Overthinking it
Kasey Home
Las Vegas, Nevada

Alexandra sat curled into the corner of the couch, one leg tucked beneath her as she stared blankly at the television. Some reality show was playing in the background, people arguing over something meaningless, but she couldn't have told anyone what was happening. Her mind was somewhere else entirely. Once again, the silence cut through the bullshit. She exhaled slowly and rubbed her forehead. Brittany Williams at Climax Control, the Go Home Show, Champion versus Champion. Summer XXXTreme XIV loomed on the horizon, Cassie Wolfe versus Kat Jones versus Alexandra Calaway, for the Bombshell Internet Championship. The thought alone made her chest tighten. Cassie was relentless. Kat was dangerous. And both of them would be coming into that match wanting the accurate comparable thing she wanted. Victory, recognition, momentum. There would be no room for hesitation. No room for weakness. No room to fuck up like she had been the last few times she was in the ring.

"Angel." LJ’s voice cut through her thoughts immediately.

Alexandra blinked, lifting her head to look at him. LJ Kasey stood in the doorway connecting the kitchen to the living room. He'd apparently been talking to her because his eyebrows were raised in amusement.

"You know I've said your name three times, right?"

A small flush crept into her cheeks. "Sorry."

His expression softened instantly. "Still thinking?"

The answer was beyond obvious. Unfortunately, he always knew when she was overthinking.

She offered LJ a weak smile. "A little."

LJ laughed. "A little?"

He walked over and dropped onto the couch beside her. "Love, you look like you're trying to solve world hunger."

That earned the tiniest laugh from her, a dinky one, but real. "Feels like it."

"Hm." He studied her face for a moment.

Alexandra hated that look sometimes. Not because it was judgmental. Because it wasn't , LJ simply knew her too well. Knew when she was spiraling, when she was overthinking, when it felt like she was carrying the smooth world on her shoulders.

"You wanna tell me what's going on in that head?" he asked quietly.

Alexandra looked away, the light from the television flickered against the wall, a movie long since forgotten. She knew she didn't have to answer. But she also knew he'd sit there patiently until she did. And eventually she gave in with a sigh.

"Brittany." Alexandra looked at him.

LJ nodded. "Okay."

"And Summer XXXTreme." The thought lingered in the air as soon as it left her mouth.

Another nod.

"Cassie and Kat." This gained another look from her. Normally he had more to say.

"Mm-hmm." His focus was on hers.

She groaned and leaned back. "See? It sounds ridiculous when I say it out loud."

"It doesn't.” He spoke finally, still only small words.

"It does." She looked at him with another sigh.

"Nope." LJ gave her that look.

Alexandra rolled her eyes, causing LJ to grin.

"You want me to lie and tell you those aren't tough matches?" LJ spoke softly now.

"No." Was her quick reply.

"Good. Because I'd be terrible at it." He gave her a small laugh, coupled with that smile.

That pulled another reluctant smile from her. He shifted slightly, turning toward her.

"What's really bothering you?" LJ asked.

The question landed harder than she expected. Because the answer wasn't Brittany, Cassie, or even Kat. Not entirely anyways.

Her voice came out softer. "What if I screw it up?"

LJ didn't answer immediately. That was another thing she appreciated about him. He listened. Like actually listening. Not just nodding his head and pretending to listen.

"I know that sounds stupid," Alexandra rolled her eyes.

"It doesn't." LJ shook his head.

"What if everybody's expecting me to walk in there and dominate and I don't?" She gave him a worried look.

Silence. Alexandra stared at her hands.

"What if Brittany catches me slipping? What if Summer XXXTreme doesn't go the way I want? What if I let people down?"

The words came faster now.

"What if I let myself down?"

There it was. The real fear. The one she'd been carrying around for days. The room stayed quiet. Then she felt LJ's hand settle over hers. Warm, steady and grounding, bringing her back down to earth.

"Angel." He spoke softly, accent thicker than normal.

She looked at him, his eyes were calm and certain. The exact opposite of how she felt. Her calm in the storm of her mind.

"You know what I think?" LJ asked.

"What?" Alexandra replied.

"I think you're trying to fight matches that haven't happened yet." LJ took a different approach.

Alexandra frowned and he continued.

"You're worried about Brittany." He nodded.

"Because she's good, someone new I haven’t faced." Alexandra focused on him.

"She is." LJ almost laughed.

"Thank you for agreeing with me." Alexandra quirked her eyebrows.

He laughed. "Do you want honesty or comfort?"

"Both." Alexandra replied quickly.

"That's expensive." LJ laughed.

She snorted despite herself. LJ squeezed her hand.

"Brittany is good." LJ stated.

"Right." She replied.

"Cassie is good." Again, LJ made a point, this one pulling a groan from Alexandra. "Kat is good." He continued on.

"Please stop." Alexandra held her hand up and he grinned.

"But so are you." LJ spoke and her eyes met his again.

Simple words. Yet somehow they hit harder than all the others.

"You keep acting like you're the only person walking into those matches with something to prove." LJ said softly.

Alexandra blinked. "I never thought of it like that."

"I know." LJ said as he leaned back.

"They have to deal with you too, Love.” LJ licked his lips.

The statement hung in the air. Because it was true. Brittany would have to prepare for Alexandra. Cassie would. Kat would. The pressure wasn't hers alone.

"You know what else?" LJ asked.

"What?" She looked at him.

"You've survived worse days."

A long silence followed. Because he wasn't wrong. There had been injuries, losses, failures, and heartbreak. Moments she thought would destroy her. Moments that should have destroyed her. Yet she was still here. Yet she was resilient.

LJ smiled softly. "And in eighteen days..."

Alexandra immediately groaned. "Oh no."

"In eighteen days," he repeated, "I will marry you."

She buried her face in her hands. "There it is."

"There it is." His grin widened. "You knew I was gonna bring it up."

"Of course you were, darling.” Alexandra spoke from behind her hands.

"Because it's important, Angel." He put his hands on her wrists.

Alexandra peeked at him through her fingers. The smile on his face was impossible to resist. The kind of smile that always made her feel safe. Even on the darkest days. Especially on the darkest days.

LJ reached up and gently pulled her hands away. "Love."

She looked at him.

"You don't have to carry everything by yourself."

The words were quiet and simple, but they settled somewhere deep inside her. Because sometimes she forgot. Forgot that she wasn't alone. Forgot that there was someone standing beside her. Someone who believed in her even when she struggled to believe in herself.

LJ leaned forward and pressed a kiss against her forehead. "You'll handle Brittany."

Alexandra smiled faintly. "You don't know that."

"I do." He smiled at her.

"You can't know that." She shook her head.

"I absolutely can." He laughed.

She laughed. "How?"

"Because you're stubborn." LJ Kasey called her stubborn.

Alexandra stared at him and he shrugged.

"It's one of my favorite things about you." He nudged her playfully.

Another genuine laugh escaped her. The knot in her chest had started to loosen. Not completely, but enough to breathe. Enough to remember that fear wasn't failure. It was just fear. And it didn't get the final say. LJ wrapped an arm around her shoulders and pulled her against him. For the first time all evening, Alexandra let herself relax. The matches would come. Brittany would come. Summer XXXTreme XIV would come. Cassie Wolfe and Kat Jones would come. She'd face all of it when the time arrived. But as for tonight? Tonight she allowed herself to sit beside the man she would marry on June 30th and enjoy the quiet. For once, the future could wait. And wrapped in LJ's arms, it finally did.

Gravity
Las Vegas Strip
Las Vegas, Nevada

A camera comes up on Alexandra who’s walking down the strip in Las Vegas, neon lights dancing over her skin, light reflecting in her eyes and she smiles as she begins to speak.

“I’m not going to sit here and mince words, I’m not going to waste my time or yours. Brittany Williams, you can come out there to the ring, look me in the eyes, stand toe to toe with me as a champion, as the woman you claim to be. Rather I hope you would come out there and stand toe to toe with someone who held that same title you now hold with dignity and respect. I do hope you understand the gravity of this match.”

She paused for a moment, walking past the fountains of the Bellagio Hotel. She took a moment to soak in everything going on around her, eyes falling closed. A beat passes and she opens them again, this time focusing directly on the camera.

“You and I aren’t that different, not when you think about it. You have been facing challenges, your biggest one to date, me. The former Bombshell Roulette Champion with nothing left to lose. That thought can be the biggest motivator for both of us. You see, I’ve been resting and sailing through to Summer XXXtreme. I need to remind my competitors that I’m willing to do whatever must be done to take them down. To hear Justin Decent say ‘And STILL Bombshell Internet Champion, Alexandra Calaway.’ While they both look up at me from the mat, wondering what happened.”

Another moment passes and she continues to walk down the strip, fans waving at her and snapping pictures with her.

“Sunday, bring your very best, everyone knows I’ll do the very same. If you should beat me, I’ll get right back up and press on to Summer XXXtreme with my head held high, knowing I am still standing, still fighting. But I don’t plan on losing. I won’t let you tarnish this moment for me. I’m riding high. I’m the Sin City Wrestling Bombshell Internet Champion, I’m marrying LJ Kasey on June 30th, right after Summer XXXtreme. I plan on going into my wedding STILL the Bombshell Internet Champion.”

Another pause in her path down the strip and she smiles at the camera looking up at a casino.

“Tell me Brittany, do you feel lucky? Do you feel like this is your moment? When you close your eyes at night, do you rest easy, knowing you are the Bombshell Roulette Champion? Maybe you should look back at the photos of my reign as the champion, my blood is literally all over that championship. Victoria and I bled each other until we both passed out for that pretty you now hold. Are you willing to do the same for it? If so, let’s test that on Sunday. Let’s see if you are ready for Ultimate X at Summer XXXtreme, consider this your warm up. Those girls are going to eat you alive.”

She gave a small laugh, before licking her lips once more and finishing up.

“See you Sunday darling, for now..”  LJ walks into the scene and kisses her cheek.  “I have a better way to spend my time. Preparing for my wedding with my amazing fiance.”

The two fade into the night, the camera cutting to black on them dancing on the sidewalk and sharing a kiss.

Women in Sports
I Heart Radio Segment
Las Vegas, Nevada

Sitting down for a segment on a I Heart Radio show wasn’t something Alexandra had expected to happen.

Sarah Spain: Welcome back to Good Game. My guest today is one of the biggest stars in professional wrestling, Alexandra Calaway. Alexandra, thanks for joining us. First off, Congratulations on your upcoming Wedding!

Alexandra Calaway: Thanks for having me. I've been a fan of your work forever, so this is really cool. Thank you so much, LJ and I are really looking forward to it.

Sarah Spain: Well, we're glad you're here. I wanted to start with women's sports as a whole because it feels like we're in this incredible moment. Ratings are up, attendance is up, investment is up. What's it been like watching that growth from your perspective?

Alexandra: It's been amazing. I think we're finally seeing people realize what a lot of us have known for years, that women's sports are entertaining, competitive, and worth investing in. Whether it's basketball, soccer, hockey, wrestling, whatever it is, fans are showing up and proving there's an audience.

Sarah Spain: Speaking of soccer, we're inching closer to another World Cup cycle. As a soccer fan, where are you at with the U.S. teams right now?

Alexandra: I mean, look, I know this is going to sound harsh, but I feel like most Americans don't really care about the men's national team because the women have set the standard for so long.

Sarah Spain: You're definitely not the first person who's said that.

Alexandra: The women's team has won World Cups. They've won Olympic gold medals. They've produced iconic athletes and moments that crossed over into mainstream culture. When people think of American soccer success, they think of the women. That's not a knock on the men's team; it's just reality. The women built the brand.

Sarah Spain: Fair point. And speaking of leagues that are growing, the PWHL continues to expand. We've already seen how quickly fans have embraced it.

Alexandra: I absolutely love what they're doing. Every time they announce another expansion team, I get excited.

Sarah Spain: Any city you're keeping an eye on?

Alexandra: Dallas. One hundred percent Dallas.

Sarah Spain: The hometown loyalty.

Alexandra: Absolutely. I was raised there, so I'd lose my mind if Dallas got a PWHL team. I know it might not happen for a couple more years, and there are probably cities ahead in line, but hockey in Texas has grown so much. The Stars have a great fanbase, youth hockey is bigger than people realize, and I think Dallas would absolutely support a women's hockey team.

Sarah Spain: I can already picture you on opening night.

Alexandra: Oh, I'd be there immediately. No question, husband in tow.

Sarah Spain: Before I let you go, I have to ask about wrestling. The women's side of the industry has evolved so much over the last decade. What stands out to you the most?

Alexandra: The opportunities. That's the biggest thing. When I was a teenager, I loved wrestling, but a lot of what I dreamed about didn't really exist for women at the highest level. There were incredible performers before my generation, but the platform wasn't always there.

Sarah Spain: And now?

Alexandra: Now women are headlining major events, carrying storylines, getting time to tell meaningful stories in the ring. As someone who's fortunate enough to be one of the featured stars, I'm getting to experience a lot of the things I imagined when I was sitting in my room as a teenager watching wrestling. That's a pretty surreal feeling.

Sarah Spain: Is there ever a moment where you stop and think, "This is what I wanted when I was fourteen?"

Alexandra: All the time. There are moments where I'll walk through the curtain, hear the crowd, look around, and think, "The younger version of me would never believe this." That's special. And it's even more special knowing that there are young girls watching now who can see possibilities that weren't as visible when I was growing up.

Sarah Spain: That's a perfect note to end on. Alexandra, thanks so much for joining us. And Good luck at Sin City Climax Control.

Alexandra: Thanks for having me. This was fun.

Sarah Spain: That's Alexandra Calaway. More Good Game after the break.

The show ended and Alexandra and Sarah spoke for a while before she left to head out for the show, her championship slung over her shoulder.
