Title: Champion teams
Post by: Austin James Mercer on May 22, 2020, 09:02:20 AM

All I see is, shattered pieces
I can't keep it, hidden like a secret
I can't look away
From all this pain, in the world, we've made
Every day you need, a bulletproof vest
To save yourself, from what you could never guess
Am I safe today?
When I step outside, in the wars we wage

Prologue: Second Chances

Do you know how hard it is to earn a shot at a championship?. To define a championship and it’s return?. Do you know the pressure you are under when that carrot is dangling in front of you? To have a chance at that type of accolade is special, to be able to have a group of people who run and own a company give you that faith, that trust, more than once?.

It’s mind-blowing.

When I was a kid I would dream about my dad being a superhero or a spy or an action movie star, the usual stupid bullshit. Then I met him and I was a little disappointed. He was a businessman, he wore a suit, he closed business deals, he managed the assets of Athos Corp. But then, well then I learned about his youth and my family lineage.

I learned about our real family business.

The calling my father ignored.

The one that I couldn’t turn away from.

And in the last few years as my body matured and my mind became stronger I have risen to be feared, respected and in some cases admired.

I have been given a second chance, a shot at retribution. A shot at ending something special and legendary.

And I will not, WILL NOT, waste it.

A new arrival
New York Presbyterian Hospital
Last Year

It had all started in a flash. Austin had flown back from Europe two days before. Everything was going as planned. Or as planned as these things could be. The bag had been sitting by the door, Markus was to go to Elena, the emergency message had been recorded for the answering machine. And Austin had been laying in bed, drifting off to sleep with Lisa in his arms, his hand had come to rest on her stomach, he could feel their daughter move, he could feel her twitch. It made him smile, it made him remember why he did everything. Why he worked so hard. But it also made him miss his father, his mother, the rest of his family.

But then hell seemed to be unleashed. They had gone through it all before. With the birth of Austin and Lisa’s son. They had rushed around, they had been prepared then too but learned so much. Austin had planned the fastest route to the hospital, he had fresh towels in the car, the car keys in a visible place with the spare pair hanging up in the kitchen right above the hospital bag sitting on a chair by the door.

But at 1:15 am on a Monday none of that mattered.

Lisa had woken Austin up, shaking her large husband awake with a panic. Austin opened his eyes as Lisa was already up and ready to go. Then it was a blur, the bag, the keys, Markus awake and ready to do to Elena’s. It was all coming together but more stressful than either thought. The contractions had started, they were much faster than last time. The 18 hours labor Lisa had with Markus was a marathon, this was a sprint. They had got to Elena’s and she took Markus, but one look at Lisa and Elena yelled at Austin to power to the hospital.

They arrived and from there it was even more intense. Lisa started to scream and be in pain, her hand wrapped around a few of Austin's fingers squeezing hard. Doctors and nurses moved around and before they knew it, four hours later, Mia Elena Mercer was born. The storm had moved on, nurses and doctors checked and made sure everything was ok. And now, in the real quiet time, Lisa was laying in the bed, Holding the tiny newborn girl in her arms, Austin sat in a chair next to the bed beaming with a smile ear to ear.

“I can hardly wait for Markus to meet her. He’ll have a baby sister to take care of” Austin smiled weekly and gave a small nod. He knew what it was like to have a sister. His was older, but he still had to take care of her…..

6 Years Ago-Briarcliff Mental Hospital

“I understand where you are coming from Mister Mercer but you need to understand something…” The doctor trailed off, a much younger Austin sat across the table, his hands clasped together as there was an awkwardness in the air. It was thick and filled with tension as he pushed to his feet grabbing a file, he put it on the table and slid it towards Austin who cocked an eyebrow.“That is Amy’s file, your sister is…..her mind is fractured.” Austin reached forward opening the file, he slowly took each picture and shook his head.

They started a decade ago, a 13 year old Amy looking normal but dejected, then every year getting worse, her appearance changing, her weight dropping, all the way to the now 23-year-old, looking sunken and gaunt. Like a zombie. Austin sighed as his teeth ground together, he threw the pictures down and stood up towering over the doctor, an intimidation tactic that he knew wouldn’t work. But it made him feel better anyway. Even at 22, Austin was huge. ”You’re worried, but doc, Amy needs out, she needs to be with family, she needs to be in an environment where she can grow and she can be the women she was always going to be. I can give her that environment.”

Austin raised his eyebrows, his eyes were full of feeling and light. The doctor let out a deep sigh and reached into his desk pulling out some papers and a pen, he looked up at Austin then back down at them flipping to the final page. ”I’m doing this because over the last six weeks while you have been visiting Amy regularly she has regained her communication skills.” He signed on the bottom of the last page, initialing where he needed before sliding the papers to Austin. He read them slowly realizing they were discharging instructions. Austin sighed happily and signed the bottom adding the date.

”Thank you” He smiled warmly as the doctor gave him a nod leading Austin out of the offices and back through to the wards. The two men moving fast but Austin not wanting to seem overly eager as they went down the stairs and out to the courtyard where some of the patients were spending their day. ”Mister Mercer….Austin….I….just be careful. Watch her. Don’t give her all your trust right away. She might have an episode and if she does please don’t hesitate to call us. But, at the same time I wish you luck, I hope she continues her improvement.” He held his hand out and Austin took it shaking it, as the doctor turned and moved away Austin smiled looking over at his sister who was sitting on a bench with a sketch pad.

Amy had improved. Her long brown hair was now brushed and smooth, her face was a little fuller from eating, her body too had become stronger as she hummed a familiar tune. Austin came up behind her and set the papers down before Amy, she looked up smiling at her younger brother before looking at the papers reading through them. ”I’m out?” She took a sharp inhaling breath before popping up from the bench setting her sketchpad down jumping and wrapping her arms around Austin squeezing him tight. ”I’m going to take you home Amy…and I promise...I promise you will have a better life”

Match of Champions

He smiled and tilted his head to the right, his large arms folding over his chest. Austin cleared his throat and his deep voice boomed.

”Teddy Warren tried, Teddy Warren failed. And I am still the Sin City Wrestling Internet champion. A title that Teddy Warren seemed to think I should take as a demotion. But, I think I have proved that this championship means more than many believe, since I have taken it to heights it hadn’t seen since the days of Despayre. When that crazy kid held it and made it a prize for many to try and take away. But, I told Teddy, I told him if he wanted to take this title off of me he would have to bring his best. And he didn’t. He failed. And now this week I step into the ring with three fellow SCW champions.”

“One as my partner, one is the wife of the man I beat ands the final one is a guy who I see alot of myself in…”

“But, I will say I have a great partner. I mean I have the Sin City Wrestling Bombshells champion Andrea Hernandez in my corner ready to team up. I have to say I definitely won that side of it. See Andrea is someone who has risen through the divisions ranks and became the champion in a fast time. Almost as fast as how Alicia did it, almost as fast as I became the SCW world heavyweight champion. It’s impressive Andrea and I’m sure you are eager, like most world champions are, to continue your reign and show the world you belong in the same conversation as Roxi, Alicia and others…”

“For what it’s worth Andrea...I think you are a great champion, I think you earned that title and I think you will continue to do well...until Alicia gets her hands on you, but hey, she’s my stab;lemate, don’t take it personally...champ…”

Austin smirked and paced back and forth with a deep sigh trying not to be too arrogant or angry.

”And of course, Andrea will be getting in the ring with my championship other half. The womens internet champion Kate Steele. And also, the...lovely...wife of Teddy Steele-Warren...Warren-Steele. Or whatever. Either way, Kate you’re standing on the other side of the ring and you will be going toe to toe with Andrea. And as good as you are and have tried to be, I just don’t see you being a match for her. See Andrea is a star, shining bright in the world, feeding off of challenge and competition.”

“You, Kate, are an average woman who has stumbled into some incredible moments through luck. Just look at your internet title reign. I came out and hit the ground running, I defended the title as soon as I could and took the bull by the balls with an open challenge. You held onto the title, yawned and waited till someone gave you a little poke in the ribs to remind you that you even won it…”

“In fact it’s ironic that Teddy thought I should take the title as a demotion since apparently thats what you did…”

“And I get it Kate, see I was the SCW world champion, I walked into this place as “that guy from Honor and WWH”. I walked in here having success in other places but never proving myself here. Until that is. I did.”

“I stepped up, I became a world champion and defended that title with everything I had. And then, I lost it and every attempt I made to get it back failed. So, I dusted myself off, I went back to the drawing board and I have stayed as one of the best wrestlers in the world ready to take the internet title to a place it needs to be and you Kate, have never had the same drive. You were a champion in other places, you proved yourself here in the main event and as the Roulette champion, but you were never able to win “the big one” and when you shocked the world and became the internet champion...instead of taking the title and ramming it down peoples throats to prove a point...you became a withering flower….”

“You failed and showed why you will never be spoken in the same breath as the best of the best…”

His voice was powerful and spit venom and fire before taking a deep breath and calming down.

”Moving past the women now it’s time to cover the man I will actually be stepping into the ring with. The current sin city wrestling Roulette champion, the man who was able to unseat Griffin Hawkins from holding that championship that he seemed to have an iron grip on, Jack Russow”

“And I think you know what I’m about to say here Jack. I saw you in PWS and I saw just how good you were and I was ecstatic when you signed a contract to come here. And in a very short amount of time you have proved yourself to be an excellent professional Ressler who puts his body on the line and knows just what to do in that ring to succeed. No one beats Griffin Hawkins the way you did and doesn’t become a star. And you and I? We are people who understand each other better than most. I came from a family that was famous up and down the eastern seaboard for this business. I come from a line of professional wrestlers,  people who considered this business to be theres, people who have so much of their DNA in canvases all over the United States and the rest of the world that you could probably clone us if you rubbed up against it.“

“I get you Jack I know what it’s like to have a father who was part of this business and family members who seemed to be the ones who we were compared with. But you, like me have moved from that shadow...we have become something. And It will be alot of fun facing you at Climax Control kid. Let’s tear the house down…”
