Title: King of the jungle no more
Post by: Brother Grimm on April 05, 2013, 09:14:21 PM
 **translated from Spanish...

The night was a relatively quiet one. There was little traffic at this time of the night where most people had already gone home from their work places and calling it a night from their social gatherings at the local hot spots such as the night clubs and late evening restaurants found along the busier city streets for the citizens as well as the tourists.

The sound echoed off of the concrete sides of the Santiago, Chile sewer system, as the heavy boots of the city water works employee clattered against the metal rails that allowed him to descend from the street above, to the water works almost twelve feet below the street above his head. Normally the work in these sewer tunnels would be carried out either at night, such as now, or early in the morning before the traffic overhead grew heavier as the noise would become too much to bear for the average worker.

The man was named Viktor Consuelo. He was in his late forties and had been employed by the city for almost twenty-five years. He was hard working and dedicated to the job on hand, which was a reason why he had been named General Manager for his sector of the city. He was aiming for the Direct Supervisor position, but for now he would be satisfied for what he had.

He took the last step off of the ladder embedded in the concrete wall, landing with a heavy foot on the floor of the sewer's path. He paused and switched on his flashlight and looked around, having thought for a moment he had seen the movement of a shadow. one would think that after so many years on the job, he would be used to the little things that work a nerve at such a late hour job.

One would think.

He frowned, thinking himself foolish, then turned at the sound above his head and directed his flashlight upward as he watched his co-worker descend the steps from the street above to the sewer system below. His partner was a good fifteen years younger than he was, a young man named Sid Vego. He was a handsome youth whom all the ladies in the city office tended to adore, but he paid them little mind. Viktor strongly believed it was due to Sid appreciating men more than he did women, but it was not a topic that he felt it was any of his business bringing up. So long as Sid was able to perform his job duties and do them well, he cared little about what he did behind closed doors ... or in the park bushes ... public bathrooms, wherever guys like that did it.

And perform his job well, Sid certainly did.

Sid dropped down the final step and turned with his flashlight already switched on. Of course there were lights on down in the sewer system, but they were somewhat dim and notoriously unreliable to remain on or not be broken.

"You ready?" Viktor asked and Sid turned around from glancing about the sewers and nodded in the affirmative.

"Yeah." Sid said. "We splitting up tonight?"

"Yes." Viktor nodded. "This isn't a big job tonight, just simple inspections. Sooner we get it finished, the boss said we could cut out early."

"Great." Sid smiled. "Be nice to get off early for a change."

Was that some sort of gay joke? Viktor wondered, then silently shook himself of such thoughts and turned to point down past the arch of the sewer tunnel. He said, "Right. I'll go down that path and make sure everything is running right. Might take me a bit longer. You go down this tunnel and do the same. If you finish first, just wait here for me."

"Right." Sid nodded and he clasped his clipboard against his sternum and started down the tunnel. Viktor watched him go for a moment before he turned and headed down along his own way. He walked up the small steps that spanned the sewer's water and across it to the other side. Once there, he walked up the path and turned right at the arch and went along the grating that covered the open works and the waters below.

Viktor started to look over the dials on the pipes, checking the pressure gauges and taking notes of where they were at and if they ran too high, he slowly adjusted them with his tools to the correct settings.

Out in the first tunnel, the young Sid was doing the same as his boss, when he felt a stream of cold air against the back of his neck. Which was strange as there was little wind stirred down here, well below the street. He stepped in a puddle that he did not see and as a result, slipped just enough that he came crashing down heavily on his knee.

"Shit!" He gasped in shocked pain. His knee went numb from the blow on the concrete and he immediately knew that he had either dislocated it or cracked it entirely. Just my damn luck! He thought with his teeth gritted. This was going to make going up that ladder a complete bitch of a task!

Sid collected his thoughts and took a few deep breaths, trying to shield his mind from the pain into something a hint more tolerable. He then took one final deep breath and pushed himself to his feet, wincing audibly in pain. Yes, his knee was definitely damaged in some way. He wanted to fight it and try to finish the job at hand, but the first step he took, he almost fell over and knew that it was of little use.

"Viktor..." Sid called. he felt like a complete tool calling for his superior like this, but if he was hurt, then he needed to get to a hospital. He could only pray that Viktor would be understanding and go to bat for him with their supervisor. getting hurt on the job was not something glossed over lightly.

Sid looked up and called out again, "Viktor!" When his flashlight started to wink in power and then ultimately, went out. Sid looked down at it and shook his head, when the other small lights along his path dimmed into nothingness.

"Oh what the Hell...?" He muttered and with great restraint, he pushed himself off of the wall and struggled a handful of steps back to where the arch was that Viktor Consuelo had went. He passed a small alcove and did not see the white figure cloaked in darkness emerge from behind him...

Viktor heard his coworker call for him and frowned. He didn't sound right. He sounded like he was in pain, or something else was wrong. Whatever it was, he had best double back and check on the kid.

Consuelo turned around and hurried up along the wall path of the system tunnel until he reached the arch that he had passed through initially. He came up the water way and looked across the system and saw a crumpled heap of a form laying down on the other side.

"Sid! Shit!" He called out in alarm and hurried over to the steps and scrambled across the water system as quickly as he was able, without falling or hurting himself. Which is probably what happened to the rookie, Sid. He came on to the other side and hurried to the prone body and kneeled down.

"Hey kid." He nudged him gently. "Sid. You okay?"

Holding the flashlight with one hand, he used his free one to grab Sid by the shoulder and rolled him over to his back and looked down at his face.

"FUCK!" Viktor screamed, a sound that carried across the entire echoing walls of the sewer.

Sid's face was gone.

Pale, Viktor staggered back in horror when he bumped against a  solid figure and slowly turned around. Any sound he might have made was cut off by the white hand that grabbed him roughly by the throat and with a surge of strength, lifted him off the ground. Viktor dangled with his feet six inches off the ground and the chilling specter slammed him back against the wall and smiled.

"Forgive me." Brother Grimm smiled in a sinister manner that would have curdled milk. "I did not mean to act in such haste, but I need to place a call."

His hand whipped across Viktor's throat, and the blood flowed from the carotid artery and into a small, golden chalice that Grimm held in his other hand. Viktor slowly slumped down along the wall, sliding off his feet as Grimm patiently waited for the cup to be filled with the life force of the mortal man he had held in his hand.

Once complete, Grimm stood up stoically and held the cup with reverence in both hands and started to speak...

""Amate spiritum obscure. Te quaerimus. Oramus nobiscum colloquere. Apud nos circita. Et ad congregandum. Eos coram me."

He paused and waited as he watched the blood in the cup slowly begin to rise and it cast a rippling effect.

"Was this untimely interruption truly necessary? I was having a bit of fun."

The blood bubbled and frothed and Grimm smirked.

"Now, now. Is that any way for a Lady such as Yourself to be speaking? I thought you were to set a better example for a beast such as myself."

The blood stopped reacting in the frothing manner but the bubbles remained. Grimm nodded once.

Yes, I am well aware that my last encounter with the mortal realm was less than spectacular. Still, let's not throw stones my Lady. Were you not the one who was burned to ashes once by a pair of Swedish urchins?"

The frothing started all over again and Grimm exhaled sharply.

"Calm yourself. It was just a bit of dark humor. I did not mean to stir up bad memories. Still, it was amusing to think on."

The blood stopped frothing once again and the bubbles rose to a frothy foam right to the brim of the chalice.

Grimm said, "Yes, I know that I have been summoned for another encounter. I find it interesting that you've allowed it to be such a situation as it is. I have never been much of a team player, if you will. First the dark goddess, and now this? Why now? Why with this ... Goth?"

Grimm looked into the contents of the chalice and a smile crossed his black lips. He nodded only once.

"Yes." He said. "That does explain a great deal. I have not heard of such a man before, if he even is one. These times have indeed changed. Necra, now this... being. I admit that I am intrigued."

He laid his hand against the stone wall, palm against the concrete, and looked away from the chalice as the crimson stream rose over it and trickled out and to the floor at his feet. He glanced aside.

"Yes." He sighed. "Things will be different this time around. This ... opposition looks weak by comparison. You have nothing to fear."

He looked back down into the cup and shook his head.

"No. There is no need for you to move your appearance forward. I will handle this."

The crimson blood stopped over flowing from the cup and the frothing and bubbles vanished from being. Grimm looked down at the two bodies at his feet and shook his head in disgust.

"I hate wasting such a good meal!" And he stepped over the body of Viktor Consuelo and simply left...

"I admit that I have missed out on a great deal during my untimely ... incarceration, but when last I heard, the mighty Lion was rumored to be the King of the Jungle. The predator that all other beasts and creatures that dwelled in the jungle feared most. None wished to cross the path of this mighty Lord and predator and become something for it to dine on as an evening meal."

"How unfortunate then that the time has come for the fabled hunters to become the unfortunate hunted. Oh Trevor Irons and Max Burke, the two Young Lions who have impressed this sad little world oh so recently, only to discover there is now a new predator within their midst. Would the lions have such a reputation, if the creatures of darkness dwelled within their own so-called kingdoms? No. If you believe it to be so, then you fool only yourselves."

"The animals that would be King, now find themselves against a far superior species of beast. One that made an eternal life of hunting and destruction. A creature of darkness incarnate that instilled fear in the most savage of beasts and man across this barren wasteland you prefer to call your home."

"That is what the Young Lions have found themselves placed up against in this encounter in the battle grounds of the SCW's world. Your territory is no more. Your dreams are about to become the cruel nightmare of which you will never awaken from."

Trevor Irons and Max Burke. Your time within this Grimm tale has come to an end."</size>
