Book 1: Kill ‘em
Chapter 1: Ain’t my first dance
At present, the two were just hanging out in their hotel room as they had no other plans currently than to spend time in each other's company. Well, Maxim was supposed to go to the gym but he couldn't bring himself to at the moment, enjoying being with Kya too much for that. Kya wore a smile on her face but it dropped slightly as she tilted her head, staring at Maxim.
Kya: You know, you never did tell me why you hid this from me.
Maxim: What, me joining the company? It was more fun not to...
She punctuated the sentence with a shrug of his shoulders as Kya again, lightly tilted her head to one side.
Kya: Well, I do like surprises... this happens to be a great one. But still, I wish you had told me. I knew Lucy was up to something... I didn't expect it to be her getting you a job here...
Maxim: I knew you'd like it. It's awesome to be with this company since I've heard so many good things about everyone here. And it's about time I actually had a steady job, let's be honest.
Kya nodded.
Maxim: Even though this is only my second match, I am already kinda feeling the pressure now after hearin' who I'm facing this week. Talk about being thrown straight into the deep end. I'm not usually an apprehensive individual but this is intimidating to say the least.
Kya: Yeah. I'm not even going to lie here; this Ty guy talks a big game.
Maxim: You think?
He questioned as Kya just nodded her head.
Maxim: I've hardly proven myself yet in comparison to everyone else on the roster so I can't imagine this will go too well - I mean, I doubt anybody even remembers my name. Or if they saw me backstage in the locker rooms, they'd be like - who the hell is this guy?
Kya: Hey, don't worry about it. Sure, Ty is a legend and one of the biggest names on the roster but he can't win forever, you know? Now is the time for the new generation to take over - and you're one of 'em!
Maxim: Well, I do think I have a shot - I'm not saying I don't...
Maxim shrugged his shoulders.
Maxim: I have already made a huge impact and this week might be the time to do it again. Can ya imagine? Me? Defeating a legend?
Silence consumed the scene again momentarily - only for it to be broken by Kya once again.
Kya: Did you ever think you were gonna get to this point?
Maxim: Are you trying to say you didn't think I was?
Kya: Shut up, you know what I mean.
Maxim: Yeah... honestly, I didn't. I know I'm nowhere near to where most are and this is only my second match over all so I'm not feeling particularly on top of the world.. yet. I'm so close to being to where I wanna be and this match could definitely define my career even more.
Kya: Well you know I believe in you. It's gonna be tough but what do you expect? SCW has more currently active legends than any other company out there. Ty is one of 'em and I wouldn't be surprised if you face more in the future.
She said as she sat up. After a light sigh, she turned back to Maxim and placed her hand on his arm.
Kya: I guess it's time you hit the gym - I don't think we can't just sit here all say achieving nothing. Sorry I've been keeping you...
Maxim: No problem. Life can't all be about business, can it? Plus, since this week has been all about business, it's about time I took a break. But now, I've gotta take a break from the break...
Kya: Exactly. I'd join you with training buuuut... I'd rather have a lazy day personally.
Maxim: Fair enough.
He nodded as he finally sat up as well.
Kya: Though having said that, I do have to go and babysit my neice tonight - again. Ugh. Not that I'm complaining, I'm just tired and that means I probably can't hang out with you. But eh, I'm sure I'll catch you before Climax Control itself but if not for some reason - good luck!
Maxim: Do I really need it?
Kya: Of course not. Nothin' wrong with me saying it though, right?
Maxim: Fair enough... I guess it definitely can't hurt. And I promise, I won't let you down.
He leaned forward and planted a quick kiss on her lips before he rose to his feet, grabbing his gym bag and disappearing out of the hotel room. He was aware of the importance of preparing for a huge match like this although it was true he wasn't even used to it - given this was his first real shot in his first real company. So he didn't quite have the experience edge in this match but he liked to think he had other qualities that were going to get him through it.

Following his work out - an imperative work out, at that - Maxim was understandably tired but at the same time, he knew there was plenty more to do. He was clearly worn out right now and frankly, he looked a bit of a mess but he didn't care as he sat in front of the camera in the locker room.
Kameron: I dunno what to say today, to be honest. My mind hurts from attempting to fathom where exactly I am. I've been trying to get far in this business for as long as I can remember. I've spent years trying to make a name for myself and actually get somewhere. Now suddenly... I'm here. I've signed with one of the biggest companies around and I've made the biggest impact a guy can make. I became the Hardcore Champion in my first match and to me, that's a big deal. I can't wait to actually prove this week that I'm not a fluke. I actually happen to be an impressive, passionate and extraordinary athlete. The reason I haven't succeeded in getting far prior to now isn't because I'm not a great wrestler - I'm just an unlucky guy is all. I'm not formulating excuses at this point, that is actually a fact.
He sat forward and looked back up at the camera.
Maxim: Initially, it doesn't seem as though there's much on the line but of course, there is. I've gotta focus this week on taking down a legend. That's another huge deal here and I haven't got the experience for something like this. But as per usual, I'm gonna handle the pressure like a pro.
He paused.
Maxim: So it's true that I'm the guy around here with the most to prove. I walk into the company, beat a complete loser for a championship in my debut and didn't show a whole lotta skill in doing so. One match isn't a strong enough sample for you all to be judging me on. So what do I have to do to really get you all on side? I have to go ahead and defeat a legend. Now THAT is a big deal. If of course, I've got the balls to actually go through with it and do what very few are really able to do. I'll definitely give this my best shot and give Ty the fight of his life - but whether or not I do really have what it takes remains to be seen.
Maxim shrugged.
Maxim: And while it has all got off to a great start, I am aware that it could go downhill quickly. I know at absolutely any point in my life, I could suddenly lose everything I've been working towards all these years so that's why I can sit around and worry about that, I have to fight without concern and just keep on gettin' through the day, doing what I'm doing. But that doesn't mean that I'm not gonna try my best - that's something I've learned over the years - no matter how tough things get, then I've gotta keep going at any cost. My success here depends on plenty of factors - including who my opponents are, how I'm feeling on the day, the abilities I've got - and more. And it's easy enough for me to state that I've done my homework and I know who I'm facing but at the same time, I can't really know any of that until I step into the ring with you, can I Ty? I can research your techniques and what has cost you matches in the past but I can only get far with real experience.
He paused and just stared at the ground for a few seconds.
Maxim: I do know what Ty is capable of. I know I might not look it, but I'm a strangely smart guy. I'm clever so I do my homework well in advance. I know what I'm up against and I'm up against one of the best. I've learned what his strengths are and what his weaknesses are.
So I ain't gonna lie, Ty, I know how to use certain things against you and ensure they're beneficial to myself. I get that you're a veteran, man, but I dunno of you'll be willing to learn too much about me. I'm kinda weird, kinda a dick and someone with a lotta problems so I get that some wouldn't want to get to know me all too much. But at the same, I'm a nice guy with a passion for what I do so ill ask this of you, Ty - just don't underestimate me. And I'm saying that not only for myself but also to protect you. I know you ain't gonna wanna lose to the likes of me now since there's so much pressure on you to go ahead and win the whole thing like you have in the past. But if you were to lose this week because you didn't take me seriously - that's definitely something your future opponents - or even just the one opponent depending on how far you get - can use against you. So don't underestimate me - know you're up against a threat.
Maxim rolled his eyes.
Maxim: I respect the hell out of you - I've seen what you've done in the past and I'm aware of what titles you've held. But I also have no doubt in my mind that I'll be one of the new greats. I am one of the brightest stars of this generation along with names.I'm not just saying that because we are friends but it's obvious - they are the future because they've proven it. We are the ones to take over but you're not ready to leave the spotlight yet, I get that entirely. But don't hate the younger generation - know that we're capable and more specifically, I am since I will do the near impossible this week and defeat the legend himself. It is clear, Ty, that you're obviously a much different challenge. You're a real fighter and not some aggravating asshole who just gets by with cheating in his way through matches. Last week, I knew I was going to head into the match already a winner. This week, there is slightly more of an unknown quality dwelling. I have watched many of your matches so you're not a mystery to me but the fact that you are a much greater challenge than anything I've been faced with in the past is unsettling. But, I accept the challenge. I say bring it on because why not? I know you will give me the fight I want because that is why I came here.
Maxim paused once more.
Maxim: But there's probably somethin' ya don't know about me, Ty. In fact, there's probably a lot you don't know about me but what is most relevant to this particular situation here is this - I don't quit. I never have - no matter how tough things get. I've not had an easy life - nowhere near. It's actually a surprise I'm even still alive on this earth. But I'm not going to go into detail with what I have been through - all you have to know is that because of it, I'm feeling better than ever before. And because of that, I push myself to the limit and beyond and to the point where I refuse to go down without a fight and heck, I refuse to go down at all. Quitting is something I've just never comprehended and I love taking risks - even ones that don't pay off. Maybe in our match this week, Ty, I will take some crazy risks that may either fuck up my career from this point forward and make people really pay attention. I don't care either way, I'm just happy to do something unexpected. Just be aware of what you're in for.
Maxim took a drink of water.
Not to say that is what is gonna happen. I'm smart enough to know when not to simply presume that something is going to happen. I can't say I will win - but I can't say I will lose. At this point, anything can happen and I'm excited to find out what that is. As I've said already, I hope that you are too because I don't want you to overlook me or think I'm just another newbie with unrealistic dreams - it seems we see way too many of those in this business. So I sincerely hope that you don't see me as one of those total noobs who think they deserve title shot after title shot after simply signing a contract with the company. No. I'm a humble guy and even being here is a dream come true. I was more than willing to work from the ground up but it seems I've been given a chance nice and early. Which I appreciate more than life itself but I am a real fighter - not one of these dreamers with no real skill to back their shit up. I'm not arrogant - not overly so, at least - so I know that the struggles will certainly be there. I will not succeed on a steady path but those who do generally have the world handed to them. Not me. If there's a man around here with a tragic back-story but the desire to keep on going for all the right reasons, then that's me. I'm here to stay on track - mentally - and not allow for anybody to take me down. This is all about strength - no matter how you look at it. This is what I grew up with and I'm a tough SOB, whether I look it or not. I know what I'm doing, I know how I'm living my life and Ty? I'm doing it by making motherfuckers who don't believe... believe. And I love the rush it brings. So I say, bring it on. I dunno how you feel about me and whether or not you see me as any sort of a threat... but I'm ready for the challenge. Always am. Ty, let's go out there and do what we do best. No way it's gonna be easy but I'm up for the challenge. Bring it on, Ty. Let's give the fans what they want.
He ended with a simple nod of the head, having said and done all he can on the matter for now. What else could he say? This match was going to be a good one no matter what the outcome.
