The scene opens to show the inside of The Alehouse, a bar in Halifax, Nova Scotia. This does not appear to be one of the bar's busier times, as only a lone figure can be seen, sat at a circular table - that individual is Jason O'Neil, who is wearing a stingy brim leather fedora, a plain green t-shirt, and a pair of black jeans.
Jason's attention is currently drawn towards an untouched pint of Guinness, which is in front of him, on the table; leaving the pint alone - for the time being, at least - Jason looks to the camera, and begins to speak.
Jason: 'For those of you that have no idea who I am, please allow me to introduce myself: my name, is Jason O'Neil; actually, Jason isn't really my first name, but it's the name that I've come to be known by, since I entered the sport of wrestling, twelve and a half years ago, and it's also easier to pronounce than my real first name - it's certainly easier to spell than my real name. Those of you associated with Sin City Wrestling that do recognise me, probably only recognise me due to me being an acquaintance of a former SCW Heavyweight Champion. So let me enlighten you a bit, about my background, and how I came to know said former champion.'
Jason raises his right arm to his face, and rubs his beard.
Jason: 'Nowadays, amongst other things, I'm a semi-retired wrestler - and referring to myself as "semi-retired" is being kind, seeing as I've only competed in one match in the past eleven years - but back in the summer of 2001, I was a boxer-turned-aspiring-wrestler. It was during that time, as I prepared to embark upon a career in wrestling that would see me mainly compete in Northern England, that I had my first encounter with another rookie wrestler, a young man from the English Midlands, who, instead of staying in the UK, was about to relocate to the US, in the hope that he would have a better chance there of finding an opening with a promotion - that man was Simon Jones. Following that initial meeting with Simon, the two of us then had little contact with another for quite a while, what with us being based in different countries, as our respective careers went down different paths.'
Jason looks down at the pint of Guinness on the table, and reaches towards it with his right arm; he starts to raise the pint glass, but then pauses, and looks back at the camera.
Jason: 'Simon might have given up alcohol, until after his wife has given birth, but I haven't let that stop me from enjoying myself.'
Jason then completes the action of raising the pint of Guinness to his mouth, and takes a sip of the drink, before placing the glass back down on the table.
Jason: 'That's the best pint I've tasted so far this morning.'
Jason looks back to the camera.
Jason: 'By 2003, after his original stint working in the US had come to an end, Simon was back in the UK, and back living in his home city of Birmingham. In the spring of that year, following a short break from wrestling, Simon returned to the ring, when he joined the same promotion up north that I had worked for until near the end of 2002 - Ricochet Wrestling. Now, I don't expect any of you to be familiar with a UK-based promotion that closed its doors over four years ago, but like SCW, RW was also once a region of the NWA.'
Jason raises his left arm towards his head, and lifts up his hat, which he then also places on the table in front of him.
Jason: 'Just as an aside, I had thought that the name of the National Wrestling Alliance was mud around these parts, but after Nick Jones mentioned the NWA several times on Climax Control this past Sunday, I assume that it's okay for me to do likewise. Besides, whatever your opinion of the NWA, there's a few wrestlers that would not be members of the SCW roster, if not for the NWA. But anyway, back to 2003, and Ricochet Wrestling.'
Jason runs his right hand through his hair, before continuing.
Jason: 'Shortly after joining RW, Simon journeyed to Ireland, to seek me out for assistance - that he would do that, when no-one else in the wrestling community had remained in contact with me after my exit from RW, meant a lot to me. And it was that that led to a friendship between the pair of us, which has endured to this day; last year, when Simon joined ACW, with his wife unable to join him immediately in Canada, I was the one that traveled with him, to keep him company, and to help him with his preparations for each of his matches - not that Simon wouldn't be able to be successful without my help, but until he decides otherwise, I'm going to stick around, to do what I can to aid him.'
With his right hand, Jason picks up the glass of Guinness; this time he takes a longer drink, drinking roughly a quarter of a pint. Jason then places the glass back on the table, and continues.
Jason: 'So that's a bit about my past, and how Simon and I came to be friends, but I guess there's still a question left that needs to be answered: why am I the one that is currently appearing on camera, and not Simon? Well, if you saw Climax Control last Sunday, you'll be aware of the new level to which the conflict between Simon and Casey Williams has escalated; following those events, Simon is in no mood just yet to appear in front of a camera, and so I'm acting as a substitute for him - not for the first time this year - with him having entrusted me with the responsibility of aiming some comments in the direction of his forthcoming opponent, Kain. Now, I hope that you'll bear with me, as I'm more than a little rusty when it comes to this sort of thing - the last time that it was just me in front of a camera, talking about wrestling, was eleven years ago, when I was discussing a twenty-five man battle royal that I was about to participate in; for anyone that's wondering, I didn't quite manage to win the battle royal.'
Jason shrugs his shoulders.
Jason: 'Before I speak about Simon's upcoming match against Kain, I'm first going to have to return once more to what happened this past Sunday. Earlier this year, Simon stated that there are only two things - or more specifically, two sports - that can cause him to lose his temper, those being football and wrestling. But based on his behaviour this week, following on from what Casey Williams did, I think it's safe to say that there's something else that can be added to that list of Simon's: targeting his home, and his family. Never before have I seen Simon as angry as he has been these past few days - he's been angry to such an extent that at present, I think Simon could even give Rage a run for his money in that department. The expression on Simon's face has barely changed since he returned to Halifax on Monday, and whilst, for the most part, his anger has been displayed by a quiet rage, broken only by the occasional outburst - usually a vitriolic remark about what he would like to do to Casey Williams - there is no mistaking that Simon is seething.'
Jason picks up his Guinness and sips at it, before returning it to the table, as he continues.
Jason: 'If it was Simon that was here right now, in front of this camera, rather than me, I'm sure that it wouldn't be a pretty sight; gone would be the calm and collected individual that you would normally see, he who takes his time to consider anything that he says - instead, I expect that he would waste no time whatsoever, in launching into a diatribe, yelling about Casey Williams. And he would probably be speaking at such a pace, and such a volume, that much of what he had to say would be incoherent - which again, is why it's me that's here talking to you, and not Simon; of the two of us, it's highly unusual for me to be the one that is more level-headed, but with Casey Williams having pushed Simon close to his breaking point, this is one of those rare occasions.'
Jason sighs.
Jason: 'Simon is not the only one to have been inconvenienced by what Casey did, as I now find myself sharing my one bedroom apartment with a married couple, leaving me having to sleep on the sofa. Apparently, the powers that be in SCW have called an emergency meeting, to decide what action should be taken against Casey Williams; I have an idea about what could be done - and I'm sure that Simon has plenty of ideas - but it's not for me to tell the men in charge what to do, so I'll keep my thoughts on that subject to myself.'
Jason picks up the glass containing his Guinness, and again takes a lengthy drink from it; he then places it back on the table, before continuing.
Jason: 'So, on to this Sunday, and Simon's match against Kain. This will of course be the second time that Simon and Kain have been opponents, but it will be the first occasion on which they have met inside the confines of the six-sided ring - the two men were both among the four participants in the graveyard match on the Halloween edition of Climax Control, and although neither man was victorious in that contest, neither of them were the one that suffered the ignominy of being pinned, so there is no psychological edge to be had for either Simon or Kain, as far as the outcome of their previous meeting is concerned. Since that match, Simon and Kain have continued to trade barbs, because of which, it was probably only a matter of time before the two found themselves placed in a on-on-one match against each other - and now that time has come.'
Jason glances around briefly, before looking back at the camera.
Jason: 'Kain, regardless of whatever Simon's opinion of you is, personally, I have a vast amount of respect for you, both for what you have done during your wrestling career so far, and also for what you did in the past, prior to setting foot in a wrestling ring. As I mentioned earlier, I'm a boxer-turned-wrestler, having fought in unlicensed boxing, before I turned my hand to wrestling; just to clear up a common misconception, when people hear the term "unlicensed," most immediately think that means that it is illegal, but that's not the case - unlicensed boxing is not illegal, it is for fighters that are unable to obtain a license from the boxing board of control, although it is a rougher side of the sport. However, what Kain was involved in, before he entered the world of wrestling, was an even more brutal kind of fighting, which is why I respect Kain as much as I do, and is also why I think that he will be one of the most dangerous opponents that Simon has ever faced.'
Jason picks up his Guinness once more, and downs the remaining contents of the glass; he then puts the now-empty glass on the table, and continues.
Jason: 'Based on his time spent in underground fighting, I would hazard a guess that Kain feels comfortable with whatever surroundings he is forced to compete in. As for Simon, he will be much more comfortable with the setting for the match on Sunday, than he was back at the end of October, as he is most definitely better suited to competing in a ring, rather than in an environment such as a graveyard. However, having said that, I believe that Kain will have a greater chance of defeating Simon this time, than he did eight weeks ago, as when he steps through the ropes on Sunday, I highly doubt that Simon will be in the right frame of mind - following the events of last Sunday, his head is all over the place. Sure, Simon has been working as hard in training as he normally would, but the problem is that in his mind, it's not Kain that he's focusing on - Simon's thinking about what he would like to do to Casey Williams, if he was able to get his hands on him; I'm aware of how perilous that might be, heading into a match against an opponent such as Kain, and I'm concerned that it will lead to Simon's downfall - I'm more concerned about him now than I was three months ago, when he was competing on one leg.'
With his left hand, Jason picks up his hat from the table, and places it back atop his head.
Jason: 'Earlier this week, Kenny Chisholm predicted that come Sunday, Simon Jones versus Kain would be the best match of the night, and it absolutely has the potential to claim that accolade, but again, given Simon's current mindset, I have my doubts that the match will reach the heights that it could. Well, irrespective of that, one thing that I can guarantee about Climax Control this weekend, is that I'll be watching, to see exactly how Simon fares; I won't be there, in Las Vegas - like last Sunday, I'll be here, in Halifax, keeping a watchful eye on Simon's wife, Jacqueline, to make sure that she doesn't come to any harm. And I'll be hoping that somehow, someway, despite his current emotional state, Simon will be able to do just enough to get the win - time will tell.'
As Jason gets up from his seat, and picks the empty pint glass up off the table, the scene fades to black.
