… talking to … *sigh* an old friend.
Keira – Oh, like Warp?
Roxi – It’s not important. It’s fine.
{Roxi is flustered and tries to walk into another room.}
Keira – Roxi, look at me….
{Roxi turns and looks at Keira.}
Keira – What is the matter? I don’t like you like this.
Roxi – Sorry. It’s just… it’s a long story.
Keira – We got time…
Roxi – *sigh* Alright…
{We flash back to Roxi undergoing training from Sapphire. Roxi is hunched over trying to catch her breath.}
Sapphire – Well, I think that’s enough for today.
Roxi – How… many more is the record?
Sapphire – You’ve already hit wave 10. You’ve done enough.
Roxi – I want…. The record.
Sapphire – I said no. There is much more we need to do, and chasing a silly record…
Roxi – Your record.
Sapphire - *Sigh* yes, my record.
Roxi – I … just figured that,… if I beat your record, under you…. That would make you proud.
{Sapphire looks at Roxi intently.}
Sapphire – No one needs to challenge my record, I don’t want you getting hurt either, trying for some record.
Roxi – Let me try….
{Sapphire looks at Roxi, a mix of annoyance and disbelief on her face. She shakes her head, and turns to the training master}
Sapphire – Release the next wave.
{Sapphire also gives a fingers across the throat gesture to the training master. Roxi drops down into the pit.}
Roxi – Ready!
{Roxi is clearly fatigued, wavering a bit on her stance, hands on her knees, sucking in air like it’s going out of style. The barrier opens, and the 9 men enter, in full riot gear, with shields, and heavy armor. They surround Roxi and almost all at once, they attack her from all sides, bashing her with the shield, and punches and kicks to put her down. Roxi is bounced around and goes down, but never long enough to stay down. She keeps scrambling to her feet, and getting knocked back down, but can’t ever regain her feet. She uses every ounce of energy to get back up and runs one of the guards into the wall, with has a barrier to indicate that person is “out.†Having eliminated one, she turns and one charges her, but she sidesteps, and pushes him into the wall. Roxi has no time to rest as the other 7 men are full prepared to continue, as they advance. Roxi is simply too tired to really fight back, but she tries anyway, really unable to do much but keep trying to move. Roxi eventually is taken down, and piled on. The training master ends the wave.}
Training Master – That’s is, the wave is over.
{The 5 or so men piled on Roxi slowly get up, and help her stand up. Sapphire comes down, none too pleased.}
Roxi – How…. Did I do?
Sapphire – I told you not to try. You could have been seriously hurt.
Training Master – New record for elimination. Lady Bedlam has 99.
{Roxi smile, but is too exhausted is really do anything else. Sapphire smiles, but it’s really fake, and really condescending.}
Sapphire – Congratulations. Now you’ll have to send a week in the medical bay, for your record. Get her out of here.
{A few of the men practically carry Roxi out of the room, to the medical bay.}
{Back to the present.}
Keira – She hates you for breaking her record?
Roxi – That was just the start. She really… never liked me actually. She couldn’t stand the fact that I wanted more than she wanted to give me. She never trusted me.
Keira – Kinda of like you did with me?
Roxi – You were different. We’re married.
Keira – You still didn’t trust me.
Roxi – You had no experience. I was still in training, but I knew what I was doing from a combat standpoint.
Keira – It’s just a thing with trainers isn’t it?
Roxi – Yeah, you training Sarah started rocky, but at least you guys made up for it.
Keira – Well, she did save my life.
Roxi – And you saved mine, and I saved Sapphires, but she just couldn’t handle the fact that I was just as good as she was. It’s been… a rivalry ever since.
Keira – It has to be, for someone to get under your skin like this.
Roxi – I’ll be fine.
Keira – Is that why… you never really get mad?
Roxi – There’s a reason a cooler head prevails Keira. For me, it’s why I don’t drink much, or get too out of hand. I have a point where if I go past it, there’s no turning back. I just hope that people don’t try and push it too far.
Keira – Oh…. And here I was, trying to push your buttons.
Roxi – Why would you want to do that?
Keira – I… just… I’ve never seen it.
Roxi – And hopefully, you never have to.
Keira – This is all coming back to Amy isn’t it?
Roxi – Yeah. Hopefully it does not come to that with her. As much as she’s made me upset, I don’t want her to get that.
Keira – Well, worry about her later, you need to focus on Jade.
Roxi – You’re right.… I should. I’ll be fine in here. I need to clear my head.
Keira – O… Okay… I’ll leave you to it, but, if you need anything, I’ll just be in the next room.
Roxi – Thank you Keira.
{Roxi hugs Keira and kisses her on the lips.}
Roxi – I love you.
{Keira walks away, leaving Roxi to herself. She leans against the drum set, and sighs, calming herself down with deep breathing. Fade out.}
I’ve had a couple of weeks to think about what Amy Marshall did. I look at the Internet championship and I wonder if that is all there is to this whole thing. I mean, Amy didn’t have to what she did. Attacking me with the lights out after a match was downright cowardly. Amy and I have been friends for a long time, and I’ve always supported and cared for her, and for her to throw this whole thing away for a championship leaves me feeling like there’s way more to this then there appears to be.
It was all to become the Internet champion, all to do what some people couldn’t? It doesn’t make sense to me. She can say that it’s all because it’s wrestling, and there are no friends in wrestling, but that’s a crock and she knows it. If Amy was harboring these feelings of anger, rage, and animosity, she channeled it in the wrong direction. I’m not the enemy, and I hope these past few weeks have helped Amy actually clear her head. I heard her apology, and Keira kind of ruined it, because she doesn’t believe her. I hope that Keira is wrong about this. Amy seemed sincere, and I hope that in Saudi Arabia, we can clear this whole thing up.
But, first and foremost I have to wrestle Jade, and defend the internet championship. I can beat her, I’ve done it before with nothing on the line, so now that something that I’ve made mean so much that my friend would turn her back and sneak attack me, I’m not going to just let Jade come in and take it from me. I respect Jade, last time we met, she gave me a heck of a match that I was able to come out on top of, and I know I’m going to get the exact same type of effort from her this time. But I’m not going to let Amy have a walk in the park trying to make history after what she did.
If Amy had been an adult about this, and just asked me, like her partner did, we wouldn’t be talking about this at all. We’d still be having a friendship, and we’d be talking about how excited we were to face each other. I am disappointed that this is what it’s come to, but that’s the way Amy chose to play this. Maybe she’s seen the error of her ways, but that match is signed, and Amy will have her chance, because I’m going to beat Jade, and when it’s over, and I’m still champion, I’m going to get some answers out of Amy about this whole thing.
But I am not taking Jade lightly, or looking past her. As the champion, I am ready to face any and all comers. Some may say that Jade doesn’t’ deserve this match, and maybe that’s partially true, but I’ve never been picky about who my challengers are. If they send anyone against me, I will face them and I will put my championship on the line, because that’s what a champion does. Jade’s been at this for a while, and while she’s not a top-tier contender right now, doesn’t make her any less of a threat. But at the same time, she’s going to go home disappointed at the end of the night. She’s not taking this championship from me, and quite frankly, neither is Amy. It’s the newest championship in SCW bombshell’s lure, and it’s my responsibility to defend it, and make it a championship worth fighting for. I’m not out to be the longest reigning champion, even though I already am, I’m out to be a great champion. And losing to Jade is not the way to do that, so rest assured, Jade is going to be another challenge that I meet and overcome. No two ways about it. Anyone who wants to take this from me, will have to beat me for it, Mercedes, Jessie, Krissy, have tried to take what I have earned, and they failed. Jade is about to added to that list, but it’s not about who I beat, it’s about the fact that I beat those who stepped up, and tried to take it from me.
I look forward to facing Jade, having a heck of a match with her. I know I’ll get that much. It’s the exciting part of being a champion, facing all comers from all sides. Jade’s a different competitor from all the others I’ve faced, and It’s going to be great to face her again, and it will be give me a little more satisfaction in beating her, retaining this championship, and finally settling this whole thing with Amy.
I hope that Amy is paying attention. I hope she knows that what I do against Jade, is when I’m not upset at her. I’m going to give Amy Marshall the benefit of the doubt. If she chooses to rebuff that, then Into the Void, I will show the world what happens when someone betrays me.
Lace ‘em up tight Jade, you’re going to be in for long night.
